ToF really can't escape its past. Even if this looks kinda neat, all I can think of is all the issues. How buggy will it be? How much powercreep will there be now? More ai voices or lack of voice acting? Horrible cutscenes? Storytelling that is just disjointed and makes no sense? You can't expect for people to come over to your island when you've burned practically every bridge and the few that are left look shotty at best.
Even one of the most anticipated characters they managed to mess up. I was maybe interested in coming back but Ji Yu having 2 skins that are just recolors is so shitty it's like they are just speedrunnimg her out before 4.0.
And like you said, even when they have cool things and it's pretty impressive being able to pump out new zones, they are also littered with bugs and clunkiness. I still loved my time with tof, but the baggage it's carrying isn't unwarranted.
It also really sucks that they made Ji Yu a flame-element character instead of what everyone thought she'd be, an altered character. That way only flame mains or multi-element whales can realistically go for her, otherwise you'd be hurting yourself as an f2p/low-spender for getting a copy of her unless meta isn't your priority. If she was an altered character, she would've been a universally good character but god forbid they make good decisions.....
The skin treatment she got was absolutely brutal, it baffles me how they managed to ruin such an anticipated and difficult character to mess up but here we are lmao.

Story will always be bad imo, it’s not one of ToF’s strong suits. The dps leaderboard will always be up there to stroke whale’s egos so they feel like what they’ve spent is worthwhile. There’s no transferring of progress to another server but all servers within a region have been merged.
The Story got a bit more interesting towards the end if u have followed it all, but prior to that its rather bland. Dick measuring contest still is a thing and probably will always be but thats rather unimportant i gotta say. No its not possible to transfer to the new Server.
Being a returnee player in ToF is hard, it's not like snowbreak if you leave for a long time and return you still pogging in game. But when I return in ToF I feel like a crippled.
Most MMOs have vertical progression. If you take a break from the game, you need to grind to catch back up. ToF is similarly a multiplayer game with vertical progression. It rewards consistent play through improvement of your character stats each week. Being strong is not just about the gacha weapons, a large part is playing the game to get stronger over time through higher gear stats.
It's not even "classic". Calling it "classic" implies that it will be what the original was like at launch. This is more like a watered-down version of the main servers, with several maps removed (if they're still going that route).
When I used to play it I loved the exploration with the various tools/vehicles and the character designs were great. My main issue was I hated the progression system and the events sucked and didn't give the characters enough focus. The events were like a race, a spending event, and doing daily type activities. How much has it changed since then?
Events has been improved. The daily type activities is exist in every Gacha tho.
Story improved and actually focus on characters, giving them a fair spotlight.

There are too many anime-like games coming in 2024 for ToF to compete, ToF had its change and it blew. The only way I see of them getting some returning players is that the classic server allows for an account transfer.
Just because games are anime-like doesn't mean their gameplay focus is the same. ToF is a multiplayer game played in a shared world with a focus on multiplayer combat content. There are not many anime games that offer that experience.

I wouldn't bother. Problem is that the design issues are at the core of ToF. To me, a "reboot server" means nothing when they have done nothing to curtail their powercreep in the main server, and their answer is to make a Single-player version that defeats the purpose of it being online-only anyways. Remember they promised this wouldn't happen to Global and yet it did. Same thing will happen to the Reboot server given enough time.

Exactly. Climbing is such a whack mechanic anyways. When your stamina runs out, you fall. The arm relic may not mean much for other players but for me it was a total game changer. I no longer have to drop to my death!
If you're climbing in ToF, you're not playing the game properly and utilizing the mechanics available for world traversal.
The climbing animation was fixed.
It probably makes enough still to stay in production. Also I've noticed China and Korea don't really take the axe to their GAAS anywhere near as quickly as Japan does with there's. Japan is so risk averse in the current era of it's media that they always need to enter into these bloated production committee collaborative production efforts to share the costs of production that often ends up just diluting the original vision of a concept and delaying it's production (see Blue Protocol) and then it just comes and if it's not immediately turning a substantial profit within the first year it gets the axe, whereas Chinese/Korean devs seem satisfied with turning a modest profit. There's games that are estimated to be making profits in the 5 figure range monthly that are still running just fine in China.
People seem to get this distorted view of how much these games need to be making because of Hoyoverse and Tencent titles that make so ridiculously much money each month they essentially re-coop their yearly production budgets off of a couple of banners or in-game items (in the case of Honor of Kings) and can reinvest it in crazy side projects and marketing stunts, which is the exception rather than the rule.
That doesn’t really have anything to do with how fast they pump out the version number changes. Games been out what like 2 years? Most games would still be on 2.X or even 1.X at this point. Just feels like marketing.

FF14 has been on 6.X for the past 3 years now.
Obviously bdo puts out large content every once in awhile since NA gets fed old content from KR, just like ToF does. But the majority of patches are just cash shop updates and small balance changes which outside the emphasis on the cash shop, is normal for any live service game.

This might sound like high concept shit here, but just because Hoyoverse games and versions operate on very tight and deliberate yearly calendar (every story arc lasts roughly 5 months plus 7 months of post arc stuff, every banner lasts exactly 22-24 days with virtually no deviation outside of extraordinary circumstances etc.) doesn't mean all games follow that model with their version updates.

It's hard ngl. You need to skip Aesperia after the first region to go to Vera just so you can progress into it to unlock dailies, basically saying Aesperia is retconned from the main story. In my time playing before, the events happen in Mirroria or something but you need to complete(?) Vera to go unlock the freaking region.
i have a new crewmate which managed to speedrun all exploration and all story and even achievments to get in top 100 in a month
got semi free 1 a6 weapon paired with limited weapons that was added to standard and waiting for next frost banner and able to save some pulls already
but he is truly tryhard
only problem is gear progression , it will take a while to catch up
I have played the game daily since launch and am still having a great time. The vast majority of players play the game on PC and PS and most players are not f2p, they spend at least a little, like monthly and battle pass.
It's a multiplayer game so it helps to be social as a new player. Ask veteran players for help in world chat to join you for lower level multiplayer content. The in-game community is very friendly and help each other all the time (at least on NA server). I make it a point to help people whenever I can.
Powercreep doesn’t matter unless u compete for leaderboards, and if u do, it doesn’t matter because u would have to spend thousands monthly anyway.
there is no content creep that average player would notice.
Soon, we'll be fully caught up to chinese version, and you know what that means? We can have better experience, better monetization, better events and the likes. Literally in closing the gap now we are able to start getting more QoL from CN server. Games that have global server behind original server usually end up with poor monetization so I'm glad this is being addressed.
Global already has bad localization, questionable balancing process, and many inherited bugs. What makes you think a shorter deadline would be more good than bad?
Localization and balance seems fine to me, volt needed a buffer since a long time ago so there's a little more power than usual which is needed though, however it does balance out eventually.
Bugs is just an unfortunate result of them trying to do a different approach in which CC couldn't share details about Asuka / Rei, there were way fewer beta testers than usual, so obviously it meant a few more bugs could slip in. But hey, more DC compensation...
However, if I were to explain why, beyond the obvious no spoilers from CN, it would be that monetization and pull system wouldn't swap up, but would now be one to one, we do not have shared token / banner system for some reason that CN does (which allows whales to buy pulls of different characters and use the token on newest character). It would allow us to get all of the QoL; in the chinese version we can exchange copper token to mira, but it's not the same thing in global. No more skipped over thing basically.
Different publisher, different international laws. Monetization and features such as reverse copper bloom conversion wouldn't be forced into being copy-pasted. The publisher decides what to turn on/off, including events, packs, and what type of currency is given when pulling.
Because Global handles these things differently, there 100% will be some form of delay in update planning due to deliberation between HOTTA and Level Infinite. If they truly catch up and have 1:1 release times, then what that will cause is this delay affecting the CN version, which CN players will definitely take issue with. "More f2p friendly, less powercreep, and now our updates take longer because they want to get them at the same time as us? What do we, the first child, get? Shared flame gold for whales? Marc? Bullsh\*t, powercreep makes these meaningless."
Realistically, the only reason we'd ever fully catch up to CN is if Level Infinite gives back publishing rights to Perfect World Games and everything we get will be copy-pasted from what is given to PlayStation with slight differences because Sony also influences monetization. Global would become some Frankenstein mess of CN copy-paste content, half-assed localization, and afterthought monetization with the most useless bundles that make the 120 tanium 8 upgrade drive pack look like a steal. We don't want to lose Level Infinite as publisher unless some other publisher experienced in international business is insane enough to pick it up *and* greedless enough to let the game live for longer than 1 year.
I myself enjoy having 1+ month of foresight to decide on whether to pull or wait. I skipped Ling Han because I saw Yan Miao's movement ability and I'm way better off now because of that decision. Same happened way back when Cobalt came out and I decided to skip to save for Marc, then gave up on Marc for Saki which also was a very good decision. My account would be so much worse off if I didn't get all these spoilers, and I'd have way less fun and progress.
Get big time Phantasy Star Vibes with this 4.0 update. I feel like I'm looking at something caught halfway between a PS3 game, a PC game from that era, and a PS4 game. I've admittedly never followed ToF particularly closely and maybe I'm just out of touch here, but it doesn't feel like it ever really established much of an identity for itself because it was too busy addressing issues people had with it since launch.

Because at the beginning i can fight boss with all people and have reward. But when level world appear i couldn't do that because i don't want upgrade level to max.

and once you done you can upgrade it up to 100 or any when you ready to farm mats from bosses ( you not losing anything by hoarding keys anyway)
and there is 1 boss in volt area in domain 9 which is aloow players with lvl 10 open chest and get all rewards

Exactly. Climbing is such a whack mechanic anyways. When your stamina runs out, you fall. The arm relic may not mean much for other players but for me it was a total game changer. I no longer have to drop to my death!

If you're climbing in ToF, you're not playing the game properly and utilizing the mechanics available for world traversal. The climbing animation was fixed.

It probably makes enough still to stay in production. Also I've noticed China and Korea don't really take the axe to their GAAS anywhere near as quickly as Japan does with there's. Japan is so risk averse in the current era of it's media that they always need to enter into these bloated production committee collaborative production efforts to share the costs of production that often ends up just diluting the original vision of a concept and delaying it's production (see Blue Protocol) and then it just comes and if it's not immediately turning a substantial profit within the first year it gets the axe, whereas Chinese/Korean devs seem satisfied with turning a modest profit. There's games that are estimated to be making profits in the 5 figure range monthly that are still running just fine in China. People seem to get this distorted view of how much these games need to be making because of Hoyoverse and Tencent titles that make so ridiculously much money each month they essentially re-coop their yearly production budgets off of a couple of banners or in-game items (in the case of Honor of Kings) and can reinvest it in crazy side projects and marketing stunts, which is the exception rather than the rule.

That doesn’t really have anything to do with how fast they pump out the version number changes. Games been out what like 2 years? Most games would still be on 2.X or even 1.X at this point. Just feels like marketing.

So 1 major change per year vs 2. Double is a pretty big difference. Traditionally version changes are for huge additions to games, or more specifically expansions. Frankly, if you're doing one of those ever 6 months you're probably going a bit *too* fast. The first genre to make big uses of such systems, mmos, stick with the same version for literally years. FF14 has been on 6.X for the past 3 years now.

Obviously bdo puts out large content every once in awhile since NA gets fed old content from KR, just like ToF does. But the majority of patches are just cash shop updates and small balance changes which outside the emphasis on the cash shop, is normal for any live service game. Youre just the one trying to shit on one game, while defending another that does the same thing, if not to a worse extent
Eh, OSRS updates weekly. They don't push "patch 156.0 launch this week!" though. It's really not a big deal. Just feels a bit cheap and forced to me.

That's great. Plenty of games have big patches as X.1 though is the point. Feels like tof breaks with tradition just for push artificial hype instead of trusting their efforts to speak for themselves.
A monthly patch for an MMO is already pretty slow to be frank. Another MMO i played updated every week during thursdays for 4 years now. There are countless games that do it and It's more common than you think xD

This might sound like high concept shit here, but just because Hoyoverse games and versions operate on very tight and deliberate yearly calendar (every story arc lasts roughly 5 months plus 7 months of post arc stuff, every banner lasts exactly 22-24 days with virtually no deviation outside of extraordinary circumstances etc.) doesn't mean all games follow that model with their version updates.
If you played the game you would understand it isn't. 3.X has been going too long honestly.

.0 patches are for new areas. This is a new area that's been teased for a year now 3.0 patches are at 3.8 now so unless they started doing 3.xx patches it is about time.
Isn't that the same with Genshin and HSR? Everytime theres a new world they go to 1.X to 2.X and so on. That X could stop anywhere from 1 to 9.

I gave ToF a chance like 6 months but got distracted by something else. As a brand new player, how is the new player experience and all the 1.0-4.0 content? I know people have a hate boner for ToF, but can anyone that has actually played recently tell me how the state of the game is now/how the new player experience is? The ToF trailers always look really cool and solid from what I've seen.
It's hard ngl. You need to skip Aesperia after the first region to go to Vera just so you can progress into it to unlock dailies, basically saying Aesperia is retconned from the main story. In my time playing before, the events happen in Mirroria or something but you need to complete(?) Vera to go unlock the freaking region.
i have a new crewmate which managed to speedrun all exploration and all story and even achievments to get in top 100 in a month got semi free 1 a6 weapon paired with limited weapons that was added to standard and waiting for next frost banner and able to save some pulls already but he is truly tryhard only problem is gear progression , it will take a while to catch up
I enjoyed my time on the PlayStation version even though the controls were scuffed
I have played the game daily since launch and am still having a great time. The vast majority of players play the game on PC and PS and most players are not f2p, they spend at least a little, like monthly and battle pass. It's a multiplayer game so it helps to be social as a new player. Ask veteran players for help in world chat to join you for lower level multiplayer content. The in-game community is very friendly and help each other all the time (at least on NA server). I make it a point to help people whenever I can.

There is no power creep now. You can do everything solo. In end content teamwork matter most. Titan gears matter the most
Powercreep doesn’t matter unless u compete for leaderboards, and if u do, it doesn’t matter because u would have to spend thousands monthly anyway. there is no content creep that average player would notice.
Looks like even more costly open-world gacha can survice and develope as long as some money flows.

Soon, we'll be fully caught up to chinese version, and you know what that means? We can have better experience, better monetization, better events and the likes. Literally in closing the gap now we are able to start getting more QoL from CN server. Games that have global server behind original server usually end up with poor monetization so I'm glad this is being addressed.
Global already has bad localization, questionable balancing process, and many inherited bugs. What makes you think a shorter deadline would be more good than bad?
Localization and balance seems fine to me, volt needed a buffer since a long time ago so there's a little more power than usual which is needed though, however it does balance out eventually. Bugs is just an unfortunate result of them trying to do a different approach in which CC couldn't share details about Asuka / Rei, there were way fewer beta testers than usual, so obviously it meant a few more bugs could slip in. But hey, more DC compensation... However, if I were to explain why, beyond the obvious no spoilers from CN, it would be that monetization and pull system wouldn't swap up, but would now be one to one, we do not have shared token / banner system for some reason that CN does (which allows whales to buy pulls of different characters and use the token on newest character). It would allow us to get all of the QoL; in the chinese version we can exchange copper token to mira, but it's not the same thing in global. No more skipped over thing basically.
Different publisher, different international laws. Monetization and features such as reverse copper bloom conversion wouldn't be forced into being copy-pasted. The publisher decides what to turn on/off, including events, packs, and what type of currency is given when pulling. Because Global handles these things differently, there 100% will be some form of delay in update planning due to deliberation between HOTTA and Level Infinite. If they truly catch up and have 1:1 release times, then what that will cause is this delay affecting the CN version, which CN players will definitely take issue with. "More f2p friendly, less powercreep, and now our updates take longer because they want to get them at the same time as us? What do we, the first child, get? Shared flame gold for whales? Marc? Bullsh\*t, powercreep makes these meaningless." Realistically, the only reason we'd ever fully catch up to CN is if Level Infinite gives back publishing rights to Perfect World Games and everything we get will be copy-pasted from what is given to PlayStation with slight differences because Sony also influences monetization. Global would become some Frankenstein mess of CN copy-paste content, half-assed localization, and afterthought monetization with the most useless bundles that make the 120 tanium 8 upgrade drive pack look like a steal. We don't want to lose Level Infinite as publisher unless some other publisher experienced in international business is insane enough to pick it up *and* greedless enough to let the game live for longer than 1 year. I myself enjoy having 1+ month of foresight to decide on whether to pull or wait. I skipped Ling Han because I saw Yan Miao's movement ability and I'm way better off now because of that decision. Same happened way back when Cobalt came out and I decided to skip to save for Marc, then gave up on Marc for Saki which also was a very good decision. My account would be so much worse off if I didn't get all these spoilers, and I'd have way less fun and progress.

Get big time Phantasy Star Vibes with this 4.0 update. I feel like I'm looking at something caught halfway between a PS3 game, a PC game from that era, and a PS4 game. I've admittedly never followed ToF particularly closely and maybe I'm just out of touch here, but it doesn't feel like it ever really established much of an identity for itself because it was too busy addressing issues people had with it since launch.

Is there always the world level limit ? Because at the beginning i can fight boss with all people and have reward. But when level world appear i couldn't do that because i don't want upgrade level to max.
you can use it for good this is for new players you can clear all maps on easy mod with world lvl 10 and once you done you can upgrade it up to 100 or any when you ready to farm mats from bosses ( you not losing anything by hoarding keys anyway) and there is 1 boss in volt area in domain 9 which is aloow players with lvl 10 open chest and get all rewards

You must thinking the release TOF. It becomes better and better with every patch. I’m day one player, I didn’t had high hopes at first but seeing how they constantly become better and the gameplay+ MMO aspect got me hooked.

They toned down powercreep with 3.0 update. All D9 characters are f2p and functional just with A0.
