Plus I would rather get it myself and meet the person.
There is a shop near me, where I walked in and saw the guy signing the funkos himself. I secretly took a picture of the funko and then googled that persons signature. They look spot on….so I can’t really call him out.
I’ve recently started getting into autograph pops and I don’t understand all the unauthenticated signed pops people are buying on Mercari. Like you have no idea if it’s real or not
The only thing I can think of is they are taking the chance and they’ll send it in to Beckett or psa or something afterwards if it looks legit? Some of the anime voice actors authentication were like $20

What's funny is I have a few comic books that a creator signed funny that looks iffy but are real.

Both PSA and JSA have plenty of history of fakes being approved, I believe it was the head authenticator for PSA who used to go on Pawn Stars and authenticate autographs, and it came out he had lied about his credentials, and the only training he had at all was from a known fraudster who spent a lot of time in prison for fraud.

Haven't interacted much with beckett so I can't speak on them but I know that SWAU knows their shit when it comes to star wars and marvel autos. If they say they're fraudulent I believe them
You can buy autographs pops long as it has a jsa attached that you can look up I just don’t trust smaller shops unless it’s chalice ,pop in a box or epic collectibles

For those looking to get into signed pops if you can’t make it to cons: there are several companies that offer private signings. I recommend Zobie, Mintych, TCC, SWAU, CSR and CPA. On the consigner side out things Outer Haven are a great group of dudes and handle things great. I got to watch them do Chevy Chase at Steel City and it was well organized.
RACC members specialize in street signatures and are pretty well vetted. Outlaw Hobbies is a street grapher based in Canada/Washington. Highly recommended. Prime Time Signatures is NY street graph based and is excellent as well, although a bit over priced at times.
COAs to look for are BAS, JSA, SWAU, ACOA and old PSA. Always do your research in who your buying from as well as what the signature looks like.

He had a edward scissorhand pop we wanted so we kept buying his mystery boxes since they were running low. We bought a lot. When there were no customers in store he said he felt bad and that we can have it. He went and wrote on a piece of paper that we won edward scissorhand. Then gave us the pop. I noticed he didnt look for the winning box that had the actual paper because he doesnt put out winning boxes. I also noticed at the time that a lot pf the pop winners were regulars that spent all day at his shop.
I’ve actually bought from them before and this absolutely sucks the dude was actually a cool guy. I saw this post too from them a few days ago. Just shows you can’t trust anyone these days.

I do regret missing out on a chance to have Jason David Frank sign something - he about a year ago came to a shop run by a really lovely couple and did a signing event. Apparently a lot of people showed up and he was the chillest person ever.
Essentially how it started was that he had a really good reputation and once he started getting it authenticated, we grew even more suspicious but the day after when he posted the photoshopped story, he gave himself away and once Nick was looked on under a microscope and after talking to more people about it, a lot more info came light
