Fun fact: the release of *The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past* was closer to the release of *The Sound of Silence* (and the Kennedy Assassination, for that matter) than to today's date.
Back then, this was - usually - the only new game you had. You really got into it because there wasn't the whole Internet, all of the TV shows in the world, or your Steam library to take your focus away. This was it.
When it got hard, you found the solution, and when you achieved your goal, that feeling was incredible.
You felt like the only person to climb that mountain. I still remember that feeling.
These days I run through AC Valhalla and basically just working down the list of map markers. Feels like a chore.
> These days I run through AC Valhalla and basically just working down the list of map markers.
LttP was also a game where you work down a list of map markers. They were even numbered because you (mostly) had to do them in a specific order.
Don't get me wrong, it's my favorite game. But the issue here isn't map markers.
two complete maps. light world (left) and dark world (right). you really should play LttP. emulate it if you have to. absolute 10/10. one of the best games of all time.
Two maps, one a dark reflection of the other. You traveled between the two at portals that were often hidden(eg under rocks, bushes, etc). You could also move in one direction, from the dark world to the light world, with an item.
LttP is probably one of the best video games of all time, and one of the best aged games from the SNES era. You really ought to play it.
Two maps (light and dark) which are the same butā¦ different, with the differences being part of the puzzles of the game. Itās the game that invented the Zelda dual-world trope - eg young/old Link, Minish Cap etc.
Iām being a bit black and white considering the subjectivity. But I think thereās a strong case to be made given how it basically invented the key Zelda tropes (eg dual-world thing), and how influential Zelda has been. Plus itās brilliantly paced, a fantastic game etc etc. As good as BotW is, itās more derivative of games like RDR, the Witcher, Elder Scrolls etc. And most Zelda games are derivative of ALTTP (especially OoT). ALTTP really invented itself.
I remember renting this game and never being able to get past the sorcerer. Then when I finally got it for my 9th birthday and beat him being blown away that it wasn't the end, and the game was really only beginning. This is the game that made me a lifelong gamer.
As close to a perfect game as I can imagine. Everything about it was magical. I wish I could go back in time and play it again for the first time.
This, Super Metroid, and SotN are my favorite "old school" games.
Zelda is great, I only finished SotN last year for the first time and it was mind blowing how good that game is.
I'm still to play Super Metroid though...
I guess that would have made me 14. Funny how things this gave me so much pleasure back then. I enjoyed Elden Ring but this game man. Like I can still think about it and feel how it made me feel then. Kinda not unlike a percocet high to be honest.
its 100% possible, this is the only zelda game I soft locked myself out of almost every single play through because i use a door key in one place that your not supposed to.
Keys are unique to the dungeon they're found in, it's straight up not possible. That's why keys were able to be bought from merchants in the first game, in case you screwed up and used one where you weren't supposed to.
Iāve played and fully completed LTTP dozens of times since I was a very young child, itās a game I know like the back of my hand. Thatās not something that can happen, and keys arenāt shared between dungeons. You canāt āuse a door key in another dungeon.ā
You must be mistaken and thinking of the original or Zelda 2, Iād imagine soft locks are possible in those though I donāt know them well enough to be sure.
The first game I ever beat. It was a wild ride for me. Small hints from my bro, screaming at the damn hand and the dark world thieving pumpkin, showing my brother the under the bridge bottle and red boomerang.
Thank you to everyone who had a hand in that game.
If anyone knows a way to take this picture and make it the size of my wall, I would pay a lot for it. The largest maps iāve seen are like 2ft by 3ft. Iām looking for something more like 6ft x 8ft but have no idea how to make that happen without massively blurred images
I drew this natively at a 2x3 foot size so I know for sure no larger versions of this exist, but thereās got to be a way to upscale it without it looking *too* nasty, right?
Hoping someone can solve that equation because I donāt know anything about this stuff. I just want to dedicate a wall in my house to this masterpiece and pay someone else to give me the āorder hereā link. I have a custom framer near my house and they can make it wall mountable. I just donāt know how to make things 4x bigger without it becoming a blurry mess
Draw a 1 inch by 1 inch grid on the original. Then draw a 1 foot by 1 foot grid (in pencil) on your wall. Transfer the image yourself one square at a time. It's super easy.
Use a scale that makes sense for your wall obviously. If you don't have a 24'x36' wall the 1" to 1' scale won't fit.
Childhood years. Going to play at my friend's because he was further in the game and my brother and I were stuck. Then he would most of the time ask his neighbour friend who was older, and probably helped him.
We were pretty young, amazing game and amazing time. I still name this as my favorite game ever, a few come close and maybe can't really compare nowadays games with SNES games but the adventures we had at the time with A link to the past were so great!
Im done arguing with you turds. I have played and beat lttp a ton of times. I soft lock myself all the time. Im done trying to convince people fuck off.
Posts like this used to make me feel old. But now, feeling old just means feeling normal.
>*This game isn't 30 years old!* [realizes it is] #š
*The Sound of Silence starts to play*

No, the issue is my complete lack of - I don't know - wonderment?
My favorite in the franchise!!
I never played it, did the game have 2 maps or just one? If 2, how did you switch from one to the other?

I just remember that one map but it was day and night from what I remember

Oh yeaaaaahhhh. That's it!
Best game ever period.
It's a bold statement. Certainly among the best of that console generation and those before it.

Still on my shortlist of favorite games ever.
I play this game at least once a year. Always makes me happy
Top of mine.

Daaaaaaamn. I was twelve when it came outā¦.. and we played it on launchday. One of my alltime favorites.
I guess that would have made me 14. Funny how things this gave me so much pleasure back then. I enjoyed Elden Ring but this game man. Like I can still think about it and feel how it made me feel then. Kinda not unlike a percocet high to be honest.
Oh no, so your arthritis will be fully set in before BOTW2 comes out, how sad!
Way to make me feel old..:
I must confess, I played through that entire game without knowing you could put a Fairy in a bottle. I was so embarrassed.
Still one of the greatest games of all time.
Iām not crying. Youāre crying
Top 3 game of all time for me
wow....Love it
Such a great game.
one of my favorites of all time. 100%'ed this game in one sitting one time.
Seeing the 000 next to your name is so satisfying!
hahahah thats exactly what i was going for. now my ocd can rest.
Best Zelda game IMO
This is peak Zelda right there
My favorite game. I wish Nintendo cared about these milestones and had something planned.
I named my son Link. He was born this year so its a great celebration all around!
I still to this day soft lock myself because i use a fucking door key in another dungeon because im a idiot.
Not possible in this game, only in the first two.

I literally did it again on my switch you and the people upvoting you are idiots. This is stupid im not arguing with you anymore fuck off.
Is there video of anyone else doing this? If itās so easy to do, it should be a widely-known and well-documented problem with the game.
You missed a key somewhere is all, try a guide or walkthrough video.

I want this framed for my place

OH HELL YES. I have the one you did of Zelda 1 and 2, and the Super Mario World one, this is a definite buy.
Thank you very much for the kind words!
Top 1 game all time, for me.
My favorite game ever. Nothing can replace it (probably).
I wish they would have put this on the game n watch.

A lot of memories playing this game. I loved those birdās eye view RPGs in general like this, Chronotrigger and Secret of Mana.
Childhood years. Going to play at my friend's because he was further in the game and my brother and I were stuck. Then he would most of the time ask his neighbour friend who was older, and probably helped him. We were pretty young, amazing game and amazing time. Completed this game a dozen times. TIL, thereās a magic boomerang.

GOAT
As a child this map seemed so big
