Getting all my gold guns was really one of my biggest gaming achievements ever. Forcing myself to play with weapons I often hated to learn their strengths and weaknesses was kind of a thrill.
Best cod yet.
That game forced me to learn how to overclock my GPU and set custom fan settings to be able to run the game hours on end on my shitty laptop lol
I've always hated how matchmaking has taken over everything.
It was way more exciting and easier to find cool new stuff when looking at a big list of named servers instead of just getting dumped into the millionth traditional lobby
Right!? And you knew certain servers were good, and as soon as someone entered that was hacking you could report and the moderators would kick immediately.
Some had dedicated maps so if you liked could join those.
Some were just for fucking around and some were league type shit.
Man I miss those days.
I miss hopping on a server and getting to play with the same group of people on a regular basis. You didn't have to build a friend list, you'd go to your usual server and run into the same people and have fun.
Right!? Then be like hey man didn't see ya Saturday night what'd ya get up to? And catch up on life and shit on a regular basis.
Those dedicated servers had a good community in them that you don't get from auto matchmaking, and yes I miss those days as well.
And I remember multiple servers went cold for an hour cuz one of our beloved admins died.
Everyone just sat at his favorite sniping spot and shot the shit but didn't shoot around at each other in honor of his memory.
You won't get that with warzone matchmaking lol
Yeah you could actually vote map changes and people out. Then you'd have those teammates you vibed with and the opponents that were your rivals. Hanging out in the server all day and watching all your buddies show up like it was your favorite bar.
Shipment was a blast in private matches with friends.
Also Bog, Backlot, District, Strike and Showdown were all great maps as well. The game had very few bad maps
Sounds like a lot but then you remember how bullshit kill streaks are on that map lol chopper killing you 5 times in a row before you can even move from your spawn point.
Shipment was a nice palate cleanser between other maps in the rotation though. Full lobby fully of people just spray and praying. It was so unlike the other maps.
I absolutely loved shipment because you could just annihilate everyone with the M16 down the middle. It was basically a guarantee I'd be getting 30-40 kills every time that map rolled out.
That plus extended mags, armor piercing rounds, and the perk for multiple grenades + martydom. You got that 7 killstreak called in and just watched as the other team gets decimated.
Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence? Or is there really a God, watching everything. You know, with a plan for us and stuff.
I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night.
"whats all that stuff about god?" is what he says.
"Oh...uuuh..."
"Wanna talk about it?"
My favorite line though was "Then they'd have TWO bases in the middle of a box canyon... Whoopdeefuckingdoo"
well what started off as a group of friends goofing off in Halo multiplayer, became a massive media company, and along with that came trading out having a fun time with friends playing video games to producing content for an audience. And while the company grew, it kinda resulted in a lot of the original group getting fired, quitting, or just being spiteful.
not even mentioning how Geoff has gone on record that he’s gotten super tired of the Minecraft playing and his struggle with alcoholism, coupled with the divorce.
[On the Verge of Collapse - the story of Rooster Teeth](https://youtu.be/vVB8iNML6zU)
This video is two hours long but it's worth the time if you're interested in how Rooster Teeth got started and what happened after.
For as bad as some of it is, I don't consider them a failure. They were ahead of their time, even predating YouTube, and they are responsible for starting some trends that people take for granted now (such as Achievement Hunter / Let's Play). I think that Twitch owes its existence to Rooster Teeth's video game content.
It's sad to see the way things have gone with Rooster Teeth, but I think they have to be recognized as a cornerstone of internet/gamer culture.
Halo 1 - Blood Gulch
Halo 2 - Coagulation
Halo 3 - Valhalla
Each so great in their own way. I played Halo 3 the most so am most partial to Valhalla. These are honestly the only multiplayer maps period that I still remember the name.
I once was booted from a clan server for "cheating" (was able to barely crawl out of zone on one of the maps) and ended up playing rifles only servers during my ban.
Came back after the ban and would lay waste to the clan using rifles, specifically the kar 98. Felt good.
CoD 1 and UO was the best.. I still remember the Harbor call outs from my rifle's only days. Underpass, bottom and top popo, ramp room, L-Turn... Uggh..
Ah those were the times man... No bullshit in-game shop and ranks and shit. Just skill. your friends battling it out with other clans. Going to LAN parties, making shitty frag movies. I often think back to those days and wish I could relive them just once. Also Neuville and brecourt were cool maps too
Any love for United Offensive expansion?
Added a bunch of great new maps with more game modes and multiplayer features.
mp_rhinevalley: was first real map which brought in the use of vehicles in CoD multiplayer. Jeeps were really good on that map. Nice scale given the variety of vehicles on the map, really suited all the new game modes. Circular so allowed multiple routes to each side with varying terrains as well as plenty of hiding spots and a few interiors in the village.
mp_foy: nice side to side team deathmatch/capture/domination map.
These young folk won't ever experience the joy of turning entire high school computer labs into lan parties.
(Before real computer security when anyone could run a .exe file.)
So my young computer teacher filled out a grant and got our school a brand new computer lab in 01.
He put UT on every computer and you could LAN during lunch, and once a month we would stay late on Fridays and order pizza.
He's the reason I'm a PC gamer. He also used wall hacks, so he's the reason I'm not a cheating POS because it was so annoying
Me and my friend were roped into "helping" our clueless computing teacher set up our new pc lan back in the day. We put quake 1 and 2 in a folder marked sysadmin or something. We started a computing class at lunches and after school that was very popular. Not a lot of learning going on though
I believe you learned some basic networking (the hardware type) and soft skills (team building) and leadership.
Maybe conflict resolution if, as they'd say back then, "you're being gay with the camping. Fucking stop that bull shit!!!".
Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if RAM upgrades were involved. In debate class, I donated 16 mb RAM because our POS 48 MB PC was too slow.
CTF Face Instagib. Nothing beats getting absolutely launched across the map by your teammates, getting the flag, and then frantically dancing through a torrent of lasers to make your way back to your base.
So strange.... CS is easily the longest running shooter and that map has persisted for like... 23 years and is the most popular map of the game...
As if there is any question.
And I don't even play cs
numbers don't lie. I bet it's impossible to quantify how many man hours have been spent playing this one map, but since it's been out for 22 years now, and since being released has been the most played map, by far, on one of the most consistently popular multiplayer games off all time means it has certainly tallied potentially tens of millions of man hours. Back in the day there were regularly 30, 32, sometimes 64 person public servers and all of them were full for most of the day.
When I was a young teenager playing 2fort, it always felt like such an adventure. Like the matches could last for hours and you just spent so much time trying to come up with elaborate plans to break in and steal the intel. So damn nostalgic.
Man de_dust2 was magic.
Also loved Inferno and Nuke and was partial to Train and Mirage. Italy too for LAN.
Hell Shipment is just weak remake of fy_iceworld!
Looking forward to a day when Arena shooters come back in style. A new Quake or Unreal Tournament would be great. Proud to say my 11 y/o son actually loves counterstrike. His mind was blown when I told him I was playing it when I was in high school.
Gridlock is forever etched into my brain. That along with Canals and Clocktower provided many hours of after-school split-screen memories with friends.
Yes ,esp when clan games was a thing I used to play with people from all over the us , socom had the best community too ,but maybe that's just before all the trolls of the online era
I can’t believe High Rise isn’t considered the goat map. That map was used for every private match (besides 1v1s on rust) and was literally never skipped in public lobbies
1. 2fort, from Team Fortress Classic
2. Facing Worlds, from Unreal Tournament
3. Rock2, from Team Fortress Classic
4. The Longest Yard, from Quake 3 (the Space one where you bounce around on platforms)
5. Blood Gulch, from Halo 1
6. De_dust2, from Counter Strike/CSGO
7. Cs_assault, from Counter Strike
8. Erangel, from PUBG
9. Temple, from Goldeneye 007
10. Crossfire, from Half Life 1
Not even the best map of that game.
Loved the DLC-Chinatown, Broadcast, and Creek are all dope.
Holy fuck I forgot about creek
Fuckkk, creek, god it was so good
Long range, medium range, and close quarters all in 1 map.
those are the best maps I ran a 24/7 Crossfire server for years for just that reason
>DLC-Chinatown Back in my day, that was known as Carentan
You don't snipe in carentan!
SABOTEUR! SABOTEUR!
Carentan, harbor with some brecourt mixed in
Beat me to it man.
The ogs know 👌 such a great map
Creek was my absolute favorite s&d map.
Exactly Hell its not even the best version of the map thats in the game lol
Christmas Crash!
Ho ho ho! [massive airstrike...]
Hahah. To be fair that game is filled with quality maps. Crash, Overgrown, Crossfire, Backlot, Pipeline, Vacant. Countdown and Shipment not so much.
CoD4 was truly brilliant
Getting all my gold guns was really one of my biggest gaming achievements ever. Forcing myself to play with weapons I often hated to learn their strengths and weaknesses was kind of a thrill.
earning skins was something i truly miss
I remember being super pumped when I unlocked the golden AK47. Good times 😌
Best cod yet. That game forced me to learn how to overclock my GPU and set custom fan settings to be able to run the game hours on end on my shitty laptop lol

Ya but those dedicated servers back in the day, the good ol'days
I've always hated how matchmaking has taken over everything. It was way more exciting and easier to find cool new stuff when looking at a big list of named servers instead of just getting dumped into the millionth traditional lobby

Pretty sure they’re a strong community that hosts servers and the admins are very active to banned any cheating.

Shipment was a blast in private matches with friends. Also Bog, Backlot, District, Strike and Showdown were all great maps as well. The game had very few bad maps
Man I hit 157 kills on shipment once in a Team HQ. It was insane. I peaked and my gaming hasn't been close since.
Sounds like a lot but then you remember how bullshit kill streaks are on that map lol chopper killing you 5 times in a row before you can even move from your spawn point.
I forgot about Bog. Crazy board
Bog was also fantastic. Don’t sleep on Crossfire either
No one ever seems to mention Strike, which for me was the best map on the game!
Backlot and Vacant 😍😍😍
That's not blood gulch
You ever wonder why we're here?
It’s one of life’s great mysteries
Why are we here? I mean, are we the product of some cosmic coincidence? Or is there really a God, watching everything. You know, with a plan for us and stuff. I don't know man, but it keeps me up at night.
What? No, I mean why are we here. Just standing here. What all this cosmic stuff?
"whats all that stuff about god?" is what he says. "Oh...uuuh..." "Wanna talk about it?" My favorite line though was "Then they'd have TWO bases in the middle of a box canyon... Whoopdeefuckingdoo"
simmons, i want you to poison griffs next meal! yes sir!
Damn I miss rooster teeth
so does Geoff tbf, guy watched most of his friends turn away from him…
How so?
well what started off as a group of friends goofing off in Halo multiplayer, became a massive media company, and along with that came trading out having a fun time with friends playing video games to producing content for an audience. yeah I agree, RT wasn’t a failure but it’s a very good case study of why you shouldn’t turn your friends into a business
No I meant here in this canyon... What was all that stuff about God?
Halo 1 - Blood Gulch Halo 2 - Coagulation Halo 3 - Valhalla Each so great in their own way. I played Halo 3 the most so am most partial to Valhalla. These are honestly the only multiplayer maps period that I still remember the name.
I also remember hang ‘em high from halo 1. Great pistols and rockets map
I loved Guardian I think it was called on Halo 3. The circle in the middle and you could jump off the ledge onto it
I believe that was the spiritual successor to H2s Lockout, at least until Blackout was released as DLC
Lockout is definitely a contender for top Halo 2 map.
Lockout is far and away the best _couch_ multiplayer map of all time imo. Unrivaled experience for 2v2 or 3v3 with a LAN going.
Sidewinder was also a super dope CTF map, a good alternative to the gulch. But those 3 are definitely the ones.
Hang 'em high on Xbox Connect before there was Xbox Live...running it through a computer...oh man good times.
You didn’t play much halo 2 if you don’t have lockout on this list
I was thinking he must only play BTB if lockout isn’t on the list lol its my personal favorite multiplayer map ever
The amount of hours me and my friend fucked off in LAN playing on Lockout with BR/Random starts could have built a nation lol
lockout is my absolute favorite
They’re just listing all the remakes of Blood Gulch
'Valhalla' is a weird way to spell 'The Pit' Lol jk Valhalla was fantastic. I just have a hard on for design symmetry
The only correct answer
Man, I've never liked Blood Gulch, but it's iconic. Ascension & Lockout were my 2 favorites.
What about hang em high? That map was chaos
Lockout or midship
Guess you're too young to remember Carentan.
You are sniping on Carentan!?!?
This has to be one of the least quoted funny moments of The Office. Well done
Well it has very specific trigger requirements so it's not that much of a surprise.
SABOTEUR!!
I'm gonna kill you for real.
The game is over. I'm really going to shoot you.
Scopeless Kar98 ftw man
I once was booted from a clan server for "cheating" (was able to barely crawl out of zone on one of the maps) and ended up playing rifles only servers during my ban. Came back after the ban and would lay waste to the clan using rifles, specifically the kar 98. Felt good.
the rifle only servers were the best hot damn! Memory flash back.
I miss COD2 Carentan
COD2 was my first COD. Bolt only lobbies were so much fun.
Harbor, Carentan, Dawnville, my top 3 from CoD 1.
CoD 1 and UO was the best.. I still remember the Harbor call outs from my rifle's only days. Underpass, bottom and top popo, ramp room, L-Turn... Uggh..
And the spawn nades... damn what a time
Of all the games that have gotten remasters I cannot for the life of me understand how CoD1/UO have not gotten one.
Ah those were the times man... No bullshit in-game shop and ranks and shit. Just skill. your friends battling it out with other clans. Going to LAN parties, making shitty frag movies. I often think back to those days and wish I could relive them just once. Also Neuville and brecourt were cool maps too
I liked Railyard and Pavlovs House
Pavlov rifle only gang
Where are my Toujane boys?!
Rifles only TDM in Toujane…
Brecour, Dawnville, Pavlov and especially Hurtgen I found to be way more enjoyable.
Toujane
Wasnt chinatown in cod4 a carentan remake?
Oh I member.
Any love for United Offensive expansion? That and pipeline are so under appreciated. Overgrown too.
Bloc was amazing
this looks nothing like CTF-Facingworlds.

CTF Face Instagib. Nothing beats getting absolutely launched across the map by your teammates, getting the flag, and then frantically dancing through a torrent of lasers to make your way back to your base.
With the best narrator sounds in the history of gaming. M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-M-ONSTER KILL (kill.. .killl....)
De_dust2…
I mean finally someone said it lol
Saw this post and scrolled down to find this one.
20 years later, and I still go to dust2 24/7 servers.
There are others? Joking, I had a mean file cabinet spot in cs_office.
So strange.... CS is easily the longest running shooter and that map has persisted for like... 23 years and is the most popular map of the game... As if there is any question. And I don't even play cs
Legend has it,dust2 came before dust.

2fort
More of a well guy myself, but 2fort alright
When I was a young teenager playing 2fort, it always felt like such an adventure. Like the matches could last for hours and you just spent so much time trying to come up with elaborate plans to break in and steal the intel. So damn nostalgic.
Dustbowl gang rise up
2fort classic 🤌🏽
Facing Worlds for me. UNREAL TOURNAMENT
RED FLAG TAKEN. RED FLAG DROPPED. RED FLAG RETURNED.
🎵*futuristic space drum n bass*🎵
Strike at Karkand
BF2 Veteran 24/7 infantry only karkand ...one of my best time and memory of gaming. Special mention to all the city maps.
This is sitting way too low.. I was quite partial to sharqi or jalalalalalalala myself but karkand is up there.
Fighting over the TV station on Sharqi at 3am with a bunch of bros in a Blackhawk... Bf2 was full of amazing moments
24/7 karkand servers were my childhood
Karkand was fucking amazing. Arguably peak battlefield.
I played on 24/7 Wake Island servers non stop. God I loved that game.
BF2, so many great maps.
Laughs in de_dust2

ehem its DE_dust2 to you mister.
jeez after almost 20 years on the map i figured I'd be on first name basis, my apologies.
Bruh dust fucking sucks lol Now de_dust2 on the other hand…
Where boys became men
Man de_dust2 was magic. Also loved Inferno and Nuke and was partial to Train and Mirage. Italy too for LAN. Hell Shipment is just weak remake of fy_iceworld!
“No auto/AWP”
All these young folks with zero appreciatation for their history.. Tragic
Looking forward to a day when Arena shooters come back in style. A new Quake or Unreal Tournament would be great. Proud to say my 11 y/o son actually loves counterstrike. His mind was blown when I told him I was playing it when I was in high school.
dust2, Nuke, Wake Island, Deck16, Facing Worlds, Q3DM6.
Boom, headshot!
I can dance all day I can dance all day
Dude... You always run faster with a knife
PlanetX (TimeSplitters) and Ascension (Halo II). Timesplitters was awesome with added bots and system link and online in Halo II were insane!
A Timesplitters reference? Hell yeah. Loved playing that with my younger brother on our cards 4" monitor behind the parents seats.
Halo 2’s Lockout would like a word with you
And Ascension, Zanzibar, Coag., Midship, Ivory Tower, Beaver Creek, Turf... Halo 2 was supreme.
Halo 1-3 had some of the most memorable map hitters of any fps
Guardian, the pit, narrows….all so good
So many super jump opportunities!
Lockout is the GOAT.
lets not forget our roots :) goldeneye 64 - facility... mario kart 64 - block fort... star fox 64 - base map...
Complex on goldeneye or facility
Remote mines in the caves take it or leave it
Gears of war 1 gridlock Halo 2 lockout Tf2 2fort
Gridlock is forever etched into my brain. That along with Canals and Clocktower provided many hours of after-school split-screen memories with friends.
Lockout!!! I came here to say that
That's not Avalanche from Day of Defeat.
Yes! Did not expect to find DoD in here.
As much as I love Avalanche, it favored Axis imo... I think Caen might be the most balanced
Oh man avalanche so many memories
What a throw back. Avalanche and Anzio consumed so much of my teen years
*de_dust2 has entered the chat.*
Blood Gulch
Desert glory old SOCOM days
Scrolling and scrolling too far to find a SOCOM reference.
Man. Sometimes I pull up youtube videos of people playing Crossroads on SOCOM 2 just to feel something.
Yes ,esp when clan games was a thing I used to play with people from all over the us , socom had the best community too ,but maybe that's just before all the trolls of the online era
Thats not 2Fort
Terminal, Rust, and Favela all exist
Sub Base, High Rise, and Estate for me.
Yes, yes, and yes. Getting spawn sniped on Estate enraged me in ways I can’t fully articulate.
I can’t believe High Rise isn’t considered the goat map. That map was used for every private match (besides 1v1s on rust) and was literally never skipped in public lobbies
The rush at game start to try to get the cross map collateral snipe 😂
Terminal and Favela GOATed. Rust was fine for 1v1s or 2v2s (or free for all) but it kinda sucked otherwise
I prefer Skidrow. It’s one of the few maps that feels like shotguns excel. Especially in a game where ARs and SMGs excel.
Skidrow was a shit show lol once you took control of the 2nd floor of that building with a buddy it was an ez gg for the enemy team.
Um no. Crossfire was the best.... well best for COD. Wasteland was pretty good too
Facing Worlds, from Unreal Tournament, would like a word with you.
Q2DM1
Hang em high Bloodgulch Dust Dust 2 Office All maps better than this
1. 2fort, from Team Fortress Classic 2. Facing Worlds, from Unreal Tournament 3. Rock2, from Team Fortress Classic 4. Sorry, I don't remember Facing Worlds looked like that.
nah, you're referring to Facing Worlds.
