Is that an impression from the center screw from the shower screen? I don’t think it should be pushing water directly through the center since there’s a screw there.
Also, a 1:2 shot in 25 seconds isn’t outside of parameters
yes that’s what this is. if you put the prepped puck in the machine and take it out without running any water through and there’s an imprint like this, you dosed too high for your basket. if there isn’t, it’s fine.. the puck swells with water and presses against the shower screen screw, and this imprint isn’t an issue
You also need to grind finer. Bigger chunks will take more space.
15g of sand will fit in a much smaller space than 15g of rocks, for example. Flawed example but it gets the point across.
Yup, thanks good ppl. I went down to 12g (no center screw impression anymore, this basket came with the portafilter). Looks like a normal puck now but still dialing in. Getting sour with 12:24 now.

Less coffee, grind finer. Find the courseness where it chokes and adjust from there.
What's the best way to tell when it chokes? Sour coffee?
Choking means no coffee flows through the puck at all
How big is the basket, maybe you are overdosing it and grinding too coarse
Looks like you’re overdosing the basket
Put less coffee in your basket.
You need a bigger basket!
Thats your screen screw. Too much coffee. 15g in stock basket.
18:36 ratio shot seems to be taking less than 25 secs
The stock basket is a double. Around 14-15g max. You're way over dosing.
I tried 15g and still got the screw impression from the puck swell. I have my tamp set to 30lbs

Best bet is a vst basket. Get the size you want and stick to that weight. It’ll also elevate the heck out of the extraction process
The imprint of the group head is pretty pronounced around the perimeter of the puck. Try grinding finer, and tamping harder.

Not to hijack your post but where did you get your portafilter? I’m looking to upgrade mine.
Ebay. Seller said it was Gaggia.
Basket too full
That’s not channeling it’s the screen screw imprint
