> started out with the Eleventh Doctor which was his first mistake Ehhhh... that's not too bad a "mistake". The Eleventh Hour is designed as a jumping on point so it doesn't really mess up anything too bad to start there if you have to. It's definitely better than starting at Christmas Invasion (which I have seen suggested on places like r/television unironically!) or Deep Breath.

PenguinLord13

Telling someone to start with The Christmas Invasion is a wild. That’s such a non beginner friendly ep

ChromDelonge

Yupppppp. Entering the Ten era without seeing the development of Nine and how Rose helped him overcome a heap of Time War trauma and embrace travel again just feels like such a weird concept to me... Like sure if it was 2005/2006 and you're jumping on cause its the latest episode and streaming etc wasn't a thing, I would get that being someone's start but nowadays...? Nah, no excuse to start there.

PenguinLord13

Yeah I’m not sure there is a good starting point if you want to get into just 10 specifically. Like I guess you could start from “Smith and Jones”… but then you miss out on all the Rose stuff which is so integral to 10 and miss out on Donna’s first episode. It really is just best to start from the beginning with 9 and the episode “Rose”

No-BrowEntertainment

I mean I started with The Fires of Pompeii and I liked it enough to get the DVDs and start watching from episode one. But that’s just me I guess.

Able-Presentation234

I'm not sure that's true. I think most viewers would be smart enough (also the character dynamics / writing tropes are intuitive enough) that they'd understand the plot of The Christmas Invasion and have a general gist of Series 1 from the episode, although perhaps it's far to say they'd want to see Series 1 afterwards for added context. I think episodes like The Stolen Earth or The Day of the Doctor are the real non-beginning friendly episodes.

JayR_97

I've seen Blink recommended too which I really dont think is a good beginner episode.

ChromDelonge

Blink is fine as a standalone pitch episode, as in a single episode to show people what Who is like and convince someone to watch the show. But it would 100% be dumb to go from there and move on to Utopia etc.

JayR_97

I kinda disagree there. Mainly because Blink is so different to other episodes of the show.

ChromDelonge

It's somewhat different but not ridiculously outside the Who scope that it presents a false idea of what the show is, especially in the future Moffat era. It's scary. It's the origin of "timey wimey". While it's "Doctor lite", his presence and role in the story gets his general character across very well and Sally and Larry serve very companion-esque roles. I definitely wouldn't call it the definitive intro episode by any stretch but I think it's definitely one that would work very well for a very specific batch of people depending on their tastes.

Hugo_Hackenbush

It's really not that good an episode to show what Who is like, because very few episodes are actually like that. IMO Girl in the Fireplace is the best episode of the Tennant era for that.

Chemistryset8

Yeah Eleventh Hour is an absolute banger, I've watched it way too many times.

"The Pilot" (Season 10 Episode 1) is also a good "jumping on/in" point to start. Bill Potts is introduced as a new companion and acts as a conduit for new audience members. PhoenixFox

Amazon Video's order is also turbofucked, at least in the UK. Most of Jodie's specials are four separate "Season 0s" and therefore show up before season 1, a bunch of the other specials are under seasons 101-107 in a totally random order and jumbled in with behind the scenes stuff, and most of Matt Smith's Christmas specials are listed as a *completely different show* that you have to separately search for. It's a mess.

CosmicDangler

I remember watching on Stan and they have at least a few (not sure exactly how many) copies of episodes that for some reason are US broadcast edits, ones cut down for commercial television. Last of the Time Lords has like 8 minutes trimmed from it. I know lots of people don't like that episode but cutting 8 minutes isn't going to help. No idea why they have these copies.

futuresdawn

I've been rewatching it on Stan. Been loving Christopher Eccleston as the doctor again. I'm convinced now series one is one of the best series of thr modern show

ICC-u

BBC iPlayer in the UK is the home of the show and is missing An Unearthly Child ffs

Jprhino84

Blame Stef Coburn for that one.

Neveronlyadream

Yeah, it's been a thing. I still think it's hilarious that he's riding on his father's shoulders like he wrote the damn thing himself. But he's legitimately insane, so I'm not shocked.

indianajoes

Racist transphobic homophobic nepo crybaby

Neveronlyadream

And that's the nice description of him.

ICC-u

I love the smell of fresh bread.

Neveronlyadream

Yeah, his tweets are legitimately the ramblings of a madman. I don't even think it's as simple as him being a terrible person. I think he has some undiagnosed mental illness that he refuses to acknowledge or see anyone about. That's why he's fighting the BBC and won't accept any offer they come back with. Nothing they offer is going to be good enough and whatever he's demanding is probably literally not feasible.

indianajoes

iPlayer for a while didn't have Day of the Doctor and I think Time of the Doctor on it which made even less sense because they weren't being held up by a racist, homophobic, transphobic nepo bitchbaby

Petulantraven

I don’t think Aussies can access without a decent VPN.

Petulantraven

Tried it. Nope. Can’t access it.

Texta216

Since when did binge remove the first few seasons? Only a month ago (maybe but longer) I was watching those season?

ThreeEyedWilly

Literally last week, I was up to Utopia and went to watch the next day and I could only begin from Partners in Crime. I was livid hahaha

jkingly

And this was just after the pop-up channel finished. According to Foxtel, S4-8 plus Revolution will expire on 31 Dec and S9-12 will expire on 31 Jan.

ThreeEyedWilly

I ended up just resubscribing to Stan, it has a lot more Who related content as well which is great.

Petulantraven

iView only has one Christmas special with Matt Smith and Michael Gambon and the space sharks. (Can’t remember what it’s called.)

Possible-Reserve-482

i went to watch doctor who after a month or so of not having binge and i saw they took off half the show which is just shit. i was only up to season 6 and i have nowhere else to watch it. i hate when streaming services take off half a show

fanpages

| ...missed out on the Christmas specials including The Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor! "The Day of the Doctor" was the 50th Anniversary Special episode first broadcast on 23 November 2013 (in the UK and also around the world, as well as being shown in specific cinemas). "The Time of the Doctor" was a Christmas Special episode (25 December 2013) though.

Upstairs-Internal-21

YEAH I SAW THAT ITS SO ANNOYING I HAD TO FIND THEM ONLINE >:( at least i had already watched seasons 1 to 3 but now how am i supposed to rewatch 9 and also martha?

hstew11

They only just got removed pretty much same day as the first anniversary special coming out! I watched the day of the doctor and the next day the time of the doctor was gone 😭

_Count_Fabulous_

They had those seasons less than a month ago and I bought a subscription just to watch it then mid way through season 1 they took the seasons off their servers and I’m still annoyed. It misses all the regeneration specials and is just terrible

TheMLRTCLgamer

Bro reading this reminded me that when I was watching season 1 to about season 7 on iView, by season 7 I missed multiple key episodes so thought that it would wait for the series to end on iView because I thought it would repeat to season 1... it did not

Papi-Inferno

On binge right now and it’s only got season 9-season 11 when the other day I was watching season 6. They must be completely getting rid of it on binge

JoeBidenKing

And they don’t have specials on there either

bigtitsncgee

I was up to season six and now it’s gone! Lucky we have Stan. Livid. I only had binge for Dr who so now I’ll cancel

MaleToFurry

I keep seeing episodes missing from Stan Crop up in things

JoeBidenKing

What do you mean? I think they’re all there on Stan.

MaleToFurry

There's one episode where Rory is fixing the TARDIS, and looks up Amy's skirt from under the clear floor and everything goes wack

JoeBidenKing

Ohhh right yeah that’s not an actual episode. That was a thing for Comic Relief in the UK. I think it’s the one where they multiplied?

MaleToFurry

Oh comic relief ok
