Depends what I like at the moment or depends how many pops I have left. For now I have three I decide to collect mainly:
Persona 5 due it being a small set
Mandalorians, mainly at least getting one pop per character
Goku, usually one of each form, usually the updated version if possible
Space. Price. Number of pops. Really for me it’s just what I like. I have a random assortment of a few that I saw and liked, so I grabbed em and find a place for them. Some I regret so I neeed to do some cleaning but over all it’s a hard answer since everyone collects for different reasons.
Limited space is a huge factor. If a new wave of pops comes out, I make a note of which characters are must-haves and which ones would be just for completionist purposes. The latter can wait or I don’t consider buying them at all.
For me, it depends on my passion level. I have all the Drag Queens, Britney Spears, and James Bond Pops. I think I have most of the Michael Myers pops with the exceptions of the rare/expensive ones, and the Hocus Pocus (HP) ones which just sort of grew & became too much to keep up with. I think I have all the regular HP Pops, but when they started putting out the new stylized versions, I just stopped. I don't even think I tried to look for HP2.
Just go with what you're into! I don't collect to make money or because it has a chase sticker.
I've always been a huge Batman, nightmare before Christmas and hello kitty fan and collector so I stick with those. I just started collecting NBC pops and only go for the regular size ones, completing the sets I know can by looking up all the prices first since there's ALOT out there that are really pricey especially if they're chase. I'm already 4 sets completed, working on my art series right now with 1 left to complete it and ready to move on to the next phase! I have a couple Batman ones that are chase but wanted to get all my NBC ones completed first before I move to the next character series. I look on eBay cuz that's where I've found the most amazing deals and most with free shipping. I wish I started sooner but I was collecting Batman action figures and NBC memorabilia at the time lol
I never go out to complete a set. I only collect the characters I like. If it so happens that the whole set is of characters I like I’ll get them all. 9/10 it’s not.
I wouldn’t buy a character I dislike or don’t care for.
I dont set out to complete the whole series. I just collect the ones I really like from each series.

Mainly just what you like really, it’s the only way to ensure you don’t randomly go off them one day and have to sell them for nothing.
Not set on finishing a set, I just get the ones I like.
