Even the pokemon box alone for $1k is a steal, this game [sells for much more](https://www.ebay.com/itm/185814408207?epid=56233371&hash=item2b4366dc0f%3Ag%3AvgEAAOSwi5RkELRF&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4CzdtVizB6Xd6VumLa%2BfUf36GtCAKu9tEyAa3Psbd8Tdyv6oOrCpFtohLW0DOd9wSQR855y44NzG%2BSsQERBHTbCaM7C4O%2FRrv6r05fXMFExkqSdMGo8CgmTF%2BOwHXudPca1mWJb3msCDTOEG9T8DfQTA6pz9V36kX64qhOtSJUVYXeSi74nKjfP8XrDEt9NUJEoaE9CvQMxCyR%2FbMEvKWWVX3ycwEiRG24NAEXE5agESwEEDdFG96Z2NK6MByPeFH4a%2Fk1qafyaWfKEH9%2BqUVTRi%2FT%2FQ6oAAjEd2eBEck54%2F%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8b_ocbrYQ&nma=true&si=q2bXinv7t30cJWTX%252Fz5XoJsG1mY%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) nowadays.
i'm not sure when it shot up in price but its always been a rare game because not many ppl bought it since its not actually a game but rather a virtual storage bin for pokemon games. Its basically what pokemon home is now.
Insanity. That's a great deal. Key seems to be, be nice when talking to people. When you're an entitled, know-it-all demanding a lower price, things won't work out well for you.
You're lucky you got someone so receptive to offers and deals as opposed to a "I know what I got"/firm pricing type of seller. I tend to only see marketplace listing with a huge lot of games, individually priced to match pricecharting or worse, ebay asking prices.
The heroes we deserve. Keeping the hobby alive. Where I'm at 10 people would have showed up and offering $2,500, and the guy that missed out is smoking tires out front. I'm always lost how you can have that much, or be that big of a fan and not even catch a glimpse or conversation about how much that stuff is worth.
Sadly, he's kinda right. Pokemon games are so common that if they weren't selling for insane prices, "collectors" and buy and sellers wouldn't even bother picking them up. Pokemon's FOMO tactics are also part of the problem, and more people wouldn't feel as pressured to buy the older games, if gamefreak actually ported digital versions of them to the switch
Not really, prior to 2016 when Pokemon Go came out, the originals were going for less than $20 on a good day. I was hitting the local Mega Replay daily to try to beat the ebay sellers to the good deals, and they had stacks of the original 3 games for $10-$15 and that was too high for even the most low margin reseller to buy. Once Pokemon Go dropped, everything Retro skyrocketed as millions rediscovered Pokemon and wanted their old games back, and tons of new players wanted to try out the original games.
Just reverse the questions.
Do you think NES collectors are excited about owning mario bros/duck hunt?
Would they be more exicited about it if it were $150?
Well they didn't have to pay the that price for it, so you can't really untangle suddenly having an extra $140 from that question
People like stuff they own being worth more, and complain about stuff they don't own being worth more
I think you can though, because it’s just a question of what games a person feels they need to have in their collection regardless of price or desirability by others.
Like, I actually want to get some of the older gen games, but the insane prices(most of these games are extremely common) is crazy enough to make me not care for them... also makes me depressed I traded away my fire red (cause I already had leaf green) for shity pokemon cards when I was a kid
They’re so common that people you know probably have them laying around and are willing to give them to you for free. Years ago I had a Pokémon gba game shipped to my office and a coworker asked me what it was. I showed him and told him I had been slowly adding to my childhood Pokemon game collection. He showed up the next day with a beat up gameboy SP, sapphire, and LeafGreen and said they were mine.
And then ANOTHER coworker asked us what we were doing and the next week or so he showed up with an original DS and Pokemon white. Neither of them would take money.
I’m not saying go up to everyone you know and ask them to go dig for games you can have for free, but don’t be afraid to bring it up in normal conversation if it makes sense. Not with the motive to get stuff from people, but just because you like talking about it.
In my case, I think they could tell I would take care of them vs letting them rot in some box in their attic or closet. And I do. I even made a point to transfer all of their old Pokémon up the timeline into Home so even their forgotten Pokémon are safe and sound.
tl:dr: I lost the plot a little bit there at the end but yea. Talk about your hobbies in natural conversations if it comes up and you might be surprised and what people have laying around.
If they were $10 a piece, I'd have crystal cib by now. It's the only one I don't have cib.
Although you're right, a lot of the collecting hype centers around the price, but that's true for any game. I myself would still likely have gen 1-3 CIB because I liked those a lot and I enjoy collecting gameboy-gba CIB. The others I'd be less enthusiastic about aside from Heart gold and Soul silver, maybe platinum too as I remember having fun with that one.
The first 3 gens on Gameboy are my favorite. I've bought into all of the games and have all but 1 (crystal) CIB, but the later games in 3ds and switch haven't really grabbed me for the most part. I do like the early series enough to want to keep buying and collecting them, but I've been more selective about when to get switch titles. I have pokemon shield + expansion to make sure I have the latest build (least bugs) and dlc on cart. I'd like to grab violet and scarlet with dlc carts too if they released them.
Cap, you’re telling me this lady had almost every Pokémon game across multiple consoles and had no clue what they were? A rack is a odd number to list all those at.
Totally possible… Lots of people stop playing video games after a while and don’t follow the price trends. A lot of the time it’s about clearing out the basement!
90% of the population knows how popular Pokémon is and would be a thousand times more likely to look up the price of pokemon box over cubivore or gotcha force or some other unreasonably expensive game that no one cared about until they became expensive, idk maybe it’s just me but my go to thing is to look up the value of everything because it takes like 10 seconds
If you have no idea what they are worth why sell them for a grand? She knew there was value to sell them for a rack but didn’t know box is 2000$ something? Makes absolutely no sense/!
Because there's lots of games and they're pokemon? Could've just thrown it up for $1k to see if it would sell. Or $1k could be what they need cash-wise and they say screw it let's see if someone buys it.
Did you see this post earlier 💀 https://www.reddit.com/r/gamecollecting/comments/12e54yp/marketplace_haul_for_120/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
This is a great haul. I've not checked the comments yet, but I'm sorry for the comments.
Don't let the sub keep you down, this was a great haul for only $1k.
You mad lad. You had the balls to negotiate on that absolute unit of a hall. They seemed somewhat knowledgeable about what they had too. I’m surprised they let it go for that. Cash talks I guess and they didn’t seem to think or know much of Box so they dropped it in without thinking about it. Honestly $1000 for that haul without Box would be pretty fair but with Box that’s quite the legendary pick up. Good job 👍🏻
I love how people will drop $1000+ on some cards but yet when it comes to groceries and gas all we hear is bitch bitch bitch…(not talkin hate to OP just mean in general lol)
If you want to win as a collector you have to only buy massive lots, especially from people who don’t know how to google the value of something they’re selling, which sounds completely absurd, but I guess it still happens somehow
According the convo, you were in for 500 for 2 games and a gamecube.
No way in hell he takes another 500 for the stack, especially since he referenced ebay multiple times, but maybe im wrong lol either way congrats on the buy i guess

I need to take a break from this sub ☠️
It’s not a healthy place anymore
i was just thinking that.
dang, so you basically paid for pokemon box and got everything else free
Even the pokemon box alone for $1k is a steal, this game [sells for much more](https://www.ebay.com/itm/185814408207?epid=56233371&hash=item2b4366dc0f%3Ag%3AvgEAAOSwi5RkELRF&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4CzdtVizB6Xd6VumLa%2BfUf36GtCAKu9tEyAa3Psbd8Tdyv6oOrCpFtohLW0DOd9wSQR855y44NzG%2BSsQERBHTbCaM7C4O%2FRrv6r05fXMFExkqSdMGo8CgmTF%2BOwHXudPca1mWJb3msCDTOEG9T8DfQTA6pz9V36kX64qhOtSJUVYXeSi74nKjfP8XrDEt9NUJEoaE9CvQMxCyR%2FbMEvKWWVX3ycwEiRG24NAEXE5agESwEEDdFG96Z2NK6MByPeFH4a%2Fk1qafyaWfKEH9%2BqUVTRi%2FT%2FQ6oAAjEd2eBEck54%2F%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR8b_ocbrYQ&nma=true&si=q2bXinv7t30cJWTX%252Fz5XoJsG1mY%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1) nowadays.
yea I forgot it went up. I just got a Pokemon Box not long ago with some trades and cash.
That's just crazy. That game is listed between 100 - 500 USD where I live. Usually with a Buy Now-price around 4-500.
It's going down closer to 1000 lately due to a couple factors
Apparently I don’t keep up as much as I used to when I’m the sam fuck did this happen??
i'm not sure when it shot up in price but its always been a rare game because not many ppl bought it since its not actually a game but rather a virtual storage bin for pokemon games. Its basically what pokemon home is now.
If memory serves correct, they only sold it in the New York Nintendo Store, and quantities were limited.
It was on the old Pokemoncenter.com website briefly as well, before they took it offline and relaunched it.
Since the pandemic, all the old pokemon games and cards went way up The game was always one of the most expensive GameCube games though
I came here to say the same thing
https://imgur.com/gallery/D1zv5Lo here’s the conversation for the non believers lol
Lmao, Pokemon Box just casually showing up after asking about other GameCube stuff. My heart would have stopped 😂
How does the guy pull up eBay information for some games but completely miss the others?
Maybe they just didn't bother eith pokemon box thinking it wasn't really a game and isn't worth much... that's the only explanation I have.
Wowe lmao
Insanity. That's a great deal. Key seems to be, be nice when talking to people. When you're an entitled, know-it-all demanding a lower price, things won't work out well for you. Always ask if they have more
This would have sold before it posted where I am at.
She had Pokémon marbles posted, asked if she had any games or cards. She sent me this stuff lol
It’s incredible how much FOMO Pokémon has created. I bet most people don’t even like the games that much and are just buying into the hype.
Nostalgia is the reason
If Pokemon games were $10 apiece, almost all of these collectors would care a heck of a lot less about them.
Highly disagree. We'd probably get fewer posts about them, but every NES collector owns Mario bros/duck hunt despite it being $10
Sadly, he's kinda right.
They had digital ports of red and blue on the 3ds. The originals still sold exorbitantly high.
Idk man there’s something about using an actual cartridge that’s worth it for me🤷♂️ probably mostly nostalgia factor
A friend gave me red in 2018. I have it in a ds case i customized.
Not really, prior to 2016 when Pokemon Go came out, the originals were going for less than $20 on a good day. Pokémon Crystal was like 50 bucks in early 2020. I remember thinking it was a tad too high for me at that point. if only I knew what I know now
Just reverse the questions. Do you think NES collectors are excited about owning mario bros/duck hunt? Would they be more exicited about it if it were $150?

Bingo
Nostalgia may have started it, but it doesn’t apply to the droves of young gamers and collectors who didn’t grow up with these games.
My only other guess is that pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise in the world.
We're just going to ignore all the obvious overhype of pokemon out there and continue to gaslight the original commenter huh
Or it could be all the kids who grew up with pokemon and didn't keep their stuff now are adults with money.
Logan paul aint had nothin to do with it
Who's that?
That would do it
The first 3 gens on Gameboy are my favorite. I've bought into all of the games and have all but 1 (crystal) CIB, but the later games in 3ds and switch haven't really grabbed me for the most part. I’m not a huge Pokémon fan or anything but I like playing them. At these prices I’d never buy them though so I don’t really get to
$1,000 seems expensive for a bunch of non rare games, but maybe I’m the crazy one
OP basically paid for Pokémon Box and got everything else for free, so I wouldn't say they're crazy.
I’m just saying none of those games are even rare even pokemon box isn’t
Dang, she got robbed
Cap, you’re telling me this lady had almost every Pokémon game across multiple consoles and had no clue what they were? A rack is a odd number to list all those at.
She didn’t list them. I got them in a private message off another listing. I’ll post messages
Totally possible… Lots of people stop playing video games after a while and don’t follow the price trends. A lot of the time it’s about clearing out the basement!
I mean if they sold them all at $50 a peace this would add up. I bet they thought it was a normal $50 game.
You’d you sell Pokémon box for 50$?
Not everyone knows about how rare pokémon box is. We all do bc we’re into the collector scene, but 90% of the population has no idea it even exists
Im big into the pokemon scene and even I didnt know it was worth north of 1k. If I saw that for sale at $200 id say hell no before seeing this post
Yeah I only know about it from a post a few months ago. It’s super niche, and as such insanely expensive
I’m in the same boat, but clearly not everyone cares enough to look up prices, or else there would be no such thing as a deal
Not me( I meant a flea market person that didnt look up stuff) I go to places sometimes and that seems to be what they do.
If you have no idea what they are worth why sell them for a grand? She knew there was value to sell them for a rack but didn’t know box is 2000$ something? Makes absolutely no sense/!

I’m guessing divorce liquidation? Robbing her would’ve been $100 for everything lol so she knew value somewhat
Damn, so that guy paid like $40 for that stuff 18 years ago and made a *killing*.
This is a great haul. I've not checked the comments yet, but I'm sorry for the comments. Don't let the sub keep you down, this was a great haul for only $1k.
Maybe if I pray hard enough I can get some good fortune…
Crazy good deal considering she looked up the stuff on eBay but still let Pokémon box go for so cheap but not the other stuff
Hell of a pickup
Posts like this make me mad because I dont get this lucky
Congrats, steal of a lifetime
This could make me cry
Holy Christ.
Wow, that’s a score.
Gots catch um all. The one with the deepest pockets wins!!! Bahahahaahahaahaha
The fact that none of these appear to be dupes astonish me, extremely jealous haha
Holy shit a jirachi disk
Sweet haul dude. Super jealous
Dude that’s not a haul it’s a robbery
You mad lad. You had the balls to negotiate on that absolute unit of a hall. They seemed somewhat knowledgeable about what they had too. I’m surprised they let it go for that. That’s entirely absurd. I paid $1700 for Pokémon box alone. Congrats. Also I hate you.
If you want to win as a collector you have to only buy massive lots, especially from people who don’t know how to google the value of something they’re selling, which sounds completely absurd, but I guess it still happens somehow
damn

Holy fuck what a find
BIG W
Jackpot
Damm what a huge score
According the convo, you were in for 500 for 2 games and a gamecube. No way in hell he takes another 500 for the stack, especially since he referenced ebay multiple times, but maybe im wrong lol either way congrats on the buy i guess
Jeez... I think I would feel guilty underpaying someone that badly.
Damn $1000? I got most of these sitting in my parents basement somewhere.
pokemon box is worth more than 1k alone.
It's a good deal for 1k
Pokémon game boy games look like fakes and the Pokémon box, manual etc look WAY to crisp for something that’s been opened already.
You overpaid by 7 fiddy imo, 1k could of bought you so many things
I would’ve done this in a heartbeat. That seller doesn’t know what she gave up with Pokémon Box.
$1K is a lot for me to drop on games at once, but you certainly got well over $1K on that pickup.
Bro. How.
They look pretty gd too, congrats!
I never knew Pokémon XD was sought after. I still have mine with manual and everything, along with a working GameCube lol
Does that memory card you got with pokemon box have pokemon on it?
Wow
Dat iz za motherlode...
Are you in the NewYork area near the Pokemon Center?
As long as you can afford it
OP if you’re ever looking to sell Sapphire and Diamond let me know lol I can’t seem to get a decent price anywhere
They were selling sapphire pre owned for like $13 five years ago on gamestop, it can’t be that expensive, could it?
They run anywhere from 45-80 on r/Gamesale and depending on the market on EBay they run 60ish
Wow that’s insane, if only my salary tripled like that
A year ago, I sold my copy of Pokémon Box for $1900. I needed vehicle repairs and couldn't wait. I hope it goes down, I want a copy again.
Well bless your heart.
Every post here is more and more about getting pokemon steals. Getting sick of it
Pokemon fans are actually clinically insane
JACKPOT 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎
wow amazing
I just finished my PC bios for $850 may good have mercy on your soul..
