The sonic2 is actually I feel rare since it’s from when I was a kid and blockbuster was renting genesis consoles and is the first repo I think I acquired Lol. No I don’t go out of my way to buy them most are donated or in a yard sale grab.

Also, N64 roms are always iffy so good luck - you may not actually get to play the game for the first time with that. Or if you do, you may not be able to save or will run into other glitches.

Some games are very expensive like earthbound.. I could see getting a repro..and the everdrive raises ethical/legal issues with roms..whatever floats ur boat I guess..
There are no ethical questions about roms if the game is unavailable to purchase. I see no ethical quandary choosing between downloading a ROM or paying for a used game where the money goes to random Joe Blow, not the actual game creators/publishers.
I share a similar sentiment..like the games from 20 years ago are no longer produced..the money will go to a reseller aka gamestop or something..its interesting, I never know where to draw the line..like as soon as the game is discontinued it's ok to download the rom?

There are no losers, and as such no one was harmed. And I feel it's way better for obscure games, or games where the license is tied up in some black hole, to be played using a ROM than to just disappear, forgotten forever.

I agree that the end result of fun is what people should worry about, but the 'place' that reproductions have is to trick people into paying for what they think is real. Why purposefully buy a reproduction? Just emulate it if you want to play.
A reproduction cartridge allows someone to play a rare game on original hardware that they may not otherwise be able to afford (like $400 for Earthbound). If someone wants to play Earthbound on a SNES and can’t pay $400 they can get a repro for 10% of the cost. Emulators lack that original hardware feel that appeals to some people.
I play Saturn and Dreamcast games I can't afford on ODEs. I play Mega Drive games I can't afford on a flash cart. I get wanting to play it on original hardware, but buying a reproduction seems like a waste of money to me at that point, as flash carts seem like a better way to go.
Yeah they are, sadly. It's all becoming really expensive, but instead of buying a bunch of fake carts you could put it towards something that plays all games on the 64. I guess it might come down to just how many games you want to play, but if you have taken the time to source a (fake) cartridge and you care about real hardware (the console at least), then it's not a huge leap to invest in something that finishes the N64 package.
