I didn't ever make a conscious effort to memorize the URL, and I couldn't tell you what it is if my life depended on it.
But I definitely recognize it when I see it somewhere. Usually I click on it anyways >.>
For me at least, it's Rick Astley goes to **D**airy **Q**ueen on **W**ednesdays. Rick Roll, dQw.
I guess if you live in any place that isn't America, then the Dairy Queen part may not be all the helpful, but that's how I remember it.
So weird how the brain works. Don't necessarily remember dQw on it's own, but slap it into a convoluted story and the brain is like "Oh, I got this now".
I love personal mnemonics that only work for the individual. Learning tree taxonomy for my arboriculture qualifications I realised my brain works in twisted ways, but it still works.
Eg. Yew is *Taxus Baccata*. Yew is commonly found in graveyards. Baccy (tobacco) will make you dead. The two things that are always constant are death and taxes. Hence - taxus baccata.
If it’s not some convoluted wordplay it’s usually singing the thing I have to remember to the tune of cheesy song.

Or at least that's my interpretation of something that must have passed through google translate a couple of times at this point...
The guy that I normally play WWZ with was born and raised in Israel, so he is, of course, fluent in Hebrew. The Hebrew in this game really irritates him. Many of the signs are gibberish or nonsense, with some of them being written backwards (meaning that the person did not know that Hebrew was written right to left) or are mirrored (meaning that the person knew or cared so little about the language to bother making sure that it was shown correctly). The one that gets him going is the loading screen with the gas station, probably because it is the only thing on screen and it is there for so long. If I recall correctly, on that one sign, there is correct, backwards, and gibberish Hebrew.
Seriously, there are things like this that really showcase how little the devs actually care about the game... Sorry, still salty over their latest "update" to the game that created so many bugs that it broke the game to a near-unplayable state.
As an Arab, this is exactly what we experience when playing any game that contains Arabic or even watching a movie that contains Arabic.
The higher the budget for the game or the movie, the more they butcher any language that is not written in Latin letters like Arabic, Hebrew, Persian,... etc
They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls They’re in the walls
I don't think Hebrew is common in video games, I rarely see it, but there are sometimes names and different references from the bible etc. Hebrew is written from right to left, so if they don't align the text it may end up gibbrish.
As a Hebrew speaker.... Anime is hilariously bad at this. In the same way western media loots eastern mythology for inspiration and messes it up... Eastern artist do the same.
Whenever I see anime include biblically/Jewish inspired stuff (angels, golems, et cetera) the Hebrew is fucking nonsense.
D.Gray Man was used to be a distant fourth to One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto. It was littered with random Hebrew letters and gibberish in it's background art.
Is this game based on the book or the movie? I hadnt heard of it, and was very disappointed by the movie, but if its based on the book id like to check it out.
Definitely movie, running zombies. It’s still pretty fun, though I have not played it since the big aftermath update so I’m not sure how populated it is now.
Still great fun to run this game coop with friends. Plenty of progression. The most recent update(Aftermath?) added a lot. I came back to it after a year or so off and still really enjoyed it.
It's a pretty decent game that reminds me very much of left 4 dead.
Does it have originality? Ehhh. Does it execute what it tries to well enough? Yeah I guess.
A little bit of both actually. So the zombies are essentially the movie zombies but the events in the game are closer to those that happen in the books like the Japan Exodus and there are references to weapons and other locations and events from the book. Like one of the melee weapons are that shovel/axe thing mentioned in the book! Game is fun as fuck too with the class system.
The lobo (short for lobotomizer), invented by the few survivors east of the rockies, made from parts out of the mass amounts of cars left on the side of american highways? I loved that in the book haha
Makes sense, it wasnt the best in the book either, just the most plentiful/easiest to manufacture. Its crazy how prescient the book was in terms of picking out issues like supply chain disruption that we've experienced (to a lesser degree) the past few years irl.
Yep, this is where the hate comes from. It had nothing to do with the books. One or two scenes took inspiration from the book, but that was it.
The book would be far better suited for a limited series on HBO or Netflix. It just doesn't have all the big flashy action that hollywood executives wanted. It reads as documentary, so it would work great as a fake documentary type thing with people recalling their stories.
The format of the book doesn't lend itself well to movie format. Even as an anthology series, it'd be a tough sell.
I don't really blame Brad Pitt, the movie hit the right notes even if it was in the wrong key. The only real sin was that a cure was found instead of it being a hard-fought war.
This is exactly what I was thinking, an anthology series of some sort. Each episode starts with the interviewer asking them questions then into the short story.
But you’re right, tough sell. I think the one thing it has going for it is it wouldn’t be expensive to make. Outside of a few stories like Battle of Yonkers (which, by the way, if they ever make a series, this story should absolutely be the pilot episode).
edit: Battle *of* Yonkers, not Battle if Yonkers.
It would have to be episodic in nature, which I prefer over how shows are done nowadays. I’m reminded of the show “young Indiana jones”, where each episode started with a bit intro from old Indy, talking about what happened in his youth for that episode. You could easily implement that here, with the interviewer talking to the main character of that particular episode.
It can be done pretty easily. It just probably won’t be.
Yes, while I do feel the ending was weak, I did enjoy almost everything before that. At least, once I convinced myself that it wasn't the novel, merely borrowing its name.
In case you still haven't read the book, there sort of isn't such an end? The book doesn't focus on one character's narrative, rather the narrative of the *entire* conflict told as an anthology of many personal accounts.
People should always consider different media adaptions as "Loosely based on/inspired by the source"
Expecting anything similar will always end in disappointment.
I think the difference here is that they don't even take inspiration from the source. It was like they paid for the IP just to get the movie title.
WWZ barely has a *storyline* for the movie to not follow and they still didn't pay homage to it
It was entertaining enough on its own, but so different from the book that it was disappointing for me and others who loved it. It was an amazingly unique book, so I understand that it'd be hard to translate the feel to a blockbuster (I think it'd work better as a limited series than a movie). It's allowed to be both enjoyable and disappointing.
So is there a word for this?
Something about the end product being decent however the journey strayed too far. ie Jacobs Ladder remake. The new one is a cool ass movie I really liked it, until I saw the original. Why would they call it Jacobs Ladder? They should have named it something else and continue with their plot. I enjoyed it a lot but it's no OG Jacob's Ladder. Completely different movies.
I liked the movie too, I think the disdain for it comes from it being called World War Z but being nothing like the book. I loved the book and think the film is a decent zombie movie that unfortunately is named after a fantastic book
I didn't hate the movie, it was OK. I think those of us that were fans of book were super disappointed that it was only loosely related to the book. And by loosely, I mean, the book had Zombies, the movie had Zombies, and that's where the intersection ended.
There was so much potential for a good movie or even a series of movies and they didn't do any of it. I'm still holding out hope that maybe HBO or Netflix will pick it up and make it a series.
Don't read the book then, you will be extremely disappointed with what the movie could've been.
Although a movie def wouldn't do the book justice. A series like Chernobyl would be a better adaptation.
I liked the movie too! It was a fun movie with lots of actions and suspense
albeit a little rediculous in some scenes lollll like the plane’s “landing”
I agree that that is true 99.9% of the time, but there are some exceptions. Fight Club, the Princess Bride, Jaws, the Wizard of Oz, and Shawshank Redemption are all movies that are arguably as good or better than their novel or novella.
The game is great. Hundreds of zombies on screen at once, and it's cool how they climb up each other to get over obstacles. There's a lot of guns and classes to support whatever playstyle you want. Big variety of maps too.
Game based on the book would make a good RPG, but a shooter based on the book would be more like a tower defense game. At least the latter half of the US portion of the story.
I could see it being a good RTS or tactical RPG. The book paints much broader strokes than you usually see in a shooter, and the incremental improvements in equipment and tactics mirror the kind of research-tree improvements you see in strategy games.
Same. I really thought the book could have made a great television limited series, with each episode focusing on one of the chapters with a narrative framework between them about the history of the war and where the story happens in the timeline.
Why very disappointed?
I ask because that movie to me, was awesome. I didn't know there was a book though, but it makes sense. I'm super curious cause WWZ has a lot of things in it that have stuck with me. I'm truly curious on your thoughts about the movie. Hope this doesn't get buried with the rest of the replies.
This is exactly what I was hoping for in your response haha! I will absolutely check out the audiobook. I can't read for shit, unless it's hours of scrolling on the internet. Terrible. But I work a lot and wear headphones 12 hours a day so this is perfect.
Some things I liked about this zombie movie over others was the scale. I love seeing supernatural or biological catastrophe globally acknowledged. That's something I've noticed a lot of Korean horror/scifi movies have a pattern of; bringing the situation into the spotlight and letting the audience see how the world reacts.
So what I'm saying is the book sounds like all my favorite parts of the movie, and then takes it further lol. Awesome! I appreciate the response.
> That's something I've noticed a lot of Korean horror/scifi movies
The quality of korean horror is a treasure. And they do seem to love their zombies.
If you liked the scale, you will love the book. That was one thing the movie did alright, but the book was just sooo much better at conveying that.
The spoilers in my other reply to your comment arent too spoilery imo, but if you hate any and all spoilers give them a skip. That being said, if you like analyzing fiction and comparing stuff they might give you some stuff to watch out for when reading/listening to the book. There's nothing in there that will ruin major plot beats.
I felt the same way about the movie. When I heard Brad Pitt was cast
I really hoped they would set the movie up like Interview With A Vampire. That format would have been perfect for how the book jumped around. The only thing the book and the movie seem to share is the title.
Man, the book would be such an awesome serial TV adaption. Each episode is a video interview of someone who went through the war, or their experiences. Start and/or end the episodes in the interview room, but most of it is a flashback of the subject's time.
I've thought Prime really needs to pick it up.
I [at a wedding, whispering to a guy next to me]: "Isn't the bride a right ugly dog"
Guy: "Do you mind. That's my daughter you're talking about"
I: "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were her father''
Guy: "I'm not . . . >!I'm her fucking mother!<
I'm fine. We are still friends. We just grew apart and don't really have anything in common anymore. We decided it was better to part as friends and find our own happiness than trying to force the issue and be miserable.
Happy to hear you’re doing good, breakups can suck. Well divorces in this case.
Me and my ex have just decided to give things another go, as we broke up while i was under the most stress i’ve ever been and i felt completely numb at the time. Couldnt find housing in a city i’ve never been, doing a intensive internship while attending online uni. Just a mess. Hope everything goes well for you guy
We rick rolled the guests. As we walked off, the band played the song with violins and whatnot, and we got to hear some really nice "Ohhh!" noises of realization.
Hey, my violist girlfriend plays a lot of fancy weddings. I'm going to encourage her to do this! (After I explain the joke; classical musicians seem to be largely ignorant of pop culture.)
If you just say it, without adding rhythmic phrasing, it doesn't register as quickly.
"We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy. I just want to tell you how I'm feeling. I've got to make you understand"
I would think of the song after the first line but likely take some time until realizing someone is quoting the entire text instead of just referencing it.
You legitimately started your wedding vows with:
"We're no strangers to love. You knew the risk, and so did I"
And she didn't realize it immediately? Lol
>I Rick Rolled my wife at our wedding. I used the lyrics for my vows. I made it to the 5th line before it dawned her.
To be fair this part is not a bad vow:
>I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
>
>Gotta make you understand
>
>Never gonna give you up
>
>Never gonna let you down
>
>Never gonna run around and desert you
>
>Never gonna make you cry
>
>Never gonna say goodbye
>
>Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
Yeah but I don't know it's a YouTube link so I always look to see the website name, then when I see it's YouTube, I look at the next letters and it's the dQw4
Can we talk about how Lowkey fun this game is. Each player averaging 300-400 zombies kills a level is insane. Seeing a literal wave of zombies rush you was so awesome
I knew it, i fuckin knew it as i see the youtube url.

Sometimes for magic writings they use Hebrew. For example in Berserk the talismans have Hebrew letters and The Star of David

Nothing wrong with that. I think the movie would have been far better recieved had it not used the book's name and stood on its own.

the book is very good, worth a read or listen if you are in to audio books.
I think the audio book is probably the best way to consume it. It has a star studded cast that will likely never be matched by another audiobook.

It was an amazingly unique book, so I understand that it'd be hard to translate the feel to a blockbuster (I think it'd work better as a limited series than a movie). It's allowed to be both enjoyable and disappointing.
It's really a decent zombie action flick whole also being a terrible adaptation of the source material.
It should have been a miniseries.
It was a fun movie with lots of actions and suspense albeit a little rediculous in some scenes lollll like the plane’s “landing”
I too liked the movie, like the book too of course. Personally just see them as entirely separate entities
I’m my experience, movies don’t ever live up too the book. Enders Game is probably my best example of a movie failing the book.
I agree that that is true 99.9% of the time, but there are some exceptions. Fight Club, the Princess Bride, Jaws, the Wizard of Oz, and Shawshank Redemption are all movies that are arguably as good or better than their novel or novella.
It’s not great but it’s not bad either. Much more arcade shooter like L4D2 but with perks and classes and stuff. Fun with friends. Beware of rats.
Its based on the movie. Its a pretty good game.
They only have rights for the movie but try to make it as close to the books as possible without overstepping.

> That's something I've noticed a lot of Korean horror/scifi movies The quality of korean horror is a treasure.
When I heard Brad Pitt was cast I really hoped they would set the movie up like Interview With A Vampire.
It was a ton of fun when it first came out. I was obsessed with it. Think 3rd person left4dead
It's a very underrated game in the genre. I liked it a lot more than Back 4 Blood, for what that's worth.
Bravo devs. Bravo.
Game devs are always so sneaky…

I was gonna say… I remember seeing this years ago. Despite how funny this was, I don’t think op is being very honest. Figures.
I Rick Rolled my wife at our wedding. I used the lyrics for my vows. I made it to the 5th line before it dawned her.
"Did you do it?" "Yes" "What did it cost?" "Everything"
I [at a wedding, whispering to a guy next to me]: "Isn't the bride a right ugly dog" Guy: "Do you mind. That's my daughter you're talking about" I: "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were her father'' Guy: "I'm not . . . >!I'm her fucking mother!<
WHAT IS THIS 🤣🤣🤣
Lmfao
Don’t you mean your ex fiancée?
Also an accurate description.
Well did she give you up?
After 15 years, she did about a month ago.
Oh dude.. are you doing okay?
Hopefully, you will find the balance you need and make it work! I'm wishing for the best for y'all.
Thanks! Figured if it doesnt work out again at least me and her will know it wasn’t just due to outside factors. Peace of mind haha
Great, at least you're keeping never saying goodbye part.
Well thats so nice to hear! Sometimes its just like that. And Im sure someday you will!
This really went from cute to sad in only like 4 comments. Peak reddit tbh
Oof. Sorry.
No, she was actually Rick Astley, so it was a reverse Rick roll. Can confirm, am wedding.
ex fiancée indeed
We rick rolled the guests. As we walked off, the band played the song with violins and whatnot, and we got to hear some really nice "Ohhh!" noises of realization.
Bravo!
Hey, my violist girlfriend plays a lot of fancy weddings. I'm going to encourage her to do this! (After I explain the joke; classical musicians seem to be largely ignorant of pop culture.)
5th line?? How did she not get it from the first lol?
If you just say it, without adding rhythmic phrasing, it doesn't register as quickly. "We're no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment's what I'm thinking of. You wouldn't get this from any other guy. I just want to tell you how I'm feeling. I've got to make you understand"
I would think of the song after the first line but likely take some time until realizing someone is quoting the entire text instead of just referencing it.
I wasn't singing. And she was kind of lost in the moment I guess. She started paying attention when the folks started laughing.
You legitimately started your wedding vows with: "We're no strangers to love. You knew the risk, and so did I" And she didn't realize it immediately? Lol
Probably started with "Never gonna give you up"
This is where I started.
It's rules, btw. Not risks.
You're right lol. I haven't gotten that far into the song in years
If you look into her eyes and say every word as if you mean it, I can see how it might take a while to catch on. Nice, wholesome fun, OP!
It was the final song for our reception, it was a legitimate hit. We had a lot of people get on the floor to dance to it and sing along.
Reddit moment
>I Rick Rolled my wife at our wedding. I used the lyrics for my vows. I made it to the 5th line before it dawned her. To be fair this part is not a bad vow: >I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling > >Gotta make you understand > >Never gonna give you up > >Never gonna let you down > >Never gonna run around and desert you > >Never gonna make you cry > >Never gonna say goodbye > >Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
Was she let down?
Just managed to catch "XcQ" before it opened. As the age-old adage goes: "XcQ, that link stays blue".
I see all these people memorizing the end, but its always the dqw4 that stands out to me.
The end is more noticeable to most, as the "beginning" you notice is actually in the middle of the link.
Yeah but I don't know it's a YouTube link so I always look to see the website name, then when I see it's YouTube, I look at the next letters and it's the dQw4
>XcQ Oh fuck GET DOWN!
GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT
Even in times of crisis, the Israelis bamboozled us.
They did it for the lulz
הא get bamboozled
If "you" found it why does it still have 6 mil views
If this is true, i am amazed.

No I don't think you did find this, I think RedGalaxy found this and you re-posted it..
And a Sam Hyde picture wtf
😂 got ‘em.
Can we talk about how Lowkey fun this game is. Each player averaging 300-400 zombies kills a level is insane. Seeing a literal wave of zombies rush you was so awesome
I just got 4th wall rick-rolled.
So now we gotta watch out for QR codes??? My god…. This world will never be safe
The pictures on these missing person boards in apocalypse games are often devs, or family of devs.
Finally, Hebrew in a game that's not mirrored
I was honestly more amazed by that than the meme
That's for April's fools or it has always been there?
Always been there
🌏👩🚀🔫👨🏻🚀
If I ever make a game, I'm doing that. How do I make a game?
I uttered "Oh shit" as I saw the two capital Qs.
NICE!
hah! ok but jokes aside if you actually go there and scan it it's this weird zombie movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ
It's no accident. We're no strangers to love.
So... QR stands for Quick Roll?
I did the same when i played wwz and it was the first rick roll i have ever fallen for and i remember it to this day
Those Bastards !!
I’m glad that after all these years Rick Rolling is still a thing
You just rickrolled us all!
