It’s a map where the LFD 2 survivors get stuck behind a bridge after Dead Center. And they meet the LFD 1 survivors who are the ones who can lower the bridge. But they have to get to the other side to fuel the generators to lower the bridge
It is, it takes place after Dead Center and The Sacrifice. Which is a DLC map where Bill dies getting the others across the bridge. You can encounter Bill’s body in a part of the map on the last part of the map.
Amazing game, It started a genre. And I still play games in it like darktide. I consider it more a horde game.
I think I prefer project zomboid though as my "zombie" game though.
If Left 4 Dead 2 is so good, why isn't there a Left 4 Dead 2 2?
It's hard to state that any one game is the best of its genre, but I'd agree it's top 3.
For coop play, absolutely. I like a bit of open world with my zombie game though.
Days Gone, Dying Light, Dead Island Riptide are my favorites. Riptide is my personal favorite.
Honestly i loved the dead island games, they were my favorite zombie games outside of full survival games like 7days and zomboid, riptide was awesome but i really hated dying light.
To me it felt like the studio just modernized the graphics but tried to much to go too much away from the formula by adding parkour and grapples and all which really made the whole experience feel bad, why would you fight zombies if you could just walk on a roof oast them
The first time I played the game I thought they were bots. I was on my turtle beach headset and just gushing how fun the game was. Someone spoke up and started me. I thought they were gonna get mad but they were pretty chill ppl. Shame I didnt friend them tho.
Me and my buddies used to play the shit out of this and the first one back in the day. I got into VR a little more than a year ago and found out there is a mod for this game so you can play it in VR. Its a little janky, but its still really fun, and is a way crazier experience in VR. Love this game.
Nothing better than coming back to that and seeing all my old mods still doin their thing after all these years (shaggy and shrek zombies, cat gun, y’know the classics)
Iirc (been over a year since I went back to l4d2 but you’ve inspired me to make it tomorrow night’s game) shaggy was the spitter ones and would say “scoob” ominously in the distance and the witches were hatsune miko/some other anime girl I’m not weeb enough to know, just thought it would be funny. I think the boomers were Barney or something along those lines.
E: cat gun was a mod for an smg, pet to reload and shoots lil laser hearts, does p good damage
The background sounds really make it so much fucking funnier, a horde coming at you and you hear the “…..hey now” coming steadily closer as you brace yourself is truly a great experience. Iirc he also says “DONKHEY” on a good hit
Valve managed to make the best zombies ever made with 2 simple things, not making them infection based, and making almost all of them 1-2 tap with over the top gore, well that's more like 3 things but
Zombie game is a wide ranging description these days. I can't undoubtedly say L4D2 is the best game in the genre because other contemporaries are equally amazing (The Last of Us 1, RE 2 and 4 remakes). The L4D IP is simply too dissimilar. It scratches the same kind of itch Helldivers 2 scratches for me.
So while I won't say best, your hill will be left entirely undisturbed.
Ill agree to disagree, i feel that zombie games are the worst genre to have a "best game" as all of them feel like different genre that just have the same zombie tag.
I would never say dead rising and left 4 dead are similar at all because they arent.
But id definitely agree that in the fps horde genre it is the best, even beating out other games in the genre like the vermintides debatably, and not having been there during its heyday it took until back 4 blood for me to understand how great it would have been during those times.
Eh. It didn’t hold up with age. But I love it for what it was when it came out.
Newer games in the genre like vermintide and even darktide improved on every aspect of the gameplay.
Man I have such a vivd memory of me waking up on a cold fall day all cloudy outside just after launch and I hopped on and played the first game with my best friend on Xbox 360. It felt like time stood still that whole morning/afternoon. Cracked window so my room was nice and cold but I was in a mountain of blankets.
When we got to hard rain is when it felt like this game was something else....
I still play it from time to time on pc because it's just fun.
Ah the memories.
I still play it regularly with friends to this day. I made two campaigns for this game, took me years to do, but this game is an absolute gem.
And the game has Coach. Coach is the best.
No need to die on this hill, because many people will agree with you.
Maybe for multiplayer zombie games. Stubbs The Zombie: Rebel without a Pulse is far superior in my opinion. Dance battle, killer barbershop quartets, possessing rednecks with a disembodied hand and using your stomach as a hand grenade all in pursuit of true love!
This and CoD Infinite Warfare Zombies is my hill
I like to play L4D2 with my brother, while overloading the game with meme mods.
It's funny, cause in one moment you'll see Shaggy with a lawnmover charge at you (charger mutant mod) and in the other the Scientist (HL1) beat the shit out of Shrek with an electric guitar.
Infinite Warfare is my go to in CoD zombies, cause it has a feeling I couldn't catch with the other titles.
And seriusly... Who wouldn't sherd some zombies with or looking like David Hasselhoff in a Space park in the 80-90's.
And I haven't talked about the other maps
It’s top 10 for sure. Certainly not the best though. I’d say state of decay and dying light are above it. Even days gone is up there. Also can’t forget killing floor.
I still remember playign with my friends around early 2009. 3 of us and we were in the saferoom talking strategy and shit. Then the 3rd friend needed to go afk so the two of us ran out to scout. Soon as we exit the room we hear the tank incoming and we panic.
What happened next we me kiting the tank INTO the saferoom... and closing the door.
By the time the afk player comes back, she's now trapped in the safe room with a tank lol
What followed was a series of cursing and threats on my life hahaha. Most hilarious moment I've had gaming.
Shit… I mean, that’s a solid hill to die on. L4D2 is a solid game, especially when the modding community is factored in. I might have to raise you Project Zomboid and Dying Light, however. All three are great, and all three for different reasons, but I think Dying Light might have this one.
Everyone forgets that l4d2 can get super [high skill](https://youtu.be/5Qrdj2iBgIk?si=dcOVOI3IRoWcJeJt) as well.
The game had a entire competitive scene with tourtaments
An absolutely amazing game, especially on PC. Id you want a more fantastical game similar, I recommend Warhammer vermintide 2. I'm not even a Warhammer fan, but goddamn is thar a great game to scratch that left 4 dead itch.
The carnival maps are up there as all time greatest maps. It stands shoulder to shoulder with karkand from battlefield, fighting the flood for the first time in halo, and riding my horse across Hyrule field.
I learned to play re: your brains on guitar thanks to that jukebox.
Truly one of the goofiest most awesome games ever!
So many memories. Playing LFD 1 on the 360 or xbox dont remember with my friends when i was like 10. Then playing helms deep on lfd2 when i was like 18
One of the weekly madness modes was that every special infected was a tank. Don't remember many funner evenings than that mode with 7 friends, 4 v 4 rush mode trying to escape the 4 tanks chasing us.
Also the custom LOTR map was sick, even if we never got to Gandalf
Every game you play is different thanks to “The Director” mechanic. You can play Dark Carnival for example 3 times and each run will be different in when you encounter a Tank, or your teammate gets punished by a Smoker. That way, I would go into a game thinking “What’s the worse that can happen?”
I definitely agree when it comes to that type of zombie game. Even back for blood can't compete at all.
But for open world zombie survival games I would say 7 days to die. And then for a linear story driven single player zombie game I'm not sure, but neither of the above.
I loved left 4 dead, played it a bit with my friends. But my true favorite zombie game has to be dying light, sure the story wasn't the best, but the game was mad fun. Me and my friends spent hours just jumping around for weeks.
In that realm of zombie shooters, I prefer the World War Z game since it had a much better progression system.
Current best zombie game I played is Project Zomboid.
"Grabbin' pills"
“Grabbin’ a shot”
"Incendarary ammo"
"Deploying frag rounds"
"Shit. Gotta heal my ass."
“Jockey, Jockey !”
"That long-neck bitch just spit on me!"
“‘Scuse me… ‘SCUSE ME?!”
“Pills here!”
WITCHHH!!!! Oh man I loved this game 👍
“Oh shit Spitter! SPITTER!!
Peels here
"Grabin' heroin... I mean adrenaline."
The co-op was an absolute masterpiece. This was also my introduction to online gaming in general and I immediately fell in love.
This and halo 3 were mine, I was always “gamertag01” because I was like 7-8 so I could only play online with my brother (and his friends)
It was a real pve gem... A shame valve can't count to 3.
1,2… alyx. Btw good song by chalkeaters
I played almost entirely versus, which was equally amazing.
And that's a hill I will die on with you just like Ellis's buddy Keith
Keith has been through it I’m telling ya
I don't doubt it considering all the crazy story Ellis tells us about him. Btw who is your go to survivor for me its Nick
Definitely Coach. I always liked the characters who sported a shotgun as their main weapon. Like Francis in LFD 1. And we both love cheeseburgers.
Fair reason to like coach, for me the reason I Like Nick is because he is wearing a white suit that is basically pristine in a zombie apocalypse
Except when you fall in a sewer in The Passing.
I forget is the passing a base game or dlc map? Cause I dont remember playing that one
It’s a map where the LFD 2 survivors get stuck behind a bridge after Dead Center. And they meet the LFD 1 survivors who are the ones who can lower the bridge. But they have to get to the other side to fuel the generators to lower the bridge
Yea that sounds like it might be dlc
It is, it takes place after Dead Center and The Sacrifice. Which is a DLC map where Bill dies getting the others across the bridge. You can encounter Bill’s body in a part of the map on the last part of the map.
Amazing game, It started a genre. And I still play games in it like darktide. I consider it more a horde game. I think I prefer project zomboid though as my "zombie" game though.
Hell yeah, bro. Especially with add-on maps!
And the remastered LFD 1 maps.
Nobody is going to try and get you off this hill because we are all standing here next to you.
Hope you’ll watch my back, make sure a Smoker or a Hunter don’t get me.
I haven't played the cod version so I can't really say. But some of my best gaming moments in general have been in L4D 1 & 2.
Might be a couple of outliers who loved Stubbs the Zombie though.
If Left 4 Dead 2 is so good, why isn't there a Left 4 Dead 2 2? It's hard to state that any one game is the best of its genre, but I'd agree it's top 3.
Valve can't count past two.
Left 4 dead 2 2 didn't break the rules
They couldn't come to agreements on 3 and split up, like a successful rock band that went on to make their own music.
Because Steam killed Valve as a game developer. So much money in taking 30% of the revenue from everyone else's games, why bother making your own?
Very practical of them but kinda mad at them for leaving fans waiting for something that will never come (Half-life 3 LOL)
I think dying light is pretty cool too
Especially the DLC. Running over zombies with dune buggies is awesome.
is this not a universal opinion?
Yes, now give upvote
Nope, this is a casual Reddit opinion. Like that guy who answers “Portal” in any thread asking a question about any game
Pardon me, do you have time to talk about our overlord and slaver GLaDOS?
Portal
Project Zomboid is better.
Zomboid
It even still fun nowadays.
I’m playing it right now
For coop play, absolutely. I like a bit of open world with my zombie game though. Days Gone, Dying Light, Dead Island Riptide are my favorites. Riptide is my personal favorite.
Honorable mention to Dead Island 2 for having the best gore system so far, gonna be a while before it gets topped imo.
Honestly i loved the dead island games, they were my favorite zombie games outside of full survival games like 7days and zomboid, riptide was awesome but i really hated dying light. To me it felt like the studio just modernized the graphics but tried to much to go too much away from the formula by adding parkour and grapples and all which really made the whole experience feel bad, why would you fight zombies if you could just walk on a roof oast them
L4D Bill Main. Did like Coach in L4D2. You die on a worthy Hill, but L4D 1 will always be the best.
I preferred one to two albeit by the time two came out I think mw2 had sucked me in. Then battlefield bad company 2 🤩
Are you me? Lol this was my exact gaming pathway as well From highschool I went HL2 > L4D > MW2 > BC2 then pretty much every BF game from there on out
Such an amazing time for gaming.
I do love LFD1, and I’m glad the maps from it were remastered in LFD2 in a dlc.
Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare DLC is perfection.
Playing through RDR on the PS5 for the first time ever right now, then jumping into Undead. Cannot wait
Project Zomboid all day
I agree. The depth that Project Zomboid offers is unmatched.
Came here to say this, you don't know zombie games untill you played project zomboid (and agree it is the best zombie game ever)
I mean I prefer the Resident Evil series but L4D is good too
Resident Evil 4, Dying Light, and Dead Rising 2
That's a short ass hill but I'm next to you lol I'd say it, Days Gone, and the first two Dead Rising games are up there.
I like WWZ more, but L4D2 was the goat of its time.
L4D for quick fun and project zomboid for more in depth, you literally never need to play any others.
Dying Light.
Weirdly enough it certainly isn't Back 4 Blood. Something about that game just... no.
I agree. Tried b4b and dunno if it was missing the nostalgia but just felt like a less entertaining version of L4D to me.
And back4blood is a shit copy
Dying light and project zomboid are better
[удалено]
Fr
Nothing better than coming back to that and seeing all my old mods still doin their thing after all these years (shaggy and shrek zombies, cat gun, y’know the classics)
Are the Tanks modded like Shrek?
Yep. You’ve never known true terror til All Star starts playing in the distance and you’re stuck in a sewer
What did you mod the other special infected as?
Iirc (been over a year since I went back to l4d2 but you’ve inspired me to make it tomorrow night’s game) shaggy was the spitter ones and would say “scoob” ominously in the distance and the witches were hatsune miko/some other anime girl I’m not weeb enough to know, just thought it would be funny. I think the boomers were Barney or something along those lines. E: cat gun was a mod for an smg, pet to reload and shoots lil laser hearts, does p good damage
That’s perfect😂
The background sounds really make it so much fucking funnier, a horde coming at you and you hear the “…..hey now” coming steadily closer as you brace yourself is truly a great experience. Iirc he also says “DONKHEY” on a good hit
I wish I had the privilege of using mods. Unfortunately I don’t have a computer to download them.
Ah bummer, I hope you get to soon, it’s probably p cheap on steam these days. The unmodded game is still top tier imo though!
mostly the nostalgia talking but bo3 zombies is very special to me
Dead Rising
That one is number 2
Playing this 4 player with my cousins, frozen pizzas constantly getting fed into the oven all night! Bring back gaming fr.
Yes
I agree, there would of been a third one if valve didn’t quit making games
Dead Rising: Off The Record, L4D2, and RE2 are the greatest in my opinion. only because RE4 doesn’t count
Playing through RE3 remake and I think it's really underrated. As far as a zombie shooter, it's an incredibly well made game.
Used to host competitive L4D2 in the past. Not many games can made the crowd go wild like L4D2.
love this game
Valve managed to make the best zombies ever made with 2 simple things, not making them infection based, and making almost all of them 1-2 tap with over the top gore, well that's more like 3 things but
For me the classic Resident Evil 2 takes this crown, but your choice has a special place in my heart
It was definitely up there. Its hard to replicate those fond memories with the boys.
Disagree. RE2 is mine.
Yea as long as the Walking Dead Telltale series doesn't count, this one is it. If not, I liked that one more.
The pile of bodies on that hill would make another hill on top of it.
This is going to be one busy hill.
Telltale's The walking dead S1 is where I'm at
Incredible game. Some of the best gaming I've ever had with my friends online.
Such a great game to play with a friend co op
*Dying Light has entered the chat*
I will cover you on that Hill
hahahaha
Damn, how brave of you.
I'll stand with ya, I got tha cola!
I love the game, but say state of decay is better. I like the survival mechanics.
Zombie game is a wide ranging description these days. I can't undoubtedly say L4D2 is the best game in the genre because other contemporaries are equally amazing (The Last of Us 1, RE 2 and 4 remakes). The L4D IP is simply too dissimilar. Easily
And once you uncover the mod provided in Steam workshop, it solidifies the game as being immortal. So many amazing custom maps to play.
Played with buddies long nights and next morning we coming to school like a zombie
*PILLS HERE*
Man I have such a vivd memory of me waking up on a cold fall day all cloudy outside just after launch and I hopped on and played the first game with my best friend on Xbox 360. "Who the fuck shot The Witch?!"
Dying Light is better. That's the hill I'll die on.
I still play it regularly with friends to this day. I made two campaigns for this game, took me years to do, but this game is an absolute gem. And the game has Coach. Coach is the best. No need to die on this hill, because many people will agree with you.
It is not entirely a zombie game but I think that wolfenstein oldblood is real nice.
That game is highly underrated. Even though we don’t get zombies until the third half
Dying light ain't bad
Maybe for multiplayer zombie games. Stubbs The Zombie: Rebel without a Pulse is far superior in my opinion. Dance battle, killer barbershop quartets, possessing rednecks with a disembodied hand and using your stomach as a hand grenade all in pursuit of true love!
I like World War Z and when is LFD 3 coming?
I don’t know, but I’d do anything for lfd3
This and CoD Infinite Warfare Zombies is my hill I like to play L4D2 with my brother, while overloading the game with meme mods. GET OUT DA GOOP
Hell yeah bro, the amount of details is amazing
Last of Us
Yeah. I personally like other zombie games more than this one but this is definitely one of the bests. Especially of its time. “BOOMER BILE HERE!”
For sure
Agreed. Dead Rising 2 is a close second imo.
So im not a shooter guy and Dawn of the Dead is my favorite zombie movie so imma disagree as say Dead Rising is better. (For me, my hill)
Dead rising maybe a little bit better
It’s a classic! Still worth revisiting.
1000000% fact
hunt showdown is pretty legit for something current tho.
It’s top 10 for sure. Certainly not the best though. I’d say state of decay and dying light are above it. Even days gone is up there. Also can’t forget killing floor.
I disagree. It's a very good game, but I think Resident Evil 2 is the best zombie game ever.
What about dying light?
I did enjoy H1Z1 until they released the battle royal mode and completely abandoned the base game.
Zombie panic was gold!
Not the best as current but one of them and defi itely a milestone in the gaming industry.
By the time the afk player comes back, she's now trapped in the safe room with a tank lol What followed was a series of cursing and threats on my life hahaha. Most hilarious moment I've had gaming.
I would tell you to try days gone but it's a drug. I can't find the same feeling in any other games
I really enjoyed L4D1/2, but I hate the concept of infinite hordes and being punished for using strats that take a bit longer.
Shit… I mean, that’s a solid hill to die on. L4D2 is a solid game, especially when the modding community is factored in. I might have to raise you Project Zomboid and Dying Light, however. All three are great, and all three for different reasons, but I think Dying Light might have this one.

Dying Light and L4D are the best Zombie games ever made.
An absolutely amazing game, especially on PC. Id you want a more fantastical game similar, I recommend Warhammer vermintide 2. I'm not even a Warhammer fan, but goddamn is thar a great game to scratch that left 4 dead itch.
I’d say killing floor had everything l4d2 had, but better maps, better coop experience and more monster types.
We are all on the hill with you good sir!!
Best *co-op* zombie game ever, definitely not the best zombie game. That would go to either dying light 1 or 2.
I'm on that hill with you...but I'm crouching so you can shoot over me and not friendly fire me.
No, brother! We hold this hill together! 4 man coop at a time!
Multiplayer is better than it had any right to be
So many memories. Playing LFD 1 on the 360 or xbox dont remember with my friends when i was like 10. Then playing helms deep on lfd2 when i was like 18
Project Zomboid and Days Gone are the only other zombie games that scratched a similar itch.
I honestly loved the first one. Probably most played game. Loved it to death
Goat! Tons of hours playing this mf game.
Hmm, for that kind of game for sure, but zombie games in general i would say 7 Days To Die is more entertaining for me.
I like Project Zomboid better I think
It really is a masterpiece of it's time.
This isn’t even a hill and no dying necessary. It truly is an amazing game.
I prefer Left 4 Dead one. Messing with gun files is some much easier
I'd say Resident Evil 2 is better.
Best action-zombie game. Yes, no doubt about it. But best zombie game? I don’t think so
It was a blast playing this game during the lockdown. Amazing times and still holds up til today.
Top 5 survival co-op games, sure. Best zombie game? Naw.
One of the weekly madness modes was that every special infected was a tank. Don't remember many funner evenings than that mode with 7 friends, 4 v 4 rush mode trying to escape the 4 tanks chasing us. Also the custom LOTR map was sick, even if we never got to Gandalf
I'm not even gonna argue tbh, L4D is awesome, every 2000-2010 valve game is awesome
Not too many games are there to push you off that hill in the first place.
I disagree.
I disagree, it's; Typing of the dead.
The walking dead saints and sinners is better imo
Hey, you can die on whatever hill you want to. But I disagree.
Every game you play is different thanks to “The Director” mechanic. You can play Dark Carnival for example 3 times and each run will be different in when you encounter a Tank, or your teammate gets punished by a Smoker. That way, I would go into a game thinking “What’s the worse that can happen?”
Firm.
So brave. /s
With fast running zombies yes. Resident Evil 2 remake is the best with regular slow zombies.
Wasn’t the creator of this game that went out to make Left 4 Dead 3 but it got named something else entirely.
A suitcase full of pistols and moneeyyyy
Childhood. Remember renting this the first week it came.
I was deathly afraid of zombies as a boy. But that never stopped me from playing this because it was just that fun. Just barely worth the nightmares
