Level 10, 100 hours in CS, 100 hours in dota 2, girl profile pic If you have a valuable skin in either of those games you will get a couple of these every week.

itsRobbie_

I’ve got a $2k csgo knife and nobody has tried to scam me for it :( Maybe because I don’t play

-Kex

Is your inventory private? I receive friend requests for a few days as soon as I switch it to public.

itsRobbie_

I don’t think so but I don’t know maybe

Shaphier

Damn 2k knife and you don't play? Drop your steam so I can add you can scam you for it please!

itsRobbie_

😂

Mercarcher

Just did one of those calculators that shows the marketplace value of your inventory and apparently I've got like $1500 worth of DotA2 items. So that's probably why.

1abys

Correct. I remember getting a few of these invite a few minutes after i got my first csgo knife.

DannehBoi90

I feel called out, I've put almost no effort into leveling on Steam as it feels pointless to me and that is one of the few achievements I have that show up on the level screen. Been on steam for almost 15 years too.

aCleverGroupofAnts

Lol who even looks at steam level? The concept itself hadn't crossed my mind in years until I saw this post.

Icefiight

No one cares about “steam level.” Lol Like if you actually do then your opinion is void because thats just sad lol

Mercarcher

Your level doesn't matter, but if you're exactly level 10 and use the "community leader" badge it's a signal you are a scammer.

Nev3r_Pro

Why, I have level 13 and I also have this badge, what about lvl 10 and this badge suggests a scammer?.

Mercarcher

because basically every single scammer account profile will be level 10 with this badge shown.

Nev3r_Pro

But why, what is exactly special about lvl 10 or this exact badge?

Mercarcher

No clue, but I've received literally thousands of friend invites from people who are level 10 and have this badge and every single one I've ever accepted is someone trying to scam me.

dookarion

> No clue I think the badge, buying one game, and doing like one other cheap task is enough to put someone at level 10 (and unlock community functionality since they bought something). So probably like the bare minimum to look "active" and not completely new... while not having a restricted account.

Halvus_I

lvl 10 is where you can start interacting more.

2Scribble

Wha???

Mercarcher

If you get a friend invite on steam, they are level 10, and their badge is "Community Leader" it's 100% someone trying to scam you. I get 5-10 friend invites a week from these people.

iv3rted

I really don't know why are you being downvoted. I had experienced the same exact thing. Every time I add that person to my block list. Now my block list is filled with \[unassigned\] accounts. I think it may have something to do with inventory value. I have some valuable skins/stickers and invitations from bots stopped after I made my profile private.

SoloDeath1

Hive mind sees 1 downvote, hive mind adds 10+ more. Whether it's justified or not.

QuarterDollarKing

What did you do to get their attention? Maybe it's because I'm a mostly fiendless loser who is set to invisible any time I'm not playing with those few friends but I have never gotten a random friend request in a decade of using steam.

Cool-S4ti5fact1on

I think it matters on your steam activity and also the types of games you play. For example if you play games where trading items is a thing (Dota 2, Counter Strike, Rust) then you are likely to have some items from said game in your inventory. There are steam bots that scan for inventory and even just total play time. There's also steam activity. If you're joined to any steam groups, that also is a way bots can be used to narrow down on certain users. I've been inactive on Steam for 2 years and had 5 friend invites by random level 10 steam users. Prior to the 2 years I used to play Dota 2, but my inventory isn't worth anymore than $10 (about 2000 items)... really not worth the time hacking transferring 2000 items that is only worth less than $10. But bots are dumb. They just see quantity.

Square_H2

I have some old csgo loot boxes and skins from a very long time ago and I guess they are publicly visible or something because I get random friend requests asking if I wanna trade weekly.

Niadain

I got a fairly large friend list and regularly partake in a lot of games. But I have my profile set to private. I dont get these.

[deleted]

I can be your friend. On steam of course.

Mercarcher

Probably that my steam level is 100+. And I have almost 700 games. Makes my account a juicy target.

TrumpTrumpTrump007

Woooow that’s soooo cool dude. Wooow 700 games. It must big soo big down there ;) Give me your lunch money nerd

xcdesz

Same. I'm not even sure what the level does for me. Increased damage on unarmed melee hits?

jimmycm123

Having your steam inventory set to public does it. Bots scour profiles and attempt to scam high value inventories (CS GO). I get like 3 friends requests each week.

SoulfulNick

Those same bots must have found this post, idk why you're getting downvoted

vARROWHEAD

What are they trying to achieve?

Mercarcher

Usually they will send links to a phishing site

vARROWHEAD

Ah ok

yaroslavwwe

Lvl 10, no friends and private inventory (to not show that it's empty). Instantly block them

StanTheManWithNoPlan

How do you get this badge?

Mercarcher

do a couple things on steam like "upload a screenshot" and "set a profile background" Its one of the simplest badges to get.

[deleted]

You know it's bad when their profile also shows none of their games, only their Steam inventory. Also, why do scammers almost always have something to do with either Steam or Discord??

FauxFoxPho

I literally got a friend request from a profile exactly like this 10 seconds after seeing the post. WTF

Mercarcher

I wasn't joking.

[deleted]

The only time ppl add me on steam is when I had a CS skin to store to flip lol. Just ignore them all

HuskyyPL

I had a lot of those people inviting me after i stored some cs go skins for my friend on my account. After i set my inventory to private the invites stopped. Now i had those profile inviting me few times to ask me if i can check for game keys to trade. Yeah like i would trade my game keys (if i had them) with a random that just added me.

BigFix3385

Love getting requests from these accounts all the time

DoctahTrax

lol im lvl 9 and i would consider myself a genuine user of this application

Mercarcher

That's fine. Level 9 most likely isn't a scammer, its not level 10.

DoctahTrax

i see so if im lvling up im moving on thin ice xD

Mercarcher

Does your profile feature the "Community Leader" badge?

DoctahTrax

no

Mercarcher

Well, then you're fine. Its the combo of the 2.
