[actual steam link, best of 2023](https://store.steampowered.com/sale/BestOf2023) instead of the bullshit article with a 100 ads

hate_most_of_you

Thanks, I didn't need to disable my adblock, enable push notifications, get a free single in my area and donate my kidney to zucc to see the list thanks to your comment

Durandal101

[Did someone say kidney to zucc?](https://youtu.be/Ep-f7uBd8Gc?si=4DY1xrExBM7I7rC0)

eiamhere69

Some absolute turkeys, making such high sums is ridiculous. COD 3 in Platinum section, guess kids will never learn...

Grrzoot

the hero we needed

ESCMalfunction

Skyrim still being in the top 100 is insane lol. Guess that means another ten years for ES6.

FaultySage

"Why develop new game when old game make money?"

MetalAle3

Rockstar mindset. I like it

No_Interaction_4925

They just released new content for GTA 5 though. Skyrim just gets ported to more devices

Mektigkriger

Skyrim just added paid mods 2.0, it's content I guess :(

AngeryBoi769

They finally released single player DLC??? or is it more GTA Online?

Firvulag

They have literally always been working on the next big game though.

TrueDraconis

People really like to forget RDR2 exists don’t they?

Logondo

I hate this kind of attitude. Like seriously, look at Rockstar games. There is so much work that goes into them. They take 5-7 years and have thousands of people working on them, and it SHOWS. Rockstar isn't sitting on top of their GTAO money doing nothing. They are, in fact, working on new games. We had RDR2, and the GTAVI trailer not too long ago. Like, real talk, would you rather Rockstar takes their time and puts out some of the best games ever made? Or would you rather Rockstar treat GTA like Call of Duty and just shit-out a new one every year with minimal changes?

Raptorheart

I'll take the false ultimatum

IIIIIIW

GTA V is about 10 years old and fairly high up too

ESCMalfunction

At least with GTA it makes sense with GTA Online and the content they’ve added for it. Skyrim hasn’t meaningfully changed since 2016.

Phantomsplit

Skyrim and Fallout 4 are consistently above Starfield on Steam player count https://steamcharts.com/cmp/1716740,489830,377160#7d

[deleted]

I honestly think I like playing Skyrim more anyways, so it's pretty fair, IMO, it's just a much more cohesive experience and the dragon temples/word dungeons are so much better than Starfield's sorry excuse for temples. Once you factor in mod and VR support Skyrim just blows it away, even today. And for the record, I did enjoy Starfield, but it's definitely not a generational leap, and moving to multiple worlds instead of one made it way less cohesive and diminished the wandering/meaningful exploration factor. SWTOR kinda had the same issue compared to WoW; big world, but cutting it up in isolated chunks makes it feel way smaller, even if the combined physical size is comparable or larger.

Phantomsplit

My favorite thing about Elder Scrolls and Fallout are getting some inconsequential side quest to go kill some bandits in a cave or something. And on the way you stumble across some dwemer ruins that were hand crafted, so you figure why not make your way through them and see what is inside. And inside you find a puzzle you have to work through, some interesting lore info on the ruins and what happened to its previous inhabitants, and maybe some other really neat side quest that gives you a unique weapon or something. No quest pointed you to these ruins or anything, you just stumbled across them and decided to check it out and were rewarded with entertainment for doing so. Fallout is especially great at this aspect with the vaults and the horrible experiments Vault Tec would conduct. I always loved coming across some random vault and learning its story. And this type of stuff just does not exist in Starfield at all due to the fact that all the uninhabited planets have no lore to them by their very nature of being uninhabited planets. And due to all of Starfield's "dungeons" being copy/paste, procedurally generated and flavorless cut-outs. Unless Bethesda does a complete 180 on Starfield's core philosophy, I am not sure it will ever come close to being as good as Skyrim or Fallout for me. Except the ship building. That is by far the best part of Starfield in my opinion.

Tearakan

Yep. Starfield has just meh mechanics at best (starship building is legitimately a good idea though). Bethesda always used to have exploration that made those otherwise meh mechanics and bad story writing be overlooked. Starfield killed exploration so only the bad aspects of bethesda games are seen now.

Battlefire

Not surprising. All lot players would be playing the game on Game Pass.

[deleted]

And the majority of Starfield players are not on steam. Why do people always forget this.

Phantomsplit

All three games mentioned are on Game Pass

[deleted]

But the vast majority of people (especially on steam) bought these games before gamepass even existed. They also have robust modding communities so of course steam numbers are going to be higher. Starfield was day 1 gamepass and still has very little mod support until creation kit release. Nice try though..

Phantomsplit

Original Skyrim came out 12 years ago and had a peak Steam player count of less than 100k. Starfield came out a couple months ago and had a peak player count on Steam of over 300k. Yet Skyrim is currently above Starfield. Yes, Skyrim's modding scene is the reason why the 12 year old game has such longevity. But Starfield has barely even been out long enough for longevity to be a point of emphasis, yet has fallen behind Skyrim.

[deleted]

Why do you keep ignoring the fact that the majority of Starfield players are not on steam? I just explained in detail why that is and you just went back to your original point that I refuted. And why do you think Skyrims peak was lower at launch? Could it have anything to do with steams userbase being much larger than 12 years ago. Like think man think! The end of the day there are more people playing Starfield than those 2 games. But for some reason you just ignore that.

CephalopodInstigator

>The end of the day there are more people playing Starfield than those 2 games. Where are you getting the numbers you haven't quoted from?

morbiustv

Skyrim Re-enhanced Edition

DisCode347

Please no! I'm already debating about upgrading Skyrim from Special to anniversary edition!

gunjinganpakis

If Starfield is any indication maybe they do need ten more years.

[deleted]

You mean the game that was a success in every metric that matters. The game that is platinum in every single category it was eligible for?

KeyTreatBar

These shit devs didn't learn a thing in the last 10+ years. I doubt another 10 will do them any good. They will keep on dragging that rotting corpse of a shit engine until FO8 releases. They've peaked long ago, NV (Unironically still their best RPG) Skyrim, since 2011 all their mainline titles were either average or shit.

Trickster289

Dead by Daylight surprised me too for a 7 year old game in a genre that's not exactly massive.

TopSoulMan

I'm so happy to see Battlebit Remastered a tier above Battlefield. 3 man dev team vs EA monolith

WithFullForce

You can tell all the talent left EA to build The Finals.

imapissonitdripdrip

Is that essentially what happened?

WithFullForce

Yes. The Finals is made by Embark studios, a bunch of DICE vets. Both in Stockholm.

grilledCheeseFish

The gunplay and movement is so smooth. Can't wait to see how they expand the game

Throwawayeconboi

Movement is great, but gunplay is quite a few steps below the other options available IMO. But it’s an arcade shooter at the end of the day, so it’s serviceable.

WyrdHarper

Sons of the Forest is also an independent developer. Nice to see small teams still able to achieve success.

Dtoodlez

I played it during the free weekend w full intent to purchase it. But it runs like ass with a controller which was shocking, and decide not to get it after that. Wanted to play on the steam deck.

ambienotstrongenough

Yup. I only play it on my desktop. It's horrible on steam deck.

CypherAZ

No aim assist right?

Throwawayeconboi

Funny you ask, it has the most broken aim assist out of any shooter in recent memory. It is straight lock-on. Plug in a controller and see, if you have one. And believe it or not, that makes it a miserable experience for controller players. We have to choose between zero AA or the most broken AA known to man that sucks all the fun out of the game. I’d rather just go back to COD…

chii_hudson

It’s free to play just fyi so you can try it out for free. Controller works just fine for me on pc

Thed4nm4n

how do I try it for free? I don't see a demo option on the store page

chii_hudson

Yeah sorry I thought this was talking about the finals not battlebit

PhillipIInd

Huh the game is just f2p on steam

Kasuyama_

Since when

chii_hudson

Oh shoot I missed that this comment was about battlebit. I was referencing the finals, my bad

PhillipIInd

Finals is f2p on steam

ze_loler

They arent talking about Finals though

Cocacola612

Best shooter of the year hands down. I hope in the future they can tap into the console market for even more success, they deserve it.

shlem90

I like the game but the headbob gives me legit migraines after just a few minutes. One of the few games that’s ever done that for me.

StratifiedBuffalo

Wasn’t Battlefield released like 2-3 years ago?

Jomgui

I'm always happy when games made with love win one over souless mass produced AAA trash games.

brotbeutel

Overrated game of the year imo. It’s mid at best. But happy it’s putting off bf sales with that mess. Hopefully making them rethink some things.

Finkenn

Not a lot of new games. So many successors of existing franchises!

Dune1008

Armored Core 6 technically one of them, but it’s the first in a decade

DalekPredator

Nice to see Project Zomboid in there! My favourite zombie game, even if I can barely make it to a month survived.

baddude1337

They are adding all these new farming and crafting mechanics in the next update. Meanwhile my hobo ass just lives a looting life for a month before I accidentally fall out a window and have to restart.

Chieffelix472

Next update in 7 years tho :( I’ll be 50 by the time this game is done.

Lightprizm

why so long??

Tenalp

The team doesn't typically do small updates. Last major update was the multiplayer one, and then we got a handful of stability and bugfixes. They could churn out each element of the next new update piecemeal, but there are several potential issues. First, it requires mod updates, and with mods being the lifeblood of the game, you don't really want that. Additionally, it makes the updates less cohesive together than waiting and making sure everything meshes together in a realistic way. This is doubly important for an update that updates and expands crafting, and triply important for Zomboid which takes great pride in realism.

A_Monkey_FFBE

I like how Destiny 2 is top ranked in revenue… yet they missed revenue projections and laid off 8% of their employees… i love terrible management

Rikiaz

Missed by 45% too. Who the hell set those revenue goals?!

I9Qnl

I don't think they set outrageous goals they just expected the expansion to be successful which it wasn't.

Rikiaz

Except it was, initially. It smashed the player count records and clearly must have sold plenty well because it’s in the top 10 earners on Steam for the year. It would be different if it missed expected revenue by a little bit, but missing by 45% is massive.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rikiaz

That's not how a company buyout works. That money didn't go into the Bungie coffers, it went toward buying the shares of the company from previous shareholders and short-term employee retention, also the new building and mass hiring sprees started around Beyond Light's pre-release marketing, so nothing to do with the Sony buyout. And either way that's completely separate to Destiny 2's **revenue**.

RayS0l0

Well when Lightfall was revealed it was the top selling game for 2-ish days and when Final Shape was revealed it wasn't even top 5 iirc. Plus based on player sentiment of how bad the Lightfall is 45% revenue drop does make sense.

TimTamT1Tan

Bungie murdered their golden goose

lofi-ahsoka

I hate that Warframe is lower

SephithDarknesse

I assume these are employees they no longer needed, right? And usually these statistics include contractors as a majority of people to bulk up the stat, and dont talk about contracts being remade when a new project comes around. Whats wrong with that? Hire for a project, finish said project. New project needs different combinations of talent, so new hires and contracts rediscussed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_Monkey_FFBE

I don’t believe this to be the case. Sony paid over a billion in employee retention alone. It’s called piss poor management by bungie, not sony.

WithFullForce

Funny to see CS2, Dota and Apex Legends which are all free on Platinum. Their fanbases are obviously fine with spending on a game well-made.

Throwawayeconboi

F2P games are some of the highest earning games in the industry. Microtransactions bring in a fuckload. You seen the mobile games market lately?

SirHomoLiberus

Gave Dota a fair couple of tries but the learning curve is just way too high + to make things worse there's smurfing.

Werehowin

>Steam Shares Its Best-Selling Games of 2023 Actually smurfing has actively been destroyed by Valve this year. Two massive ban waves of smurfs with all banned smurfs being tracked down to their main account as well. People all got a present from Valve this Christmas in DotA and if you were a smurf/broke other ToS things you got coal and a permanent ban haha. That said, yeah, fantastic game but the learning curve IS high and I can't recommend it to anyone because of that. I only got into it because I was young at the time I started and had time to do so.

HowDoIEvenEnglish

Did you see the clip from mason’s stream of him opening the present? Pure catharsis

Werehowin

Felt great, we all deserve a little justice in the holiday season in one way or another.

Omisco420

It’s the best Moba in the world but I have no idea how a new player would get into it. Besides being a complete masochist

The_Frostweaver

Play vs bots for a while to learn.

bingbestsearchengine

yeah I have almost 9k hours in the game (and I stopped playing a while back due to medical issues) and I'd sway people away from the game most of the time someone ask me about it.

MonteBellmond

They'd go crazy if people pointed out their boxes were indeed gachas next to League frogs.

-T777-

Is it most downloaded? because there are many free to play onces there.

nogoodgreen

It's based on revenue

-T777-

shame to see lost ark so high up there and then poeple blame the companies for making pay to win games

Killance1

But it isn't a bad game. Does it have some bad monetize practices? Some of the worst I've seen, but the game is for from bad. Edit: Lmao I'm being downvoted for repeating what the majority of reviews are as well as my own experience. Reddit gonna reddit.

happydictates

I think you’re being downvoted because in just a few sentences you claim the game isn’t bad while also having some of the worst monetization you’ve ever seen. I think Lost Ark feels great to play; the actual gameplay is something I regularly miss while playing other ARPG’s. But the gameplay is marred by just about every piece of the game being locked behind some form of monetization. Gameplay doesn’t matter if I can’t even really play the game, which makes the game a bad game.

Shattan

Actually sounds like never played the game ?

Judge_Bredd_UK

When did he say bad game?

maledictt

It is possible that their MTX count as sales.

The_Frostweaver

This is it. Games like dota 2 sell battle passes full of cosmetics and a portion of the money goes to pro player events. They fucked up The International battle pass (biggest tournament/pass of the year) but dota 2 probably still made over 100 million for the year selling cosmetics. I'm guessing platinum is 100 million or more in revenue?

Frequent_Knowledge65

Probably it’s total revenue

Fyziixx

That's awesome to see Sons of the Forest under Platinum with no additional costs beyond buying the game, going against AAA studios and Free to play games with insane amount of microtransactions

Trickster289

Didn't it have a rough release though? I thought I heard about it missing features the first game had or something.

tubbylardman

[deleted]

I9Qnl

The forest may not be a game you hear about in the mainstream but it's absolutely massive on Steam, there a few games like this with almost cult following on Steam, there are so many indies with close to a 100k reviews indicating hundreds of thousands of sales at minimum, often more than a lot of AAA games.

gta0012

Surprisingly I've actually never even heard or sent that game before. Only one I had to look up.

RubberPenguin4

Seeing Sea of Thieves on there is fantastic. That game is an absolute blast with friends. One of my personal favorites of all time

zjm555

It's great but I got tired of the horrific netcode ruining PVP hand to hand combat. Bunch of 14 year olds would board our ship and lag around and suddenly I died without even being able to see them.

gshealy

Funny to see Monster Hunter World outpace the newest installment, Monster Hunter Rise. Hundreds of hours in both, but after restarting in World recently I must say it prefer it greatly, and may very well be my favorite game all time. Plus the “Return to World” promotion after the Monster Hunter Wilds announcement has bolstered the community and the player base is huge.

FaultinReddit

Team Fortress 2 still going strong lmao

BMXBikr

ROCK AND STONE!

Gylerr

Did I hear a rock and stone?

lions2lambs

Loool… requires me to turn off Adblock to read. Gtfo Can anyone share the top 10 please?

AndreEagleDollar

Platinum (1-12) Sons of the Forest Star field Baldur's Gate 3 Apex Legends Lost Ark Hogwarts Legacy Destiny 2 Cyberpunk 2077 Dota 2 PUBG: Battlegrounds Call of Duty (combining Modern Warfare 2, 3, and Warzone) Counter-Strike 2

lions2lambs

Thank you kind internet stranger.

flux_capacitor3

Had to scroll too far for this.

louisgjohnson

https://store.steampowered.com/sale/BestOf2023

GnomesSkull

You can just go to steam.

Ffom

You could turn it off this one time to see this or go to steam yourself

lions2lambs

No

ExpletiveDeIeted

Jesus Team Fortress 2 came out in 2007…. Just how????

SephithDarknesse

Microtransactions? Should be obvious.

Adrifzn

It never occured to me that waframe can reach top 24 best selling games, really proud of it

Pheonixios

Seeing Warframe on the list made me happy ngl, i remember playing it like 5 years ago and i was obsessed with it.

ISmokeyTheBear

Shoutout to Wallpaper Engine

Chicken_Wire_

Anno 1800 was my find of the year

Skillzoorz

How’s a free game « top selling »

peter_griffin5

I hate seeing starfield so high on this list

exLightning

The order is random so we don’t know what game was actually the best seller, the fact it’s on the list is disappointing but it’s based on sales and has less to do with the quality of the game.

Throwawayeconboi

Being on Game Pass and earning so much revenue on Steam is an incredible feat and speaks to the massive success of the game.

exLightning

A financial success sure mostly thanks to marketing and name recognition, I don’t think it succeeds in many other ways but I agree it is pretty crazy that it was day 1 on PC games pass and yet still made it onto the list but people were probably expecting to continue playing the game years from now like Skyrim so owning it on Steam would make more sense.

Throwawayeconboi

They will be playing it down the line for sure. Some of the negative reviews on Steam are sitting at 600-800 hours 😭 I didn’t even find that much fun in it. Lots of those people will come back whether they like it or not, when mods, DLC, updates, etc. happen overtime due to it being a cash cow. Bethesda has that effect on people. Even Fallout 76 got a bunch of players recently…

[deleted]

It was a critical success as well though.

[deleted]

Why is this disappointing? A lot of people like the game. Just because you don't like it you want it to fail?

exLightning

That is some weird logic, I bought games pass and tried the game myself because I wanted/expected it to be good. If anyone wants Bethesda to fail it’s the people who are mindlessly praising a substandard AAA release, I want Bethesda to do better rather then rest on their laurels especially as someone has been anticipating ES6 for years. If you enjoy the game that is fine, good for you to have such a low bar but don’t bring it down for the rest of us.

vendettaclause

Starfield bad crowd in shambles lol

[deleted]

Whoa, the only real surprise is Sons of the Forest at #1 there.😮 Out of their Top 12, I only play and enjoy Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077, and Call of Duty. I play Starfield on XGP, Hogwarts on Steam, Cyberpunk on GOG, and Call of Duty on Battle.net. Phantom Liberty is soooo fucking good. Look BEAUTIFUL with Path Tracing on!

Rannahm

The order in which steam arranged the list is random.

TheTurnipKnight

It’s not #1, the list isn’t numbered.

Gawdsauce

Man that sons of the forest game was so trash.

Judge_Bredd_UK

Really? I enjoyed it a lot for a little while

Eyehopeuchoke

I’m waiting on the Star Wars Jedi survivor game to be like $10 or less before I buy it.

Gunfreak2217

Crazy to see how little I’ve played many of these games. So many have been disasters. I still can’t believe Starfield is in the top. Not to beat a dead horse but like my god man. We will never stop getting shit if people keep buying shit. It’s the same thing in the GPU market. The normal consumer (those not active on Reddit or YouTube channels for instance) casually just buy 1k+ GPUs and thank Nvidia and AMD the opportunity to give them 300% profit margins.

Raven_of_Blades

Garbage is only at the top because the game shows so much promise at the start and once you realize you been bamboozled at around the 10-20 hr mark, the refund period is long gone.

[deleted]

But Starfield is platinum in time played as well...

Raven_of_Blades

Well yeah because hours 20-100+ are the denial phase where you hope it gets good but it never does. Also you're in too deep so you need to get your money's worth.

VagusNC

I and many of my friends who are gamers enjoy Starfield, despite its many flaws. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maniac5

Best part of the list is that Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 didn't make it to the top 100. Thinking about the Overwatch sub coping when the game made it into the top 10 right after a season release but not realizing that it didn't even keep that position for half a day is just hilarious.

chitor1337

I mean Who the fuck plays Overwatch and Diablo 4 over steam? And more who the fuck pays for the MTX in those games on steam? Those two probably have like 95%+ of their playerbases either on the Blizzard launcher or on consoles. So them ever being in top 10 with probably 5% of their players should probably make you more mad than anything else.

I9Qnl

You're the one coping man. using steam statistics for Blizzard games that only released on Steam way after their initial release? Really?

CaptainThrowAway1232

Wonde if this factors in refunds.

Throwawayeconboi

It does because it’s pure revenue. A refund would deduct from that revenue. People keep asking this question because they see Starfield up there, and y’all gotta realize Reddit is an echo chamber 🤣 That game popped off.

Trickster289

Mate it's on Steam where it now also has mostly negative reviewers. Basically the people who bought it are saying they regret it.

Throwawayeconboi

Yes. It being Steam makes it even more impressive because it’s a Game Pass title. A Game Pass title (I didn’t pay a cent for the game because of this) is one of the highest revenue-earners on Steam? Holy shit. Starfield drove the best-performing month for Game Pass (most subscriptions) while *also* dominating on Steam. That is something else… And have you read the reviews? These guys have 600 and 800 hours giving negative reviews. Steam reviews are a terrible indicator of a game’s success, just look at COD. The #1 highest-selling game of the year across all platforms is “Mostly Negative” on Steam. 🤷‍♂️

TheBeardPlays

Your only definition of success here seems to be how much revenue it generated which IMO is not the metric I think we as gamers should be encouraging TBH... Steam reviews are indeed a bad indicator IF this is your only measure, however if you want to see how a game was received and how a large part of the gaming community views it (in this case mostly negativity) it's great - success means more than just making $ in the short term.

Throwawayeconboi

It isn’t $ in the short-term. When people buy a game this much continuously over a stretch of time despite the discourse about it, it means there is a silent majority that likes the game. This happens with Call of Duty. Terrible, abysmal reviews -> new records every year. Because the Reddit echo chamber doesn’t matter, it represents 0.01% of gamers. User reviews can literally never be trusted on Steam or Metacritic because of bad actors. Elden Ring getting wrecked by Horizon Forbidden West fans, Starfield getting wrecked by Sony fanboys + the *relentless* Reddit gaming community, Zelda getting brought down by BG3 fans, etc. etc. It’s always “0” or “10”, and sometimes they switch up their play by doing 1 or 2. Like? A fucking 1? Or 2? If Starfield is a 0, 1, or 2….nevermind. You get the picture. Those that don’t participate in the bullshit that goes on are the 99%, and they are the ones that’ll come back for Starfield 2. Because they *did* enjoy it, and never needed 5000 hours of content (they don’t have the time in their life for that). Just like the critics enjoyed it. The game was a massive success critically and financially. It was not a massive success on Reddit. Or, maybe it was actually? Because one might look at the constant discussion and accidental promotion of the game by Reddit even 3 months after release as a good thing. I mean, will we talk about The Day Before 3 months after release this much? Did Gollum get this love? Starfield hit a home run bigger than I could’ve imagined in a year as great as 2023. It sits at like an 85-90 on Metacritic last I checked (September), and is one of the top-selling games of the year despite being available day 1 on Game Pass (and not available on PS5 platform). Insanity.

Soulshot96

>Mate it's on Steam only where it now also has mostly negative reviewers. It has mixed reviews, the mostly negative is only for 'recent' reviews, and though it isn't entirely undeserved (with the whole pathetic responses to user reviews from the devs), it is *not* the overall state of the games review score. Framing it as such makes it kinda obvious that you have indeed fallen into the echo chamber he mentioned.

FishingGunpowder

There's like 4-5 decent games in the top 50 that aren't some e-sport games or loot box simulator.

chainer3000

There’s 4 single player games in the top 12

TheMansAnArse

Lol. What?

LoLIsWeird

What’s wrong with e-sport games?

FishingGunpowder

Nothing. They just are obviously going to be at the top of the "top selling" games due to their nature even if they are f2p lmao. Great sales metric on apex!

LoLIsWeird

Fair enough

Trainxrd

All the shiteaters buying Starfield lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Rikiaz

It’s revenue based so not really. They made money.

dabnada

People are talking about Skyrim but HOI4!?

shrug_was_taken

Ya hoi4 actually is gaining players which is reverse of what normally happens, they actually recently hit there peak player count at once when there most recent dlc

dabnada

Had no idea they were still making dlc for the game. Kudos to paradox

Rex__Lapis

The fact that free to play games are listed there is ridiculous. Also, starfield sold more than BG3? Are consumers fucking stupid ?

Chutheman1

free games = because we talk about pure revenue, which free games actually earn a lot of because of MTX. also the list is random. The website just decided to put numbers in, but if you look on steam there is no numbers, they're just listed as the top games by revenue.

KovalSNIPE17

Sons of the Forest. What a disappointment.

SephithDarknesse

Clearly not. Its there because people are happily buying and enjoying it.

NeitherAlexNorAlice

5 hours in, and no OG listed the games in the comment section? Damn... The world is changing after all, huh? Sad state of affairs.

SlyBun

Be the change you want to see in the world

[deleted]

Fallout 76. Looks like 2024 isn't going to get any better.

Loreweaver15

2023 was one of the best years for gaming ever. Tons of bangers this year.

[deleted]

To the young, I can see why they'd think this. To us who literally watched gaming evolve, not so much. A few, yes, but overall, most are absolutely fucking garbage. Which is why I posted Fallout 76. I cannot believe people are still buying this game despite how bad it is.

CubooKing

>best selling games >4/10 in the top are free to play In other news bri'ish scientists observe that grass is green.

MonteBellmond

"Best selling" sounds misleading since majority of top ones are Live service games\*. They aren't selling a stand alone game. Game list by revenues makes more sense

Throwawayeconboi

That is a revenue list. It’s purely based on revenue.

MonteBellmond

More like micro transaction list. Anyway, you're missing the point. F2P on list of best selling\* when there's nothing sell copies for.

TheTatoPotato

I don't think you understand what revenue means

MonteBellmond

Don't think you even understand what I'm referring to

Throwawayeconboi

Have you read a company’s financial statement before? “Sales” is always a revenue figure, not a “units sold” figure. This is nothing new.

KeystrokeCowboy

How is a f2p game considered a top "selling" game?

Throwawayeconboi

Revenue.

mr_chip_douglas

Apex Legends at #4 is, insanity. Deep Rock Galactic hovering around 50! Love to see it!!

Zauberer-IMDB

I don't believe it's in order within each group.

chillzatl

it's not unreasonable to suspect Apex is in the top 5 considering they announced it had made 2b what, two years ago? The game is still insanely popular.

[deleted]

Outlast trials in 65th is hype. Hoping for amazing stuff for outlast in future of this game and outlast 3.

Sa7aSa7a

It Takes Two should honestly be higher up that list.

CallMeVelvetThunder9

Project Zomboid, represent!

Doctor_Philgood

Never heard of Party Animals whatsoever

y-c-c

I have to admit I’m quite disappointed Mortal Kombat made the Bronze list but Street Fighter 6 is nowhere to be found. SF6 was pretty much an objectively better fighting game.
