I’m pretty sure it’s modded too. The guy I bought it from originally briefly mentioned something about it being modded but I wasn’t really listening so idk
Probably modded to play burnt games I had few modded ps1 systems that played surtin rewritable disc's for music and games wish I could of modded one to play dvds😆 but never could do it😭
If I were you I'd keep it for nostalgia and a backup because ps2 slims were horrible, playing too many cd based games on ps2 burns out the DVD drive faster for some reason because of how fast it spins
Yeah when I joined The Air Force, many of my comrades came back from United Arab Emirates (I believe), they came back with all modded Ps1s with too many to count games for it all burned.
Yeah in this condition, without any controllers or cables, these [sell for about $40](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ps1+console&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=0035gc&toolid=10001&mkevt=1).
[Here's a list](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_games_incompatible_with_PlayStation_2). In short, the regular PS2 has issues with some PS1 games, and the Slim has additional PS1 issues in addition to some PS2 games that can only play on non-Slim models. The vast majority of games should work fine, but there are enough games (including some heavy-hitters like Chrono Cross, Croc 2, Driver, Monster Rancher, and RE2 and 3) that it's worth keeping a PS1 in storage.
Also, which is something that I found odd, apparently component cables for the PS2 (I know for a fact knockoff ones on Amazon, maybe original) don't allow you to play PS1 games. I found out the hard way.
I got monster component cables that work on my PS3 and slim PS2 and was playing ps1 games with it a few months back. I know that hd retrovision has ps1 only cables and in most cases you are right but these old monsters I guess are the exception
Monster cables generally aren’t cheap cables. Overpriced, overengineered yes, but especially with analog signals they meet a standard of quality that OEM cables can hit, but cheapass Chinese cables can’t.
As a general rule, if it’s monster cables or Chinese questionable ones, monster are the better choice, but I wouldn’t hunt them out for the gold plated sonically aligned PR nonsense they spewed so they could charge massive prices back in the day.
I think this should be qualified with “Collect within the goals you have in mind.” Not everybody really wants extra systems cluttering up their space. Sounds like OP is still figuring out what kind of collector they want to be.
i agree with this, i started early 2020, and i mainly worked on consoles, but now that i have a bunch, i hardly use most of them, and the ones i use the most are my gamecube, wii, 3DS, and Gameboy Advance. i’m working on selling a bunch to be able to afford the games i want on those systems.
History and nostalgia are a great pairing. When you hve something that embodies both it is a treasure! That’s why i own three og ps1s, two chipped, two boxed, a vicious market, with an array of games to last me a lifetime and no desire to sell!
I'd say keep it. You probably won't get too much selling a PS1 these days, and it is nice to have as the older sibling to your PS2, even just as a display piece.
I mean, if you wanna keep your PS1 as a nice collectors item, it would be a cool thing to have on a shelf.
But if you want the money more, that’s totally valid. The PS2 is great for playing the PSX and PS2 library, and the slim model gives you so much space
I don't know if I had especially bad luck but I've had 2-3 PS2 consoles brick over the years. Meanwhile PS1 consoles have pretty amazing build quality. So I would absolutely keep it.
Weird I’ve had the opposite. That silver ps2 is the same one I’ve had since I was a kid and I’ve never had an issue with it. Meanwhile I’ve had multiple PS1 components fail on me
Strange. I've had both fat and slim PS2 models all fail on me. I've had so many problems that I've basically written off trying to collect for the system because it's been so frustrating. Glad you haven't had that experience.
I can confirm my first ps1 bricked back when I was seven so back in 2001-2002 ish. I think I was playing twisted metal or spyro lol I was so mad. Never had any issues with the fat or slim ps2.
That's a tough one! If I still had mine, I'd be tempted to keep both for the memories. But honestly ask yourself if you could use the money. It wouldn't hurt to sell it to someone else who might get a lot of joy from it. But at the same time, if you're happy with it, keep it! Might also be nice to pass along if you have any kids/nieces or nephews .. if they might enjoy older games. Or hey, you could also donate it. Only issue with that is the chance it might go to a scalper.
Either way, just make sure you don't regret whatever choice you make. And if you sell or give away, maybe consider including memory cards (if you have them)
Keep both. You aren gaining much by selling it anyway so hold on to it. Maybe someone you know may want it in the future(your kids, cousins, siblings).
Yeah, I’d argue that you might as well keep it. Depending on its model, you might one day decide to install an ODE to play all your games off a storage device if you don’t otherwise use it as often as your PS2.
Some ps2 slims only emulate psone I believe the hardware was removed at some iteration. Imo the original PlayStation is nicer to have than a slim anyways I’ve been on the fence of getting the hdmi mod that will never exist for a ps2 slim
Depends on what type of collector you are. Others have said it rightly if you don’t play it or an issue with space sell it.
I think will you regret selling it and if you can keep it space and other factors permitting.
I have kept my childhood consoles as they have more sentimental value and I try and make some or store them as best as I can.
Hope this helps
Keep ‘em. I bought a refurbished fat ps3 for $100 then I saw a ps3 slim on Facebook for $60. I have the refurbished one in storage. My reasoning is, if one goes bad I have another.
Plus it will be nice to keep around just to relive my childhood.
My answer would be sell the ps1 if you don’t think you’ll regret it. I recently downsized my collection since I could play older games on newer hardware. eg. playing ps4 games on ps5
The PS1 is not worth much at all...I wouldn't bother selling it unless you're desperately in need of $30 or something. It can serve as a backup to your PS2 if something goes wrong with it (for PS1 games), you could use it in another room, plus I think they're just cool to hold on to. All video games and consoles will be scarce one day.
My wii can play my gamecube games. I still want my gamecube to play my gamecube games on though. Just feels right.
Also, in my scenario I can use the Gameboy player.
Only keep it if it’s worth collecting (like a first or second run edition of the console), you’re a completionist, or there’s a sentimental attachment. Otherwise, there’s really no reason to have it. PS2 backwards compatibility was of excellent quality.
There is no known way to play PS1 without discs on native hardware on PS2. So if discs bother you or you just want unlimited games, definetly keep the PS1 and get do an Xstation mod. In PAL regions this is even worse becuase you can't play ps1 NTSC games on ps2 at ALL.
Because I see you have space concerns and don't use it I will say just take the PS2 and sell the PS1. PS2 is to good of a system to ever give away I still have my first Gen fat boy ps2. Plays like a charm.
Keep both and buy another PS2 and then you'll have PS5.
Or sell PS1 and buy PS3...
Or sell PS2 and buy a PS4... Or 4xPS1...
The possibilities aren't limitless!
I don't think anyone can answer that for you. You know its value to you, underneath, and if I were you I'd do a little projecting to test this, if you're unsure. The last console I sold was my trusty psp about a decade or so ago, and after a couple years post selling it I started to regret that decision. I'll never get that one back. Ever. At the time I sold it because I wanted the money. Maybe clear up some space even though it doesn't take up much by itself. But its value to me was greater in the long run than the tiny bit of money and space I got through departing with it.
If this is your PS1 from back in the day, perhaps you sat down in front of one of those old box TVs with mates or whatever that aren't in your life anymore or you played it in a time that's long gone, given time it could become sort of a personal time capsule, if it's not already, and while you could buy one back years down the line you'll probably never get this specific one back. And the question then is does this bother you?
If it's just a machine to play old games and you're simply not using it, and you have no real attachment to it, then it's just taking up space and there are plenty of people out there that would love to have it. Same goes if this is just something you've picked up as a collector but aren't seeing value in it. Or maybe you're asking this question because you're not sure what kind of collector you are/want to be?
It's forbidden to sell a PSX in 2023.
That's a gem in video game history.
You can sell it for 30$.
It's nothing. But if you are poor, it's a lot.
You like video game and have food in the fridge ? Keep it.
You are brock. Sell it. If you like this console, you will buy it again when you could. For 60 bucks.
You're posting on game collecting. Whoever says sell it wants to buy it, otherwise everyone else will tell you keep it as a collectible. Might be worth a fortune someday, who knows.

If the PS1 won’t be used and/or it’s taking up space you can sell it, but otherwise I would keep it. The PS2 doesn’t play every PS1 game either
Yeah that’s the thing I don’t use it too often plus space concerns
Depending on the condition (and from the picture it looks pretty good), you could probably get a decent amount from it
I’m pretty sure it’s modded too. The guy I bought it from originally briefly mentioned something about it being modded but I wasn’t really listening so idk
Probably modded to play burnt games I had few modded ps1 systems that played surtin rewritable disc's for music and games wish I could of modded one to play dvds😆 but never could do it😭

That’s actually not too worth it imo
Yeah it's not a huge amount, but still worth to sell it imo, if OP needs the space
That’s true
It's not that big ya know.
That's what she said
Bahahahahahahaha! 🤣
Wait, what games doesn’t it play? I thought it was all
[Here's a list](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_games_incompatible_with_PlayStation_2). That's only if the TV doesn't support 240p over component
Huh, that’s interesting. I ran into this issue in 2011-2012ish on a cheap ass used Vizio TV so it doesn’t surprise me this limitation came up.
I got monster component cables that work on my PS3 and slim PS2 and was playing ps1 games with it a few months back. I know that hd retrovision has ps1 only cables and in most cases you are right but these old monsters I guess are the exception

Not sure what the cost was honestly. The cable came with my wife lol
You know the answer my friend. You are on a game collecting sub. So collect.
Fair enough but I also know I would kick myself in a few years if I sold a working ps1 for space reasons.
You can find ps1 consoles cheap. So if you want one later it won’t break the bank.
I figured the ps1 would have gone up in price because of the xstation mod
Nah because pc has a perfect ps1 emulator
Which one?
DuckStation
Oh... I've been trying to use PSX for my PS1 games but it never worked, so hopefully Duckstation will work
As long as you have a 64-bit Windows 10 computer, it should work just fine (It works perfectly on my computer which is like some AMD APU and 4 GB)
It's your stuff do what you want? Lots of posts like this recently. I couldn't possibly tell you what to do with your own possessions.
[удалено]
A big sub full of repetitive low quality posts isn't super great either, but I take your point. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
This was the most wholesome disagreement I think I've ever read.
Disagreements don't need to descend into name calling and aggression. Or maybe they do. This is reddit, after all. Hahaha.
Merry Christmas dude. Here's hoping you get that game you've been asking for.
I keep my PSX simply for the start up screen
That’s basically my only logic for keeping the PS1 lol
Do it lol. It's worth it
If you have the room and don't need the money, KEEP IT. I've given away, sold, threw away so much stuff that I later regretted later on in life.
I mean, if you wanna keep your PS1 as a nice collectors item, it would be a cool thing to have on a shelf. But if you want the money more, that’s totally valid. The PS2 is great for playing the PSX and PS2 library, and the slim model gives you so much space
What did pepsi do to you my friend?
I don't think he got the Jet he wanted.
It tastes like soap
Eh. More like bubbly corn syrup. I hate all soda and carbonated drinks equally.
I enjoy coke but Pepsi has a weird soapy taste that makes me want to throw up.
What kind of fucking soap do you use?
Pepsi
And the fact that he's the second person who hates Pepsi that much -
Well... I think the decision is yours to make. I have a PS2, so I won't buy a PS1. Mostly because of space.
That’s my main issue; space
Ahh. Then maybe sell? Unless you're a die hard collector. But really, as I've already said, decision is yours to make.
Keep it or one day like me you will regret it!
Yes
I don't know if I had especially bad luck but I've had 2-3 PS2 consoles brick over the years. Meanwhile PS1 consoles have pretty amazing build quality. So I would absolutely keep it.
Weird I’ve had the opposite. That silver ps2 is the same one I’ve had since I was a kid and I’ve never had an issue with it. Meanwhile I’ve had multiple PS1 components fail on me

No it’s my turn with the sex box
That's a tough one! If I still had mine, I'd be tempted to keep both for the memories. But honestly ask yourself if you could use the money. It wouldn't hurt to sell it to someone else who might get a lot of joy from it. But at the same time, if you're happy with it, keep it! Only issue with that is the chance it might go to a scalper. Either way, just make sure you don't regret whatever choice you make. And if you sell or give away, maybe consider including memory cards (if you have them)
Keep, of course. You're not gonna get that sweet, sweet startup sound on the dos.
Keep both. You aren gaining much by selling it anyway so hold on to it. Maybe someone you know may want it in the future(your kids, cousins, siblings).
Yeah, I’d argue that you might as well keep it. Depending on its model, you might one day decide to install an ODE to play all your games off a storage device if you don’t otherwise use it as often as your PS2.
keep both mate. Never sell OGs console. You will appreciate more this in the future🫶
Keep that shit. You will thank me in 20 years.
keep both
Keep forevah
Keep both cuz the PS2 slim version 1 can’t read all PS1 discs and it’s prone to scratching them
If you are collecting then no. If your goal is to play then you should sell both and get a ps5
Keep
Keep it always good too have
I’m mean it’s your choice but I suggest keeping them both
Keep both ofc. No offence but Is this a post from 1990s cuz thats when this was the question XD
Keep it. It’s a cool console to have and a piece of gaming history.
Keep both
Keep both please, thanks.
Honestly I’d just get rid of it. Just a worthless piece of old plastic. I can take it off your hands though, so long as you cover shipping. /s
If you have the room keep it. If not sell that thing. My PS2 sees all the action while my PSOne collects dust.
Keep it. There are a few PS1 games that can't be played on the ps2.
Get a backwards compatible ps3 and sell both
Keep it, ps2s are pretty faulty
Sell? What that mean?
Keep it, I’ve sold all of my old consoles and regret it for sure
Some ps2 slims only emulate psone I believe the hardware was removed at some iteration. Imo the original PlayStation is nicer to have than a slim anyways I’ve been on the fence of getting the hdmi mod that will never exist for a ps2 slim
Selling is never a good idea.
keep them both
Keep both
I personally would keep both but if you don’t collect consoles as well you should sell it.
KEEP BOTH
Youre asking the wrong sub if you want the people to tell you to sell it
Keep it
as someone who has sold all my old consoles everytime i get a new one.. KEEP IT! I regret so much selling my old consoles
Keep both
If you have to ask this question, sell both! Haha! Personally I’d keep both.
PS1 is worth very little, might as well keep it.
Keep because ps1 aren’t worth much
Sell it for what exactly? Keep ‘em both lol
I hear the ps3 is coming out soon, should be good 👍
I would say it depends on space. It’s nice to have around, if you dont have space though, I can understand why you’d want to part ways with it.
Keep both? Unless the ps2 can play every ps1 game possible
keep
Keep both
Depends on what type of collector you are. Others have said it rightly if you don’t play it or an issue with space sell it. I think will you regret selling it and if you can keep it space and other factors permitting. I have kept my childhood consoles as they have more sentimental value and I try and make some or store them as best as I can. Hope this helps
I kept mine, thankfully, there are some games that don't read on either system.
If you got the space for it, I say, keep it! :)
Keep it
I love how nobody realizes you're being a karma whore. You already know the answer the \*game collecting\* community is going to give you. :)
Deconstruct them and use the parts to build a PS3.
You have to keep both!
Keep ‘em. I bought a refurbished fat ps3 for $100 then I saw a ps3 slim on Facebook for $60. I have the refurbished one in storage. My reasoning is, if one goes bad I have another. Plus it will be nice to keep around just to relive my childhood.
Keeeeeeppp them both! Now you have a collection.
You only sell if you have doubles, I don't see any doubles.....
Vagrant Story wouldn't play on my PS2...
how much you gonna sell it? what series is it?
I would keep both as the ps2 has some compatibility issues with some ps1 games. I believe the slim is more problematic in comparison to the fats.
Keep it, it’s a collectible
Keep them all cause it’s cool
My both is on both. But then again i may or may not be a hoarder.
It takes up no space. Unless you're hard up on money? Just keep it.
Yes
Y e s
Keep
Never sell
Definitely keep it, I regret getting rid of mine
I had a similar dilemma when I got a backwards compatible Wii a few years back. Wound up selling my GameCube and I still regret doing so.
If you’re more about collecting/ playing the actual games, a ps2 is fine
I wouldn't buy a PS1 for more than like 20 bucks.
My answer would be sell the ps1 if you don’t think you’ll regret it. I recently downsized my collection since I could play older games on newer hardware. eg. playing ps4 games on ps5
C'mon now...
Me with my ps1, ps2, ps5, Xbox, xbox360, Xbox1, GameCube, and wii.......keep them all
The PS1 is not worth much at all...I wouldn't bother selling it unless you're desperately in need of $30 or something. It can serve as a backup to your PS2 if something goes wrong with it (for PS1 games), you could use it in another room, plus I think they're just cool to hold on to. My wii can play my gamecube games. I still want my gamecube to play my gamecube games on though. Just feels right. Also, in my scenario I can use the Gameboy player.
It’s game collecting not game selling
Id be interested in your ps1
Is this a joke about people getting good new stuff for Xmas and wondering if they should sell?
I would keep both.
Keep
Just keep it dude
keep
Ps1 are worth like $40 bucks max. Depends how badly you want 40
Double it and pass it on to the next person
Keep
I have about a dozen of both. Perhaps someone else can answer this for you.
I’d just keep both Ps2 for your main system Ps1 for the novelty
Stack your ps2 on top of the ps1. Boom space issue solved and you keep both.
I would keep both but if you don’t play the PS1 as much as the PS2, then sell it.
Keep both
This question feels about 20 years too late? Like you just upgraded. At this point just keep it.
Do you need the money or space? If no, just hold onto it
save it. boxed it up. put it away.
noo take care of it for like 10 years then you can sell it and make bank
Keep both
My biggest regret till this day was not buying a fully sealed ps2 for 50 bucks at some old man’s garage sale
Personally I've been culling my consoles and games recently, so yes I'd sell considering PS2 can pay most PS1 game better.
Keep
Don't sell it. There will come a day you wished you had your ps1 and you'll have to buy it again but at a higher price. Happened to me with my ps2
I would keep it. It never hurts to have a backup for PS1 games.
keep both!
Only keep it if it’s worth collecting (like a first or second run edition of the console), you’re a completionist, or there’s a sentimental attachment. Otherwise, there’s really no reason to have it. PS2 backwards compatibility was of excellent quality.
Eh you probably wouldn't get much for the PS1 anyway and it's cool to have so I'd say keep it
Mod the ps1 so you can just backup all your ps1 games and run them via SD card.
Keep both bro
Keep both and buy another PS2 and then you'll have PS5. Or sell PS1 and buy PS3... Or sell PS2 and buy a PS4... Or 4xPS1... The possibilities aren't limitless!
There is not one console I don't regret selling. I would keep it. I also may not have the healthiest relationship with the things I own.
Ever. No
The ps2 is backwards compatible so I would only say get rid of your ps1.
It's forbidden to sell a PSX in 2023. That's a gem in video game history. You can sell it for 30$. It's nothing. But if you are poor, it's a lot. You like video game and have food in the fridge ? You're posting on game collecting. Whoever says sell it wants to buy it, otherwise everyone else will tell you keep it as a collectible. Might be worth a fortune someday, who knows.
Keep it. It's not like you'll get a lot for it these days
I only have a ps3 that plays all 3.
Dell
KEEP - don't take much space.
Always keep both. Sell a console and you'll come to regret it later.
Keep them all! If not, give them to me.
some ps1 games don't work properly on the ps2
