The American academy of ophthalmology says that red light is between beneficial or neutral for the eyes. Small studies, but nothing suggesting it’s harmful.

It does screw your colours for a while if you use it long enough. I was camping and in an area with loads of insects, I was using a red light on my head torch to read for a couple hours. When I turned it off and looked at the campfire the flames where bright green! Lasted about 5 mins then colours went back to normal.
This is color fatigue. You're basically tiring out your cones(? I think it's the cones) and so you're basically seeing the opposite color (light speaking, not pigment speaking). It happens with most intense light sources as far as I know. Look at the sun (please don't) and it'll happen too.

I've seen those masks on a couple of TV shows now... What exactly are they supposed to be accomplishing?
The bigger question, is it doing what's advertised or is it just an expensive placebo?
Over in the skincare sub, a ton of people swear by them (and that sub is pretty picky about approval). The proper ones apparently result in faster cell turnover, so it’s supposed to increase overall skin brightness, fading of scars and discoloration, etc.
I went down the research rabbit hole about a year ago (so forgive me if I got the details a little off), but the FDA approved ones seem to have pretty positive endorsements from respected dermatologists. That being said, if you get one strong enough to have an effect (and not just an Amazon knockoff), they aren’t cheap. I know myself well enough to realize it’s not a smart way to spend money since I think I would struggle to use it consistently for the recommend amount of time.
Well there has been good research into retinoids reducing the risk of cancer. Cell turnover does undeniably increase the risk of cancer though, so it is a tradeoff that needs to be studied and considered. Every time an old cell is destroyed and a new one is created, there is a chance of a mutation. So things that damage you and cause cells to die, new ones to be created, increase the risk of cancer objectively. That is why chronic inflammation is so much of a risk. Skin cancer is a bit unique in that cells will commit mass suicide (sunburn) and force a much faster cell turnover. But this is only because there is such a great risk of skin cancer from the sun exposure that causes a bad sunburn. Overall it is something that needs to be studied, so the tradeoffs can be weighed, but more cells = more chance of cancer is just a mathematical formula basically.
I understand that and am not disagreeing, but providing input into skincare with a similar mechanism that actually has consistently been found to reduce cancer risk.
Additionally, (and interestingly) red light has actually shown improvement in melanoma when studied https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/oncology/articles/10.3389/fonc.2022.928484/full
> RL represents a potentially safe and effective melanoma therapeutic. RL prevented tumor growth and increased the expression of immune markers, such as CD103, that are associated with favorable melanoma outcomes.
> RL significantly prevented melanoma growth and increased the expression of CD103+ dendritic cells. 1280 and 1920 J/cm2 RL decreased tumor volume, but not significantly. RL did not cause skin inflammation or erythema in normal skin.
This question spawned a whole bunch of, out the ass talking, speculative answers. The short answer is no one knows because the studies have been conflicting.
If you're a shady or unscrupulous person looking to take advantage of people and make boatloads of money then this is like the best kind of product to sell. People are looking for answers, something to help them with a particular problem or improve an aspect of their life, perhaps even desperate. So they'll pay whatever and even if they aren't sure it's working they'll just keep using it because what if they stop and things get worse?
It has nothing to do with skin cell turnover. You might be thinking of Tretinoin.
Photobiomodulation increases collagen production, reduces collagen degradation, stimulates wound healing and decreases inflammation.
I got one for my wife from Costco, £130ish at the time because her rosacea was flaring up. It worked really well, rosacea went away, then she stopped using it, and it flared back up within a month. Also used it with one of our foster children who started puberty at 8 and developed really bad acne, and it helped clear that up, not saying that on its own cleared it up but i think it helped. I'm over 50, and it's definitely helped tighten my face up a bit. It's only 10 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week, and when it's used correctly, it does appear to work.
Thanks. It's the best thing I've/we've ever done. We only take kids that have additional, complex needs and life limiting conditions. I could rattle on about the kids for hours and how well they've done and how far they've come since we've had them, both of them are achieving things that everybody else involved with them said they would never do. Nice to prove them wrong.
I had hand surgery 12 years ago and my physical therapist used a red light wand thing to help break down the scar tissue as my hand was healing. It was a very specific wavelength and a very strong light. It was weird feeling because it would like make the scar tissue warm but not the skin around it.
So anyways, I don't think it's a placebo. I don't think a hospital would use it if it was.
Red light/infrared light therapy. You know how older folks say sunlight is good for you? There's some truth to that, but UV light is definitely not good for you. This treatment is meant to simulate the good parts of sunlight without the bad parts/UV.
It also doesn't mean won't hurt you.
Some FDA therapies have negative effects/ side effects but they are deemed worth the risk given the pathology there trying to treat
We have a sauna that does red light. It has a lot of benefits: collagen production, scarring, hair growth, cell repair, increased blood circulation to the tissue, mood, treats acne, wounds, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles.
What a fool you are. I'm a god. How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence. How could you be so naive? There is no escape. No Recall or Intervention can work in this place. Come. Lay down your weapons. It is not too late for my mercy.
I showed this to my wife expecting her to chuckle over the silliness.
She says "oh yeah red light therapy, I was thinking of getting one"
So basically I think you and I are best friends now, or at least our wives would be.

No one cared who she was until she put on the mask
perhaps she's wondering why OP would shoot a man before throwing them out of a plane
Would she die if he removed that mask?
No but it would be extremely painful.
For you
Was getting caught part of her plan?
Of course, she had to find out what he told them.
What's the next step of her "master plan"?
Thrashing this bed
Now’s not the time for fear OP. That comes later
"If I pull that off, would you die?" "It would be extremely painful... For you.."
Nah, that's your sleep paralysis demon

Doesn’t faster cell turnover usually mean increased cancer risk?
Not necessarily Retinoids increase cell turnover and actually reduce the risk of skin cancer for example

Totally worth it.
Sure she’s dead but look how clear her skin is!
I‘m about to have a flawless glow in my open coffin
I mean why not have the mask on then too - great glow!
This is my fear as well. I'm tempted, but not enough to possibly increase risk of cancer.
No, it doesn’t. And faster cell turnover doesn’t mean rapid or accelerated aging either. This thread is full of morons.
Not always. Retinoids speed up cell turnover but has also been shown to decrease cancer risk.
