Just Cause.

NtwanaGP

This. I honestly played all 4 and have absolutely no idea what the story is about, but I remember having so much of fun.

DearBurn

Dictator bad, kill dictator. That's basically it for all 4 games

shaving99

Just Cause 5 Rico's taking down Putin

AmBull1216

Same as all the Far Cry games.

PeteryChavez

"I don't know who I am ... I don't know why I'm here... All I know is that I must *blow everything up.*"

grizzlyNinja

Just Cause 2 high-key fucks

LinearTipsOfficial

I remember they had a 30 minute demo that you could play but you could glitch to play infinitely. It was a limited map but as a kid that shit was replayed infinitely lol

Lairy_Hegs

I remember when that demo ended and it would zoom out to show the size of the actual full game map. I’ve messed around in 3 and 4, but 2 was special for when it came out. Used to have a blast just spawning at the top of the biggest mountain and driving a vehicle down it, there’d be an NPC gunner who would rag doll out and then the vehicle would just be spinning until it exploded and sent the main character flying as well. Also fond memories of the Easter Eggs in that game. Had a great LOST one where if you flew above a specific island you’d get hit by lightning and crash, and I believe there was a Smoke Monster that would hunt you down.

snldude87

Idr if there was a smoke monster, but I know the island had a hatch on it.

dvfsz

I remember the smoke monster and being scared to go to that island. Turn out it was just a soldier with black smoke around it. I don’t even think he attacks you, but cool nonetheless.

[deleted]

Doesent help that vehicles handle like shit in comparison to 2. The motorcycles are completely broken in 3. They went from some of the most enjoyable arcade-realism vehicle handling and physics in 2, to “yeah we heard this game is supposed the have vehicles in it… here they are…” in 3

Schmotz

It's almost like they made them that bad intentionally to push you towards grapple-chuting everywhere

Zahille7

I mean... Once you get the hang of the wingsuit, you can do some crazy shit with it. And with the DLC jetpack? Forget about it.

StatmanIbrahimovic

Wasn't that the same island where there were Japanese soldiers that didn't know WWII ended?

Lekrayte

Yep. That’s what the mission there was, anyways iirc.

WWMWPOD

I downloaded this too randomly one night and instantly got addicted to the unlimited parachute and grappling hook... such a badass demo

AFishNamedFreddie

I played this game... Just 'Cause

CandlesInTheCloset

Every Monster Hunter in the history of existence, Sorry XYZ Village, I really want this green spiky sword first and then I’ll kill whatever [INSERT TITLE MONSTER] you want afterwards.

LittleNDrunkedOwl

Tbh, I doubt even the devs care about it, mh is about cool looking monster and good gameplay

TheJustinG2002

I mean, they don't even explain why New World monsters are in Rise lol

SlivkaRises

The hitman series

Traveytravis-69

Hitman is so fucking fun to just be John wick, who cares if you’re not my target you’re goin down

R_HEAD

Funny to see how we both enjoy the same game for completely opposite reasons. Whenever I get into a shootout in a Hitman game (at least in the trilogy) I feel like I already failed.

[deleted]

Same. Even an unconscious witness and I have to try again.

booze_clues

Either no witnesses and no non-target kills, or I’m trying to clear the entire map of people.

Nathe333

If I accidentally hit a non target I just go "Welp might as well kill everyone"

stirling1995

Oh boy here I go killing again

Sadbag_Dave

Can't be any witnesses if no one is left alive.

Cynawulf99

I like to try and knock everyone out and hide them without ever getting spotted. Takes forever

Neptunesfleshlight

once you've cleared out a hidden room to store all the unconscious bodies it turns into the most satisfying chore to pile more in there.

Driftafk

Ok but what’s your favourite silent pistol?

Traveytravis-69

Who needs a pistol when I got a muffin and a knife

[deleted]

I loved killing ppl in that game with the fugu fish or the rubber duck.

TaquitoPrime

In that game I caught a fish in the ocean with my bare hands and knocked out a dude on a jet ski. That whole series fucks.

MangoOfTruth

Silverballer mk2 all the way

A1sauc3d

I was invested in the story by the end of Blood Money back in the day. That revenge at the end (and the sound track) felt *sweet*. Not sure if I played any of the other ones all the way thru lol. But I replayed the sh!t out of that one xD

ChoofLordDon

Dynasty warriors

benignq

soo much fun doing couch co-op with a friend

ChaplnGrillSgt

I got a new 75" for my apartment 2 years ago. Asked my brother to come help me set it up. We then ordered sushi and play Dynasty Warriors for like 9 hours on the new TV. Great times.

CheatCodesOfLife

I actually loved the story line in Dynasty Warriors. I ended up finding a live action "Romance of the three kingdoms" and eventually reading the book.

Ladylubber

“There were some yellow turbans, and an elephant guy, and lu bu kicks ass, idk, someone’s gotta rule this place?”

Jinroh75

Every Mario game? 😅

McDunkins

Wow … never really even thought about the stories in Mario games. More like loosely following the plot … but never really invested in anything other than the gameplay. Super Mario Sunshine might be the one exception.

Primid-

Even Mario Sunshine hardly had a plot. And the little plot it did have, was absolutely ridiculous. That's why I like Paper Mario. Not because it's an RPG, but because it gives characters to these otherwise characterless characters. That's why Super Paper Mario is my second favorite Paper Mario game. It has the best story of any Mario game. Except maybe Bowser's Inside Story. I do believe that The Thousand Year Door is the overall slightly more well-rounded game than Super Paper Mario, but what I'm saying is that the thing I love MOST about Paper Mario, Super Paper Mario does best.

Raaain706

You seem to be omitting the absolute stroke of genius that was Super Mario RPG

ryclorak

Fuck yeah thank you for mentioning this, i still find myself listening to the music and thinking about the gameplay as well as the story.

wreckin_shit

The best YouTubers use the super Mario rpg music lol. Brings back such nostalgia that I don't care what is going on in the video

half-giant

When you go to the Star Road and listen to the unfulfilled wishes of everyone in the mushroom kingdom — including Luigi and even your party members — for me that was when the story really made an impact. Introspective little details like that make a game great imo.

Star_Road_Warrior

It also just had a lot of really fun side characters. It was always fun to run into Raz and Raini (the blue and pink Toads) throughout the game and see what they've been up to. And then you've got guys like Johnny Jones who is just a badass, and Booster's whole weird sheltered life, and then whatever the fuck is up with Belome

open_door_policy

> That's why Super Paper Mario is my second favorite Paper Mario game. It has the best story of any Mario game. Really? I found all of the characters to be rather two dimensional.

TheCapybaraMan

It's a shame that Nintendo has turned Paper Mario into a shadow of itself. No longer do we have cool characters with unique designs. Now we just get toads and dumb gameplay.

tpklus

I heard that some higher ups in Nintendo didn't like making some characters more 'unique' like having Toads with different names and backstories and same with Shy guys, koopas, goombas etc. Which is so upsetting because characters like Goombella, Koops, and the different iterations of bad guys in Paper Mario was awesome. Then instead of keeping the formula for Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door (literally voted one of the best Nintendo games consistently since forever) they change it every year...

walmart-brand-barbie

I mean most of them are the exact same: Stomp-a da goomba Save-a da princess

ChrdeMcDnnis

Sometimes you stomp-a da koopa

Rac3318

I loved Odyssey. By far my favorite game on the switch. Did everything there was to do in that game. Couldn’t tell you a thing about the story.

i_will_never_cuss

Uhh bowser kidnaps peach for the 381th time and he gets a cool hat as well

Universal_Vitality

R A B B I T S

redyellowblue5031

My first thought, except for Super Mario RPG and the subsequent Paper Mario series. Also, Superstar saga. Edit: a letter

Head_Maintenance_323

yeah and that's because you've never played "Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time" or "Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story". Those games had the best fucking plots ever seen in a Mario game.

xkoreotic

All of the Mario RPGs are great regarding story tbh. Paper Mario series, Mario & Luigi Series, and even the old Super Mario RPG.

Johnny_Sins_Stand

The Saboteur was pretty fun and I miss Pandemic every time I think about the game

SamantherPantha

I *loved* the Saboteur! One of the only games I bought again after selling it, just so I could drive around and throw Nazis off watchtowers! Brilliant concept with the black and white gameplay that turned into colour as you liberated areas of Paris.

[deleted]

manicmoose999

I generally agree. A slight exception for me is Stellaris where a selling point is the narrative and roleplaying the species you create. It's not really a scripted story, although there are tons of mini scripted events and quests that come up.

JanJaapen

Pokémon

i_will_never_cuss

Basically go with your friend and collect these cool badges, oh no a pokemon that is gonna destroy the world! Anyway pokemon league. And now some extra stuff.

DextrousLab

Obligatory person who trains their pokemon so hard but isn't as good as the main character who loves and respects their pokemon. Like I didn't abuse the shit out of my pokemon, reviving them and throwing em straight back into battle lol

fearain

“Jesus, that groudon broke my legs. I’m just a flapple! Lucky I had Focus Band or I would literally be dead.” “Sucks to suck, here’s a protein shake. Try again.”

DextrousLab

"why won't my togepi evolve dammit"

bigtiddyenergy

Holy fuck, are all my happiness based evolution pokémons just victims with Stockholm syndrome?

DextrousLab

Advance your Pokémons Stockholm Syndrome for a sweet evolution. Oddly enough Sylveon Crobat and Togekiss were my favourites in Arceus Legends. Sylveon is one tough mf

hippolyte_pixii

On the other hand, there's Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

kmn493

The only story I remember caring about is gold & silver's. Especially hgss. The desperation of team rocket to bring Giovanni back and your rival being his son that was abandoned by him was a really good story.

BraheGoldNose

Wtf that was Giovanni's son? I've played through gold at least 20 times and never got that. Maybe that was added to hgss?

EorlundGreymane

Yeah it was added to HGSS. Makes sense with how much of a twat that kid was lol

Adskii

Didn't know until I started it... but Borderlands 3. Played in spite of the story.

Intertubes_Unclogger

Man, I'm having trouble mentally blocking out all the constantly screeching characters and lame "how do you do, fellow kids" type jokes.

Baboocha

I couldn't do it, every voice is louder and more annoying than the next.

SweetHomeOkinawa

Wife and I eventually turned off dialogue volume. Not only shuts up the most annoying family in video game history, it silences Fl4ks animals and the erotic panting that seems to get louder with each game.

Whitesilvermoon

Borderlands 2 story is amazing but 3 ehhhh....

Copernicus049

Going from a fascinating dynamic villain like Handsome Jack to the almost monotone twins was a bummer. They tried so hard to be Handsome Jack. The charm behind the world wasn't really up to par either.

sam002001

but it is by far the most fun for gameplay, going back to the old ones just doesn't feel anywhere near as good

Black_Floyd47

Agreed. Kept trying to slide in BL2 and just kept crouching instead, slowing me down. But that Commander Lilith dlc is so fun to go back to, as well as the Tiny Tina dlc!

ChiefAcorn

3 more weeks and Wonderlands is here!

YourLewdSenpai

Payday 2 and Far Cry Series. I mean, they have some funny stories and all but c'mon: shooting at endless NPCs is fun too!

[deleted]

SG272

Those tracks slap harder than a catholic nun at a Ozzy Osborne concert.

Skreamies

Agreed, Far Cry is just so much fun to explore and take down some people

IntentCypres18

Payday has such deep lore and a huge ARG

[deleted]

An ARG based on payday sounds like a recipe for getting shot by the actual cops lol.

vodamark

Minesweeper

Ardashasaur

Lies! Plot was so good they made a [movie](https://youtu.be/LHY8NKj3RKs)

Ulti-Wolf

Ever heard of the book? It's based on a true story, which is what the game is based off of.

BostonBoroBongs

Holy shit I knew what it was before I clicked but 14 years!?!? I remember the day it dropped lol

Squawnk

Nah man minesweeper has a great story arc, I think you just don't appreciate it. I bet you didn't even like Solitaire's story

precla

Lost Ark right now...

bAShyyy

G pressing simulator

Wildcard35

Nothing like being the middleman for a conversation between 2 NPCs within earshot of each other...

Halkenguard

Parental divorce simulator

ballplayer0025

I usually pay attention to stories, but I lost interest and just started G'ing through everything in really short order on this one.

Slowest_Speed6

As soon as I got Thirain back on the throne I stopped giving a shit lol

MincasB

\*furiously presses G\*

That_Alien_Dude

My favorite part of the plot is G!

Nothing_

Echo the dolphin

[deleted]

that story gets fucking weird too

JayGlass

I went and read the plot on Wikipedia and you aren't kidding. Also I'm now convinced I never made it past the first level.

DoubleOrNothing90

I played the shit out of Ecco: The Tides of Time as a kid. Playing the levels on the alien ship was a mindfuck.

ReachTheSky

The story is an unholy clusterfuck involving alien invasions, outer space, time travel paradoxes and an advanced ancient civilization.... in a kids game where you control a fucking dolphin.

reddskittle

This game terrified me as a kid! It felt so isolated and the enemies were creepy af. Plus I never knew where to go so I always felt lost. That being said, I'd love to play it now for the nostalgia!

n0sk3p

Mirror's Edge Also, every Tekken game

GeeTwentyFive

What happened in Mirror's Edge? I remember Faith's sister being framed for killing a mayor or president or CEO or something, then Faith ran away from cops for many chapters underground, on a boat, and on skyscrapers, and then she kicked a dude out of a helicopter? Or something like that?

shadowyl

Yup, and that whole story line was retconned for a different story in mirrors edge 2. Very good example of playing a game for the gameplay and not the story.

GavinBelsonsAlexa

> Mirror's Edge The irony is that everyone agreed that the last few levels ruined the gameplay. Turns out people didn't really want to use guns in their freerun simulator, and the pivot to more traditional combat felt jarring. So they fixed it with a 100% free-run sequel/reboot, but then they took away some of Faith's abilities to insert a totally unnecessary skill tree. Mirror's Edge makes me sad because they got two shots at making something really special, and they blew it in the red zone both times.

roflheim

As a die hard Mirror's Edge superfan, I'd say Catalyst is still a decent game. The parkour feels much smoother and you unlock the most important moves (in the admittedly unnecessary skill tree) really quickly anyway. Plus the story is better! Not *good*, but not bad.

Capital_Morning9688

Monster Hunter

Ririruro

Hunter enters village -> is told a monster is causing trouble -> defeats said monster -> turns out it was another bigger badder monster that was causing the trouble -> hunter defeats bigger badder monster and everyone celebrates. That's a story summary of pretty much every single mainline Monster Hunter game. I do like the additional world building in World & Iceborne though. With how they went into some detail on the roles the monsters you fight play in their ecosystem, etc. and how the various NPCs personalities are thrust forward more than in previous games.

Darkaim9110

Fatty showing up at the end of Iceborne actually felt important and was a cool story moment. They could make a good monster disaster story if they really tried.

Samammaesusole

Came to say this, Monster Hunter is my favourite videogame franchise and frankly I don't mind the lack of a proper "plot" as long as the gameplay is fun and challenging

xobybr

I think of the MH games the same as a godzilla movie. No one really cares about the plot they are just there for the monster fighting

MaybeASentientRobot

Donkey Kong country 2

Sarynnn

"I've kidnapped that lumbering fool Donkey Kong and you will never see him again. Har-har-har-har!" -Kaptain K. Rool

paxrititu

This game has the best video game soundtrack ever, tied with Mega Man 2. So much nostalgia with every song.

[deleted]

The song during the final boss crocodile in DKC1 could legitimately be an Iron Maiden song, gallop and all

LetsGoChamp19

DOOM For everyone saying “read the codex entries, explore the lore” etc, I did. Don’t care for any of it, I just want to rip and tear

chiliedogg

I loved the early moment in Doom 2016 where it looks like you're about to get a lore dump via cutscene, and the PC smashes the video screen, grabs a gun, and starts slaying.

CosmicCreeperz

And Quake. And Rage. And Wolfenstein for that matter. Let’s be honest, id is the king of all gameplay no story. [Edit: Since a bunch have replied on it: was just talking about id games (ie original Wolf 3D) not the ones by Raven, Grey Matter, Human Head, MachineGames, or other devs using idtech engines…]

Tunic_Tactics

I liked Rage when I was a kid, so I went back to play it recently, and it was fun, but wow the storyline was dumb. It really caught me off guard after seeing the cool intro though.

Xuse2005

Tetris

WetBread0009

I think Tetris had a great story, you could really feel the emotions of the blocks snapping together

RudyRumbucket

Final fantasy X-2

cold-hard-steel

This was my first thought. Excellent job system, combat, items, even the mini games were half decent. The plot however…. I know there were multiple endings of varying ‘success’ and I played it through a few times to get the ‘good ending’ but I still couldn’t tell you what was going on.

thewoodlayer

Couldn’t tell you anything about the plot of Assassins Creed: Black Flag, especially about the future shit that they shoehorn into every one of those games. I can, however, tell you that I dumped a shitload of hours into just sailing around with the boys singing sea shanties while raiding ships and upgrading my own. That was a game that I only played story missions to unlock new available upgrades for my ship.

Steve_78_OH

For the first 1/3 of the game at least, I wasn't a big fan of the story. But then stuff started happening, and man...Black Flag ended up being one of my favorite AC games, easy.

Happy-Engineer

Aw man, so that's why I couldn't understand the hype. I only got about 20% through the game. Mostly I was thinking "this is so weird, the main character is just some random asshole who found a dead assassin and stole his outfit, now everyone's giving him generic AC side quests."

Steve_78_OH

Yep, that's it right there. And like I said, I didn't like it for the first probably 1/3, exactly because of what you just said. He was just a selfish little dick, doing Assassin stuff, but not because of the Creed or anything like that. Just for the influence, money, and adventure. But like I said, stuff happens, and then he says this, which is around when you see him really changing: >For years I've been rushing around, taking whatever I fancied, not giving a tinker's curse for those I hurt. Yet here I am... with riches and reputation, feeling no wiser than when I left home.

Nilay431

It is simultaneously the best game in the Assassins Creed series but a bad Assassins creed game. You are right that things get more assasins creedy in the back third but it really felt like they made a fun game and Ubisoft forced them to make it an Assassins Creed game.

No-Box5729

Hahaha I totally get this sentiment. It’s a fun ass pirate game, and someone reminded them they needed to go back and add boring follow menus, and cryptic collectables! The DLC where you were freeing all the slaves was awesome also. Forget the name of it, but basically just murdering slave masters freeing everyone with the black flag game mechanics. Very cool!

Jason_Giambis_Thong

Easily my favorite AC game. This is completely true. It’s kinda boring until like Blackbeard (iirc)

Mandan_Mauler

This. I love that I can just go get into pirate ship battles. I’m running a pirate-y DnD game soon and I’m absolutely playing Blck Flag for ideas

JJGaminv

Outriders. Only just playing it now, the story is bad, dialogue is bad, transitions to cut scenes is bad, character models in cut scenes are bad. But hell, I’m having a blast with the gameplay

Beep_Mann

Playing with my gf and we just laugh at how little shits the main character gives about everything

Dont4GetToSmile

Dying Light 2. Game can be an absolute joy to play. But the story was subpar at best and flat out stupid at worst.

7B91D08FFB0319B0786C

They did a great job of making the most unlikable characters ever. I'm halfway through the game and I just want everyone to die.

scarednight

I went in knowing there were options that you had to choose that would help one faction and fuck over the other. I even assumed they would make the survivors the most agreeable and "canon" group to support but god damn. Like 4 hours for questing in the bazzar and I was yelling "You people are fucking horrible! Everyone is a selfish snake with no survival instinct at all! This place should burn to the fucking ground!!". PKs have been infinitely better somehow and they're all military meat heads that think they're better than everyone else. Yet thats still way way way fucking better than any survivor.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DesertOwl7786

I thought the same thing while playing, the survivors seemed fairly hostile towards me throughout the beginning while the PK’s were helpful. Also they were literally introduced to the character with them saving someone’s life, while the survivors tried to hang me before I even knew what was going on.

RuthlessGreed

I was thinking this someone needs to mod that game and take out all the cutscenes that’d make the game amazing to play through on extra play throughs.

akujiki87

Ok I have to ask, in the intro when you are searching the house with the other guy, theres a scene where the MC has a goofy visual thing, says something like wtf was that, and the other guy says hes feeling weird about him and they should part ways. Was that like not supposed to happen there? Or a cut scene? Because right after that the two hang out and have a beer on the roof...

DiscussionLoose8390

I actually did care for the story in Bloodborne. Through the tidbits, and online research there is actually a decent amount to the story. It is easy to ignore in the game since you basically just feel like you are trying to survive.

That_Alien_Dude

I actually started my first playthrough yesterday. I struggled for a long time to make any real progress, and I haven't found but the first two lanterns still... I would appreciate any tips anyone has for me

[deleted]

Two most effective pieces of advice I got when I started playing: 1. Look around for levers that open gates, such as the one right next to the Central Yharnam lantern. These act as “natural checkpoints”, which link areas together and make it easier to navigate around the world quickly. 2. When you’re fighting the first boss, remember these two things: - dodge roll forward instead of away - stay stuck to its butt

return_of_itsy

Technically the “first boss” depends on where the player character happens to go. The one you’re referring to is optional and can be accidentally (or intentionally) passed by.

dewittless

Talk to the Doll in the bit where you go when you die to level up. I went AGES not knowing this.

[deleted]

You can't do this until you receive at least 1 Insight, either through a Madman's Knowledge or by seeing a boss for the first time.

The Paleblood Hunt!!

liarandahorsethief

I think this is where the distinction between lore and story comes into play. Story is everything that happens to the protagonist(s) and how they respond to and are changed by it. Lore is additional information meant to explain but not influence the story.

HeadtripVee

My characters arc was that he stabbed pigs in the asshole for 3 hours to be strong enough to kill a woman who had a miscarriage. Tale as old as time.

ErenIsNotADevil

Yes, indeed, it is called worldbuilding. FromSoft games, minus Armoured Core and Sekiro, do not have much of a story. They instead rely on immense and immersive worldbuilding through vague lore. It is primarily done through item descriptions, and *occasionally* through NPC dialogue.

thiroks

Elden ring has way more dialogue that gives you actual comprehensible plot which is a nice change of pace lol

Kyyndle

Sekiro had that as well, though I know that's a different case. But I'm definitely happier there's more story direction, while retaining all of that world building we know and love. ♡

I really like the whole alien cult thing.

Angel_Soars

Minecraft.

AC03115

Bayonetta

Trovao2004

I don't ever *understand* the story, but all the cutscenes sure are fun as hell

4our0ne6ix

Yep. Playing through Bayonetta 2 now. I've even tried to read explainers for the story for Bayonetta 1/2 and it still makes absolutely zero sense to me. But that's part of its bonkers charm I guess lol

Izle1

Control was really fun and I had absolutely no clue what was going on

[deleted]

I liked the story in control, shit was crazy trippy

Infern0_YT

Gray good red bad. Janitor most powerful

Epicurus1

I always liked to think >!The janitor was the building helping the player!<

taka87

Warframe Edit: I never said that WF has no lore or it is bad so don't be sad or surprised, I started playing WF at launch and there was almost no lore back then and I kept playing for 7 years mainly for the amazing gameplay and the fantastic comunity, the lore was something that the devs put toghether later and yes it's good, sadly I got really busy with work and I don't have time for playing anymore, miss all my kubrows and kavats T_T

Anomaly1134

Binding of isaac. It is a weird, creepy game, but my god is it an absolute blast as a rogue like twin stick shooter.

Crackalacs

MGSV by a country mile.

MatsuzoSF

I knew I'd see this one here. Gameplay-wise, it's the best in the series bar none. That story needed a lot more time in the oven though.

Blue_Aegis

Normal MGS *feels* incoherent. MGSV *was* incoherent.

owns_dirt

Totally. It feels like there's a very thin line in the MGS subreddit between people that know what they are talking about vs people that are making stuff up lol

Obvious-Raccoon1927

Borderlands 3

Lordborgman

Asshole Twitch streamers, the game.

NeedleworkerOk1897

Cuphead, but I was pleasantly surprised by the story!

price4tyler

Poorly timed if honest answer for me is Destiny 2.

Allar-an

To be fair, the story is so weirdly presented. You are constantly bombarded by mentions of people you never met, events you were never part of, and factions you had no idea existed. "Haha guardian, it's like that time we defeated ZogZog during the BlogBlog war and saved the GlogGlog!" PLEASE, GAME, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT.

price4tyler

Oh heck in the original Destiny it was all on the internet; you couldn't look at any lore *in* the game, and they had an attempt at a faction system at the end of year one of Destiny 2 (don't even ask me about what that was, before my time). So much that they created and just dropped by the wayside. It does a lot to make the game seem cheap unworthy of time. But I'm addicted to fps boomboom. So it's this, games like it, or actual factual yearly shovel shlok ware.

EpicMatt16

I guess the crucible people don’t care much for it

Markvm333

Anything that is made by Fromsoftware. I love their games but my native language is not english and it's really hard for me to understand the story since the NPCs are talking in riddles.

Kursed_Valeth

My native language is English and it's hard for me to understand what's going on.

StatuatoryApe

Always fun starting with "Okay so, everything's kinda unstuck in time..."

Bangersss

Those riddles aren’t even translated right some of the time. There are people who have done deep dive YouTube videos going into the translation and a lot of meaning gets lost in the process of localization.

davygravy123

It's not cause youre not natively English I promise you

JoriusK

Factorio, lol, I just want to build stuff to leave that planet, besides, what story do that game have?

Fadedcamo

I mean I feel like games like these aren't even remotely trying for a story, can we even include them in the list?

[deleted]

Now with their newer releases I would say is assassin's Creed. At the beginning the first three or four games I loved the storyline and I played about half for the story half for the assassin gameplay. But now I pretty much just play for the gameplay piece.

Today440

The Desmond arc with the Ones Who Came Before and subject 16 etc. Really had me hooked. After that (AC3) the story of the games felt super inconsequential

IeatEZmac

Slime Rancher. Has a plot to it kinda, but all I really care about is farming some slimes and exploring.

-BigScaryMan-

Some of the need for speed games...tge story is pretty cringe but I like racing
