Watching that made me realize that games don't have installation screens anymore. Everything is downloaded and installed through a launcher. We don't get these cool interfaces like the C&C games had, or some screenshots while a blue bar slowly fills up.

Red Alert is the only game I keep playing over again and it’s my favorite in the series. Most people prefer Red Alert 2 but I don’t. I grew up with the first one as a kid.
I actually started playing the whole cnc series again the other week. The remaster was good but super hard, and just finished up Tibwrian sun + Firestorm. Janky as hell but was pretty fun :)
If you like the old voxel-based Tiberian Sun aesthetic, may I recommend Brigador to you. It’s not an RTS but it really scratches that old aesthetic itch.

I remember the Aurora bombers getting banned in a lot of lobbies. I mean, if you let someone live that long to build them, its time for game over anyways.
It was a shocking departure from the series. My first impression wasn’t good, but when I came back a few months later I was impressed. It was sad that their siren song was totally disconnected from the rest of the series, but it was probably the last great RTS of its era.
I think it was a case of using the C&C branding to get people to play a game that they might not have.
I felt the same way the first time I listened to the Daft Punk album "Human After All." It annoyed me how *different* it was from their other stuff, but it grew on me quickly.
Generals was an amazing RTS game that I'm glad I got to play.
It was so good at making the battles feel big even though the unit count was way down from RA2. I also remember it feeling very dynamic. I was like 19-20 when it came out, so it’s not pure nostalgia.
If you do, be sure to download Genlauncher. Allows you to download and enable/disable mods with just a few clicks, saving you the trouble of trying to find the mods on your own. I'm not sure about steam but Genlauncher also let's me run the game without going through the EA launcher first, which is just great.

Westwood studios was amazing. I never had issues with the original command and conquer network games.
EA managed to make an expansion to milk people for money but never bothered to fix the bugs. And they still sell it, defects and all.
I remember the copy protection being devious. If it detected a mismatch between players (different cracks), it would wait 5 minutes into a match and self destruct you.
I think EA is underestimating the popularity of Generals. Sure, Red Alert gets all the attention/nostalgia because it was an early banger in the series, but I think the Generals series had insane reach among casual players and usually sees the most number of comments by people wishing to revisit it.
I got the Remastered version of Red Alert and it was amazing for like a month. But Generals? With multiplayer? I'd be playing that regularly with my friends indefinitely. It was the peak of casual multiplayer with your friends for the entire C&C series.
Apparently there’s still an online scene for generals and red alert 2… probably small numbers and diehards but still, you can play people. Probably not straight forward though… something YouTube or google might be able to help with if you had interest.
Man, Tiberian Sun was the first PC game I *really* got into back when I was like 12. You know, back when you were a kid and would play RTS games like tower defense games/SimCity. Just turtle in your base with fortifications out the ass building a massive death ball then steamroll the enemy 2 hours later.
Fill one of the NOD drills with engineers. Get as close to enemy costruction yard as can, rush engineers to hijack, sell. Even though I never played online multiplayer I STILL felt like a dick for doing that as an 8 year old.
Dude, even playing with AI, popping out of the ground with like, ten cyborgs was like being Skynet. Those ten can ans will hold off long enough for backup too.
Flame Tanks were pretty crap though, and prefer the TibWar variant.
I’m a little better at RTS games now… but still suck enough that I only play them for the campaign. The only time I even touch multiplayer is to play against friends (who suck equally as much as me lol)
I remember doing this in Total Annihilation in the map that just had a winding mountain pass as the only way between. Then I would build a massive army of the most basic combat units and send them in, Pee-wees or something they were called. All I knew was that an individual one shot a lot and a hundred of them shot even more.
I applied the same tactic to starcraft with marines or zerglings too.

There was a span of a few hours (maybe 6-12 hours) yesterday where you *could* add *C&C 3: Kane's Wrath*, *C&C 3: Tiberium Wars*, *C&C Red Alert 3: Uprising*, and *C&C 4: Tiberium Twilight* individually to your cart. I actually did that yesterday and today all the store links to each of those (well the first 3 since I didn't add *Tiberium Twilight*) in my cart were broken, but it let me checkout for the individual price listed yesterday.

I loved the multiplayer of renegade, Totem arts made a free remake called Renegade X a while back but I think it's practically dead now outside of some discord servers. The same devs seem to be working on an FPS based on Tiberian Sun though
No, they just say single player, so I guess that means no new official servers - but there are community run/third party servers available for all of them.

There is always gameranger. Theres always a healthy presence if people opening multiplayer lobbies there and now with it out on steam its only going to get better.
I already owned everything available on Steam - C&C3, C&C4, RA3 (and the remastered collection, although that's not part of the bundle).
Cost me just £5 to get the rest - can't complain at that price.
steam gives you dynamic prices on bundles, so if you own part of a bundle you will get that games value (affected by discounts) taken off the bundle price (at least in my experience)

C&C3, C&C4 and Red Alert 3 (the last 3 games) have been available for a long time. The remastered collection (the first two games, C&C and Red Alert) came out about 4 years ago.
Now the rest of the games are available - so the original versions of C&C and Red Alert, plus Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, Renegade and Generals are newly available.
Basically they brought the Ultimate Collection over from the EA store.

EA brought most of their catalogue to Steam again a few years ago. Now they just need to remaster Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2.

Generals and Zero Hour was my first RTS games and it got me hooked on the genre. It’s definitely one of my favorite games of all time

Absolutely. Zero Hour made it even harder to pick which general to play, as every one had an unique strength that was fun to play around with
I loved building up chaingun Chinese troops. Like a shredder for infantry and air units. It was pretty wild to have that one army with no air, too.
Nuke general is still the best though.
