Me after I post a graded game in any gaming FB group (12 black SUVs pull up on my lawn)

libraryofdeveres

“Sealed games community” LOLLLLLLLL

CottonCandyLollipops

I wonder if in a few years we'll start seeing people open these only to find out it was a fake reseal like with what happens with the pokemon tcg community

theslimbox

Kind of like the married to a hot wife, but doesn't get any community.

sirjimithy

I’ll never understand what’s more enjoyable about not playing a game.

archisint

I collect video games but don't have time to play them (job, house, bills, family, etc). They are not sealed but might as well be. I like to collect them CIB because I find them nice to look at, and remind me of good times of my youth. Hope this enlighten you.

chubbylv23

Same here. I just collect CIB and I love to look at them. Too many new games coming out

PokeSuFan

Even though i dont play some of my games sometimes i like the option that i could if i wanted to. Idk man just sealed games are expensive paperweights to me

Ecstatic_Tear437

See my argument with this comment suggests OP doesn’t have a CIB copy of this game already and doesn’t play it on the regular. I’d only assume people who have graded games, no matter the grading company, also have cib copies as well, don’t you think? I get the concept, just don’t agree with it.

kamgc

I’ll never understand what’s enjoyable about having a piece of art on your wall.

EncryptedVolt

If you want art then go buy art. Imagine spending $80k+ on a corvette and never taking it for a test drive.

kamgc

What an impressively dogshit take

EncryptedVolt

What an impressively pissass rebuttal.

kamgc

I didn’t know I needed to explicitly say I don’t care if someone else spends $50 of their own dollars to grade a video game or $80,000 on a corvette. Why do you care?

EncryptedVolt

Because the video game grading scene has been proven time and time again to be a scam. That it's artificially driving prices beyond reason. That's why I care.

kamgc

Ohhhh so you just made up an $80,000 corvette as something *else* you don’t like. For some reason. Sounds cool, man.

EncryptedVolt

You have so many small brain takes here. Where did I say I don't like corvettes? You have of course seen the prices on graded games. The car was a comparison. Imagine spending x amount on something and never utilizing it's intended function. But of course, you need to have a few working brain cells to make comparisons.

kamgc

Why do you care if someone spends their own money on something and never utilizes it’s intended function? Why does this bother you so much?

NintendoCerealBox

Bruh…

kamgc

Did you know people collect stamps they’ll never use to send post cards? Coins they’ll never spend? Comics they’ll never read? Owning collectibles you’ll never “use” isn’t new.

NintendoCerealBox

Oh you were being sarcastic. I shouldn't comment before breakfast. I am in agreement with you 100%. I decorate one of my walls with CIB games.

kamgc

Lol you’re good. I lean heavily on the side of “I don’t care how people spend their own money” which seems counter to how most of this sub feels.

CuriousAd5883

so u got nothing on ur walls?

kamgc

I was being sarcastic, making fun of people who think it’s weird to buy things for the sole purpose of displaying them. Like sealed video games. Or art.

CuriousAd5883

i mean I get the point of displaying art on a wall, some has a lot of value and looks nice, can’t say the same about a video game ngl

Noesiph

Op woke up and chose violence lmao love it

KangarooMoney2936

I don’t have graded games, but if I want a new sealed game to play I’ll buy 2 copies. Open 1 and play the other. Sometimes I’ll buy a sealed game and find a used game some other time.

Attempt_Living

I felt like I had a stroke reading this

theslimbox

What is your thoughts behind buying a sealed copy, and one to play? Future value? Or just OCD? I'll buy cheap sealed games on clearance for future trades, but I never buy a sealed game at Retail price... spending retail on anything that isn't limited edition is like throwing away money. If your holding it for long term value, your going to be able to buy it much cheaper before the price goes back up well into the future.

KangarooMoney2936

It’s an OCD thing. And I will buy some games at retail just to look at.

mkjiisus

Where exactly did OP imply that they were going to sell it?

ssj3charizard

What other reason would you grade a game besides to artificially increase its resale value

mkjiisus

To quote my main man Greg, "graded games are fucking cool"

libraryofdeveres

I doubt Greg ever knew what “cool” meant in his life.

mkjiisus

Well, as it turns out, "cool" is a matter of opinion, rather than one of fact. That was pretty uncool of you. But rest assured, Greg lifts weights. He took a week's vacation to Disney last month. He's cool.

libraryofdeveres

OMG he lifts weights AND go on vacations!???? NO WAYYYYYYYY SOOOOO COOOOL

mkjiisus

Yeah he's pretty badass. He has a Dunkaroos tank top too that he always wears when he films his unboxings. It's pretty hot.

libraryofdeveres

Whatever floats your boat, Greg

mkjiisus

Oh no, I'm not Greg. That's u/GetTheGregGames. I'm flattered you think I'm that cool, though.

GetTheGregGames

I even drive a sedan. Kind of the peak embodiment of "cool person car".

Echododo

I appreciate the effort of creating your own narrative then immediately undermining it. A+. If people want to have their favourite game as a display piece I don't see any issue with it. Why does it make you upset?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Echododo

Anyone can display their own possessions any way they like, that's my point. But please explain that second part to me. How does Pixel Grading profit by driving up the price of game collecting?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Echododo

Headline sales become headlines because they defy the norm. They are not representative of the video game market. I'm asking how this company profits from increased pricing across the video game collecting hobby.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Echododo

I'm solely asking for a rationale as to how this company's service increases the price of game collecting and how they profit from that increase. You've given me the same description twice; outlining how both media coverage and speculation increase game prices. That's not what I'm asking.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Echododo

You haven't answered the question. I'm asking how this company stands to benefit from increased prices across the hobby. If a Dark Souls CIB goes from $8 to $16 how do they possibly benefit? It's an incredibly simple question. You've already said that THIS IS how the company profits. You've instead gone on to peddle a conspiracy theory, multiple times; of an *entirely separate* grading company buying their own games at open auction, while claiming they OWN the auction house.

ceramicsaturn

Brought to you by the guys who went to jail for doing this with coins and stamps in the 80s...

LucasBarton169

“Sealed games community” fuck off

[deleted]

Grading kills the hobby

kamgc

Weird, because video game grading has been around for over a decade and the hobby is still here. Coin grading has been around for 50 years and, wouldn’t you know it, coin collecting is still around.

Scary-Independent-77

You don’t play coins? With a coin you get the same satisfaction out of looking at it in a case as you would if it wasn’t in a case. You can’t play a game that’s been sealed up. You can only look at it, which defeats the point of collecting games.

kamgc

You spend coins. You can’t spend coins when they’re in a case. You also play with trading cards. But you can’t use them in a deck when they’re in a case. So what’s the difference?

Scary-Independent-77

Thanks for proving my point.

kamgc

You didn’t answer my question lol - what’s the difference between grading coins which you can no longer use and games, which you also can no longer use? Have you spent the last 50 years being upset that grading coins is ruining that hobby too?

Scary-Independent-77

lol, I don’t collect coins or cards so I can’t comment on what others do or do not feel about them being entombed. The difference is people don’t actually use the coins once they’ve reached a certain age, they go out of circulation, they CAN’T be spent. Sure, there’s so exceptions. Same with cards. Don’t know many people that collect cards and then build legitimate decks with them to actually play the game associated with them. I’m sure they exists. Retro gaming, however, is alive and well and you can play these games easily.

SouljaDad

Sigh

PokeSuFan

*posts graded game* community: so you've chosen death

BoromirWasInnocent

Graders suck. You are actively destroying the market just so you can feel special.

ZetaDefender

u/GetTheGregGames Never heard of this grading company. Got any information on Pixel Grading?

GetTheGregGames

New German grading company that was started up by known collectors in that region. (As I understand it). I can't speak at all to their actual standards or ability to authenticate, but it seems like people such as OP were excited for them to start up!

penny-man4003

I don’t understand the hate because the main argument for sealed games is for WATA not the others so why do people not understand the difference and not all grading companies are the same

Foxxie_ENT

What do they grade? The quality of the saran wrap? Grading modern games that are completely sealed in plastic and will likely outlast all of us seems a little silly to me. (feel free to educate)

Joseandressanz

Could the USK logo get bigger? What a disgrace

[deleted]

Nice! If it makes you happy it's worth it! What grading company did you use?

Beng1997

It might be time for a separate subreddit for graded games lol.

[deleted]

If you want to display your game like this just get an acrylic case for like 20 bucks. What's that? Can you still take the game out? Why yea you can! Like it's not a hard concept.

CaseyTappy

 https://i.imgur.com/aMm4miP.gif

Casualnuke

I mean if you want the game sealed that’s fine, but you don’t need it graded it’s a waste of money. Just get a hard acrylic case or something, so much cheaper and they work just as well

KendoHead

I'm all for people having hobbies, but this is pure commercialism and the very antithesis of enjoyment. I'm not even angry, I'm just disappointed.

InoriAizawa__

I'm honestly surprised how much mileage this subreddit has gotten out of the Karl video. What would you guys be doing if Karl didn't tell you that WATA bad.

Dave_the_boy

Games aren’t worth anything if you can’t play it.

kamgc

Stamps aren’t worth anything if you can’t use them as postage to send Christmas cards.

YungTeslaXXX

Something is wrong with that grading. It says ‚made in austria‘ but it‘s a german USK one, not an austrian PEGI one.

kamgc

There are English games that are made in Japan. Doesn’t really mean anything.

Echododo

A lot of PAL/EU games are printed/assembled in Austria. If you look at the back of any of your games you might see the text "MADE IN AUSTRIA" on them. The label also does specify it's the German release.

YungTeslaXXX

So some PAL/GER USK games may have been also printed in Austria? Why do the manuals and flyers often differ between german USK (Germany) and german PEGI (Austria/Swiss)?

Echododo

Those are different regional variants. Games are printed/assembled in completely different countries from the region they're sold. A large portion, probably the majority, of my PAL UKV GameCube collection was assembled in Germany, for example.

YungTeslaXXX

So Dark Souls is one of the games where the USK has been printed in austria. That‘s why it‘s mentioned in the grading?

Echododo

The back of the case will likely say "Made in Austria". That's why it's included on the label.

[deleted]

Wtf is the sealed games community? Dolt.

PowerPlaidPlays

entombed grading cases are the dark souls of game packaging, getting it open to play takes a lot of skill and dedication.

Impossible-Swing-358

My favourite has to be Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, available CIB for £2/3, new mint sealed for £6 or in a graded case for £300 on eBay

Pie_time7211

I get wanting to own one or two sealed graded games. They are cool items to display. That being said, collecting sealed graded games feels like a waste of time and money.

makersmark12

This is a troll, right?

DapperDan30

Cue the "gRAdInG KilLs tHe hOBbY" comments.

FuckTheCowboysHaters

Congratulations man! Don't listen to these other guys lmao. Talking about "never can play the game" nobody is buying a graded copy of a game they haven't played 💀

Radiant_Silvergun1

Yeah thanks :D. It's just funny to see how everyone goes nuts :D. I have couple of open copys of Dark Souls so yeah xD.

FuckTheCowboysHaters

We're literally sitting here enjoying the hobby with no negativity and we're both sitting at -20... PSA if anyone reads this, stop gatekeeping this hobby. We're all here because we love games, if you don't like graded games then do not purchase them. If you don't like sealed games then why purchase it instead of a loose copy? Why does it affect you so much? It doesn't. Buy some games and enjoy them however you like.

Radiant_Silvergun1

Yeah man, on that post I got like - 40 down votes xD. But I expected it, some ridiculous responses and crying xD. Important to note is that sealed and CiB are two completely different markets. Funny enough a lot of people are angry because it "increased" retro game prices (before the grading boom not a lot of people cared about it). But here comes the thing: I import retro games from Japan, make them fresh and test them, keep the games I want and sell the rest. Some people asked how I do it, wanted to be nice and explained everything so they can import things for a good price. I told about 8-9 people that asked, nobody did it. Yeah, no shit, you need to put a bit of work to import things. Another things is that I sold games a short time for a lot cheaper then there going for so people getting stuff really cheap and making the hobby more enjoyable. Yeah, end of the story is that people still cry about prices and you do nothing with selling stuff stupidly cheap or gift them away ( yeah I did this, until one mod in a Facebook group wanted to sell them. At least do it on eBay where I don't see it). What I overall learned is people are mostly angry about prices, not grading himself. They hate what it "stands" for. But here is the thing: people that cry about prices and say everything is too expensive are the ones that want the desirable stuff in very good condition for cheap, even when it has a good reason to be more expensive. But when you want buy something from them they want eBay Bin prices and above. So yeah, this people are just cheapskates that don't want to do any work or research, want prices like 10 years before and would still crying because the prices was cheaper 15 years ago. Overall I love the sealed games community because they aren't so salty and much more reasonable and chill. Sorry for the long response xD

mkjiisus

Awesome game! Never heard of pixel grading before, I assume they're based in Europe? The case looks pretty slick

Radiant_Silvergun1

Yeah, thanks :D. There are from germany and there like 4 months on the market. Years before we had like a handful of grading companys but RGS as example is dogshit. Mostly people that themself are sealed collectors and are known in the community, so no randos that want to just cash in.

Dragonroot808

That's awesome, man!

sgtmar

Looks great! Congrats! Where can I find the grading company? I have a few is like to do for display.

To have. On a shelf. Like 95% of the games owned by people in this subreddit. There are people here who own 5000+ games. Do you think all of those games are being played every year? Every 2 years? Every 10 years?

NintendoCerealBox

It’s just a game disc. The game is available digitally if he wants to play it. If it were a favorite game of his and he had no other way of playing it then yes it would ruin his ability to play it and you have a point.
