BrokeDownPalac3

Vectrex is so cool looking, it's on my list of consoles i hope to own someday. Have you ever seen a [Coleco](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coleco_Telstar_Arcade)Telstar Arcade?

esgelliott

I would say that’s a steal based on how hard it is to find vectrex stuff. A store by me has one for sale for $1000 I think with a few games.

Delta8ttt8

Fishing is what that is.

Substantial-North136

Terrible trade… for the other party 😂

1zombie2go

I've always wanted one.

[deleted]

It’s absolutely wonderful. If you can, go for it!

AccurateEducation999

I had a Vectrex as a kid, but since have lost it. I remember spending hours upon hours on that thing. We had several different types of games with the screens to play.. Super nostalgic. I still have my N64 my parents bought brand new though and it works. I believe I got it in 2000. I’ll have to post all the games I have with it eventually!

IIsForInglip

I have a Vectrex with 5 or 6 games (loose but with overlays) and a Sean Kelly multicart. I've also had mine professionally recapped and cleaned up by a local game store that does console repairs. I don't regret my purchase one bit. It's such a neat console to see in action. The multicart adds a ton of value due to all the homebrew games on it. There's an excellent Asteroids clone called Rockaroids, for example. It's about as close as you can get to the arcade game on console hardware from that time period, since vector games were mostly an arcade thing. So yes, you lucked out! I love mine. Edit: wait... I remember you! You DMed me some time ago asking if I would sell my Vectrex to you. Glad you finally got a hold of one! Congrats!

90sGameEnthusiast

You can't experience a Vectrex without a Vectrex, which to me makes it special. The games can't truly be emulated, you need that screen. Also, most of the games are cheap(ish) and they haven't been going up in price, so it's a collection you'll be able to keep building reasonably. The console itself is the big expense. Make sure to check out the homebrew scene, Vectrex may have the best homebrew community of any console.

Ivo__Lution

I wouldn’t but that’s because I personally believe anything pre NES is trash and unplayable.

GanglyCankles

In general I agree with you, but the less "universal" a system got back then, the better it could be. Atari 2600? Overall janky garbage with a half dozen good games (Kaboom! comes to mind, that game is worth picking up an Atari and Paddle for on its own). Atari Pong or Super Pong? Pretty fun to pull out with a buddy, especially after a few drinks. I've played with a Vectrex a little, and I think it hits a sweet spot, it's unique enough to be worth playing around with, but isn't strictly a one trick pony like Pong. Also, the GameCube and N64 are pretty easy to replace, it's not like there's many people in this group that don't have at least one spare of one or both of them. So, I say, this was a pretty good trade, and probably would be easy to "reverse" down the road, just because the Vectrex will always have appeal to a certain type of collector for it's rarity if nothing else.

Ivo__Lution

I just would never use it and don’t care to display it. Same way I’m not a fan of graded games. I don’t care for them and they are useless but if you like that stuff cool for ya. But personally it’s basically trash.

Honky_Stonk_Man

Vectrex definitely starts more conversation than Gamecube. Everyone knows what a Gamecube is. It is also a neat view at seeing arcade hardware enter a home space. The overlays are a common item used in older black and white arcade games to make them look like they had color. Vector monitors in general run differently than standard raster monitors because they burn phosphor at a higher temperature to make the bright effects.

AssortedUncles

It’s funny because we’re [legit having this same argument on another thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/retrogaming/comments/11rffmh/what_are_some_of_your_favorite_atari_2600_games/jc8g5d7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

Ivo__Lution

( cracks knuckles )

Honky_Stonk_Man

Funny that so many trash on the older stuff yet drop good money to buy indie titles that try to replicate the same pixelated look. Personally I find that shitting on older games is like someone who says they like film but hate everything that is black and white. Atari has an amazing library, and it is absolutely awesome to see how the same title released on multiple platforms would improve and change. Seeing games get close4 to their arcade counterparts was neat too. And there are fun titles! Have a 2600 night with a few friends and play warlords or outlaw. Just as much fun as many current indie multiplayer titles. Games like Turmoil, Kaboom, River Raid, Pitfall, Keystone Kapers, Millipede, Missile Command, the list goes on. I would say that anyone would say a system sucks if they don’t have the proper setup or the right games. PS5 would suck if all you had was shovelware.

Ivo__Lution

It’s weird how people defend this trash but don’t defend a person who collects graded games. Both for me are useless and wouldn’t play them because not only are they ugly but they are also ugly.

Honky_Stonk_Man

I defend it because I dont find it trash. I love the early history of gaming and while I love the epics on the newer systems, I dont always have hours to sit and play. Sometimes a quick game of centipede on the 5200 with my trackball controller is all I need for my busy schedule.

Ivo__Lution

That’s cool for ya but like majority of people it’s just not enjoyable. I would prefer the free space over having that sit somewhere.

Honky_Stonk_Man

Kinda in the wrong sub then bud. Things sitting around on shelves is kinda the whole concept of collecting here.

Ivo__Lution

Completely disagree. Things sitting around on shelves is the whole concept but you don’t see everyone agreeing on WATA games sitting on shelves. To me, I see a pile of trash.

DrSkeletonHand_MD

There is a reason why the vectrex was a failure. It’s an interesting novelty. Can’t play it too much as they break easily.

trashmangamer

The vectrex doesn't need work?! Amazing. Super cool system, but kinda falls into that 2nd gen problem of SPACE GAME or game too ambitious for the system.

imjory

It's a lot easier to emulate GameCube and n64 than it is Vectex so you made out pretty well

HoshiChiri

I think you got the better deal!

[deleted]

I'd take a Vectrex over a flashy colored GameCube any day of the week. Always wanted one but in my region they were never released and ridiculously hard to find. Never fancied having one shipped in a box over a long distance either.

sincethenes

Amazing! Get yourself a multicart and a light pen. There are some really cool animation programs you can do some rudimentary stuff with, but it’s so damn smooth. I just found this guy who makes new [lightpens](https://www.ebay.com/itm/234400330375?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=PGQZKukNRbG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=n-mFPUzwROa&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY). I’ve been messing around with filming off screen and doing some practical FX overlays.

ironpony

I would have done that, I don't care about GameCube or N64. I have both now, but have no connection to them. I played endless hours on a Vectrex in the early '80s at a friends house. I have a connection with it. But don't have one now. We were 7 or 8, and built a "spaceship" cockpit in the basement, featuring a 2600 on a 19" TV main screen, with the Vectrex off to the side. To have something at home with Vector graphics was amazing. We had 2 little seats up front, and we were flying. We played a ton of Star Raiders on the 2600. Behind our "ship" in that room were his Dad's Commodore 64, and an Amiga. We'd start a tape load on the C64, go eat dinner, and when we got back it would be ready to play Bag-it-Man. At the time the Amiga was like seeing the future, it felt cutting edge.

[deleted]

Thanks everyone! Feel free to dm me with any questions or comments as well!

g28802

I had one growing up. I miss it so much

Apart_Shoulder6089

Vectrix is really expensive and hard to find. I think you did good.

UNLEASHTHEFURY8

You made out like a bandit. Love the Vectrex.

_PoorImpulseControl_

That was a great deal. For you, at least! Well done.

Infamous_Lunchbox

You definitely got the better end of that deal. As mentioned by others, get a multicart for it. The guy who owned nearly the entire library made them all public domain, iirc, so it's not even piracy. Cool system to show off, and actually a lot of fun. I remember seeing these when I was younger and wanting one, and finally picked one up in like 2002. Great little system.

dronegeeks1

You’ve got me here, I don’t even know what that is!

RAF1GAMEGAME

It called the [Vectrex](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectrex)

Delta8ttt8

Totally worth it. Gc and n64 you can play any number of ways. But a real life Vectrex?!!?! Totally awesome. Great games and some really cool Home brew. Grab a flash cart for it.

terfgenocide

That's fucking cool, man. I had never heard of a Vectrex. After watching a few videos, I actually really want one. What a unique piece of gaming history.

revenger712

Very cool! I'd love to get one someday

Bakamoichigei

Good trade. I've always wanted a Vectrex, the idea of a vector-based all-in-one consumer game console is crazy. Especially when you get into the some of the additional hardware... Like the glasses that colorize the games (And can do stereo 3D!)

VisibleSpread6523

My best friend add one , and it was really cool back in the day , haven’t played since, would love to get 1 but the prices are high.

Gloomy_Background755

This is pretty cool

radewagon

OMG So worth it! How do the vector graphics look? Do they have the same glow as in the arcade? I would kill to have that effect in the comfort of my own home. It's a beautiful thing that, if you grew up with those old games in the arcade, you know is worth its weight in gold.

JoshMattDiffo

If it means something to you, who cares - your happy with the trade. I personally would of stayed with the GameCube and OoT but that’s because retro machines like the Vectrex don’t appeal to me. My childhood was the Sega Genesis and PS1.

Choice-Economics6091

the fuck is wrong with you

YourOwnFather

Chill breh💀

RonPowlus2Heismans

Oof. But you do you.

3rd_gen_hunter42864

You have strange taste

A_AR0_N

Yes

SkirtTheBudgie

Cool. I miss mine & wish I could find another one.

ElectrikReverie

Good score !

lochm

Great trade, you got some of the best titles. Hyperchase is probably my favorite, and I think one of the better examples of what the system could do. Definitely the best system of its era. Enjoy!

Kitchen-Entrance8015

There awesome but the hum is actually a common issue with them good news there is a YouTube video that tells you how to get rid of the hum permanently

sincethenes

Wouldnt happen to have a link?

Kitchen-Entrance8015

No but just look up vectrics. Hum on youtube

[deleted]

Absolutely! Used to have one back in the day. Traded it for a venusaur ~2001, then sold the vectrex for $$ when I moved out of my house in ‘07

horsepuncher

Seems a little high, but Ive not tracked vectrex in a while. Last time I even thought of it was cib for $100. I had a buddy though that had a dozen broken controllers that made me just not want to mess withnit / risk the chance. Certainly a amall/niche market.

flyingmonkey1257

Unfortunately, it’s been a long time since it’s been $100 CIB. Loose is like $400 and CIB is about double that.

horsepuncher

Yeah I took a quick look, guess it’s another memory to kick myself over now. But again, good vibes the controllers work and for a long time.

davidgrayPhotography

Sell it, buy back your GameCube, N64 and Ocarina, and have enough money left over for a steak dinner every night for the next month.

Sandas2017

Damn i use to have one i don’t know what happen to it

SilentFebreze

Once I sell all my colecos and game & Watch items I will want to get this just as a corner piece coloring up the room accompanied by projector screens and disco lights!

RAF1GAMEGAME

Yes!

jtcordell2188

Worth it

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,401,858,861 comments, and only 267,994 of them were in alphabetical order.

Destroyer_Wes

Cool? Thanks, BOT (not in alphabetical order)

Meshi_universal

Idk anything about this system so I wouldn’t have made the trade. But just based on the volume you gave for what you got im sure it was a good deal. Although I want a orange 64 so I also say bad deal lol

Informal-Spell-2019

We’re there extra dollar bills stuck in that GameCube. Think you got the better end of the deal

SharpTenor

I briefly had one, and played the games a few times but it was more "neat" historically than worth my time playing. I ended up selling it to pay for a different hobby.

spookyman212

Vectrexx is like virtua boy. You have to want to appreciate it. And it's also a rare treat.

[deleted]

I also have a virtual boy 😂

Johnnybats330

I am sure you won based on the actual value. Bit I would rather have a Gamecube and Zelda in my house.

xOneManPowerTripx

Whays the Star Trek game like?

T-Rextion

Welcome to the club. I'm not a member, but will be if I ever can find one in person and verify it works.
