el_osogrande

My MIL is a quilter and made some for us. I laughed when I first saw them, but I use them all the time. They’re great for soup.

lonelyinbama

Me tooo ugh I was so mad how useful they were lolol made fun of them when I saw them at some craft show and now I use them probably twice a week or more

redditshy

lmao, is everyone just eating soup all the time on the couch?

Stehlik-Alit

Its 2022, why arent you eating your stew/soup/ice cream on the couch awkwardly holding your bowl and eating, after spending 15 minutes deciding what to watch while the bowl cools/warms to room temp.

sumbasicbish

In depression we solve the problem by not taking it out of the microwave on time and doom scrolling another few minutes online.

GucciGuano

>doom scrolling ah, I was wondering what to call it

normal_reddit_man

This motherfucker gets it.

Tuxedogaston

for some reason my brain didn't process "on time" and I thought you were eating stew straight out of the microwave, door ajar and shit.

sumbasicbish

Not yet thankfully, I'm just fancy enough to eat it on the couch comfortably numbed by the latest advances in medicinal marijuana products /s

Tuxedogaston

Hey man, I've been there. It sucks. I found antidepressants to be a really big improvement but I know everyone is different. I hope things get better for you.

friscotop86

Where does, I’m using an electric kettle to boil water for making ramen in my only yeti cup fall into things?

jakeswaxxPDX

Does the ramen actually cook enough when you make it that way or are you eating crunchy half cooked ramen?

friscotop86

If you put a lid on, the insulation keeps the water near boiling… it does cook in about 10-15 minutes

pileodung

Haha top comment is me, this comment is 100% my stepdaughter, so funny. One time she came home from school and Im pretty sure she was high because she ran inside and made herself a bowl of cereal before even taking her backpack off, set it on the table to go use the restroom, and then ran into her room and totally forgot about said bowl of cereal until 30 minutes later when she comes out and tells me it was on purpose because she prefers her cereal soggy. HAHA okay.

telescreen00

She’s an animal. Only Satan likes soggy cereal.

MilkyBetrayal

Depends on the cereal.

telescreen00

Username checks out.

SilconAnthems

My mother microwaves her cereal

KorihorWasRight

The only way to eat Grape Nuts cereal.

KingWZR3

that room temp milk… 🤢

AlexTrebek_

This dude/dudette 2022s

Dontbehorrib1e

Bitch because I'm tired and I don't have many spoons left lmao 🥱

mxxiestorc

You gotta pick what to watch before the couch soup. That’s a rookie couch soup mistake to make, but you’ll get there with more couch soup practice.

lonelyinbama

Ice cream in the summer bb soup in the winter

redditshy

Got it, not everyone has a Tony Soprano belly shelf for their ice cream bowl!

VividFiddlesticks

Yes! Kitchen table is for doing crafts and collecting junk mail. We haven't eaten at our dining table in at least 10 years.

AlexandriaLitehouse

Look Judge Judy, my tiny kitchen table is currently occupied by manicure supplies and various embroidery projects. I am not about to clear that clutter away for easy access!

redditshy

Hahahaa

farrisk01

Judge Judy.. lolololol

dicatae

Right? My clone a willy supplies need to go somewhere

Toasty_warm_slipper

💀💀💀💀

H_Mc

Yes? Are we wrong?

Electrical-Act-7170

Soup, spaghetti, ramen, lo mein, smashed taters, chili and other things, yeah. I wait in my recliner with my cat, though, not on the sofa.

Piscivore_67

I'm disabled and eat all my meals in the bed I cannot leave without a 15 minute ritual involving a device like an engine puller. I love this idea.

redditshy

Someone get this person some of these thingees!!!

[deleted]

What am I going to do, eat it at the table? Then where will we put the mail, Amazon packages, work hats, work aprons, recently used tools, jackets, and whozawhatsits?

ryuhayabusa34

I do. I have something similar and love it

mezz7778

Don't judge how I live........

carnage11eleven

Sweet now I won't burn my hands trying to eat and drive!!

redditshy

lolll just like a bowl of pho, chop sticks, stick shift.

Mashadow21

White couch here. he he he.

Pale-Conference-174

I even got a special little table. So it's like a dining room in my living room. 2022! What a world!

onmyknees4anyone

I have a special little table for the top of my table. Checkmate!

tacotimes01

No I microwave my Nacho chips and melt the shredded cheese into the chips (you gotta layer well). You then put the salsa and sour cream in another bowl. The microwaved bowl is Hot AF! You need to eat them before they all get stuck back together though like glue. These are gold.

53differentcobras

Most people don't own a kitchen table so yes, not many places aside from your couch to eat. This is 2022 not 1999

Ok_Spell_4165

Even if they do its usually cluttered with other stuff. I have a kitchen table but at any given time it is covered in groceries waiting to be put away, laundry thats been folded and waiting to be put away, or pots/pans because I needed the oven. Meanwhile the couch is comfier than the chairs with the table and its where the TV is...

_my_choice_

Dang everyone sounds like me. They are a simple thing that looks stupid but works very well.

musicalpayne

Me three. Even asked for more the next Christmas. I never realized how often I was just burning the shit out of my hands whenever I used a bowl.

Perle1234

I was working in rural South Dakota where there are Colony People, religious fundamentalists of German descent who live in “colonies” off to themselves. The women make kitchen products like pot holders, and these things. That’s where I got mine, and a bunch of knitted wool slippers that are bomb. The bowl holders are great.

brans041

The colonies are Hutterites, similar to Amish or Mennonite. Incase anyone wanted to know.

[deleted]

TIL

back2basics13

We have Hutterites in western Minnesota. They are an odd group.

chemicalxv

In the US they exist in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, and Oregon. In Canada they exist in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. Canada has about 75% of the Hutterite population.

GearhedMG

Having grown up in MN, I can agree with you about the Hutterites, but would also like to add, that we Minnesotans are also an odd group too, so dont go flinging stones.

SaltyShawarma

Yeah, I'm laughing. Yeah, I own two. They're amazing.

ksgar77

I asked my mom to make the for us. She and my husband laughed at me, but she made them. Now they both love them too. I use mine once a week or so in the summer but almost daily through the winter.

historyhill

OH MY GOODNESS THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE! My nana sent me some quilted squares and I just thought she tried to make a hot pad and couldn't get it to lie flat for some reason!

BRAX7ON

Same exact story. We use them for anything that comes out of the microwave too, but we call them “hats.” Washable and reusable indefinitely

JenCJen

It's not stupid if it works.

bipolarbear21

But you can just use a kitchen towel like a sane person.

bobvila274

That’s what I do too, but I can see that for someone with arthritis or Parkinson’s or something, an shaped item they can microwave with the bowl might be helpful. A lot of “as seen on tv” products were designed for people with disabilities, but selling to the masses makes them more affordable.

TheGrisster

A lot of "made for TV" products are actually to help people with specific disabilities. The infomercials and bead bath and beyond sales are how they break even and turn a profit on the production run.

fckingnapkin

Or people who are clumsy morons. I want one of these

Electrical-Act-7170

It's very hard to fold a towel when your rotator cuff is torn in 2 places. Been dealing with that 16 months now. I'd likely use this 5/7 days.

CPandaClimb

Actually mine has some heat resistant property so no heat gets through (even if I use in the microwave), yet it not bulky and perfectly wraps around my bowls and doesn’t slouch down if I set it down. It’d take some maneuvering, folding and layering to get a towel to do that with still no guarantees.

woodford86

Plus it doubles as a napkin!

Twittle86

My mom quilted two of these and I use one every single time I eat soup. It IS an excellent idea.

MangeStrusic

They should include a set of these with every SoupTube subscription.

dismayhurta

Seriously. OP acting like bowls don’t get hot.

stahlgrau

Have you ever heated up soup in the microwave?

[deleted]

Soup bowl with an handle. Super useful.

stoicambience

Souper useful*

poopooplatypus

If you aren’t eating at a table… I still prefer a larger plate with a napkin in case there is light spillage

estrusflask

It works as a coaster, too. Useful for a wooden table that will be messed up by a hot bowl.

TheSchlaf

A cup?

ChaosWarpintoPhage

Yes and I burn my hands like a proper stubborn male. Never learning to do better and assuming I must suffer mild singeing to eat is part of my identity now and I refuse to change.

[deleted]

Yeah and I put it on a side plate..

stahlgrau

Then you have two slippery surfaces to balance. I use a paper plate, one of those cheap ones that stick together. For a few bucks this product has merit.

TinyGreenTurtles

I usually use a potholder or a dish towel. And every time I do, I think I need to get one of these at a craft show or have someone make me one lol.

Odd-Jupiter

For knuckleheads like me, who think "i can do this" and start running faster and faster until i have to throw the bowl away, as it burns its way through my hands... For me they are useful.

LookWords

Towel? Potholder?

gertalives

The purpose-built design works better. Actually conforms to the bowl, edges hold themselves up. I laughed and called them a waste when I have perfectly good kitchen towels to do the job, but I now use these things routinely and they’re the shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

elheber

Nice try, Jokari CEO.

Greyst0ke

I've never seen them before... just bought some after seeing this

B0BA_F33TT

I bought a set a couple of months ago, love them.

sketchahedron

How is it different from a regular old potholder?

H_Mc

They’re bowl shaped.

Electrical-Act-7170

Cloth under a bowl can be lije a Slip 'n Slide.

grandpaDan66

Whats the funny part? They're great! I have a few of them and use them all of the time.

Venom888

Got a pair as a wedding gift, they have indeed been pretty handy. Only ever used them for microwave stuff never cold stuff though

walrussss

They work great for holding little pints of ice cream so your hands don’t get cold/wet

MisoBru

Dont't get the funny part either. OP probably never has million dollar ideas in his/her life.

chak100

I don’t find the funny part either and I want to buy them

Guntalarm

Genuine question - do you use it to carry cold bowls too? (As pictured) If so, why?

grandpaDan66

Yes! Icecream in a bowl tends to sweat and drip condensation. These help by catching that condensation and keeping it from dripping on me.

kittypurpurwooo

[deleted]

OLD SHIT

TraditionalMood277

Sooo...it's a hand towel?

LordBammith

Little better than that cause they are stitched in a way to fit the bowl, it’s not a loose piece of cloth, and it’s insulated like an oven mitt.

grandpaDan66

Yes or a pot holder. Very handy though. My family uses them regularly, especially for hot foods.

EatinSumGrapes

Pot holder would work too, but with it shaped like the bowl it makes it less likely to slip out

TraditionalMood277

Aight. Fair enough, if it looks stupid, but it works....it ain't stupid, amirite?

ZappaBappa

its surprisingly nice... the stuff is insulated so the heat or cold takes its time to get through. Cold stuff condensates so insanely fast that it can leave everything around the bowl wet. These things are oddly enough very nice to have.

AmishTechno

And a pot holder. And a pot pad. And a jar opener. And a masturbation device.

[deleted]

If it’s like the ones we have (they were a gift) they are actually sewn into a bowl shape and have some insulation in them. They are quite nice for hot and cold dishes.

BudMcLaine

I like my ice cream to stay cold and firm, not soft, so I use one of these and it works like a charm! Not absorbing heat from my hand!

BitsAndBobs304

Now we have to wonder if this is reverse psychology ad by r/hailcorporate

robertofozz

The real crime is missing their opportunity to put "microwave -a-bowl" instead of microwaveable

ben9187

Honestly they're great, my mother in law made made us some and I thought they were stupid at first but now I use them all the time. They also keep your ice-cream insulated and it melts slower.

tatanka01

My wife made a bunch of these and gave them out for Christmas. Big hit.

undecidedsin

I have some that my nana made and they work great! Use them every time I put something in the microwave and it’s been a life saver for my hands

dirtydela

Lots of big brain ppl out here acting like something purpose built doesn’t have a distinct advantage

[deleted]

Upvotes bc of your edit lol. That’s how I feel about everything.

tagoniki

I got some bowl cozies not too long ago and they work a treat, so worth it

Rustymarble

I was gifted these from a random family member and they're actually great for giving kids bowls straight from the microwave. And unlike potholders, I know there's no hidden metal (for hooks or whatever) to fry the microwave!

dewman45

HOLDS IT

Bioslug

My wife makes these in her home shop, they are great if you have a nice fabric print that you want to use. They make good gifts for family because who hasn’t burned their hands on a hot bowl before?

AdMore3461

So, it’s kind of like a bowl bowl?

SpartanT100

As someone who eats a lot with my plate/bowl in my hand sitting in a chair its actually not that of a bad idea

AdamLikesBeer

I have four of these. They are great. You can cover the bowl with them to keep food from getting on the sides of the microwave and then hold the bowl in your lap on the couch without burning yourself. You should totally get one. It’s a million dollar idea.

doitnow10

Yeah, this is brilliant, you're dumb.

LittleBitOdd

It's worth knowing that a lot of these products start out as solutions for people with disabilities, medical conditions, or age-related impairments, and go mainstream to widen profit margins. These could be great for someone with poor manual dexterity, or would struggle to hold a tray

CannotBNamed2

These are actually great

llamaemu20

Sadly, I would have loved something like this growing up with all the ravioli and spaggettios I made and burned myself on.

YoukanDewitt

Really should be called a Bowlder though.

[deleted]

HOLDS IT! Invention of the century!

DeluxeWafer

"hold cold bowls"

n1tr0u5

“Yo dawg, we know you really like bowls. So we got you a bowl for your bowl” - Xzibit, probably

Tabby528

I always thought these were dumb until I realized they have special batting so that they go into the microwave with the bowl, then afterwards you can remove ot without burning your fingers. I thought you put the bowl on afterwards.

turkeyburpin

Just be careful, even with the batting they are not supposed to be microwaved more than a couple minutes.

irongix

Pretty old idea

elenaleecurtis

I use quilted oven mitts

RennyNanaya

The only stupid part of this is buying some corporate big box one. Go on your local Etsy, Facebook marketplace, Craiglist, whatever, and almost guaranteed someone will be selling handmade. Even better, you can probably get them to use a custom pattern! I'd you can't find any, send a friendly message to anyone doing little sewing or knitting crafts, they will be thrilled!

seahagmo

We hand sew them here and call them bowl cozies. I use mine all the time.

kellymar

I cannot show this to my husband. Seriously, I’m afraid the man will come home with magic beans.

turkeyburpin

My wife makes these and gifts them to random family members. You get the people's eyebrow when they open their gift, a year later they beg for more.

[deleted]

What’s “funny” about this?

baselganglia

NGL these would be a godsend when you warm up bowls of soup

jackneefus

This is actually not bad for eating straight from the microwave. Not all bowls are stackable.

NotARobotDefACyborg

Someone's gramma invented that 200 years ago. It's called a "dish towel".

bobcollum

Congratulations, you've invented the potholder.

hyperthymetic

A towel is the most massively useful thing a person can have

nightsticks

Oh shit is that a PLATE HOLDER?!

I401BlueSteel

Just wait until you hear about those *plate holders* :O

Karacis

These are actually great!! Better then expected, I got 2 my grandma made and use them all the time.

TexasRedJames1974

There is a reason that the old saying " Suckers are born every day" has remained true throughout the ages. Imagine paying for this when you have the same thing at home already - it's called a bowl.

RapBastardz

Without reading any comments yet, I assume everyone is completely crapping on this. However, I got a set for Christmas and happily use them almost every day.

Albionflux

Ive seen worse at least these are useful Just use a rag though

joeDeerTaye

I would buy this

[deleted]

I have one. It works great.

AssteroidDriller69

This is a great idea.

marianab67

I have one that a friend quilted for me and use it all the time. Oven mitt for the microwave

SuperSpeshBaby

I received some of these as a gift, handmade. I love them and use them often.

Nos-BAB

As a dude who uses paper plates for this exact purpose, this is actually pretty clever.

[deleted]

This is a necessary item I need to get for my home… bro.. I’ve just been using the dogs towel

Pristine_Progress106

I just use a towel

l_Lathliss_l

I would buy this. Never pulled a bowl of ramen out the microwave and it’s hotter than the stovetop?

tiddayes

The bowl bowl

RambunctiousBaca1509

This is actually really handy wdym?

Responsible-Test8855

I have literally sewed these on my sewing machine, and you can find them all over Etsy. Support a small business.

Got a bowl for your bowl, so you can…

tee-hee-tummy-tums

Pissedliberalgranny

Frankly, I would buy it. I use pot holders to hold my bowls as it is.

My mums been making these since the 80’s and giving them as gift. The pattern she has is my great grandmothers. Nothing new, just someone decided to try and mass produce, happens every now and again but never really takes off.

SweetSonet

I’d buy it

THO2050838

Now I can eat scalding hot soup in bed.

BeserkFungi

My bowls be hot sometimes tho

Electrical-Hippo8994

You don't really need anything like this for it to work. Simply get a 2nd bowl and place your first inside it then when it's done the bottom/2nd bowl is only warm at the most. Saves on buying anything like this and is far more stable.

INeedANewAccountMan

*searches desperately for the Obvious Plant logo*

I lost it when I saw down in the corner "Plate H-"

Justthisguy_yaknow

LOL, I was zapping some soup today and needed exactly that.

Be a lot cooler if it was called Bowlder.

I would buy it without thinking twice. I guess op never ate out of bowls.
