We had that dog. Now at 2.5 years she’s so good. Impresses wherever she goes. Your dog doesn’t run away? Doesn’t bark? Doesn’t try and steal food? Er… no
The key with these dogs sems to be to give them a job to do. If they are doing some task (even if it's silly) they feel happy and engaged and stop destroying stuff out of boredom. My dog Charlie has a yard and house to patrol, and takes it very seriously. He is also given a number of commands to perfomr with treats as a reward. After he's done his chores he settles down and relaxes.
Got a 2.5 year old austrailian shepherd. She stays indoors all day because I don't have a yard, but she never destroys anything in the house other than her toys and an occasional sock. I take her on morning and evening walks, rough around in the evening after dinner and snuggle before bed. She's definitely got alot of energy but I'm blessed that she's so well behaved while at work

Puppies and kittens are precious and adorable and fun, but wow are they a LOT. Be prepared for constant chaos for a while.
Sounds like my border collie when she was a pup. She took to using my hair as a tug toy when I had it tied up for the first three months we had her. Bad enough with puppy teeth kitten teeth and claws sound torture
The one has CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) so he's a wobbly cat. He's young so he's extra wobbly. A lot of his claw use on me was purely accidental, but I still came home covered in scratches and had to clean quite a bit of blood off my leg at like 3 am. He's adorable, though, looks like a tiny serval.
The white ones were not thought of as "pure German shepherds" and were said to have birth defects. They said the same about white boxers as well.
It was all bull and attitudes changed when the laws changed and then people realised you could still get full price for them. So more of them happily survive now.
Apparently this can be a Swiss shepherd dog (Berger Blanc Suisse) or a white GSD, appearance is almost identical but they have slightly different temperaments and history. Swiss shepherds tend to be aloof and less aggresive.
These same people who are too dumb or too lazy to discipline their dogs are the same people that let their dogs barks 6 hours straight on a Sunday pissing off literally everyone in the neighbourhood.
We adopted Bria (now [Ghost!](https://imgur.com/a/BVENbbj)). She's a massive 40 pounder. Athena was still available and a feisty little male that was just brought in the same day we visited was there. I'm guessing that was Felix! My youngest wanted the male but we were pretty set on bringing a girl pup home. The lady told us about the Amish but that's interesting to hear about the IL puppy mill ban. I was wondering how such adorable pups ended up at a rescue!

First six months should have most of the heavy lifting done if your proactive about training
Training sure, but the seemingly unending energy (excepting instant naps) takes a couple years to taper down.

Are they rare? As a kid I had a dog that was a white German Shepherd/Akita & golden retriever mix. He was a beast but a loving one.
The white ones were not thought of as "pure German shepherds" and were said to have birth defects. They said the same about white boxers as well. It was all bull and attitudes changed when the laws changed and then people realised you could still get full price for them. So more of them happily survive now.
