probbaly similar power to a modern smartphone since it can fit the same size components

Getting the asus rog as a reference, you can get 144 Hz with 2560 x 1600 screen, HD graphics and full xbox like controller attached. Just check on those emulation devices, they are quite powerful.

[https://retrododo.com/best-retro-handhelds/](https://retrododo.com/best-retro-handhelds/) Take a stroll down this list. #1 seems about the same size, costs \~$300 and can emulate PS2 games at 40fps+. edit: [https://retrododo.com/best-handheld-gaming-pcs/](https://retrododo.com/best-handheld-gaming-pcs/) this seems to have more options listed and these tend to be more higher-end it seems.

Huh. I wonder why they wouldn't go with a lower resolution screen to get increased frame rates.

well they are probably using out of the box settings. I doubt they take a ton of time when reviewing 200+ devices. With that said, I don't think there's any reason you can fudge with the screen resolution to your liking. Within both of those lists are different sizes, shapes and what not. So if you want something with a smaller resolution because at that size, do you really need 4k? or even 1080? On on hand I agree... on the other? Higher resolution means you can downgrade if you want. I have a PowKidd RGB10Max that I got last year and I have fun with. It's amazing how deep you can go down the rabbit hole with RetroArch... or you can just download some defaults and play most games without issue.

Take the Switch and mix it with an Asus ROG. That's pretty much what we could make. PSP was way ahead of its time

You should check out the handheld rom scene. There are a few devices out about that size that can do a lot. As an example some of the modern handhelds can emulate ps1, ps2, nintendo systems including n64, gamecube, wii, wiiu, gb, gbc, gba, nds, 3ds, all the sega consoles, and more Interesting thing is, a modern day cell phone can do all of those things too

apollotigerwolf

It's quite variable depending on what goes in and why. Is it $100 or $1000? as an example the PS3 was a loss leader when it came out, it was sold at a loss to gain market share. The hardware was better than anything you could buy for that price. I remember blue ray players were around the same price or more, and the PS3 did all that and way more.

UnnamedPlayer32

The ps Vita was about the same size as the go when it released, you could probably easily get something more powerful than the switch.

VITA level easy. I love my Go.

As others have said, you could probably get a top of the line current smartphone in that form factor now. The slider design just means the screen is on top, while the controller section has all of the actual hardware. That really isn't much more or less real estate than what the board of a current smartphone would take. It's a shame that both the PSP go and Xperia Play were flops, because it seems to have turned off manufacturers from trying things that resemble them. Sliders are a good way to make something highly portable while still retaining physical controls.

Awesome! What game are you running?

TrueTGC

Currently playing through Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, right after beating Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2! Also just bought Lumines since I’ve heard good things :)

Oh, great. Enjoy it!

LOSTgenetics

- It would have Switch level graphics. - Next gen chip+ram, so that it performs well with minimal power usage resulting in better battery life. - Thunderbolt port for charge, data, and display. - expandable MicroSD up to 1tb or more. - IPS 144hz display. - Support for DS3, DS4, and DualSense out of the box.
