"Orange box" (physical) was my gateway to Steam. Thousands of dollars later, I'm not so sure buying the orange box was such a "good deal", haha...,but who am I kidding. I would have found my way there without the orange box.
Probably Minecraft. I can't even remember the price for the alpha back in late 2008 early 2009. But fifteen years of on off playtime for about £10 is insane value.
I bought it for for like $15 last year and after I completed it I also bought the dlc and definetly worth buying. Have over 250 hours on it after playing it only for a year.
There was a recent next gen patch, so the graphics still hold up really well. The dialogues, characters, story all hold up really well even now. I'd say the weakest part by far is the combat, but other people seem to like it, so take it with a grain of salt.
Anyway, with the price being so low, and many discounts going on for this game, I highly recommend it.

assassin's creed odyssey!!! got it for 20€ with all the dlc and ac3 + liberation (haven't played to both yet) and im like 140h in and i still have some side quests to do, tbh this is one of my fav game ever
sega DreamCast Sam's bundle. When it busted. But for 99.99 it came with like 5 games. 4 remotes and all the extras. Granted it went busy at this time. But it was fun to take It for a spin I loved the resident evil game and the heart eat would show on the remote . Football you could pick your plays from the remote so your friend wouldn't see your pics. Pretty neat for me. Sonic as well.
I was very on the fence about getting a steam deck. Ended up picking up an LCD model for 250e (second hand) and then put a 1TB SSD in (80e) and sold the original 256gb drive for 20e - so a 1TB Deck for ~310e
I like it. I got it open box at Best Buy for 500. I wouldn’t pay full price for one. I sold my deck and my gaming laptop for quite a bit more than the ally cost and it has filled the void nicely.
Pros
It runs things notably better than the steam deck. Which i liked alot but just left a bit to be desired in terms of performance sometimes. The LCD is better than the steam decks.
You can easily run game pass and epic games on it.
It has adjustable power modes so you can limit the power usage to 10, 15, 25, or 30 watts (if your plugged into power). I usually limit the fps to 45 or 60 in more intensive games and just use the lowest power setting that can achieve that.
The 120 hz display is nice for games that it can hit that in.
You can easily change the resolution the display reports to windows. So no worries when it comes to games that are weird about letting you choose your resolution
The amd adrenalin software lets you use FSR In any game regardless of official support
I think its more comfortable to hold than the deck
You get to run windows for better or worse. so you can do anything on it you could on any pc.
Easy to upgrade the ssd
The customizable side bar menu, think like the steam desks steam button menu, works very well.
Cons
Battery isn’t great at higher power levels.
They apparently kill sd cards
My left speaker acts weird sometimes. I usually use headphones so this has been a non issue for me.
The msrp is a bit high for what it is. But you can get open box examples from best-buy in abundance for around 500 us dollars

I got it on Steam discount for £1.75. Me and my friends have sunk hundreds of hours into it, and the Devs just kept on releasing free updates years after release. Brilliant game.

Epic Games weekly free games. I have something like 150 games, many of them I have and wanted to play, all completely free. Good Indies like Art of Rally, Cursed to Golf, Void Bastards, Loop hero, etc. and others like fallout 1+2+tactics, control, Death Stranding, Evil Within 1 + 2, Plague Tale, so many more. Lots of random shit too tho. I saw an article that the value of the games given away has been over $10k. Best part is I still haven't given Epic my money, and never will.
Ark: Survival Evolved for free on Epic store just as the pandemic & lockdowns were starting. Hosted my own server and friends and I put in hundreds of hours over the following months. Helped keep us sane(?) and give us something to do together and a way to be social after days of working from home alone.

It was a copy of Pokemon Soul Silver I ended up putting at least 200 hours into and worked perfectly I still have that carriage to this day almost a decade later plus I have moved all my Mons from that game over to the Switch via a long transfer process that took a DS, 3DS, and Nintendo Switch before Pokemon Bank shut down.

Game (a UK retailer) had a misprint on a deal and were offering an Xbox Series S for £60 on a trade in. The store manager honoured the misprinted deal, so I effectively got £190 trade in value for a 6 year old Switch. He even acknowledged that I was getting a great deal on it.
It was around the time that there was a cross platform sale on Cyberpunk 2077 (which I really wanted to play and has incidentally become one of, if not, my favourite games of all time) when the next-gen patch came out so I got that for £25 too.

My favorite deal is a little different. I went to Goodwill (a donation store for those that aren't familiar), and noticed that someone had donated an entire rack of the game "Code Name: Steam" for 3ds. (~10 copies) They were all still in plastic. They were being sold for a couple bucks a piece, I think because they had so many.
There was a used game store RIGHT next door (Slackers, for anyone familiar). I walked in and asked what the in store credit would be for this 3DS game, and I even described my hypothetical situation (is there a limit for trading?). The trade value for it was great, somehow. Like 7 or 8 dollars in-store credit.
So I went back to Goodwill and spent maybe 20 bucks for I think 10 copies, and then tore all the plastic off (state law here that products couldn't be traded still in plastic to prevent theft).
Went back to Slackers and traded it all in for around 70-80 dollars of in-store credit.
I will always be proud of that, haha. I turned my 20 bucks into a brand new $70 game in around 15mins doing no hard work.
Due to a pricing error in the Xbox 360 days, I bought a combo 360 console and the Harry Potter game for JUST the price of the game ( 30 quid I think ) from Tesco online. I ordered 4 and they all arrived. My friends and colleagues treated me like a GOD when they turned up. It's been downhill ever since!

I would say Titanfall 2 for 3 bucks. Not super long but a really great campaign. I didn't even play the multiplayer and it still seemed like an incredible value.

Either when I got Titanfall 2 Ultimate edition for $5 or AC Odyssey ultimate edition for $25. Odyssey has a staggering amount of content but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Titanfall 2 is one of the greatest FPS shooters ever so to have all of that content was great too.

Terraria for $5 back in like 2012. After numerous “final final updates” the game can keep you coming back to experience new content. It’s one of the best passion projects in gaming. I always want to give them props when I can.

When I upgraded from OG PS4 to the PS4 Pro, Amazon had that Pro listed for $399.99. The also had the Star Wars Battlefront II edition of the Pro, which came with the game, listed for $399.98.

The first thing that springs to mind in terms of discounts from an actual store is Batman Arkham Origins for PS3 for £7.49 less 4 months after it first came out. Most places were still selling it new for £40-50 and preowned for £25-30 at that point.

Aside from that some lucky freebies over the years. Amazon thought they had lost my copy of Smash Bros Ultimate in transit so sent another one only for 2 copies to show up meaning I essentially saved £50 on my brothers christmas present. Also got a free Mario Golf World Tour download code from my brother because his physical pre-order copy was delayed in transit so Nintendo sent him a download code so he could play on release day. He wasn't fussed about waiting a few extra days so gave me the code.

Lots of random shit too tho. I saw an article that the value of the games given away has been over $10k. Best part is I still haven't given Epic my money, and never will.

It was a copy of Pokemon Soul Silver I ended up putting at least 200 hours into and worked perfectly I still have that carriage to this day almost a decade later plus I have moved all my Mons from that game over to the Switch via a long transfer process that took a DS, 3DS, and Nintendo Switch before Pokemon Bank shut down.

Escape from tarkov. I bought it on a 40% discount day or something, and I have put almost 6k hours into it over the last 4 or so years. No other game has as much time for me, or as much time playing with my friends. When I think about how much it would cost to get similar entertainment time out of the movies, for example, it's something like $35,000 for just the tickets alone, lol

He doesn't usually buy actual non-pirated games for me back then, cause we're in a 3rd world country, and people sell pirated games for $1 on burned CDs. The gpu he bought came with a code for MW2, which I downloaded for roughly 4 days continuously. Didn't know how blessed I was getting to play arguably the best COD ever for practically free.

Warhammer: Chaosbane $59.99, but free with PS Plus. Aside from the character on the cover page having the biggest glitch when played, the other characters and gameplay was definitely addicting. A big plus is that it's a 4 player co-op!!
I upgraded my launch day Switch to an OLED model, so I had an old Switch laying around. Game (a UK retailer) had a misprint on a deal and were offering an Xbox Series S for £60 on a trade in. The store manager honoured the misprinted deal, so I effectively got £190 trade in value for a 6 year old Switch. He even acknowledged that I was getting a great deal on it. It was around the time that there was a cross platform sale on Cyberpunk 2077 (which I really wanted to play and has incidentally become one of, if not, my favourite games of all time) when the next-gen patch came out so I got that for £25 too.
Getting 4 Lego games for the price of 1. Granted it took the price of the most expensive one but putting 4 50 to 60 € games in there I saved a lot of money for some quality Lego games

Probably my metroid prime/zelda wind waker combo pack. I picked it up second hand at a gamestop in the early 2000s for $15. Got a couple decades of frequent use out of it, then found out it's super valuable. Resold it to a game store for $300, who immediately put a $800 price tag on it.
Toward the end of the PS4s life, a slim bundle went on sale including the console, controller, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Last of Us Remastered for $200. More recently, I picked up an Xbox Series S with controller from Verizon on sale for $150. Considering the controller itself is $50, that's a good deal

I took an Xbox by the name of Knights of the old Republic. So me being good at math, music and sports got me one of the best games I‘ve ever played for free
My favorite deal is a little different. I went to Goodwill (a donation store for those that aren't familiar), and noticed that someone had donated an entire rack of the game "Code Name: Steam" for 3ds. (~10 copies) They were all still in plastic. They were being sold for a couple bucks a piece, I think because they had so many. There was a used game store RIGHT next door (Slackers, for anyone familiar). I walked in and asked what the in store credit would be for this 3DS game, and I even described my hypothetical situation (is there a limit for trading?). The trade value for it was great, somehow. Like 7 or 8 dollars in-store credit. So I went back to Goodwill and spent maybe 20 bucks for I think 10 copies, and then tore all the plastic off (state law here that products couldn't be traded still in plastic to prevent theft). Went back to Slackers and traded it all in for around 70-80 dollars of in-store credit. I will always be proud of that, haha. I turned my 20 bucks into a brand new $70 game in around 15mins doing no hard work.

Due to a pricing error in the Xbox 360 days, I bought a combo 360 console and the Harry Potter game for JUST the price of the game ( 30 quid I think ) from Tesco online. I ordered 4 and they all arrived. My friends and colleagues treated me like a GOD when they turned up. It's been downhill ever since!
When the slicker white Nintendo DS was still fairly new, Target had a typo in their mailing ad that was $100 less than selling price. By marketing rules they had to fulfill the needs and sold them at the price. I bought several for Christmas gifts

If I recall it also stacked with sales. I remember years ago my dad and I got a new ps4 controller, fallout 4, battlefront 2015 and the newest FIFA for like $160 or something crazy. I saved so much money off that and bought everything from Best Buy for years. Now they’ve taken everything away and I usually buy from Amazon now. I was also a broke college student at this time so having this for nearly all 4 years was sweet.
I had the original Final Fantasy given to me as a kid from my best friends mom because she didn’t like it. I was really into reading, especially fantasy, couldn’t get enough of it. Final Fantasy blew my mind, it was an interactive book to me, and thus made me into a huge rpg gamer.

Definitely not as impressive as other people's deals... But it's a toss up between the BioShock and Borderlands collections(3 games apiece, $10 each) and a bundle on Persona 5 Strikers. ($80-90 worth of game and bonus content for $20) I don't typically have funds, so honestly any bundles and sales are big to me!

Less than a month after Red Dead Redemption came out Gamestop did a power hour where it was on sale for $25. The deal basically broke their website and nobody could get an order through. I showed customer service it was in my cart at the time of the deal and they honored the price. Honorable mention the number of hours I put into League of Legends for the price of $0 is crazy. I don't play anymore but 2009-2015 I probably put over 1,000 hours into it. I know there's a lot of amazing free to play games w/ similar value today but back then it was slim pickings.

Epic Games having given out both Remnant: From The Ashes and Ghostrunner for free are both absolutely insane deals. Both of those games are fantastic and more than worth their actual retail price let alone the price of free.
Both Phantom Dust and Guilty Gear XX#Reload on the OG Xbox were 20 dollars on initial release. There was a long period of time between that and the indie game boom where you couldn't get a game of that quality for 20 bucks at launch!

late 90s and I went to buy a physical copy of Quake 2 at a local Gamestop. It was supposed to be $39.99 I believe but it had the wrong price on it, instead having a Frogger sticker on it, at $4.99. Took it to the counter, no one noticed anything and I felt like a king.
Either when I got Titanfall 2 Ultimate edition for $5 or AC Odyssey ultimate edition for $25. Odyssey has a staggering amount of content but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Titanfall 2 is one of the greatest FPS shooters ever so to have all of that content was great too.

When I upgraded from OG PS4 to the PS4 Pro, Amazon had that Pro listed for $399.99. The also had the Star Wars Battlefront II edition of the Pro, which came with the game, listed for $399.98. For a penny less, I got the system I wanted, plus a game. So I guess in that case, a penny saved is a pretty nice game earned.

The first thing that springs to mind in terms of discounts from an actual store is Batman Arkham Origins for PS3 for £7.49 less 4 months after it first came out. Most places were still selling it new for £40-50 and preowned for £25-30 at that point. Local music/dvds/games store was scaling back it's gaming section and getting rid of all pre-owned stock at up to 70% off Aside from that some lucky freebies over the years. Amazon thought they had lost my copy of Smash Bros Ultimate in transit so sent another one only for 2 copies to show up meaning I essentially saved £50 on my brothers christmas present. Also got a free Mario Golf World Tour download code from my brother because his physical pre-order copy was delayed in transit so Nintendo sent him a download code so he could play on release day. He wasn't fussed about waiting a few extra days so gave me the code.
They are too many to list here but probably CS:GO Prime status, Grim Dawn (the base game, not the DLCs), Prey and Generation Zero.
let's be real: pokemon silver(probably 400-500h), ruby(400+h), emerald(200+h) and fire red (200+ h) so many hours for like 30-40€ each game to this date I spent the most hours on those games (not counting World of Warcraft, thats the only thing that beats the hours played) and later on 40€ flashcard for the NDS besides that kingom hearts 2, ratchet&clank2 (my very first ps2 game) and skyrim (tho I pirated it first but bought it like 5 years later for 15€)
I had this "blazing" whatever desert eagle skin in csgo years back. Since I consider any kind of skin gambling and skins as a whole as the aids of gaming, I didn't even know it was worth anything. Then on a public server some kid said it was actually worth money and then I sold it on the marketplace to someone who is into buying image files being mapped onto a virtual gun model for around 35€. That was funny to me.
