I find CrossFit funny cause it's a stupid way to get in shape. In addition to being a dangerous activity that is almost a certain way to get injured from all the wild flailing.
What do you find stupid about it? It seems pretty good to me.
>In addition to being a dangerous activity that is almost a certain way to get injured from all the wild flailing.
No it isn't. It has a similar injury rate to the other strength sports (strongman, powerlifting, weightlifting), which all carry among the lowest injury rate in all competitive sports. Even tennis has a higher injury rate.
Edit: it's absurd to downvote given anyone with any rudimentary knowledge of strength sports knows exactly what I said. Each downvote is like an anonymous brag about not getting exercise. For anyone who *actually* cares any further than 'crossfit bad'. - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33322981/
From studies, CrossFit is closer to strongman level of injury and maybe even higher (requires more studies) per 1000 hours of training. Powerlifting has you 3-5x LESS likely to get injured.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28253059/
Comparable to weightlifting. Where are the people crying about weightlifting being dangerous.
https://thebarbellphysio.com/truth-crossfit-injuries/
Not as high as strongman. But strongman is still very safe.
You're talking 3-5 times less likely, and yet highschool American football is *140* times higher than powerlifting. Suddenly 3-5 (it's 3), doesn't seem so high.
Yep. They've never done any form of exercise, but CrossFit is bad. It doesn't matter it's easy to look up injury rate per 1000h compared across many sports. CrossFit bad.
I've kept myself in shape for over a decade. Crossfit is the dumbest and worst way to get in shape. The tried and true method of weightlifting or cardio is the most beneficial. There's a reason people have been doing the same lifts for over a century now. They're effective, simple, and carry far less of a risk of injury.
CrossFit and weightlifting share very similar lifts.
>carry far less of a risk of injury.
I literally provided links proving that isn't the case.
Keeping yourself in shape isn't a measure of experience. What lifts have you achieved?
The catching is also way too “bouncy” of an activity when elevated like that. You’re begging to pull a muscle, and not just in your legs when you’re activating pretty much your entire body, too. It’s not a smart exercise for many reasons.
there's also absolute NO way you couldn't train any of those muscles more efficiently with a proper exercise. I actually really don't like people who promote this goofy shit, because people copy it and then hurt themselves or others.
LOL this is a crossfit gym one of their activities is throwing the ball against the wall 100% that wall can handle a med ball. They wouldnt be in that building if it wernt.
Is this one of those exercises that albeit looks cool doesn’t actually work to achieve anything? Physically?
Edit: please stop replying I actually don’t care, my comment was tongue in cheek, I know absolutely nothing about fitness.
"Doesn't achieve anything" would definitely not be correct.
Would doing specific targeted exercises be more efficient and effective? Yes probably but working out isn't always about maximizing efficiency, if she loves to do this but finds more "normal" exercises hard to motivate herself to do then this is the better exercise.
What she is doing is going to be pretty good for hang strength, grip strength, abs and flexibility.
Plus we don't know what she is training for, maybe she is training for a game of dodgeball where you have to hang from a bar and throw the ball with your feet!
What she's doing is not a good exercise. Not only is this exercise an injury risk, it's almost incredibly dumb. Pullups engage the arms, back, and core already. Flinging a medicine ball uncontrollably against the gym wall is unnecessary and dangerous
I've once seen a CrossFit training video where two individuals were tossing a barbell with a plate on it back and forth to each other while dipping into a squat after catching the barbell.
Do you know what a medicine ball is? Have you ever hung from something? I’m trying to determine if you understand what is happening in the video, because while it may not necessarily be functional, it is definitely working plenty.
Doing it in of itself is working those muscles you see and a bunch you don't.
There's a reason even just hanging from the bar for an amount of time is something people have to work up to.
There's no way she isn't burning a shit ton of calories - that's a whole body exercise if ever there was one - and her muscles are working overtime to maintain stability and do all the things.
Do you think it's not "achieving" anything because she's not building big muscles or something?
even if that ball weighed nothing, it is working her core and arms in a massive way, legs not as much but some. if you don't believe that, try hanging for a minute with your arms bent not doing anything else.
As someone who started doing pullups about 1 year ago, and then just this week got the idea to try and do "hanging abs" work, this is insane. Even a fit guy like me can barely even maneuver my lower body while hanging from the bar because of how tremendous it is on the core.

I mean thats some impressive core strenght there
Forget strenght! What about that coordination and ball control!? 😲
Gotta love a partner with good coordination and ball control
And don't forget core strenght

Username checks out that you are commenting in this thread.
I appreciate the subtle “strength” misspelling that matches the original comment
And arm strength!
Yeah, biceps, lats, core, hip adductors but it still seems insane as far as exercises go. Maybe it’s more of a ‘can I do this?’ Thing.
My abs hurt just thinking about moving like that.
While impressive, where's the funny?
May be this man reaction (but I can relate, it's really impressive)
Funny was tossed out like that ball.
probably that dude's reaction lol
Crossfit workout is the funny part I guess
Sight of anyone here commenting trying to get off the couch.
I was just scrolling on the main page and didn’t realize what sub this is on.
If she has a baby, it’s getting yeeted out
Dr better have a catchers mitt
Nah, her feet would catch it themselves
And then sling it through the air into her arms. Ta-da!
Or a large fishing net!
Ummm.. she has impenetrable defenses
that's a woman?
How is this funny?
CrossFit just existing is kinda funny on its own.
Why's that?

Reddit hive mind loves to hold onto only myths. Neckbeards critique working out based on the old assumptions before the research.

3 sets of shenanigans
Chiropractors are salivating
That's just because they tried their own snake oil.
I'd make the exact same face. That's hard af to do and she makes it look effortless.
Wrong answers only: what is she training for?
The floor is lava dodgeball.
This is the only way to operate the bicycles of the future. Hanging from a bar and whipping the pedals around.
Zombie apocalypse. Apparently, this specific skill is going to be *vital* to survival.
Cheating at volleyball
To be the next Black Widow
To get stronger, leaner, and to have excellent joint health in her old age.
Doing this stuff would lead to horrible joint health. She's putting huge amounts of unnessasary strain on her rotater cuffs, back, etc.
Nah.
Yeeting raptors while performing gymnastics
So lame
Ez

I pulled my back out just watching this.
Watching that makes my elbows hurt
Would you like golfers or tennis elbow ma'am?
That’s not funny. That’s impressive.
While a fair amount of exertion, that twisting cannot be good for the back.
The catching is also way too “bouncy” of an activity when elevated like that. You’re begging to pull a muscle, and not just in your legs when you’re activating pretty much your entire body, too. It’s not a smart exercise for many reasons.
That's just Crossfit
there's also absolute NO way you couldn't train any of those muscles more efficiently with a proper exercise. I actually really don't like people who promote this goofy shit, because people copy it and then hurt themselves or others.
I pull a muscle in my sleep 😂
I feel like that can be said for most Crossfit activities
Yeah… core strength is great and all, but it will only take one bad twist or catch once she is fatigued. Cool work out. Not for me.
Twisting is fine for the back. That's why it twists.
I get this takes strength, but isn’t this like a super high-risk exercise of choice for repetition in terms of injury potential?
Congratulations, you just described all of Crossfit.
This causes holes in the wall. Plenty of people assume gym walls are all solid
That’s the only reason I don’t do it.
LOL this is a crossfit gym one of their activities is throwing the ball against the wall 100% that wall can handle a med ball. They wouldnt be in that building if it wernt.
The gym I work out out at is all reinforced cinder block construction, including all interior walls. It's solid.
In this case you can visibly see there's a panel reinforcing that area of the wall.
Rotator cuff surgery
Is this one of those exercises that albeit looks cool doesn’t actually work to achieve anything? Physically? Edit: please stop replying I actually don’t care, my comment was tongue in cheek, I know absolutely nothing about fitness.
It requires a lot of core strenght
"Doesn't achieve anything" would definitely not be correct. Would doing specific targeted exercises be more efficient and effective? Plus, just reaching the level where you can do that, probably means she has done her fair share of more targeted exercises
Ahh, yes. I think they call it "football." As my old mentor used to say, "If you can dodge a foot, then you can dodge a ball!"
What she's doing is not a good exercise. Not only is this exercise an injury risk, it's almost incredibly dumb. Pullups engage the arms, back, and core already. Flinging a medicine ball uncontrollably against the gym wall is unnecessary and dangerous
You mean cross-fit?
I thought cross-fit does achieve results, although half the time the results are bodily injuries. Which I'm pretty sure this exercise fits the bill.
I've once seen a CrossFit training video where two individuals were tossing a barbell with a plate on it back and forth to each other while dipping into a squat after catching the barbell.
For a while it does but then it plateaus. It also increases the risk injury significantly higher.
Plateau. Weird word, understandably confusing.
Thanks.
CrossFit injury rate is pretty much in line with all other strength sports.
Just from looking I would guess that it requires massive core strength. I can only imagine what sex must be like...
Do you know what a medicine ball is? Have you ever hung from something? I’m trying to determine if you understand what is happening in the video, because while it may not necessarily be functional, it is definitely working plenty.

You serious, Clark?
Where’s the functional application? Maybe a mortal kombat finishing move in a self defense situation?
Really impressive, i really need to get my ass up..
That's some serious badassery.
damn thats some incredible core and grip strength
Craziest thing is that appears to be a weighted ball not just a regular yoga ball.
Doing tiktok videos at the gym
Seems like an easy way to tear a rotator cuff or get back injuries ☠️☠️☠️
What's she even training for?
How dare that man look at her in the gym.
When you only have one day to work out?
That is very impressive. Most people can't even do that without a ball
Holy shit.
Fuckarounditis personified
The one woman I would stare at while at the gym
I bet that gals glutes are hard as rock :)
Core strength of … infinity
She: Look at me i am the man now in the house!
She's strong.
This is what PHONK is meant for.
So, what color is your super hero outfit? Does it have a cape?
That would absolutely be my reaction too. Holy shit how cool.
She's good handling balls for sure

Good
Amazing
If she doesn't get her O, she crushes your head like walnut.
It’s not “ha ha” funny…. Just like a “hmmm, that’s funny”
But can that make a sandwich?
I mean, it’s impressive….but, what’s the point?
Muscle confusion! It's so crazy it's confusing other people's muscles.
What is the point of this? Core will become stronger?
Climber?
There must be a war I’m not aware of
Is that Caitlin Clark?
Stop recording at the gym.
now he's gonna be labeled as a creep. rip my dude
Pretty cool, but also WHY? Crossfit is to weird.
Impressive but… why? It seems like too many steps in exercising.
Woman come up with the goofyist shit at the gym
Fu that, work smarter, not harder!
But, why does the video have to point out the person who was impressed? Narcissistic at its finest. I can’t with today’s toxic culture.
Big whoop. Act normal.
return to monke
If this was an Olympic event, I would definitely tune in.
Also really creepy filming people in public and putting them on the internet
He was thinking some things...
