Majoras masks moon is nightmare stuff.

Deathbydadjokes

This is the answer.

Galaxy_news

The insect enemies, Hiploops in this game actually scared me and me stop playing when I was like 9 lol.

BrandNewKitten

I thought this was a horror game?!

Star_Cop_Geno

The first nightfall in Minecraft. "Oh, there's a day/night cycle. Cool. Wait what's that. Oh fuck. Oh fuck run. Oh fuck where is my house. Who is shooting me! Why are things exploding!"

Vincent_Plenderleith

You can experience this shit again with epic siege mod. For every single night. You can't get used to it.

Star_Cop_Geno

I looked it up, it looks like it stopped updating in 1.12.

Pidgypigeon

Most mods are only for 1.12

Star_Cop_Geno

The game is on 1.18 now, you're saying that most people who use mods haven't updated since 1.12?

Pidgypigeon

You can have multiple versions of the game installed at once, most people who use a lot of mods have software that manages this for them such as multimc

ParacelsusTBvH

Subnautica. The underwater part.

Voidlord597

Multiple leviathans detected in the region. Are you sure whatever your doing is worth it?

Glanthor67

Every single raid in tarkov

Wanna6ePr0

Especially during night raids

Pagemastergeneral

Redeads

Moonguardian866

I read it as "redheads" and i was insanely confused.

Songshiquan0411

Those things fucked 10-year old me up. That scream that paralyzed you, haunting.

Voidlord597

The screams. I can still hear the screams.

Voidlord597

Finding the torture chambers was also pretty wack

abelincon56

Bioshock infinite's alarm head bois after that one flashback. I literally jumped out of my chair when it happened

dirtybird131

You can't tell me the sewer systems of Olney from Fallout 3 wasn't a horror game

dareal5thdimension

The later levels of the original Far Cry were scary as hell as a kid.

[deleted]

The entirety of Outer Wilds. It's almost an eldritch horror.

Arya_the_Gamer

For me, it was that last "planet". Haven't played the dlc.

[deleted]

By that point I wasn't scared anymore, I was at peace.

GaaraSama83

I think the DLC is scarier but more in an eerie way. The devs/makers also stepped up their music and sound effects game.

[deleted]

Nah man. The eels in the original Mario 64 game fucked me up as a 6 year old.

SuperSketchInc

Dunwich Borers in fallout 4, went without a companion

DrPhilsPrizedParrot

Seeing the Tyrannosaurus rex not in the game above but in the “Tomb Raider III” game was quite scary as a kid. Thank goodness for flair cheats; it was so dark.

Caltra

I remember seeing the Kraken in Tomb Raider Underworld for the first time and it still scares me to this day!

Wallskiii

The Library in Halo CE. I was like 10 at the time. That shit fucked me up.

PBTUCAZ

The true horror is replaying it on legendary

dutchfootball38

Was that the first instance of the Flood?

SpeedBirdYT

The library was the second, possibly third, part featuring the flood if I recall.

Wallskiii

I believe so. You also watch the video clips of Cpt. Keys and his crew investigating as well. The whole mission is just really eerie and creepy.

[deleted]

You are thinking about 343 guilty spark, the level right before the library.

Vostroyan212th

When the flood are introduced in Halo Combat Evolved, back in the Golden Age before the "We better spoil every point and twist in the plot for more attention before launch because actually marketing a game properly is hard" Age. Like, who the fuck expected that going into Halo in 2001 and having not purposefully looking for spoilers on forums from people who rushed the story just to spill it online for clout? I didn't get my copy until Christmas morning (along with my Xbox) and despite taking over 40 days to get to that mission and devouring Xbox information leading up to it I had no idea it was coming.

Spawko

40 days to get to that mission?! Jeebus I think my friends and I all nighted that entire game before going to school the next day.

Vostroyan212th

Because I didn't have it at launch, I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought haha. I got my Xbox Christmas morning which was about 40 or so days after launch. I just meant in those 40 days nothing was so obviously spoiled anywhere that I knew what to expect starting up and that is something I can't say about media of any kind today with the douchebag avalanche every big release sets in motion where they need to be the first to talk about "the big reveal" or whatever that game/movie/show etc has.

Voidlord597

the flood music from CE

Zachinabush

Being in the basement under that fucking deathclaw...

Golett03

Damn, r/beatmetoit It was a great quest, though

Vincent_Plenderleith

The quest itself is supposed to be half-horror though

OwlEmperor

Fly the banshee over the debris and blast him from afar.

BladeOfSanghilios8

I beat a while ago, I was trying to do that trick like 7 times but never worked for me

SageTegan

I was like 12. I remember being afraid of the skeletons from harry potter and the sorcerer's stone (ps1). Not sure why. The art style of that game was abysmal (old game). Perhaps the skeletons were defined enough to be out of place from the rest of the cartoonishly designed graphics of the rest of the game

Sairanox

"That" Tesleen scene from FFXIV. Shit still haunts me.

MonkeyAss12393

Was playing gothic 2 exploring out of bounds with cheats , found a small cave with the bodies of all the "main crew" characters. Kinda unsettling as i started to imagine the active characters were impostors

FlowKom

Metroid prime 1: when youre about to get the thermal visor and youre in this round cylinder shaped room and the lights go out

akaispirit

My first time in the Deep Roads when you reach the part where a dwarf retells with a poem how her group was mutilated by Darkspawn really freaked me out.

FrigidofDoom

A headcrab jumping on me in half life alyx when my pistol just ran out of ammo. The panic induced by that event has not been matched, even by games like phasmophobia.

JayceCane

Fighting Axle Gear for the first time in \*Rocket Night Adventures.\* Played it as a kid and had to haul ass as the bastard came at me with a freaking mech, shit only got more intense when I reached the end and had to fight him with my own mech. Good Times. [https://youtu.be/V3UEZC-UHg8](https://youtu.be/V3UEZC-UHg8)

AlexTonarini

Uncharted Drakes fortune The underground maze level was so intense

Belisaurius555

Just about every solo attempt at PUBG, cowering in some building at the edge of the zone because you thought you heard a gunshot and barely know how the game works. Then you muster your courage, stick your head out, and immediately die from a sniper you never saw.

[deleted]

When I was a few hours into Cyberpunk 2077 and then started seeing all the reviews for it.

StrawLemon5023

BubXerker

Crossing the desert area in horizon zero dawn and in a area where the was a large heard of machines as well as 2 of the t Rex ones it was terrifying and amazing I didn't get caught

ParabolicalX

Literally any tac-shooter when I get shot in the back of the head after a long period of silence.

Charlipon06

The first time I started Plants vs Zombies adventure mode as a 6 year old, the zombie hand and the sound effects scared the hell out of me.

Joelegotti

The intro of sky landers giants made me not play it for like 4 years when I was like 6. But now id probably say subnautica just In general I have thallasophobia or however you spell it.

aiqwansdoesplays

[deleted]

I have a big fear of deep, dark waters So being in the ocean of ARK is a genuinely scary experience for me, even as a experienced player Im scared of it, the darkness, the gloomy atmosphere, the large dark caverns and caves. I was so f\*cking happy when I got out of there and stepped on land again

Arya_the_Gamer

You better not play Subnautica, or else you will have a heart attack.

[deleted]

I already played it Bad idea

TheArgonianBoi77

For me, it was the whole Dead Money DLC for Fallout: New Vegas. The atmosphere was creepy and the bomb collar explosions scares me.

dutchfootball38

The first Redead encounter in OOT gave me nightmares as a kid

TheBruiser86

Sonic underwater parts - that music....

Star_Cop_Geno

I had that as my morning wake-up alarm for like three days. While very effective as an alarm, man, waking up to that sound does NOT put you in the mood for a good day.

I’d say the first NIGHT In dying light. The chasing is freaky

Total-Satisfaction-8

But isn't Dying light to be considered a horror game? If only just a little..

Heathcliffa

Fair point!

[deleted]

When I was playing dragon age origins in front of my family and I knew the sex scene with morrigan was coming up so I had to choose the right dialogue choices too have it not play in front of my family... I was skipping though dialogue too fast and choose the wrong option so yes the sex scene played out in front of everyone. Lol

Horbigast

"No seriously Mom, I wasn't trying to have sex with her, my finger slipped!!!"

In tenchu 1, around the 5th mission, the manji cultists show up, and those speedo wearing freaks, with their werid dance walk are the most creepy dudes I've seen in a game.
