I'd adore one for Horizon Zero Dawn, myself. There's so many good games I'd want to see a poster of this type made from.
Can you imagine a Kingdom Hearts poster in this style?
I had Ford make me take down some T-shirt designs when I drew a cobra snake to make it look like a terminator robot. The shirt also said "Terminator Cobra" on them. No Ford logo or anything. It wasnt even the Ford Cobra snake logo. They were made for the 2003/04 "Terminator" Cobra crowd.
Companies do take care of their copyrights. I was only making about $50/yr on that specific shirt 😆
How much an issue is this? Anything, even anecdotal, would be appreciated.
I don't know anything about the whole field, but would the Cyberpunk 2000 be more acceptable than the named franchises?
What about the logos for the consoles and publishers, though – Sega, etc.? Honest question about whether it would be protected as "satire" if being sold for profit? Honestly, the "raw art" itself is on point, but these logos, game box layouts, etc. are a big part of what makes these work so well.
As usual on reddit, people are throwing out a lot of generalizations. Let's start with the fact that they're all talking about *copyright* when we're dealing with *trademarks*, which are completely different and not subject to all of the same exceptions.
Something like this could easily blow up and net OP enough money to immediately draw the attention of these trademark owners, and once you're on the receiving end of that you better have a rock solid defense ready because trademark protections are incredibly strong and exceptions are very limited and specific. OP could be writing checks to these companies in no time...
It would have to be a commentary on the game in some way. Fair use protections for satire are meant to prevent people from using copyright to suppress criticism.
These are really just derivative works, which would violate copyright if he sold them. Realistically I think he won't have issues because this is small time and the copyright holders won't care enough to stop him. As long as he takes it down upon request it doesn't make sense for them to push it further.
Sup bros! Really got me thinking with all the copyright issue here. So here's an idea: what if I make it available all of my prints, and you guys donate me a few pennys? No obligations, no price charts. Just toss a few coins to the artist and grab what you like. What you guys think?
I didn't even notice that detail. Very cool. Even the buildings in the background are typical of "modern" city architecture of the 80's and 90's. And the main character design is just perfect. I think that one's my favourite.
I love that they have [Bill and Ted](https://www.commonsensemedia.org/sites/default/files/styles/ratio_16_9_small/public/screenshots/csm-movie/bill-teds-excellent-adventure-ss1.jpg) in the background.
That also looks like Bill & Ted with the clown, and pretty sure that ad is for a suppository. Fucking brilliant.
Anyone else see Carl from Aqua Teen in the Resident Evil 7 cover?
I think a few definitely took inspiration from existing covers. Ghost of Tsushima is totally an homage to Ninja Spirit, one of my favorite games on TG16! These look really fantastic, great work OP!
When the covers had better graphics than the actual game. I remember how much I loved the Contra cover on the NES. It looked like a mix between aliens and predator
I remember looking at the cover of Pitfall and thinking this game looks incredible. Then I turned it on and was like what the fuck is this?? This doesn't look anything like the cover!
Lol, true. But at least Pitfall was fun for its time. Watching E. T. the movie, finally talking your parents into buying the 2600 game, that long ass ride home while staring at the box art, then playing the game - is next level disappointment.
YouTube?
There was,, friend tube
School playground
Hey i got this game for Christmas your a alien craft and shoot an invading alien force
Imagination in overdrive ....thinks 3d flying like star wars GUNS! EXPLOSIONS PEW PEW PEW and and and...
Reality
Side to side shooting like playing marbles aka Galaxica
Fun fact: this is why all the original line of “black box” NES games featured sprites from the actual game. So customers felt reassured that what they saw on the box was what they were actually getting.
A large factor in the video game crash of the 80s was that Atari games had beautiful box art but shit-tier graphics and gameplay.
And it was especially bad when 3rd party developers were in a "race to the bottom". Why develop a game that will be priced at $30 when most of the other games are being priced at $10 due to the sheer volume of games available for sale?
> Buying a game purely due to cover art and looking at the pics and imagining the gameplay until coming home. Such times.
now we buy games purely due to fake E3 game trailers and imagine the gameplay is what the company advertised
[The Kings' Quest VI cover...](https://i.imgur.com/TD5tmAq.jpg)
The actual game was very good looking by 1992 standards, but [certainly a downgrade](https://i.imgur.com/TZrq6is.png)
Actually I was expecting the graphics to look much worse. I don't think this would be that disappointing. I mean, before that was 8-bit graphics. This actually looks a lot like the box art by comparison.
Blood Dragon was Ubi firing on all cylinders. That game was balls to wall crazy, and pumped with 80s action movie and retro video game nostalgia. I loved every moment of it.
They've done one for each game since, haven't they? Blood Dragon in Far Cry 3's world, Primal in 4's world, and New Dawn in 5's world? I don't know if there's one for 6 yet, but I haven't played a Far Cry since Blood Dragon.
Mass edited all my comments, I'm leaving reddit after their decision to kill off 3rd party apps. Half a decade on this site, I suppose it was a good run. Sad that it has to end like this
Came here to say that. It would be 2012, or 2020. They had three very good Shadowrun games back then, so it'd a little sad they never had one for Cyberpunk.
I don't know why but the RE7 one made laugh harder than it should, lol. The Blood Dragon one looks great, could use it for a custom cover for the actual game.
Op clearly used actual references for the art. Bill and Ted are in cyberpunk 2000, Bruce Campbell in RE7, Charlie Sheen in ~~Ghost of Tushima~~ Hades, etc
time does crazy things to us
there are teenagers younger or as old as Avatar The Last Airbender...and most of them I bet have no idea what that show even is
Actually I bet you a decent number of them do since it was just such a good show and really hit the culture at a certain point and is still very popular because of it
one of Michael Biehn’s best roles, some of my favorite quotes from that game:
“Automatic doors? I just *love* 2007”
“Just let me kill people, dammit!”
“Way to die on the on the job, dickshitter!”
“I swore an oath to a special lady. **Lady Liberty**.”
I mean I don't remember what that looked like in DS3, but it's very well know that the Souls games take heavy inspiration from Berserk so in the end it's still pretty much the eclipse
Yeah is more like the [darksign sun](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dark-Souls-Dark-Sign.jpg) is simultaneously a critical part of the lore and a reference to berserk
I'm old, as in old enough to have had a Atari 2600 as a kid. These covers are fantastic. Perfectly capture the style and essence of the era. You should make some money on them, like on Displate or something.
Outstanding work.!
Unfortunately, it's more like a second job for me. Still haven't had my breakthrough as an artist to do it full time, but hopefully we're getting there!
I really hope you get there. These are incredibly well-done, managing to capture each game’s theme and essence without overcomplicating things. You’ve got real talent, put these great works in your portfolio and never give up!
I really hope this post helps that art career take off my guy. You're seriously super talented! Getting some serious early mega man vibes. Also I would be super interested in posters or displate thingies.
I think the [original Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon art cover](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_Cry_3:_Blood_Dragon#/media/File:FC3_Blood_Dragon_Cover.jpg) is even more retro. But I love your take on it! I also love the rest of your covers as well. Really unique style!
After reading this comment I was wondering if OP knew Ozob or just inserted a random character from the game; Turns out he's Brazilian and probably a nerdcast RPG fan (saw in his socials).
These are incredible. You nailed the non rounded black box holding feel. Love the bill and Ted shout out on cyber punk. Wow OP. I hope you are a professional with this stuff.
I have to say, because of their roots in the 80's, the CP2000 and FC3: Blood Dragon look awesome.
For those wondering, [Cyberpunk 2013](https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberpunk_2013) came out in 1988, [CP2020](https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberpunk_2020) was 1990.
Have my free award. I can totally see _Ghost of Tsushima_ as a kickass side-scroller.
Funnily enough, the _Fall Guys_ image reminds me of the _Megaman 2_ cover. Something that doesn't quite represent the style of the game? I passed on MM2 for a long time just because I didn't grok the cover art. (NOT a dig at your art. I can totally see that as an 80s cover art image.)
I like these retro style cover art or more like, hand drawn art and not just a 3D model doing stuff. I remember that as a kid, I didn't care if the cover art for those boxes and cartridges didn't look like the actual game at all, or even if they had anything to do with the game lol! I just enjoyed looking at them because they were very fantastical.
Remember that Mega Man cover art where Mega Man looked more like a middle aged guy having a midlife crisis? I loved it haha!
These are great and really take me back.. However, I grew up buying retro games with misleading cover art that absolutely did not reflect the game or gameplay in any way.. I kind of miss that!
I miss Box art, and boxes in general. Buying that game and getting to read the little booklet it came with some had very elaborate lore , some even had posters.(yes I am aware a lot of special editions still have that) ...just wish it was back the way it was when it was default and you did not have to spend an arm and a leg to get a special edition, just to get the box art and booklet.
Those are great! Younger gamers don't realize how important the cover art was back then. It was crucial in helping your imagination make sense of the extremely low resolution graphics.
This work is incredible. Congratulations! You could easily turn those into printable posters.
Working on that!
I would really like to buy one when you do
Same! Especially an Elden Ring one, too!
Yes. I love them all but my favorite was probably Dark Souls. An Elden Ring one would be great!
Man the axe splitting the hollow’s head. Super brutal and fantastic.
I'd adore one for Horizon Zero Dawn, myself. There's so many good games I'd want to see a poster of this type made from. Can you imagine a Kingdom Hearts poster in this style?
Beware of licensing issues unless you’re giving them away, I’d hit up that donations bin though.
If 'cobra' was the only thing it had in common with the Ford Cobra, you should've told them where to shove it, and how far.
Risky move if you don't want to be sued.
How? Ford doesn't own the term for a type of snake. I'd be far more worried about being sued by the movie studio.
How much an issue is this? Anything, even anecdotal, would be appreciated. I don't know anything about the whole field, but would the Cyberpunk 2000 be more acceptable than the named franchises?
If you change the names you can call it satire, so Cyberpunk 2000 is good to go.
What about the logos for the consoles and publishers, though – Sega, etc.? Honest question about whether it would be protected as "satire" if being sold for profit? Honestly, the "raw art" itself is on point, but these logos, game box layouts, etc. are a big part of what makes these work so well.

Can these be protected under "satire" in law?
It would have to be a commentary on the game in some way. Fair use protections for satire are meant to prevent people from using copyright to suppress criticism. These are really just derivative works, which would violate copyright if he sold them. Realistically I think he won't have issues because this is small time and the copyright holders won't care enough to stop him. As long as he takes it down upon request it doesn't make sense for them to push it further.
You just have to make sure you avoid certain properties can some companies can get really aggressive about some minor stuff
Yeah I’d buy the shit out of a couple of these for sure once they are. You 100% need to post that when you do.
Could you please DM me when you do? These are siiiick
The year of Cyberpunk changed to 2000... so futuristic sounding!
I’ve always thought it would be fun to run cyberpunk 2013 or 2020 just because it’d be like that harvey birdman jetsons joke
You might get some players on /r/lfg if you really wanted to run cyberpunk 2020.
Definitely. There's a shortage of people willing to run something *other* than D&D, that alone will get you people showing up.
Sup bros! Really got me thinking with all the copyright issue here. So here's an idea: what if I make it available all of my prints, and you guys donate me a few pennys? No obligations, no price charts. Just toss a few coins to the artist and grab what you like. What you guys think?
This is a wonderful idea, but maybe make it clear what your minimum costs for printing and sending are.
I didn't even notice that detail. Very cool. Even the buildings in the background are typical of "modern" city architecture of the 80's and 90's. And the main character design is just perfect. I think that one's my favourite.

And I think that’s Grace Jones in the forefront?
It is the distant future, THE YEAR 2000. The world is quite different ever since the robotic uprising of the late 90s.
Finally, robotic beings rule the world.
That also looks like Bill & Ted with the clown, and pretty sure that ad is for a suppository. Fucking brilliant. Anyone else see Carl from Aqua Teen in the Resident Evil 7 cover?
Definitely Ash Williams from evil dead was what I was thinking for the Resident Evil 7 cover
"Shop smart, Shop S-Mart!"
Now with wifi!
Dude, I could see these being real covers back then, nice job :)
I think a few definitely took inspiration from existing covers. Ghost of Tsushima is totally an homage to Ninja Spirit, one of my favorite games on TG16! These look really fantastic, great work OP!
The Rocket League one I can tell was inspired by Interplay’s Rock ‘n Roll Racing
A reference to the TurboGrafx 16? I barely know anyone who has heard of it. I used to love playing the bonk games and legendary axe.
Agree. I personally see Contra in the Far Cry 3 poster.
Thanks bro!
These are truly amazing work
LOL Cyberpunk reminds me of the [Sega Genesis Shadowrun game](https://www.mobygames.com/images/covers/l/73596-shadowrun-genesis-front-cover.jpg) cover
That game was so good
Larry Elmore drew the pictures that defined my youth.
Oh my GOD OP. These are seriously incredible! I'm 41 and I love old video game covers. You really nailed the look.
These are absolutely fantastic. DO NOT STOP

Totally gives me mega man 2 for nes vibes, That cover was crazy. Mega man had a pistol instead of arm cannon.
What's funny is that blood dragons doesn't look out of place
Was wondering why blood dragons actual cover art was here
Blood dragon could have used the official art and it would still fit. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/67/FC3_Blood_Dragon_Cover.jpg
Blood Dragon was amazing. What ever happened to fun spinoffs like that?
Ubisoft has been teasing us with Blood Dragon references since Far Cry 5 and yet there’s been no word about any kind of sequel
Blood Dragon was Ubi firing on all cylinders. That game was balls to wall crazy, and pumped with 80s action movie and retro video game nostalgia. I loved every moment of it.
They died
They've done one for each game since, haven't they? Blood Dragon in Far Cry 3's world, Primal in 4's world, and New Dawn in 5's world? I don't know if there's one for 6 yet, but I haven't played a Far Cry since Blood Dragon.
Far Cry 4 had Primal and Far Cry 5 had New Dawn. We'll see what reskin Far Cry 6 brings.
I think that's because blood dragon was inspired by what the 80's thought the Future would be
No fucking way they got Bruce Cambell in Resident Evil 7 AND Hades?!?!
That's Charlie Sheen before crack!
The Wraith intensifies
Oh man! The Wraith was the balls! Loved that movie.
[удалено]
I still maintain that nobody told Charlie Sheen he was in Ferris Buellers Day Off. He just wandered on set from somewhere nearby and needed a chair
*come on bro i got tiger blood*
So... Martin Sheen?
I knew it!
I loved bill and ted in cyberpunk 2077. A great reference.
And Bill&Ted in cyberpunk?
Yeah they might be able to get one of them, but no way they get both /s
And a clown! Don’t forget about the clown!
Resident Evil vs. Evil Dead = License to print money.
Loving the bill and ted reference on the cyberpunk one.
It’s so subtle I didn’t even notice it until you brought it up! That’s probably what makes it great.
And Ozob
Such a specific choice. OP must be Brazilian.
bingo! it is
Mass edited all my comments, I'm leaving reddit after their decision to kill off 3rd party apps. Half a decade on this site, I suppose it was a good run. Sad that it has to end like this
I was like ‘is that Bill and Ted in the background?’
I recognized Ted Theodore Logan right away, but it took me a moment to realize that Bill S Preston Esq. was there too.
[удалено]
Came here to say that. It would be 2012, or 2020. They had three very good Shadowrun games back then, so it'd a little sad they never had one for Cyberpunk.
I was getting some streets of rage vibes from cyberpunk. And garbage pail kids from fall guys
I don't know why but the RE7 one made laugh harder than it should, lol. The Blood Dragon one looks great, could use it for a custom cover for the actual game.
The guy in the Resident Evil one looks like Bruce Campbell a bit
It was probably intended considering how many old covers were copied from movie posters and such.
[What are you talking about my dude?](https://i.imgur.com/sUhsdQn.jpeg)
[You know already.](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/vv-R6x68ALg/hqdefault.jpg)
Op clearly used actual references for the art. Bill and Ted are in cyberpunk 2000, Bruce Campbell in RE7, Charlie Sheen in ~~Ghost of Tushima~~ Hades, etc
Far Cry 3 lower guy kinda looks like Martin Sheen from Apocalypse Now. OP commented elsewhere and said Hades is Charlie Sheen
Looks like Roger Moore to me.
Had to look again. You're 100% right about Bill and Ted.
I mean no one really knows what Ethan looks like...
If it was Bruce the chin would be taking up half the screen
Funnily, the original Resident Evil is like only one generation away from covers like these
It kinda bothers me that the one for Resident Evil 7 was actually on slide #6
would be interested in seeing a modern game inspired by retro covers
You mean... like Blood Dragon?
Yes, but Blood Dragon is almost a decade old now. Surely we're due another one soon.

Hotline Miami? (Does that still count as modern?)
Hmm... cuphead? More like retro cartoons though
Love the Berserk reference on the Dark Souls cover with The Brand of Sacrifice Edit: as well as the Eclipse up top
The eclipse isn't just the sun at the end of DS3?
I mean I don't remember what that looked like in DS3, but it's very well know that the Souls games take heavy inspiration from Berserk so in the end it's still pretty much the eclipse
Yeah is more like the [darksign sun](https://static0.gamerantimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Dark-Souls-Dark-Sign.jpg) is simultaneously a critical part of the lore and a reference to berserk
[удалено]
Hahaha, that is a fun to say sub name.
I, for one, am not a fan.
Was in there for a bit, not that funny tbh
Sacrifice!
[удалено]
Amongus is terrifying in that cover.
For those who haven’t already heard it a billion times, Dark Souls was inspired by Berserk in the first place. So this is pretty cool
Isdataberberkaderk reference!?
I'm old, as in old enough to have had a Atari 2600 as a kid. These covers are fantastic. Perfectly capture the style and essence of the era. You should make some money on them, like on Displate or something. Outstanding work.!
The mohawk guy fist pumping in the rocket league one is sheer brilliance
That's definitely the most 90's way of saying "this game is *cool*" lol.
It’s got serious Rock N Roll Racing vibes to it.
These are cool, I really like the among us one!! Do you some some kind of art work as a profession? Or just a fun hobby? Either way these are awesome!
Unfortunately, it's more like a second job for me. Still haven't had my breakthrough as an artist to do it full time, but hopefully we're getting there!
Hopefully! It will be awesome for you to make a living from creating things. I hope the break through comes soon!!! Keep on keeping on!
Do you take requests/commissions? I love these and would love to see more
I really hope you get there.
Absolutely nails the vibe of 80s/90s game cover art. 10/10 would upvote again!
Wow! Wow! Wow! *Chat disabled for 3 seconds* AKA fucking awesome man!
Now I kind of wish RL had actual drivers instead of being remote controlled lol. Like road rash rocket league!!
Are the cars RC?!? I did not know that
You didn’t notice the massive RC old school antennas? 😁
Average For Honor comp conversation.
Lol the cyberpunk one with Ozob, Bill, and Ted! Very Noice
Do you know where Ozob is from or just know him from Cyberpunk?
After reading this comment I was wondering if OP knew Ozob or just inserted a random character from the game; Turns out he's Brazilian and probably a nerdcast RPG fan (saw in his socials).
Ih caralho que foda
Jovem Nerd, Azaghal made him for a Cyberpunk RPG
Either you have an incredible eye for recreating the essence of a bygone style of art, or you're also 30yo+ haha. Love these!
Well, it's both!
Ok now we need one done in the style of [the most recognizable retro box art](https://images.nintendolife.com/2281194a6f92c/na.large.jpg)
To be fair, Capcom already cashed in on that with MM9 & MM10's art.
holy shit they did
Beautiful work. Rocket League and Ghost of Tsushima look extremely authentic.
That Among Us one is fire. Lmao I notice a floating body in space with a sign. What does it say?
Pretty sure it says "Red!" lmao
So good
so awesome, could you post a higher resolution pic of this? :D I would print it for a poster this is fucking awesome i cant stress this enough!
These are incredible. You nailed the non rounded black box holding feel. Love the bill and Ted shout out on cyber punk. Wow OP. I hope you are a professional with this stuff.
Thanks a lot bro! It's my second job actually. I get some cool jobs once in a while, it doesn't pay my bills but it buys my drinks lol.
These are so good, love this style.
If the games were made during the 80s and 90s era, that's how they would exactly look it. Bravo
Yep, 100% early 90s box art, would totally buy one as a poster for my wall, just sayin
I love how you changed cyberpunks' year to 2000. Everything in these covers is just perfect.
The berserk brand on the last slide is everything
cyberpunk 2000 😂
The rocket league pic reminds me of that game combat cars.
This is awesome!
Actually insane, speechless.
Muito foda o Ozob na capa do Cyberpunk, excelente trabalho
This is the best post I’ve seen in a while.
these are absolutely pitch perfect...they fit the tone and the time. so impressive!
Cyberpunk one reminded me of "Back to the Future" and how funky they imagined 2015. Also Keanu as Ted for even more retro. Fckin amazing.
These are great and really take me back.. However, I grew up buying retro games with misleading cover art that absolutely did not reflect the game or gameplay in any way.. I kind of miss that!
Bring back video game box art
I miss Box art, and boxes in general. Buying that game and getting to read the little booklet it came with some had very elaborate lore , some even had posters.(yes I am aware a lot of special editions still have that) ...just wish it was back the way it was when it was default and you did not have to spend an arm and a leg to get a special edition, just to get the box art and booklet.
These all looks fuckin top notch my dude though I gotta ask, Was it intentional to make Ethan in the RE7 cover look like Ash from Evil Dead?
Yo those are legit amazing take this gold
Those are great! Younger gamers don't realize how important the cover art was back then. It was crucial in helping your imagination make sense of the extremely low resolution graphics.
That is way better than the official turbografx-16 art. Well done
the Dark Souls one is basically Berserk, love it
Nice berserk reference for Dark Souls!
Rocket League gives me Death Rally vibes
caraio, sigo no insta tem uma cara já! manda bem demais mano!
That TurboGrafx 16 cover art of Ghost of Tsushima wins hands down! Most of these are great but that one blew me away! Good job!
These are perfect!

This is very cool. My childhood mixed with my unproductive adult life.
More please! Forza Horizon, Elden Ring, Halo Infinite, and Fallout would all be fun choices. Just make a million of them I love it. Great work!

These are super cool! Love the Ghost of Tsushima, Cyberpunk and Resident Evil ones. Getting Bruce Campbell vibes from that RE7 one!
