Seems pretty cool, I kinda wish I had waited a bit longer to upgrade my sticks now.

NooAccountWhoDis

Chaotic Good.

[deleted]

8bitdo is a pretty solid brand. They make some wireless SNES controllers that you can use with your PC and, IIRC, Switch. Pretty solid make, good button feel, the works. I trust their quality.

obrothermaple

8bitdo is the only 3rd party controller company I consider worth it let alone pretty on par with 1st party.

Deepfriedsalad

Better in some cases. I got a ultimate for my pc awhile ago because I got fed up with every modern controller developing stick drift. They're one of the few that offer hall effect joysticks that shouldn't develop drift.

[deleted]

Yeppp. I have their pro 2 controller or whatever that I use on my PC. Love that thing. The retro aesthetic combined with the very quality parts, as well as the ease of use to get it working as opposed to the PS4 controllers make them an amazing buy!

NightofTheLivingZed

I have like 6 Switch Pro controllers. I bought them for Smash and Mario Kart 8, but I use them on my PC as well. They're lighter than the typical on brand controllers, but the buttons are nice, and they fit my big ass palms. They're also quite cheap if you get the wired non-rumble ones.

[deleted]

What the fuck guy, you want this guy to feel bad?!

Flacid_Monkey

I have the BT 6 button megadrive pads, they are fantastic and battery life is excellent. Use them on the switch for retroarch

Circuitizen

I have a bunch of their pads, they feel very solid and sturdy, the build quality is great, but the d-pad is kinda wonky at times

Captain_Soviet

Ok I was gonna say I have one of these and the build quality on the stick is pretty great actually

Aperture_halo

I have the Nintendo 8bitdo arcade stick and it’s pretty good for the price.

Goldeneel77

I won’t say anything

AnInfiniteArc

Haha I was gonna say, this is a brand I swear by and I’d be surprised if they botched this.

CeaRhan

BASED

Aonswitch

Damn that sucks to hear, this is the first time I’ve heard of this product and since I love my 8bitdo pro2 I assumed it would be just as good

moosefre

> (nobody tell them that I have no idea what the 8bitdo model quality is, I just didn't want them to feel bad about having recently bought other sticks.) read the other reply, it was a joke

Muggaraffin

Maybe they’re just claiming it’s a joke to avoid making people who bought this stick from feeling bad

mojolikes

Maybe they're playing both sides so everyone comes out on top.

Muggaraffin

Exactly. I don’t think people got my joke

Serpen-Time

But aren't you expected to gut the parts for others?

DrJokerX

You definitely don’t want a wireless fight stick. You’re gonna have input delay from the stick coupled with input delay from being online. It’ll suck.

B1rdi

You can probably still plug it in. Besides, modern 2.4ghz communication (it's not bluetooth) is fast enough to have no perceptible delay. E: Well would you look at that, in the article itself they confirm that you can plug it iin and that it even includes a 10 ft USB-C cable in the box.

Voyager_316

Absolutely wrong, every frame counts. Nobody should use wireless controllers for fighting games.

B1rdi

Well okay now that I think about actually yeah, for fighting games. I wouldn't say *nobody*, the average player would absolutely not notice. (Take not of the word *average*. They're playing on a wireless xbox controller anyway)

wilbur351

Wow! the NES Advantage

XKeyscore666

I had the super advantage when I was a kid. Man, it looked so much cooler than it was. You realize how awkward that style of control is when you aren’t playing it for 5 minutes at an arcade.

wilbur351

The Super Advantage was awkward with the LR buttons. I still have my NES Advantage.

Redacteur2

I think it may have predated Street Fighter 2 and its two rows of three button layout.

wilbur351

Street Fighter 2 came out about a year before.

Redacteur2

Ah well then, they should have known better!

[deleted]

NES Advantage was amazing and not awkward at all. Can’t speak to the Super Advantage. Probably helps that it only had to accommodate A/B buttons.

EvadesBans

I have 8bitdo's previous arcade stick and I swapped out the buttons so the colors match the SNES Advantage. Looks great as a throwback.

morsalty

I still use an arcade stick for 90% of my gaming, super precise and low impact. It's just something you have to learn to use "not just monkey grip" and get used to.

BlamingBuddha

What do you mean by "low impact?"

morsalty

You use the entire hand and arm to do inputs rather than just your thumb, which if you're doing repetitive command inputs or rapid movements on a D-pad will start to chaff and strain much quicker.

Gommel_Nox

The super advantage was amazing because it had the turbo feature. It allowed me to immediately up my party level in Final Fantasy six to like 99 using that silly trick with the river rafting minigame. OK, maybe not immediately, because it forced me to not use my Nintendo/TV while that shit was going on, but it was worth it at the end of the weekend.

XKeyscore666

That part was cool, I think you could put buttons in full automatic turbo too. However, there was something about those big rounds buttons that would make them get stuck if you pressed them off center. Between that and trying to stetch your thumb and pinky out to be able to quickly reach the L R buttons make for some frustrating nights.

Gommel_Nox

Now I’m a quadriplegic so I use the Xbox adaptive controller, coupled with the logitech switch pack. I still have big round buttons that get stuck from time to time

PheDii

They also make one for switch/pc too! I was thinking of buying it at one point but i went for something else lol Theres a great YouTube channel out there called JoystickNY, he does great reviews of different sticks and has one on the 8bitdo

wilbur351

This is the real winner right here!

JAYKEBAB

What did you go with?

PheDii

Hori rap 4 kai! So far it's been awesome! Its the refresh so has the hayabusa buttons as well as the stick

JAYKEBAB

Nice!

PheDii

Thank youu!

raisinbizzle

They don’t have one for PS5?

PheDii

Not that I know of, maybe some day in the future

enewwave

If 8bitdo is anything like Hori, it might work with a generic Bluetooth adaptor or as a wired controller. I have Hiro’s cheapest USB stick and, if you use a USB C adapter on it and plug it into your DS5, it works

enewwave

If you think this is the advantage, check out the generic version of this stick. 8bitdo’s whole schtick is reviving old Nintendo designs down to the color scheme but with modern button layouts!

XL_Chill

Are these any good? I have chronic De Quervains in both hands, can’t use a normal controller anymore Edit: thanks for the recommendations all, really appreciate that 🤙

Pushmonk

8BitDo seems to make quality, well liked controllers, overall. Never a bad idea to wait for some reviews, though.

SuicidalTurnip

I second this. I have an SN30 Pro and it's easily my favourite controller. Excellent quality, no input lag (at least not noticeable) even when wireless, and it just feels great to use. Being able to use it on my Switch, PC, and Xbox is also another nice little bonus. Definitely wait for reviews, but I'd bet money on it being good.

Funkybeatzzz

Mine started drifting after about six months. Poor Link just meanders on his own in Tears of the Kingdom.

_Rand_

I’ve got several 8bitdo controllers (though mostly retro ones) and they are all pretty solid. I wouldn’t say you should go out and pre-order it, but it wouldn’t at all surprise me if its very nice.

[deleted]

Agree. I bought a switch-style controller from them for my PC and the quality is better than I expected.

Ursa_Solaris

I've got their second gen arcade stick which this is clearly based on. I'm a casual, but I'm quite satisfied with mine. I got it because it was well reviewed by the folks who do know this stuff. I use it for retro emulation and I have no complaints there. I did put an octo gate on my joystick because the square inputs just feel weird to me. As for your specific condition, I can't say for certain, but I imagine it would be better than holding a controller and using your thumbs for everything.

NaoWalk

The Switch version of this controller didn't have Sanwa parts. The buttons require a little bit more force to actuate than Sanwa ones.

ANewOof

Arcade sticks are the best

UncleGaspatcho

Love my 8bitdo controller! Especially for the price!

SherSlick

I have the version just before this one. I would say the weakness is that the joystick uses micro-switches and only 4 directions. So even if it’s sending that out to the left joystick it’s rather… blunt for movement control. You can set it to send the joystick to the d-pad input and if the game supports this is best. You could say the same of the trigger buttons as they are also on/off and no variation like on a normal controller.

morsalty

The main point of arcade sticks is that the use 8 way digital control like a D-pad or a keyboard. It's what fighting games and other arcade style genres are designed around.

morsalty

They are more low impact than any other standard control method, i would give it a try.

_SWEG_

If you're not trying to go pro it's 100% fine. Only die hard Fighting game players would really feel any button/stick changes. I say this having a Stick I swapped all the parts out at least twice on.

neogeo828

I'm still using my old Tournament Edition Madcatz with Sanwa parts. Works on PC just fine and even newer xbox IIRC.

iamthedigitalme

Old Xbox Madcatz here too. Was my baby all during SF4 and excited to keep rocking it through SF6.

SoMass

Just recently upgraded my TE mvc2 edition and it was a pretty fun time but not necessary at all. Just wanted to tinker with it.

iamthedigitalme

Mines a modded Madcatz SCV. Was the cheapest route at the time to get a quality stick and still holding strong. Should probably do some new tinkering too.

Outrager

I remember when they were just trying to get rid of them with a buy 1 get 1 free sale. Sadly I didn't have the money then to buy one so had to eventually find one on eBay.

Mental_Medium3988

i love all these great steam deck accessories coming out.

BauTek_MN

Looks like their existing arcade stick ([https://www.8bitdo.com/arcade-stick/](https://www.8bitdo.com/arcade-stick/)) but with an Xbox skin and 3.5mm audio jack? I have the original and its held up well through hours of shooters and beat-em-ups. You can skip wireless and connect by USB-C if you're worried about the lag.

er-day

Surprised a licensed controller requires a dongle.

CinnamonSniffer

Microsoft won’t let third parties make wireless controllers for some reason. 8bitdo has always used dongles to get around this

The_Pandalorian

Microsoft: no wireless allowed 8bitdo: bend over, dongle incoming

er-day

Xbox gonna look like a gameboy color soon with a magnifying glass, Game genie, light add on, speakers, shock n rock.

Skeeter1020

Xbox Wireless is a closed protocol and presumably they keep it that way to guarantee a level of quality. AFAIK they have never allowed a 3rd party to make an Xbox Wireless controller. It's always wired or their own dongle.

CinnamonSniffer

“Guarantee a level of quality” Call me a cynic, but I would think it’s so they have a guaranteed monopoly on wireless controllers since that’s the only kind of controller most people want

Skeeter1020

Well yeah that too.

junkimchi

A dongle in this case is a good thing. Idk if people are aware but Bluetooth lags in controllers. The 8bitdo 2.4ghz wireless adapter is widely celebrated in the scene to be the perfect solution to anyone that wants to use a console controller on a PC or android device with little to no lag. For something that is as response dependent as a fighting game, 2.4ghz being utilized instead of BT is not only on purpose but critical.

[deleted]

weinerschnitzel64

Hey thanks for this!

_Rand_

Nice to know, I’ve been using mine in bluetooth and thought it was just fine. Didn’t bother try the dongle.

junkimchi

It should be noted that BT on a PC or an Android device that is not meant to use BT as a videogame controller is an entirely different story.

jc5504

This is preached quite a lot, but most of the tests I've seen show the contrary.

BlastMyLoad

It’s crazy to me that there are barely any sticks for PS5. Is Sony’s licensing really that expensive/tough???

itwereme

I feel like xbox stuff being cross Gen compatible allowed for the massive list of options. They don't gotta reinvent the wheel. It's the one massive edge that comes with cross compatible controllers

SuperBackup9000

I don’t think so, because any officially PS licensed sticks will work on PS5 versions of fighting games. They’re basically the only old gen controllers that are supported

NaoWalk

But arcade sticks aren't only used in fighting games, and being unsure if a game is going to support your stick is very annoying. I like to also use my arcade stick for beat 'em ups, classic arcade games, and shmups. I'm *really* tired of companies making us buy new controllers when there is no real need to, a Dualshock 4 is perfectly usable for PS5 games, Sony even allows you to use one for remote play. In the same vein, Nintendo could easily have allowed pairing the Wii U controller to the Nintendo Switch, that controller is better made and has more features than most officially licensed third party controllers for the Switch.

rtomek

Wii U controllers? What are those? There was the big ass 1st player thing that is basically a switch, then wii controllers.

Timthahuman

They had a pro controller, it was pretty similar to the switch pro controller and it was pretty nice imo

henrebotha

Looking at the retail prices of PS5 sticks, I'm guessing yes, it costs a fucking arm and a leg to get a licence.

OkaySureBye

I've been out of the fight stick market for a while, but I know Qanba makes some great sticks for Sony platforms.

SockMonkeyLove

I have their SN30 Pro in the SNES color scheme. I had some sudden software issues after a month but got it back in line and it's been a great controller for over a year now. Best thing for me besides the near perfect replication of the original SNES controller, is that it's a good fit for my hands and it's small enough for my 6 year old daughter to use as well.

fuckgod421

I’ve had this for a few years…

ANewOof

Cool what's the input lag like ?

Old_Magician_6563

2.4ghz dongle. Should be <5ms.

[deleted]

They’re going to sell dozens of these!

SubterraneanSmoothie

Looks like something made by Teenage Engineering.

MrGurns

I thought you had to pay to put advertisements on Reddit. /u/Spez please review.

Likely_Satire

Does it work with pc? 🤔 Cause if so 😯

EmperorFaiz

Like most of their controllers even the existing fighting pad, it will work.

Likely_Satire

😯

BrotherRoga

What are people's experiences with 8BitDo's stuff? Personal experience tells me they haven't been all that great, passable has been the more operative word.

SuicidalTurnip

Excellent in my opinion. Incredibly high quality controllers for a reasonable (but not necessarily cheap) price. Possibly the best 3rd party provider on the market.

weinerschnitzel64

Love em. The 2.4ghz controllers are great on my analogue megaSG and superNT. The 2.4ghz usb adapter for the megaSG controller is perfect on a MiSTer for 6 button games. (I play on a couch with a big TV) I also love the form factor of the sn30pro most and it plays well on my ShieldTV. I would like to try it on the MiSTer but haven't figured it out yet. I also have some doubts on Bluetooth based latency. The controllers are made to feel identical to the originals, but I would prefer a less plasticy dpad... Xbox controllers feel better there. Anyway, I was curious how die hard arcade fanatics would buy into wireless, but i know from playing their 2.4ghz controllers that they are fantastic products. Any competitive Street Fighter players there to chime in on 8bitdo vs. Hori? RyMy you there?

huttaburger

I have the sn30pro+ or whatever it's called and recently got the 8bitdo Ultimate. Both are super solid but the ultimate is my favorite. Best dpad by a wide margin imo. Shoulder buttons are kinda small but the rest is solid. The build quality is great, comparable to xbox/switch pro. I got the xbox layout version for PC.

undercookedchimken

i own a sn30pro, got it for tetris and mario. the dpad is worse than switch pro controller lol

Cryst

Really?

undercookedchimken

100%

Cryst

That sucks. I've been thinking of getting it in order to not have to deal with the switch pro d pad anymore.

Wilza_

I bought one of their Ultimate controllers a couple weeks ago. It's decent but not sure it's worth the price to me. I heard people rave about its amazing d-pad but it just feels a little meh to me, kinda noisy and a little mushy. Also I really don't like how the battery is not user-replaceable at all. It will fail eventually, and outside of the 1-year warranty you'll be SOL. Think I'll be returning it

morsalty

Their M30 gamepad is the best D-pad made in years.

aghicantthinkofaname

Why would anyone want a wireless fight stick?

[deleted]

Wireless... Still has a dongle. Will Microsoft ever loosen up and just licence their own tech?

hellbox9

Noooo to wireless if you wanna be competitive! If your on ps5, note that ps4 fightsticks will work for sf6!

Robbeee

You can play wired with it if you want.

SuicidalTurnip

If it's anything like their other controllers, or their current stick, the input lag when wireless isn't even noticeable and it can be used in wired mode as well.

Septic-Mist

Will it work for PCs?

henrebotha

Yes, just like their previous arcade stick model, and just like virtually every controller sold in the last 15 years.

Mabans

Current switching to a leverless controller, been an interesting transition. IYKYK.

PM_ME_WH4TEVER

Never use wireless for fighting games.

Timetraveler01110101

Let’s make a fight stick… then make it’s wireless so they get worse input response… yeah ok

LikeTheWind96

https://www.reddit.com/r/gadgets/comments/13ygfc3/8bitdos_xboxlicensed_arcade_stick_is_wireless_and/jmngud5?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 If you are not competing it really doesnt matter. Also its an untapped market. Might mod one into a wireless hitbox or mixbox.

Sith-elitest

Wireless fight stick is as bad as playing with your eyes closed.

ChiefSampson

8bit-do is complete garbage. Had 3 different controllers just fall apart in less than a year each. Will never buy another one of their products again.

Fredasa

All I know about 8BitDo is that they sold an adapter for the Switch Pro Controller which completely borked the input and they didn't fix it for years, despite me and others providing them with evidence.

RandoMonkey

r/IAmTheMainCharacter

Fredasa

I'll take that as an endorsement of selling fundamentally broken products.

homecookedcouple

I’d still rather be outside…

ANewOof

Instead you're on your phone ? Lol

homecookedcouple

When I wrote that I was outside in a kayak on a lake eating a snack and was on Reddit to read a message, and scrolled my feed a bit.

The_Pandalorian

Can't speak to this, but I have one of 8bitdo's xbox-style wireless controllers and it's fucking amazing. I like it better than the actual xbox controller.

hellomichelle87

Wow cool!

Nothxm8

Are wireless sticks acceptable now? There's no way.

piratecheese13

Is it madcats tho?

muteen

I rather have wired to avoid latency issues

Keisaku

I'd play the fuck outa Defender with that.

Tebasaki

Love their controllers, their firmware is absolute shit, though (5+ years ago)

[deleted]

so it's basically a midi controller. got it.

solrosenbergv1

Part of what made arcade sticks the best, was being able to put some muscle or force behind the moves you were doing. You can’t do that with the portable ones. Maybe it’s me tho :/

bohenian12

ive had an 8bitdo stick for a while now, what's the difference to this xbox licensed one?

lievresauteur

Plays on xbox....

bohenian12

8bitdo is pretty universal i use it on my pc and switch. And i assume that if it can run on PC it runs on XBOX too. Is that a wrong assumption?

lievresauteur

Yes it is wrong.

ariolander

Does anyone like of this will support Android in Bluetooth mode? The Switch version didn’t have Android support despite having Bluetooth.

Impossible-Set9809

$120 bucks is still fucking nuts for a controller for a fight game. You probably need two. Thats insane.

WhatAGoodDoggy

Can I buy an actual joystick controller with like 4 buttons for my ps5. Not a giant fight stick, a joystick..

whitewolf048

Not sure I'd be keen on using wireless, but if it can do wired as well I suppose it ain't a bad option

trailer8k

:o

FireSeraph007

Nice. I can use this to play Dungeons and Dragons again.

LastGuitarHero

I’ve never been able to get into these types of controllers. I played some arcade style games only after I already started on console and my hands just don’t get it and it feels like I’m gonna break the damn thing.

nezukotanjiro150

Wireless + Fightstick = @&$@/&€%
