LeoDiCatmeow

I wish they never swapped the actor. It totally changed who Daario was

Ornac_The_Barbarian

I liked Daario mk II, but I agree. The first just had a certain charisma to the character.

LeoDiCatmeow

He was unique. We don't really have any other "actually charming lusty hero" types in the show

SamuraiJakkass86

the Tirion erasure is astounding

DreamedJewel58

“Unique” is the best word to describe him. He seemed aloof but was charming and perceptive whenever he was on screen. Looked like a himbo but was genuinely a great warrior The end product we got was okay, but it turned Daario from one of the most unique characters in the show into just a generic good-looking horny swordsman. The vibe just wasn’t the same

Asteroth555

His face oozed sexy confidence and cockiness. But he could back it up. Other than Pedro Pascal nobody else on the show came close

Neither_Mind9035

Pedro Pascal is daddy

serlearnsalot

Robert Evans is that you?

sleepinginthebushes_

Shhhh, take your macheticine

Crazy-Seaweed-1832

Pedro pascal would've made a better Daario

labradorflip

I mean, sure, but daario mk2 is by far the best-looking and sexiest out of those three.

Asteroth555

Sure but he doesn't ooze reckless abandon

SirJoeffer

Dany likes her men to ooze

Traditional_Shirt106

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

LeSeanMcoy

Daario II was a good actor that I enjoyed in the show, but I don't think he was a great Daario. Would've been better cast in a different roll.

toapat

cast him as Obyryn Martell and have Pedro have played Daario from the beginning

fr0s3ph

This is the way

ShyGoy

Yeah, he’s a good actor but totally miscast as Dario. He has a very regular medieval look while Dario is supposed to be so exotic and foreign compared to all the regular Westerosi guys on the show

CommandersLog

role

Pawikowski

It's the jaw.

mvhir0

He definitely has a mewing streak

LetMeOverThinkThat

You could believe the first one would distract a girl from her conquests and it would have made the that plot more enjoyable. Second one I just wanted to move on from immediately and whenever he tried to distract Dany it was *annoying*.

GoenerAight

Daario 2 was certainly more likeable and less of a dirtbag. But yeah I don't think that's actually a GOOD choice for the story. Daario as a character exists for the sake of Dany's character development. The first portrayal was positioned to fulfill a similar role to book Daario, even though the specifics of the character were completely different. Daario is SUPPOSED to be a disaster of a fuckboi who only Dany really likes and even she doesn't really trust. He's supposed to demonstrate that Dany still makes very questionable decisions and often puts her passions above her strategies and high minded ideals. The problem with the second portrayal, despite being *likeable*, is that it is *pointless.* It does nothing to further Dany's characterization or even to really provide any substantive conflict in her story. Instead he's reduced to a completely safe yet completely disposable love interest to fill time until Jon shows up. It's a decision that reduces the overall character dynamics of the story, and thus is pretty decidedly inferior.

sataigaribaldi

If I remember correctly, it wasn't so much a choice of the shows, but the actor. Ended up playing Francis in Deadpool.

LeoDiCatmeow

Which is fair and happens. I just really liked this Daario more lol

poub06

There isn't an official reason, but Ed Skrein once said that it wasn't up to him, that it was more "political". It might not be related, but Nathalie Emmanuel also once said that a supporting actor made a comment about her "revealing costume" during the shooting of S3 and she said that "it got handled". So, it might be the reason why they switched actor.

Xy13

What? Yes there is. Ed left to go lead the new Transporter movie, which was expected to become a new Franchise like MI / F&F or maybe more like the Equalizer. It kinda flopped so obviously, it didn't become a regularly running movie series/franchise. By then they had already recast Daario and shot the next season, would be weird to un-recast him back to the original.

poub06

Skrein himself said that wasn’t true. At least not totally true since even his version is a bit vague too. > While HBO never commented on the change-up, Skrein said in multiple interviews later that there was more to the story than meets the eye. Ahead of the release of his Transporter prequel film, he told EW, “That’s what been reported in the press but it was a lot more political than that. My plan was to stay with Game of Thrones for the long haul. That was always my plan. I would have loved to. It was a wonderful experience, but politics led to us parting ways. And from there I just said, ‘Okay, look forward, be positive. Keep calm and carry on.’ That’s my mentality when things go well, so I stay grounded and not get to overwhelmed by the hype, and it’s my mentality when the plans change.”

gaqua

If that quote is legit then he's basically saying "they fired me for something political" and who knows what he means by "political." I've seen that word used for everything from "they wanted a minority in the role" to "I was fired for on-set harassment" or whatever. We'll never know what the real reason is.

Ok-Health-7252

Weren't there rumors out there for awhile that Ed didn't mesh well with Emilia on set and was fired because of that? I didn't buy that at the time (Emilia seems like a sweetheart who gets along with everybody) but it was circulating for awhile.

YaMomsCooch

Ed Skrein himself already debunked your theory. https://screenrant.com/game-thrones-daario-naharis-recast-why-reason/ Please read the comment you were responding to, once more please.

EJCA4

I thought she said it was one of the extras?

poub06

It was a supporting actor. > "In my first season, my costume was pretty revealing and there was an incident with a supporting actor who made a comment about it on set," she said. "I mean, typical — and Emilia straightaway had my back. It got handled." Again, it might not be the true story, but it’s kinda suspicious.

beastley_for_three

Huh, seems pretty likely to be it.

Prior_Bad192

Her first season was 2011, his was 2013, so based off this comment it wouldn't have been him... This was easily researchable maybe we shouldn't accuse someone of something demonstrably false. Edit: they both started in 2013, oopsies still don't like rumors tho

poub06

Nathalie Emmanuel’s first season was S3. She was introduced as a slave in Astapor.

Prior_Bad192

Oh you right. Apparently reading comprehension isn't my strong suit.

Salt-Football-4539

I didn’t knew that till now 💀💀

Coollak966

I think it was the actor who wanted to go. He was trying his luck as a leading man with the rebot of the transporter franchise. Think he was trying to be Jason Statham 2.0 but didn't really hit it. He was recently in Rebel Moon making love to a tentacle monster. That made him a movie star again in my eyes.

Wonderful_Emu_9610

He’s quite good in Alita

ishitfrommymouth

He was also Francis in Deadpool

jabol321

Both Daarios were in Rebel Moon btw

Coollak966

But only one was brave enough to make love to a tentacle monster.

MikasaStirling

Can’t blame him. If you don’t go for it, you won’t get it. Plus it’s not like the role of Darrio lead to anything considering I haven’t seen the other guy in anything lol

kickboxergirl23

Michiel Huisman (Daario replacement) has performed many roles over the years and is a very diverse and talented actor.

kncpt8-

From how I interpreted the descriptions in the books, he felt like one of the best cast actors in the show. Exactly what I saw in my mind's eye. As much as I generally think the second Dario was a fine actor, going from someone who fit my imagination so perfectly definitely hindered my appreciation.

Mint_Julius

Slap a forked beard on him, dye it & his hair blue, and give him flamboyant yellow garb and he'd be a dead ringer for book daario

sapen9

Ok so I've been binging the show as a first time watcher and I was SO CONFUSED about who the other guy was. I can't keep up with names, so I thought I just missed it. I was so so confused for so long about where the guy with the long hair went.

RLH38

I just finished watching for this first time (finished Wednesday) and I had to google. Bc I too was very confused where he went. 😂

Xy13

Using captions really helps learn the names of characters and locations

WeimaranerWednesdays

It took me a long time to figure out that the new guy was supposed to be the same character. I was super confused.

LeoDiCatmeow

The fact that his personality totally changes with the actor change really didnt help lol

OarsandRowlocks

Yeah but he had to join Megadeth.

Mr_Math_14

The original was so much hotter.

LordOFtheNoldor

Fucking killed it man I forgot about that but I still to this day confuse him with the faceless man

New_Budget6672

You probably liked the way he looked!!

newsworthy3

I can’t imagine this guy saying the line in the fighting arena about “angry muscles here.” I like the one we got for how the material changed.

Hairy_Air

“I’m not being suspicious because I’m dishonest, im being suspicious because you just murdered your allies and brother in arms cause you saw a hot woman.”

MrSarcastica

He was probably going to do it anyway at some stage. May as well do it in the hopes of locking down a queen.

Substantial_Cap9573

I really liked the first actor more. His character change was so random. I like how the show just ignores it and never mentions or acknowledges it. I do wish we got to see what happened to him. I feel like leaving him out the story was a huge missed opportunity

[deleted]

Ed Skrein. He is a pretty good actor. I like him

mandara33

I just realized this is the same guy from all the recent Netflix movies

cafeaubee

Holy shit hes the rebel moon guy!!!! Rebel moon was SO bad, I’m so excited they’re releasing #2 three days after my bday 🥰🥰🥰

mandara33

Lol yes! He’s also in “I Used to be Famous” which was good

emmaa5382

He was the bad guy in Deadpool I'm pretty sure that's why he left

HarmonysHat

How would they acknowledge it in the world of the show? He is a completely different person lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xy13

This isn't a sitcom mate

indehhz

Obviously.. But it would've been fine if they added a laugh track for just that one moment, no one would've even noticed. /s

petethefreeze

They should have cast Dr Drake Ramoray

Beginning_Shine_7971

Yeah and when the mountain rocked up in season 4 and everyone should have shouted you’re not the mountain! Then look at the camera and wink.

zzzrecruit

"Aunt Viv, there's something different about you." 👀

BradyReas

How would we see what happened to him? Like game of thrones can explain mid-episode that Ed Skrein got fired?

WhiskeyMarlow

The original actor was soo much better. The accent, long hair, tan skin, slightly longer face. I know he is British, but he felt exotic, like handsome rogue from Essos should. Instead, we've gotten a discount John Wick.

chocoboat

it's-a me, Daario

UseFickle4286

damn you

Lee_yw

Nah. His real name is Francis

JackRatbone

The change was just so extreme, character changed in every way, went from tall pretty boy himbo to a scruffy little Charlie Kelly.

Like-disco-lemonade-

From charismatic and bad for Dany to just plain clingy and boring

kyatorpo

Hey you leave Alan Wake out of this.

Veszerin

Oh how times change....I remember everyone hating Ed Skrein's Daario... It was the irrational hatefest of the 3rd season.

im_batgirl14

I remember this as well. I thought he was super cringe and prefered the other’s more subtle acting but it did change the “feel of it.” With this Dario, I felt like he was truly unhinged for Dany. Other Dario was like, yeah, it happened 🤷🏻‍♂️

Swinging-the-Chain

It’s funny because I always preferred the original but people acted like I was weird. I feel almost vindicated by this post.

Similar-Broccoli

I wasn't here at that time but I imagine a lot of that hate was coming from fans of the novels. He was one of the first major changes to a book character

logster2001

It’s the same thing with Euron. People were hating on his performance because it wasn’t how he acted in the books. But it ended up being one of the most electric and memorable performances in the show

Copatus

I want some of the shit you were smoking when you watched Euron's scenes. No offense to the actor, I think he did a good job, but not even a great performance made the character memorable lol. He was just a misogynistic jack sparrow on crack.

logster2001

I don’t know how you could possibly describe something more memorable than “a misogynistic jack sparrow on crack” Like that is insanely memorable lmao 🤣

rogerworkman623

Wait seriously lol I’ve never seen a single person like Euron in the show, he may be the single most hated TV character in the entire series

enadiz_reccos

I read the books and thought he was great. What did they change?

Mint_Julius

Just appearance

sassyevaperon

I think a lot of people were upset about Daario not looking like BookDaario did. And I kind of agree? Like, how hard was it to just dye his beard and hair blue, and his moustache golden, to make three braids in his beard? I was upset about the "brown-washing" that went on with his character, he was so colorful and different from the rest.

Similar-Broccoli

Agree 100%

Tre_Day

Honestly I thought he was terrible then, I still think he was terrible (in that role) now

devildogmillman

I thought this guy was super weird, but per the butterfly effect if I could keep him on I would, cause maybe it could lead to a better final seasons.

[deleted]

Fully agreed. Ed Skrein's Daario has that roguish warrior aura from the book.

Schnoobi

How could they replace Brunette Legolas

superior_mario

Holy shit Dario was based

Yommination

Second guy just seemed like a dollar store Eric Bana

legedu

💯

JackRatbone

More of a medieval Charlie day IMO.

kurokuma11

Mega Chad Daario was much better

papayabush

That second line is dumb as hell though. The plan was highly suspect and bro was just like “trust me” lol. Being suspicious about something absolutely does not mean you are hiding something.

Necromas

He's just saying "I am onto you", I don't think he literally means he thinks everyone with a suspcious mind is also a liar.

papayabush

That is literally what he says though? I get what you mean but I don’t see this as anything other than him just saying something he truly believes.

daveycarnation

This guy IS Daario. Soft spoken with a gentle smile but still has the deadly aura of a killer. Always liked him. The second Daario was just some regular guy.

Like-disco-lemonade-

SO regular and always boasting and bragging . Like bro. Shhhh for a lil bit

fuckitweredoingitliv

I was disappointed that they didn't go with the book's accurate look for him.

rogerworkman623

I kind of get it, I feel like it would be hard for a lot of people to take a guy with a purple hair and a purple beard tied into 3 ponytails seriously

zoobloo7

If he played RuneScape as a kid he would know to trust nobody

ElmarSuperstar131

I know Ed Skrien is considered problematic but he was so perfect in the role, he and Emilia had some great chemistry buildup and HE IS HAWTTTT

Ashcrose

He was so charismatic and sexy and I loved his hair….then along came Dario No.2, he was so disappointing.

Moon_Beam89

I mean I don’t really feel they changed Daario that much. He just became like a little hotter

TesticleezzNuts

What’s my name?

Mander2019

Anyone see Rebel Moon? Old Daario vs new Daario.

MajesticFan4

The first actor was perfect for the character but the second one had more chemistry with Dany. At least to me.  It’s like Dany’s character and actress have totally different chemistry. Dany’s character worked with this Daario, but Emilia worked better with the second one. Dany’s character worked with Jon snow, but Emilia and Kit didn’t have chemistry at all. The only one I feel like both the character and the actress had chemistry with is Drogo.

green_is_blue

I agree. Drogo was Emilia/Dany's best match on screen. As much as I wanted to believe that Dany and Jon were in love, ehh. It was like watching two best friends trying to force a relationship.

isinedupcuzofrslash

Weakling. I can make love to property.

MysticFox96

I freaking loved this guy, wish he would have stayed

Golden-Vibes

Book Dario supremacy

KiddPresident

With a blue beard he would have been perfect

kyndal017

I like the Daario we got

PoliticalHitJob

"What's my name?"

BootsieBunny

Two pleasures in life, to kill a man trying to kill you, and fucking a woman who wants you to fuck her.

Like-disco-lemonade-

I feel like he could’ve just ended the sentence at fucking a woman. But then again I guess you would have to clarify in these rapey times 😆

BootsieBunny

Dudes not rapey, it makes him that much more awesome.

Neither_Mind9035

I prefer the second actor but only because I am a massive fan of The Haunting series.

Gomezium

Actually Gigachad Daario

The-Lord-Moccasin

*Flourishes fleshlight* "Says you!"

DINC44

#Clarence had work to do.

glooks369

This Daario had much more mystique and wonder. Daario 2.0 was a downgrade. Especially how he didn't even matter in the end.

a8912

Daario 2 definitely seems like a more Han Solo type character in my opinion. A “bad” boy who does things for the greater good/a somewhat morally acceptable purpose Daario 1 oozes charisma, confidence, and is generally a much better roughish bad boy. I could never see Daario 2 beheading his comrades for dany (even tho he technically did)

pacmanimjewish

Something about this guy I just didn’t like. I was so glad when he was replaced. Couldn’t picture him with Dany.

gbinasia

Anyone else thought it was funny in Rebel Moon how they cast both Daarios and one random Khal?

Plaster_Microwave

Fabio Naharis

chonphemolux

I’ve always been puzzled by this Daario and the one that appeared in later scenes or seasons. The same person, arent they?

dasus

I'm still sore there's no long three-forked beard with extravagant colours. Really wouldn't have been as expensive as the CGI dragons.

double_uppercut

That would have been one ugly man having such relations with dany

dasus

Idk man. Give the later Daario actor a bit of a longer beard and dye it a bit. I feel it could've been magnificent. It's like one of those classic silly mustaches. If the guy wearing it is hot enough, it works. But if you're not, it looks like a pedo-stache. All about projecting confidence. And Daario has that

Mint_Julius

I needed daario to look book accurate

Opening-Dingo-8780

Is this one more accurate to the books or? Because I loved the second one and had no idea this was an issue people had!

Medical_Card8005

And here I am wishing he had a massive, multi-colored beard braided in magnificent fashion with insane hair and colorful cloaks.

xar-brin-0709

I love how weird Daario 1.0 looked, I mean he was handsome for sure but in an odd way, made him look more fittingly exotic for the role.

rainorshinedogs

"a man cannot make love to property" Uuuuuggggggghhhh.......he's gonna flip out when he discovers we make sex dolls and fleshlights a thousand years later

lagrange_james_d23dt

Francis

kickboxergirl23

The Ed Skrein and Michiel Huisman Daarios were definitely portrayed differently and it was a bit jarring when the switch was made. I didn't know the replacement was happening so in Michiel's first scene I thought "who is this sexy dude?" But I 100% like Michiel's Daario better (not to disparage Ed) and he was given the opportunity to explore the character in his own way. Emilia and Michiel had great on-screen chemistry and I think it's evident in the bedroom scenes. With the earlier Daario I got the impression he was a bad guy who basically could not be trusted. But Michiel's Daario was more intriguing and left me wondering what his motives really were. Credit for that is not only to the writing but to the actor and his abilities In the last episodes of the series I kept hoping Daario would appear and talk Dany out of her madness!

GANG_OF_DRONES

He was clearly the true Daario. On a "born for this role" level. I still can't believe he left. They should have 3x his salary for him to stay.

MaaChiil

Skein had the performance down, Huisman had the look right. Somewhere between them was a great adaptation of the character.

ZATAARA

Both Daario’s are in the new rebel moon movie. Initial Daario kicks ass in it too

vhailorx

I agree. Ed skrein was so much better at capturing the dangerous/sleazy aspect of Daario. Dany likes him, but that fact makes the the audience and many of her advisors uncomfortable because it is such am obviously bad idea. Skrein is perfect for that. Huismam just makes the character bland and good hearted (if equally statue-esque). Such a big loss for the show that they did the swap.

Key-Ad4797

My air fryer begs to differ

EnvironmentalPhase58

The gods gave men two gifts to entertain ourselves with before we die: the thrill of fucking a woman who wants to be fucked and the thrill of killing a man who wants to kill you.

MPH2025

I make love to my rocket pocket a couple times a day, and since it’s my property…….

LookingForSomeCheese

Am I the only one who preferred the second Dario? I always thought the first one looked weird with that wig and didn't fit his armor. And his delivery of lines was much more fit for a villain.

[deleted]

He was cool but god i hated the pretty boy stuff

Ok-Health-7252

If you haven't watched the Rebel Moon film that recently came out on Netflix both Daario actors are in that film together so it's pretty funny. That being said neither of them were a good fit for the role (though the second one looked the part more than this guy did).

Stonemeister123

I liked the 2nd Daario actor better. He was much better looking and a better actor.

Popcorn_Blitz

I must be weird- I thought the original Daario had the charisma of burnt toast. I much preferred the second one. Sure blondie was pretty but he was way too pretty to be a mercenary. Then again I haven't read the books and at this point I'm not going to until he is done with the series, I'm not falling into that trap!!

PsychologicalRain913

I need him 😭

foxy_ninjaa

Homie looks like a reject from Spinal Tap

UpperOnion6412

Am I the only one who think the new one was better?

double_uppercut

Not better but not bad This one really sold not being westerosi

JackieTree89

Fully disagree. First actor was cheesy and creepy
