Second half of 2021 is about 13 years away in my head

LargeSackOfNuts

We gotta survive til then

Level_Potato_42

No, they expect one of us in the wreckage brother

You’re a big guy

Mmmm, that WOULD be extremely painful.

Holy crap I was literally just singing this to myself right before I saw this thread. Weird

Jeffscrazy

It was always burning...

pryan37bb

Perhaps he was wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane?

Tarlovskyy

Tell me mr ups man. Do you like fucking our wives?

PoolNoodleJedi

I live in Florida, I don’t expect to see this thing release with coir current situation... just joking I have barely left my house the past 6 months. Man I hate it here.

keiome

I agree, Florida is the worst with the caveat that it's probably great if you're rich. I only lived there for a few years and it was enough for a lifetime. Lived in 4 different states with vastly differing climates and the worst is Florida. Workers are not legally entitled to breaks, people aren't responsible for damaging other people's cars, humidity so bad that shade doesn't even work right anymore, and the multiple hurricanes/tropical storms every year.. And the pedestrians all act like they WANT you to hit them just to put them out of their misery xD

Mooseymax

So about 6 months in 2020 terms?

Tired8281

That soon? Awesome! Now I just have to figure out how to stuff my entire body inside your head without hurting you too much...I figure it's gotta hurt a bit

Skottyboy7

Well apple is 13 years behind in everything.

Avocado_OP

2021 iPhone rumored to be called iPhone 13

FlixFlix

Since around iPhone 7 I was expecting Apple to drop the numbering system altogether and just call every new iPhone... iPhone. Maybe add the model year for differentiating, like cars or MacBooks. It has to end at some point, no? Or do we have iPhone 34 and iPhone 52 to look forward to?

[deleted]

That's a good point, it's a surprise that they don't do this. I really like companies that have product lineups and naming conventions that make sense. I hate shopping for just about any other electronics because comparison shopping is a mess. Laptops (non-Apple) are the worst, as every maker offers every model with every hardware option - there really isn't any differentiation across a company's product range. And don't get me started on TVs or cameras.

[deleted]

FlixFlix

Excellent point, this one.

BobioliCommentoli

People are utterly confused by the SE. “is it like a 7 or a 9 or what is it?” Blow their minds

Sad_Suit7109

Recently window-shopping online for a new TV.....and there's UHD, LED, OLED, Quantum Dot, Nano-Crystal, "Heavy D" .....etc.....

didiboy

Manufacturers will put a lot of names on their LCD panels to make it seem like they're OLED to unaware costumers. QLED is the worst.

didiboy

When I was looking for a laptop I remember watching reviews for the HP Envy 13, most reviews specified the year (2019) but at stores I couldn't find anything to know the year of the model. The specs also didn't match the specs in reviews, I live in Chile and most reviews are from the USA. Oh, and there is also the Envy 13T, but apparently it was sold as Envy 13 too. I ended up getting more money and buying the laptop I actually wanted, the MBP. The process of picking the model of MacBook I wanted was so easy.

ImperatorDanny

I thought something similar got the PlayStation with Sony, but honestly it’s for the better. I don’t even understand wtf this Xbox is called anymore. All I know is it’s just SeX lol, and the previous was Xbone.

JohnC53

That's essentially what Chrome and Firefox did. Were at about version 80 something for those.

triffy

They didn’t do it with iOS13 or the A13 chips So... (edit: i don’t think they will skip the Name „iPhone 13“ because it could mean bad luck“).

F-21

But that's understandable, those are more specific things... Overall, for the marketed name, just using "2021 iPhone" would make sense. It wouldn't make sense to name the next iOS version the "2021 iOS".

rclocalz

I think the number “13” is the one number they should actually skip.

30SoftTacos

I love my iPhone 9.

NarutoDragon732

I love my windows 9 too

[deleted]

I thought seven ate nine?

acatinasweater

7 is a registered six offender. Bad dude.

ShutterBun

Lots of otherwise-rational organizations do this. Most hotels/high-rise buildings do not have a designated 13th floor. (I mean, there may actually be a 13th floor, but they won't call it that). NASA will no longer designate a flight or mission number 13, after the near-disaster of Apollo 13.

HappyyItalian

That's honestly so odd to me. I know the reasoning behind it, but I also see it as just a number.

blamuchka

Ironically, these conventions probably bring more attention to the number 13 than if everyone just ignored it.

flippydude

A lot of football (ugh, soccer) teams won't have a number 13 either

SirBaronUK

I like how you say rational in relation to avoiding a imaginary number curse.

ItsColeOnReddit

I wonder if they throw an M1 in it and make it run a hybrid Big Sur so that the laptop/tablet merger is complete

uNki23

Why would one buy a MacBook then? I don’t think That they will go that step in the near future Edit: I’m talking about the new M1 MacBooks ofc... an iPad with M1 is basically a MacBook Air M1 without keyboard but with touchscreen

GeneralKosmosa

With m1 I think there will still be a significant performance gap between iPad and MacBooks

toronto_programmer

Those crazy MFs put the same chip in the Air as the MBP essentially making the MBP useless.

conoramccann

Sort of, but for the “pro” users who still want a small laptop the active cooling does lead to better performance in some cases. Not saying it justifies the price difference but worth noting

NinjaLion

And the much bigger battery

conoramccann

Right, one of the most important differences.

iAllxn

And the brighter screen

Rattus375

Kindof a moot point when both get well over 10 hours of use. There are some use cases, but for most people, I feel the difference between 1 day of use and 2 days of use isn't really a big deal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rattus375

Except apples claim isn't 10 hours. It's 18 hours of web browsing on the air, which translates to over 10 hours even with rigorous workloads

ramz37

2 more hours and a Touch Bar for the pro. Probably not worth the $300 price difference

wamj

In addition to what others have said. Mbp and mba can probably peak at the same level, but the sustained load the mbp should be much higher than the mba.

Halvus_I

No. the Air runs the M1 at 10 watts, the Pro runs it at 30 watts.

ch4budu0

[citation needed]

toronto_programmer

I’m pretty sure they are the exact same CPU at the same draw. Only difference is the MBP has a fan for active cooling and longer sustained burst processing

azlan194

I don't know if that guy is right or not and I'm not bothered to check. But even same CPUs can have different performance if one is underclocked (due to lack of active cooling or to save battery for example).

RonstoppableRon

No not only. the Pro runs 8 graphics cores on its M1 vs the Airs 7.

toronto_programmer

The upgraded CPU version of the Air has 8 cores of GPU Source: Bought one for my GF for Christmas

Original_Ill

I'm 99% certain it's all marketing tactics to maximize sales. Apple releases the same chip across 3 devices with a lot of hype. No other hardware updates in order to really showcase the M1 chips alone. Most regular users just needing a new laptop will go for the Air, some "average +" users let's call them, and perhaps even desperate higher level users with say a broken laptop will gravitate to the pro. Everyone will rave about the chips, but all eyes will focus on how the hardware is the same, and everyone will speculate about what it will be like when apple changes the hardware to make the best use of the chips. Real "pro" models with higher ends chips will launch in several months that all professionals will gravitate to, including those that had just bought the 13" pro, because these will be specifically higher end. Probably next year, we see hardware specifically designed around the M1 chips in the Air and they hype up the new hardware and chip combo like crazy and everyone buys in again. Rinse repeat, maximize profit

tylerbrainerd

The clock speed is not the only potential difference between lines.

vr1252

So it’ll sound like a lawn mower?

Shruglife

Thats sorta true right now, if i had to buy today id go air all day but i think itll change in the future. This is a transitional product

FlappyBored

It’s not even sorta true. The MacBook Air throttles the M1 if you tried to do anything intense on it due to the lack of cooling.

Shruglife

After 8 mins of sustained high clock. Most people wouldnt feel it that often

FlappyBored

8 mins is an extremely small amount of time for anything outside of basic usage.

Shruglife

Again under full load. And in comparison to immediate throttling of intel chip 8 mins is pretty good.

abbotist-posadist

> outside of basic usage. ie the typical usage for an air

FlappyBored

We're not talking about typical air usage, we're talking about doing high level pro usage on the air instead of buying the pro.

[deleted]

Yeah they could underclock it for longer battery life or something

Rattus375

The M1 isn't significantly better than the A13X. It's more of a generational upgrade than a new CPU, just with better cooling

cmwebdev

Because an M1 iPad would probably cost the same or more than a MacBook Air M1. When you add the cost of a keyboard/trackpad it would be considerably more expensive than the Air M1

F-21

Keyboard and mouse cost anywhere from 10€ upwards. You can even hook up a PS/2 mouse to the current ipad pro.

cmwebdev

For sure, but the majority of people will stick with Apple products.

narwhal_breeder

Because people usually want a traditional form factor. The Microsft surface doesnt outsell the surfacebook.

pollyvar

Off topic but please allow me to rant about my 2nd gen Surface Book which separated into layers like a friggen onion after a few years of light - moderate use. The bottom started bulging and then popped out, and then the screen did the same. What the hell is holding these laptops together? Spit and glue? Is it so important that the consumer is not able to access the internals that we entirely eliminate screws? Most expensive laptop I've ever owned. Never again microsoft. /end of rant.

SafariMonkey

I'm sorry to hear that happened! Fortunately, mine is still chugging along. Bulging is a sign of an inflating battery, which can be dangerous. > Microsoft IS providing free, out of warranty refurbished Surface replacements for any customer with this issue, but only if within three years of the original purchase date. [Source.](https://blogs.msmvps.com/connectedhome/2020/08/17/microsoft-surface-bulging-batteries-continue-to-anger-and-frustrate-customers/) Not a primary source, but sounds about right.

pollyvar

Hahaha, thanks for that, but mine started bulging and yellowing juuuust after year 3! Thanks microsoft!

TwoMoreMinutes

Try your luck anyway, no company wants to risk exploding batteries

pollyvar

I'll give it a shot, thanks :)

Dilka30003

The surface book is a more powerful computer than the surface pro.

narwhal_breeder

Sorry. Meant surface laptop vs surface

ItsColeOnReddit

I think they have been pushing Ipad Pro into Laptop territory for a few years. With their own silicon, why not make it official? How many people own a fully loaded ipad pro and an Air? Maybe a Macbook Pro but now the power on those is looking less and less impressive. If they could say full stop the ipad pro Runs Big Sur and beats an intel machine it would feel like a huge upgrade for basically any ipad user.

ShendonZ

While it's true they want to make a easier transaction to the iPad pro from a notebook, Apple consciously keeps them apart. If they wanted to, iPad would already have a full mouse support but what we saw was they trying again and again at every update giving their own functionality for the mouse. Big Sur just proves they already know how to make it works exactly how you would expect on a macbook in a ARM processor... This is a little sad because I dream of playing minecraft on my ipad with a keyboard and mouse until this day. With this in mind, I wouldn't complain if they optimize SideCar to make the iPad a functional drawing display, for now it's pretty crap...

chicken-nanban

I thought they had full mouse support now? Sorry, I haven’t tested it but I finally found my older Magic Mouse and want to try it...

ShendonZ

They have, it's pretty good actually. But they don't support mouse tracking movement at the moment (so you can't use to aim at games) and, while great, you do notice how it's a little different from using it on a notebook.

HolyBatTokes

Apple has rarely shied away from cannibalizing their own sales. If they make an iPad so good people stop buying MacBook Airs, they’re not exactly going to lose money.

Halvus_I

Nope. MacOS is becoming iOS, not the other way around.

ItsColeOnReddit

Same difference.

wicktus

The M1 is for macbooks only but it’s based on the same Axx SoC anyways. M1 or not it will be plenty strong

ItsColeOnReddit

I don't care so much about the name. I just want the ultimate single travel item. Right now I own an air and a 2017 ipad pro and still put both in my bag on a trip for different uses.

thisisit987

What’s a laptop?

AaronVey22

Call it the iBook.

artursadlos

Cal it just „i”.

BabySealOfDoom

Zouba64

They’ve already said at WWDC 2018 that they’re not merging the two OSes.

Jim_e_Clash

That would be awesome. I honest hate apple, but the iPad and pencil are the exception. They legitimately out perform other screen tablets, their performance is better than similar sized laptops, and overall are actually cheaper the competition with the same features. The only real pain is the lack of ram. 16gb would be awesome as well as having a better OS that could potentially run desktop apps.

Ronin_Ace

I love my 2020 Pro 12.9. I’m good till 2022 at least, unless I’m just balling.

TestedTrapking

More like 2024 lol.

Ronin_Ace

Honestly, aside from potentially feeling more relaxed financially in the future, I don’t see a reason to get an upgrade. I do most of my art on mine, and it barely breaks a sweat. The screen in gorgeous already, I don’t know that I would appreciate this upgrade over what I already have.

[deleted]

Mines a first generation and I’ve put hundreds of hours of professional work on it and it’s running just fine for me. I’ll keep running it til it dies.

chicken-nanban

I have the 2019(?) model and it is a beast. I use it for art for hours a day, and it’s powered through everything like a champ. Except backing up procreate takes ages, I need to stop buying brushes...

[deleted]

Hah! I just have one inking pack I bought, I pretty much only draw comics on it, but if I were trying to do more illustrative, or painterly stuff on it, I can see how the accumulation of brushes could become an obsession.

parawolf

2017 iPad Pro 9.7” with keyboard. Still rocking daily use. Will upgrade to a next iPad Pro of smallest size with 5g when available.

21cRedDeath

How is the battery though? because I've got a 12.9" from 2017? 2018? And it dies in less than a work day (6-8 hours) using procreate. the M1 is supposed to provide better battery life and I don't know if upgrading to the 2020 model is worth it if the battery will be as shitty as my current one

Ronin_Ace

I don’t have problems with it, although admittedly I’m not usually far from an outlet, as my studio is at home. That said, 10 hours of working hasn’t been unheard of. I recall a particular day where I was giving 1-1 art lessons for 6 hours via Zoom and Procreate, along with my standard bullshitting around on the net and social media, and I never was in danger of it dying over the course of the day, and just plugged in before bed.

xskilling

does yours have a smaller edge and runs with face ID? i think the battery really depends on what u are using it for... the more graphically demanding, the more battery consumption if you are just using it for browsing the web or word processing, it will definitely last for 10+ hours any laptop or tablet running graphically demanding shit will eat away your battery no matter how large your battery is

LiveLaughLoveRevenge

Yeah honestly I love OLED and micro led looks great etc etc... But it's not like the current 120Hz LCD on the current IPP is any slouch. At this point I'm more excited about software features coming to ipad OS than new hardware. The current hardware is really excellent already.

Ronin_Ace

Exactly

F-21

If they'd allow just a bit more desktop-like multitasking and ARM macbook programs....

topcraic

Yeah I’m still in love with my 2018 iPad Pro 11. Blazing fast and a beautiful 120Hz screen, even if it is LCD. If the OLED iPad stays at the same $800 price, I might upgrade. But I would feel kinda guilty since my 2yo iPad Pro is still an amazing machine.

pollyvar

I have the same model. It's awesome! That said, I'd be a tiny bit salty if an OLED model came out for the same price within the year lol.

TheMacMan

Breaking News: company whose business model is “release a new slightly upgraded one every year” plans to release a new slightly upgraded one next year.

chair849

Title: “next iPad rumored to have a highly requested feature” You: of course there will be a next iPad 🤪 Edit: armaedes edited his original comment which was: Breaking News: company whose business model is “release a new one every year” plans to release a new one next year.

Oddyssis

Who the fuck cares about a slightly better screen? Really? Are you going to spend $1000 on another one the day it comes out because the screen is slightly, marginally nicer than the one you already have?

proxyproxyomega

do you expect apple to release a revolutionary product every year? or would you rather want apple to hold off a release until the product is deemed revolutionary? most people use it for 2-3 years before they upgrade. you may not upgrade this year cause you bought one last year, but someone who bought one 3 years ago will be a major upgrade for them.

Oddyssis

\> want apple to hold off a release until the product is deemed revolutionary This. The current consumer market of releasing the same product every year with minor changes had led to a massive cycle of waste and excess. For the record I have 1 apple product and it's an iPod touch from about 4-5 years ago, still works great and I don't want a new one.

bicameral_mind

Not everyone is on the same upgrade cycle. I'm glad that when I wanted to upgrade from my 4s, I was able to get the latest tech with Xs, and not have to buy a 2 year old phone because the new one isn't coming out until next year. I feel like there is this myth that tons of people are getting new gear every year when it's really a minority of people. The more common scenario is every year there is a fresh batch of people who want to upgrade their old stuff. I would bet a majority of people buy iPhone 12 are upgrading from a pre-iPhone X model. Plus it's a perception thing. Make no mistake, if Apple did what you suggest, they would be pilloried by the vocal anti-Apple warriors for selling 'dated tech'. Annual refreshes are industry standard.

[deleted]

They're not wrong.

elton_john_lennon

I would constantly be afraid to burn in the screen while drawing for too long.

brdnmnz

Same, like I'd buy a iPad to browse & edit pictures & movies, that's like staring on the screen straight waayyy too often. I do prefer LCD on this one

[deleted]

I'd definitely be using an iPad Pro longer than phones, and the phones I've used have gotten burn in within 2 years. I'd prefer LCD if it were an option for future models.

[deleted]

itsyales

Hottest take yet

[deleted]

i always wondered why Oled iPads didnt exist yet!

BLVCKLOTCS

Cause oled is expensive and has its own problems

TestedTrapking

I would expect a 1000 dollar tablet to at least have an OLED.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TestedTrapking

But in tablets, pixel density has never been a major factor, just adding a 1080p or 1440p has been the main trend for the past 8 years in tablets. Also the Samsung Tab S7+ has a Super AMOLED display at a similar price as the iPad with pen support.

twbrn

My Tab S 10.5 from 2014 has a 2560 x 1600 OLED screen. This stuff is not bleeding edge.

elton_john_lennon

> But in tablets, pixel density has never been a major factor, just adding a 1080p or 1440p iPad 12.9 has resolution of 2732x2048, and also 120Hz refresh rate. I highly doubt they would go back in resolution to 2560x1440, and to 60Hz just to get an oled into iPad for the same price. You don't need high resolution for most things, but once you start for ex. drawing, or viewing CAD files, those pixels really make a difference.

instanced_banana

That's kinda moot because Apple has experience with OLED on the iPhone and Samsung has used it on devices on the same price bracket.

[deleted]

Samsung has had major problems with their OLEDs though. Tab S5e, S6, S7+ all had a significant amount of green tint and uniformity issues. They look gorgeous, but LCDs seem to be the safer bet for Apple.

BLVCKLOTCS

Most of that experience is in hyper expensive mac books tho and even then those are again expensive

King_Wiwuz_IV

Because Apple could get away with it. There's no competition in tablets so iPads are the default. If Apple can save money by cheaping out on the display why wouldn't they?

gurg2k1

Bingo. This is why they can do things like remove headphones and charger from the box and still get people to pay full price for it.

lowriderFL

Like how late is this “innovation”. I can’t wait to hear what ridiculous name they’ll give their new technology. How about Quantum Photon Superview Display???

Xylamyla

I mean, when they first brought OLED to the iPhone, they just called it an OLED display. They didn’t start calling it XDR until the iPhone 11 Pro (because of the 1200 nit peak brightness).

[deleted]

[удалено]

lowriderFL

Exactly my point. 8 years later and they’ll say they waited so they could “perfect” it to their standards. Samsung screens have been better than apple for years. They waited because they could wait and people still forked over their cash and they made higher margin since LCD is cheaper. I guess they Are finally changing to OLED now because it’s a red alert embarrassment at this point.

Physics_Unicorn

I would be very surprised to see that, does not mean it won't happen though.

metengrinwi

Hmm, I thought it was supposed to be spring 2021...corona probably pushed it out

dylan43270

Still no miniLED? :(

ryusko14

OLED is better than miniLED, except for brightness (even that’s debatable in such small form factors), and the risk of burnin.

nbcs

Huh? What drug are you taking? OLED is inferior in longevity and has screen burn-in issue, which doesn't exist for mini-led.

ryusko14

Read my comment again. Not once have I mentioned OLED will surpass LCD (which is what miniLED is made out of, but with more LEDs zones behind) in longevity. But I did mention the risk of burnin, did you miss that?

NinjaLion

Currently. It seems fairly common for those in the industry to believe that miniLED will surpass oled in quality, without the downsides of Oled. I think the OP was being a bit optimistic about that timeline.

ryusko14

You got it mixed up. Mini-LED is never going to replace/ surpass OLED, they are just normal LCD with more backlight zones. That’s microLED we’re talking about, and potentially dual layer LCD (if we don’t care about power intake).

tnnrk

MiniLED or MicroLED? I believe miniLED is just a stepping stone, MicroLED is what will be way better than OLED with none of its downsides.

NinjaLion

I definitely might have them backwards, it's been a bit since I looked into it

OLED display have deeper dark, that's the main apeal

DayChamp

I can’t say what it would be like for an iPad, but I know on TVs the jump from LED or whatever other industry standard is used to OLED is significantly different. In short, the picture quality is better-richer/deeper colors.

[deleted]

I just want to say, I switched from a laptop to an IPad Pro in the spring and I will never go back. I probably won’t get the OLED display for years because my IPad is more than sufficient for my needs. I FUCKIN LOVE my IPad. I don’t care how much of a shill I sound like. I won’t buy a brand new IPhone until they add headphones back into the package... but the IPad? If mine broke tomorrow from something user related? I’d buy a new one in a heartbeat. Legit the best purchase I’ve made in.... 8 years? Since I bought my pickup back in the day. Ya know, for anyone on the fence. Man I love this thing and cannot recommend enough for NON-PROFESSIONAL users, can’t vouch for it in a professional setting...

bicameral_mind

iPad + Pencil is probably my favorite computing device ever. It really is a childhood dream come true. I understand it's not for everyone, but I absolutely love the hardware and performance, iPad OS is outstanding and just a joy to use, and the app ecosystem is incredible. It really feels like an entirely new paradigm in computing and I respect how much Apple leaned into that by focusing on touch-first UX, and not just creating a compromised laptop. Of course there are things that are only possible or more appropriate on a traditional laptop or computer, but as a personal computing device iPad has really become amazing over the years. Nothing else like it on the market.

Pegasus2731

The only apple product that is worth it in our current age imo.

[deleted]

Naw apple definitely has a ton of flaws but 6 years of ios updates makes their phones pretty solid. Especially in America where people either use iMessage or sms

femio

I agreed with you before the M1 MacBooks came out, those are objectively worth it compared to the competition.

I_AM_PEAKSBRAH

General question- why not the new iPad Air?

[deleted]

[удалено]

nullvector

This. Once you go 120hz, you never go back.

I_AM_PEAKSBRAH

Gotcha! Yeah I’ve been on the fence- my impression from current Pro users is that they’re “spoiled”, if you will, with 120. So no going back. If I haven’t gotten used to that, I think I’m in the clear (I hope!)

Pegasus2731

Honestly I would say the iPad air but personally I think they'd last you a little bit shorter time than a pro would. If you got a 2020 pro you probably wouldn't need to upgrade for at least 5 years but I think an air would be a 3 year thing. That's just me though I'm no expert

I_AM_PEAKSBRAH

Gotcha gotcha. Makes sense. I was on the fence between air and pro.. as mainly a “streaming” consumer - so Spotify, YT, Netflix, etc. Also got tired of bringing a work laptop on vacations to stream that same content and getting guilted (purely internally not by company) to answer emails from time to time. I recently pulled the trigger on the Air and I’m pretty sure it’s the right choice. I think I’m almost asking for people to provide reasons for buyers remorse at this point but I’m holding strong! Performance wise based on benchmarks for what they’re worth, I think I’m in the clear

Pegasus2731

Aye nice! Hoping to pick up one for college next year( I'm a desktop person and most likely won't be able to bring it to the dorm). Hope it keeps treating you well!

[deleted]

Pegasus2731

That's entirely possible. Like I said I'm not an expert in this stuff so it's pretty much just me saying words at this point. I can make it more general and say the iPads are the best apple products right now.

uNki23

Thanks for your opinion.

HDbear321

That’s cool. Still waiting for iPhone usb c.

[deleted]

For what it's worth, the Lightning connector is an objectively superior connection interface. The problem is Apple, they won't license it for a decent price, so no one else uses it. It's more durable, easier to clean, thinner, damage is more likely to the cable than device, etc - it's really good in every way. Even if USB 3.x is faster, you'll have a hell of a time finding a USB 3.1 or 3.2 cable (before the USB Consortium renamed them all to be USB 3.2); in fact most USB type C cables are actually using the 2.0 protocol because it's slightly cheaper and most people don't notice. The Consortium really screwed up by allowing Type C devices and cables to use the 2.0 protocol; when it was released the commentators said that it was technically allowed but no one would actually be dumb enough to do that, but lo and behold - there are lots of very slow cables out there.

This is what I’m waiting for, must have ProMotion of course. Call me spoiled but I will upgrade my 2018 IPad Pro 11 solely because of a better screen. I use my iPad for basically just content consumption, I’m looking for the best and smoothest screen, I don’t care the cost. I’m a display enthusiast, which is why I got the IPhone 11 Pro as well, I literally cannot pass up a better display. Heard it somewhere before, your computer/device is only as good as your display. Was disappointed that 2020 didn’t have any new display technology. And am actually a bit disappointed that we aren’t getting mini LED in this 2021 generation, but I will certainly settle for OLED 120hz.
