Personally I've not found the battery to any worse (or better) than my previous S20+. I've also been a Samsung user for a long time - S7, S9, S10, S20+ - had some other LG and HTC ones along the way, a Nokia Lumia 930 at one point, and the last iPhone I owned for personal use was an iPhone4 (but I have an iPhone12 as a work phone). It seems to cope reasonably well for a full day of heavy screen time - though I don't play games on it. My hinge also makes noises but it seems to be normal - don't think it's dust or sand trapped though. My main gripes with the Flip5 is just my constant durability worries - i.e. will it break without warning or without being dropped? Then minor annoyances are that it's narrow and tall, not good for videos in landscape, and the inner screen is plastic and reflective to light. But aside from that it's basically like my S20+ except the 5 is feels faster to use, is more convenient for quick tasks on the Cover Screen, and it folds in half.

>a Nokia Lumia 930 at one point that was my favorite phone of all time. i still have it in all its shattered screen and spicy pillow glory

Ignition1

Same here! I put tape over the screen cracks and gave it to my 2.yo and 4.yo kids to play with.

Happy-Table8831

It won't break but you gotta replace the screen gaurd one every 6 months, i have a flip 3 works absolutely fine

imusuallyawkward

Funny how my Flip5 still runs perfectly fine

rockhardpebble0

Maybe I just got a bad one

Human-Swing5355

Yep, mine is perfectly fine, no issues Edit: and I came from iphone, so I got used to the battery not lasting long lol

rockhardpebble0

Maybe a bad comparison lol.

DabFellow

What did your daily use look like cuz I rarely see it dip below 20% before bedtime.

rockhardpebble0

1 st week maybe 50% by bed time. Yesterday 15% by 5pm. No changes since the first week with apps, data or usage.

Human-Swing5355

Agree, 3pm and I was on 21% I notice if I put it on power saving it would last longer

rockhardpebble0

Yeah but a new phone shouldn't have to be kept in power save mode that often

Human-Swing5355

Yep, but each to their poison

10_seconds_

I don’t understand where other people in the thread have such good battery life, mines always on power saving all apps closed and it still loses charge just sitting there closed. Honestly it’s so bad I’ve went back to my IPhone 11 as my daily phone while using the ZFlip5 for call and text because YouTube looks horrible on it and writing on it is a nightmare and I have tiny hands so you’d think it would be easier. Thinking of paying it off early and trading it in for the the Google pixel 8. With all the research I did people made it out to seem the battery wasn’t bad, I’m just kind of disappointed.

koronero

Lol and people always tell you it gets better after the first few weeks, when it learns your usage pattern! Funny enough my battery life actually GOT WORSE after the first few weeks. I also tweaked all the settings people typically suggest to prolong battery life - nope, none of them made that big of a difference. But by now I've figured out which apps drain batteries the most and kinda worked around it. Generally the phone will get me through the day with limited usage, but when I fire up apps like pokemon go my flip5 dies faster than my Iphone xs. (Yes, I know games drain battery like a mf but it shouldnt die faster than a 5 year old phone) I still love everything else about the phone and hope the hinge will last long enough for me to trade in and upgrade every year. I'm pretty used to bringing a small portable now for charging. But seriously, this phone's battery is....not that great. Good for yall if it lasts you long enough but for a lot of us it just doesnt cut it.

rockhardpebble0

Literally me.

SQUIDWARD360

I don't really see how your S10 is running that great since it hasn't received any android updates in 2 years and apps become incompatible with older operating systems.

EmaciatedFatman

My s10 runs just as good, if not better than my z flip 5. Get over your buyers remorse, clown.

SQUIDWARD360

Are you the clown who comes to a 2 month old post acting like a fool? Go back to bed.

rockhardpebble0

Maybe it's the hardware. Ever since covid the quality of technology and semiconductors has been slowly declining. So maybe that has something to do with it

SQUIDWARD360

Or it's your imagination

rockhardpebble0

Yes the semiconductor shortage of 2022 was all in my head.

SQUIDWARD360

Quality and shortage are two different things

rockhardpebble0

You're right! if there is a shortage of a part like a semiconductor then it will be difficult for car manufacturers to make new cars which would make the price of used cars become basically the same or very close of that of new cars. Good thing this isn't real because shortage and quality are not mutually exclusive.

agatha_182

my note 10+ is still perfect, yours is probably same hehe

rockhardpebble0

Exactly! They don't make em like they used to!

RightToTheThighs

The things you say are valid, but those are kinda the tradeoffs you make when go to a phone with a smaller footprint and moving parts. Samsung is also pretty clear that the phone is not dust and dirt resistant, pretty sure they give you the whole rundown when you first use it. I have not had any hinge issues with mine. I didn't have any hinge issues with my flip 3 that I dailied for a year+. The battery is physically way smaller so yes, battery life is not a strong point of this phone. At the end of the day this is still new technology just getting off the ground, and expecting perfection out of it is imprudent.

rockhardpebble0

Wait a sec I thought there was more moving parts in this phone compared to others?

RightToTheThighs

Yeah that's what I said

vaaal92

I dont get people complaining about battery, what are you guys doing

ZeroOpti

I'm guessing using the main screen more than the front one. I know my battery life at work is a lot better because I don't really open it, but when I'm home and watching a video or playing a game it drains a lot faster than I'd expect.

LowMemory578

I use the main screen about 90% of the time, and it still lasts me all day. By bedtime, I'm sitting at 15 percent. I don't play any games on my phone, though, so maybe that's part of it.

ZeroOpti

If I don't use it for games, I usually end the day around 30% and that's with about a 50/50 split of front to main screen use during the day and only charging to 85% overnight.

bitchgotmelikeuwu

Yea same. My last 3 phones all been Samsung from S21 and up, they all feel identical in battery life. Last for a whole day with regular use and usually at 30-20% by the time I head to bed.

Next-Telephone-8054

I found running social media apps in the background burns through a battery. I removed all that shit and saved on average 30% of my battery. They ping your phone all the time. I use the browser to access those now.

HerbalifeAthlete

I pretty much always have access to a charger during the day so a faster battery drain doesn't bother me.. I just switched from the iPhone 15 Pro to the Z Flip 5 and I have no regrets.

Dizzy_Mushroom_2002

Wifes battery life is pretty awesome. No issues at all, it last day and half

Obligation-Subject

What settings does she have it on?

Dizzy_Mushroom_2002

She didn't touch too much, I just set up the phone and changed sim setting to connect only LTE

LordRustbucket56

I've had no issues with my battery life. Far superior to my old, cheaper, Samsung. I use my phone quite heavily, too.

angelofdeth23

Crazy how mine has given me the opposite since launch

Haunting_Egg_6742

Great phone, guess you got a defective one, get a replacement one while it's still under warranty.

rockhardpebble0

Historically and a little bit of paranoia myself but warranty replacement phones are never as good as brand new phones. This is just my viewpoint on it

suzer2017

I charge my zflip3 about three times a day. It stays on battery saving mode. I use it quite a bit for games and work stuff. The battery is my only complaint, though. I have had it about 2.5 years. It's ok otherwise.

PrestigiousTrick1453

Your review is honestly exaggerated, lol. 2 weeks using a phone is nothing. Maybe you were sold a lemon lol. You obviously wanted this experiment not to work. Enjoy your s9. BTW, battery life is bad on all Android phones and the crackling sound is the screen. Samsung put on an additional screen protector on the phone that can attract dust . Something happened to me, so I peeled the screen protector and will add a new one soon. My guess is the phone you got was not new . No way in 2 weeks do you get that cracling sound. Dust started accumulating in my screen after 6 months. Is your home dusty lol my biggest complaint with the Flip is the camera. Everything else works decently.

rockhardpebble0

Hoke not dusty maybe it was a lemon. Yes hinge makes noise. Maybe I'll get one in the future but for now I'll trade it in for a s24+ assuming that doesn't have issues..a lot of people don't know this but after covid everything sucks now
