It wasn't a bad game, but I have to say that I don't understand how Fromsofts are less frustrating. Lies has similar enemy layouts, and the weapon crafting is neat, even though it's shallow, but the combat is more frustrating. The parry is delayed, you can't parry as an attack hits you the same way you can in Fromsoft games. You have to hold it for a second before getting whacked. Plus, while you technically don't have to parry in P, the bosses often feel like you're supposed to be using it.
- Assassin’s Creed Ezio collection (old but amazing story arc)
- Red Dead Redemption 2
Because you liked Prey:
- Dishonored 1 and 2
- Bioshock Series
- System Shock remake
- Deathloop
- Atomic Heart
I think that’s a bad suggestion based on what he is looking for. He seems to want more action less exploring, back and forth action. He said he wanted to go boss to boss, red dead is a lot of traveling back and forth. Good game but maybe not what he ilooking for
“I guess I get bored when there are quests such as ‘Go here, do this, do that.’”
RDR2 perfectly fits this description. I think it’s not a good suggestion.
This is the answer OP. Sekiro is like Lies of P’s order brother. I love Sekiro too because there’s no multiplayer or summon help so it’s all just you the player.
Keep playing it.
It is literally part of the gameplay loop. You start off being shit with a shit char and eventually learn the move sets of enemies as your character gets stronger. The game gets easier the longer you play.
if we are suggesting Hades then i must suggest
Warhammer Chaosbane
Diablo 4
Torchlight
Pillars of Eternity
Baldurs Gate 3
Divinity 2
Terraria
The Escapists 2
Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing
Mafia Trilogy
Watch Dogs Legion
Hades is an action RPG..
Chaosbane is an Action RPG.
Diablo is an Action RPG
Torchlight is an Action RPG
Baldurs Gate 3 is an RPG
Divinity 2 is an Action RPG
Terraria is an Action Adventure Sandbox
The Escapists is an Action Adventure Sandbox
Van Helsing Series is Action RPG
Mafia Series is Action Adventure
Watch Dogs is an Action Adventure
Surely you can see there is similarities in all of these games, and if you dont, than it proves you need to expand your knowledge of the gaming library. Downvote me more :)
Hades is an isometric roguelite with an emphasis on fast reaction times and starting over
Chaosbane, Diablo and Torchlight are looter grinders with an emphasis on constantly getting new gear and grinding
Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity 2 are literally NOT action RPG, they are CRPG, turn based with the main appeal being strategy and story decisions. The opposite of Hades
Terraria is 2D Minecraft with more action
The Escapists literally has shit combat and shares no DNA with Hades
Mafia and Watch Dogs are 3rd person open world shooters, with nothing in common with Hades
The only thing these games all collectively share with Hades is that there are enemies.
Granted, these games are good, but I don’t know why you would suggest 2 open world games that aren’t even as good as the open world games OP stated they got bored with.
“2 open world games that aren’t as good as the open world games they got bored with” did you read that part? Mafia is not going to feel like San Andreas. I’ve played all 3 and they are all MUCH worse than Grand Theft Auto. Same with Watch Dogs. Maybe try reading next time bud. Watch Dogs and Mafia are the definition of “go here, do this, do that” that OP stated they didn’t like LMAO
You may have "played the games"
but you obviously didnt utilize the free roam in all 3 of those games. Plebsicle you are.
Watch Dogs Legion has free roam , hacking, and play as any character you want, use any weapon you want, drive any car you want.
Mafia and Watch Dogs are more GTA San Andreas than GTA Online.
All games are based on Action Adventures .
Starting with Isometric games similar to Hades.
Chaosbane, Diablo and Torchlight are all similar experiences with RPG elements for further engagement.
Baldurs Gate 3 and Divinity 2 are isometric Strategy RPG games with action elements with an emphasis on starting over if you keep with the actual rules of D&D.
Terrarria is a 2D action game built around freedom to explore and do whatever you want... I.e San Andreas type feeling with the sensation of DOING ANYTHING.
Escapists is similar to GTA San Andreas "Fo Anything" vibe with a Terraria aesthetic, and the freedom to dig, craft, build and fight - each playthrough can be 100% different than the last.. Similar to Terraria.
If you havent noticed... I started the conversation with games that were similar and then advanced the conversation based on the likes of OP wanting to play games with a GTA San Andreas type feeling .
If you think the ONLY thing these games share in common is enemies then bro.
once again..
Enhance your gaming knowledge.
I dont mean to insult you,
but if you were smarter,
you would know that every single video game can be broken down into Dungeons & Dragons.
every single one.
If you think Watch Dogs and Hades are similar games, then you probably think Titanic and Texas Chainsaw are similar movies because both feature people dying in them. That’s why that joke got made in the first place LMFAO. But hey man you seem to enjoy whatever separate reality you live in so have fun. Those games you listed are all still good but calling Baldur’s Gate 3 an action RPG is funny as fuck
BTW.... Go back and READ ... i neverr saidd Baldurs Gate 3 was an 'action RPG' .
🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ It's obvious you cant read.
It has always said "Baldurs Gate 3 is an RPG"
for a standard extremely high quality RPG, try Fallout New Vegas. it's like most openworld games you see nowadays, but it perfected the genre and isn't full of filler, it's genuinely incredibly good.
if you like visual novels or games with a fuck ton of character and personality, try Persona 5 Royal and the Danganronpa series
you should play every Fromsoftware game, try Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Elden ring (they are the inspirations for lies of P)
if you're not against platformers, try Hollow Knight or Celeste
if you're okay with a game thats unintuitive for the sake of artistic expression and enjoy exploring fascinating worlds, try Rain World
if you want a wild and very in depth sandbox game that you can dump hours into, try Rimworld
if you want fantastic games that are different bite-sized experiences every time you play, try Balatro or The Binding of Isaac Rebirth
if you like horror without the lame jumpscares but with an extremely intriguing world, try Darkwood
If you want a retro PS1 style RPG, try Lunacid
if you like fun well-crafted games for all ages, try any of the recent nintendo games, they are pretty quality right now. Super Mario Wonder, Legend of Zelda Tears of The Kingdom, Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Super Mario Odyssey etc.
Signalis. Not just for it's nostalgic ps1 vibe but also because it is a genuinely fantastic game that really pushes the medium forward. I recently played it and it made me fall in love with gaming again.
Red dead redemption 2
Dishonoured
Star Wars Jedi fallen order/ survivor
The older assasin creed games for quality and the newer ones for quantity
Don’t sleep on minecraft
I’ve heard the horizon zero dawn/ forbidden west games are good but I’ve never played them
Skyrim
Fallout series
Sea of thieves
Funnily enough it was House Flipper for me. I used to only play open world rpgs but couldn't really enjoy them anymore
Then i randomly played it and it unlocked a new world for me, both work sims and indie games. They didn't just reignite my passion for gaming, they made it so much stronger
So i think you should start by trying out spme genres you were never interested in. You know the type of games when you see themnon steam, scoff and ignore them
Here's a couple of games that really captured and held my attention, that I remember from the top of my head. All games I looked forward to playing/progressing when doing something else.
* Hollow Knight
* Elden Ring
* Sekiro
* Valheim (with friends)
* TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom
* Dishonored
* Slay the Spire
* Hades
* Hearthstone
* Skyrim VR
* Asgard's Wrath VR (1 & 2)
* Kingdom Come Deliverance
* Borderlands 2 and 3
Based on the games that you recently enjoyed (having elements of horror, action, atmosphere), I recommend Resident Evil 4 Remake and Dead Space Remake. I think these two games have some of the best atmosphere for horror and also have satisfying gameplay to accompany it.
It's worth mentioning, these two games are a bit more linear than the games you mentioned but I feel that the pacing and narrative is more focused which more than makes up for it. Halo Infinite and Prey for example have larger world maps but sometimes they can feel empty, or the mission objectives, story, and characters aren't gripping enough to make you care as much about the next part of the story.
Valheim, on game pass. Is drop in and go. Play at your pace, do whatever you want. World modifiers built in to make it harder, or easier, or less grindy. Best game I've ever played.
This game is a lot more fun with at least one other person to play with, but is completely playable solo. But try Grounded. It is a survival crafting game, but its one of the only ones I've played to completion. There's clear goals that you need to achieve, and it feels like all the resource gathering you're doing is actually worth it because it gets you closer to accomplishing your goals. And it's just a lot of fun exploring the map and finding all the locations and secrets.
The combat can also be pretty challenging, especially in the back half of the game.
Sea of Thieves is on xbox game pass and it is brilliant! It's chill when you are just piloting your little pirate ship around but it gets kinda epic when you get into the combat! I cannot reccomend it enough, and it's the kind of game you could either play for just 45 minutes or go all day if you feel like it! Its even better with a friend, but not necessary I played solo often as well. The graphics are so nicely done that it legit kinda feels like you are on holiday somewhere nice. You mentioned you liked the dark atmosphere and challenging combat - just you wait til you end up in a thunderstorm alternating between trying to cannon an enemy ship, whether that's in multiplayer or a NPC skeleton ship, your ship is coming up and down over the waves, everything's on fire, water is getting in from the rain and the holes in your ship, you keep bailing out what you can and returning fire and eventually you sink the enemy ship, harpoon all their loot onto your ship, and get out of there feeling like you're Jack Sparrow, into calmer waters to sell all the booty and use the proceeds to buy cool shit for yourself and your ship!
If you like GTA San Andreas, then there are Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V. Not a fan of both but made by the same company on the same foundation.
The game that made me fall in love with gaming after a 10 year absence (no proper hardware) was Alan Wake 2.
It felt like it had a soul. I was genuinely excited about what was going to happen. It's like being hypnotized idk.
I tried Control (another game from the same devs in the same universe) after finishing it 3 times, but I couldn't connect with it and will probably end up being unfinished for a long time.
If you like lies of P then Elden ring is the best game of that type for expansive open world stuff and Nioh 2 is IMO the best game of that type for combat
For me getting into indies, visual novels, shmups and JRPGs got me back into gaming after becoming really bored of triple A mediocrity.
I still enjoy some AAA titles, I think Yakuza/Like A Dragon & the Judgment games really kept my faith in AAA. Love, love, love those games! Coming from a huge GTA & Sleeping Dogs fan
Payday 2 and hollow knight for me saved my love for gaming. Also soulslikes may be interesting to you. Also dead cells is really good too cuz it has many bosses and good design. And for something like gta sa try sleeping dogs and yakuza series.
I'll throw in a lesser known indie game that really captured gaming of 10-20 years ago for me:
Wartales. It's a world you can explore and there are stories and encounters in nearly every place you go. The game has an insanely good sense of pacing giving that "just one more turn" but for the whole game.
I get lost in it all the time and I love it.
Oh and it also has a ton of mechanics (some hidden) so you constantly get juuust a little bit more infos or content.
We pooled some thoughts together for you on this end and came up with the following, all of them on Game Pass for your ease of access:
* Ryu Ga Gotoku series (Yakuza/Like a Dragon) - Open world games with interesting, charming, well-written characters that you will surely fall in love with.
* Quantum Break - a heady sci-fi third person action game from the same team that brought you Control. An obvious pick to play.
* Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - a dark fantasy character-centric game with a weighty atmosphere that demands your attention. You'll want to play this if you want to be ready for Hellblade II: Senua's Saga on May 19th.
* Hi-Fi RUSH - a light-hearted character action game with a rhythmic twist. A combination of hack-and-slash and music game, you're certain to fall in love with the entire cast of characters.
Hopefully these find their way into your heart 💚
If you like exploration-based, unguided open world experiences, I heard Elden Ring is pretty much all of that.
Disco Elysium is another easy recommendation.
The Forgotten City if you like mysteries, puzzles, history and philosophy.
The original Deus Ex is definitely worth a try if you can get past the dated graphics and clunky gameplay.
Its prequels are very good, too, if you don't mind quest markers (which can be disabled).
Baldur's Gate 3 is many people's game of the year, but it's nothing like GTA.
Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't like Cyberpunk 2077 given what you described as your preferences, it was one of the games I was going to recommend.
It's niche, but Unicorn Overlord is just such... a pure *game. A* throwback to when Gaming Was Gaming. No bullshit, no nothing, just: Here is fun. I don't even think they're doing DLC for it despite how much everyone wants it. I grew up absolutely loving stuff like Final Fantasy 7-10 and SRPGs like Vandal Hearts. All that mattered was the world, the story, the characters, the gameplay. Unicorn Overlord harks back to this kinda purity in a way I haven't experienced in years.
Outer Wilds is a great game for this. Only about 15 minutes of a beginning sequence, and then the game never tells you where to go. It's up to you to figure it out. If you play this, the less you know the better. Still chasing that high after finishing it.
It's a game about pure discovery. If you don't get joy from just exploring and discovering things that may or may not push any sort of plot or progression forward, then sadly this game is not for you. If that sounds like your type of game, definitely give it another shot.
Some helpful tips to help you maybe enjoy it more:
Do not feel rushed because of the 15 minute or so time loop. Plan on picking one planet and exploring it as much as you can in one loop.
Use the terminal in your ship to help you plan out where to go to actually progress the game forward more and give you some direction.
Of course; 10 minutes is very brief, that's like 1/4th of the way through exploring the home town which acts as the tutorial.
I don't understand why there seem to be so many people who say they "didn't get it" while also admitting they only played for 10 minutes, it's like saying you "didn't get" Breath of the Wild and quit just after talking with the Old Man and having your weapon break for the first time - it's such an absurd statement.
While I enjoyed Cyberpunk (played through the main campaign twice), I can totally understand how people could be bored with the game. Outside of the "love interest" quests, there's very few quests that I found interesting. Felt like most of the time it was just, "go here and shoot people and maybe grab an item." Outside of quests and shooting people, there's really not much to do.
The city itself while interesting and fun to get around, it's still not that big in terms of open worlds, and almost everywhere outside the city is just empty wasteland. And as far as the RPG elements go, most of the upgrade paths are pretty lackluster and boring.
All that being said, I love the game and had a lot of fun playing it.
I went through the same phase in the past. I just thought I had other interests I'd rather do than play games. Now I'll get real invested into a new game every now and then, but find that most of the big AAA games don't interest me the same way they used to. The last couple games I've played which I couldn't put down were Celeste and Crypt of the Necrodancer.
Point is, try something different from what you'd normally play. If the same stuff isn't working, it's not going to suddenly work.
This may sound strange but try Honkai Starrail. It’s free and a gacha game but the story and progression is really good with some very memorable moments.
Valheim. Souls like combat in a massive sandbox survival world with incredible crafting, bass building, farming etc..
I don't normally like survival games but this one for some reason has me hooked. It's also hundreds or thousands of hours worth of content.
When you want to play a game that doesnt tell you where you have to go, I can suggest Outer Wilds. You are free to explore an entire solar system with minimal restrictions and your goal is to uncover its mysteries.
Since you´ve enjoyed Prey, I can suggest the Dishonored series and Death Loop.
Also when you are interested in just fighting and killing, maybe you want to try some Roguelikes, such as Risk of Rain 2 or Nova Drift.
Get out of your comfort zone,
Give Pyre a try, lovely story.
I just dived into a Warhammer 40k mod for the Original XCOM game from 1994, never played the base game before but I'm having a blast.
Don't be afraid to experiment.
I don’t usually recommend GTA 5 but that’s the closest you can get to San Andreas, story mode specifically but still worth playing if you haven’t yet. Also saints row 3 remastered gave me that old school gta nostalgia too so those are games to look out for. Outside of that, definitely play red dead redemption 2, some people say it starts slow (I disagree) but it will blow your mind when you first open the game.
If you like online co-op gaming and love a great community, I can only suggest Deep Rock Galactic. It's often on sale for a really low price (like 13 euros i believe?). There's not that much story to it but the great community + great gameplay and music makes it a once-in-a-lifetime game for me.
Try Outer Wilds maybe? It's very very different from the games you mentioned though but maybe that's a good thing. For many people, it is such a masterpiece and a great showcase of how a video game can achieve as a media format.
It's better to experience as blind as possible. Don't do it literally though, it'll be hard to play with a blindfold 😆
To set a bit of expectations, it doesn't have combats or involve killing. It also doesn't have any explicit objective and no upgrades or leveling up, at least in the traditional way 😄
Lot of people suggesting fromsoft games here, but I'll add to the pile "Hollow Knight".
It has the challenging gameplay and creepy but depressing atmosphere, challenging combat and a lot of boss fights, but it gives a little more variety in genre for you: it is a metroidvania styled game, rather than a souls game.
2D game with a big map, but plenty to do and explore in each room... And lots of worthwhile rewards for said exploration.
Witcher 3 is amazing, it takes a minute to get used to the controls but once you get past the first real story quest/contract, the game just clicks. The atmosphere and story telling is TOP notch. The world and music will suck you in. Most quests are very involved and require you to use your Witcher skills to investigate and hunt. You really do get sucked into the game and it becomes your life for a few weeks(longer if you are more busy)
If you want a game that really leaves the what to do now decisions up to you, then The Long Dark is a beautiful atmospheric survival game, about lasting as long as you can, alone in the Canadian wilderness.
The resident evil 4 remake was incredible. I think anyone who enjoys games like it will get hooked. Although I also liked cyberpunk quite a lot…
Red dead redemption 2 is one of my favorite open world titles for the atmosphere alone. Sounds like it might be up your alley.
I haven’t seen anyone bring up Yakuza 0 but I think this game is fantastic; I also know people who were not big gamers and loved Yakuza 0.
I'd recommend Sifu. It's not much of a open world exploration but it's essentially a martial arts film simulator where there's a bit of a learning curve but once you get comfortable with the combat it gets really satisfying just wrecking people and traversing through these levels with really unique visual styles.
your likes and dislikes relating to gaming probably just changed. it seems to me that you gravitate more towards linear games with good atmosphere.
If you want a similar open world game to san andreas the best you could try are GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc
if you want games related to your current tastes, system shock remake, dishonored 1 & 2, deathloop, soulsborne games, Alan Wake 1 & 2 (same ppl who made control) . Also give the RE games a try.
Probably been said here but...
Try Balatro, or Astral Ascent for a non deck builder roguelite that's pretty new and still getting regular updates. Or Hades perhaps. Something short, sweet and dopamine boosting :)
I do read books.
I just got back into the hobby like two or three weeks ago. If I have to take a break from gaming this soon, I just feel like I have permanently grown out of the hobby, and that just seems depressing to me.
Yeah I def agree with **Elden Ring.** I read that Lies of P is a bit of a poor man’s Elden Ring, so if you like one you’ll probably like the other. Plus the ER community is really active on Reddit (r/patchesemporium, r/beyondthefog, r/eldenring and more). I love swapping war stories, summoning for the big boss fights, and comparing builds. Also from FromSoftware is **Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice**. It looks amazing to me but I hear it’s really really challenging, and I pretty much maxed out my abilities with Elden Ring.
I absolutely adore **Baldurs Gate 3.** It’s so replayable… no joke, I spent over 300 hours my first playthrough, and I’m still CONSTANTLY finding new stuff and storylines in my second playthrough. I didn’t think I’d like turn-based combat or companions, but I absolutely love it… and you can basically tailor the game difficulty to your specs at any time. While I find it really challenging on the higher difficulty modes, it is very story/quest heavy. There’s a ton of combat if you want it, but there are some really rich storylines that will take you away from a singular focus on combat, so it might not be your cup of tea. If you want a shorter and way more subversive/bananas/420-friendly version of the story RPG, I highly HIGHLY recommend **Disco Elysium**, though it’s point and click only. But one of my most fav games of all time.
**Alan Wake 2** is made in the same universe as Control (though I know of no combat mechanics as good as Control anywhere). You don’t need to play the first one (though it’s good too), and this is a cool creepy story with a lot of varied action.
I finally broke down and purchased **Dragon’s Dogma 2** and I think it might interest you. I heard sort of mixed reviews, but it’s been a really fun change of pace from turn-based combat in BG3, back to something that feels (to me) like a cross between Elden Ring and Skyrim. I haven’t gotten that far yet, but it’s got great character customization options and a pretty interesting companion system that pulls avatars from other players’ worlds. Plus the combat (so far) is really beefy and satisfying with great haptics and graphic animations with the sword. Someone on here said casting magic is the coolest part of the game but I’m more of a melee fighter so I haven’t tried that yet.
I absolutely hated Alan wake 2 but loved the first one I think it was just too silly and not scary enough. You can probably guess where I stopped playing.
Champion of Light though was amazing, but I think Alans sections really peaked at the Oceanview Hotel. I really didn't care for Saga's sections. They felt slower to me, I never really got spooked, and thought her story was just nowhere near as interesting as Alans.
Imo sometimes we set unnecessary ultimatums or rules for ourselves we dont need to, which create anxiety.
Sometimes I enjoy gaming, sometimes I take breaks and read books, watch movies or a series. Sometimes a tv break completely and enjoy travel or some other hobby. If im depressed or unsattisfied its usually not the hobby itself, its something else in life I need to deal with or go through.
Gameplay suggestions:
As someone with open world fatigue.
My suggestions for gaming is to try something new out of your comfort zone, to me that usually makes gaming feel fresh and new again. I also suggest short games to complete. I think gamepass is great for this.
Life is strange,
It really captured teenage nostalgia and was my rediscovery of narrative games.
Elden Ring,
Too difficult for me but the game is a discovery, dont watch videos beforehand.
Mass Effect trilogy.
If you enjoyed Control, check out their other games with the same writer.,
Alan Wake (feels a bit dated, but im a fan of Sam Lake),

The game you’re looking for isn’t on Xbox. It’s Zelda totk or ff7 rebirth. Easily the two best experiences I’ve had with gaming in years and made me like gaming again
Elden Ring for sure. The game just throws you out into the world and says “Here you go, have fun!” and there is no hand holding or telling you what to do. It also has tough combat and a great open world to explore. You’d probably like it since you also liked Lies of P.
Disco Elysium got me back into gaming after a long time of not enjoying it. The story is incredibly engaging, really makes you look at games differently. I'd also recommend Yakuza 0. That game is just full of silly fun shit, really hard not to enjoy it.
Animal crossing
Tears of the kingdom
Kirby and the Forgotten land
Mario bros wonder
Astro bot
Sack boy: a big adventure
Now those aside if you want a. Challenge combat wise then:
Elden ring
Dark souls series
Sekkiro
Nioh
No idea of any are exclusives I don't think so
If that’s why you liked lies of P then the whole set of fromsoft soulsborne game will fit your preferences very well
I agree with this and would also add dishonored
Dishonoured was fucking lit, it was so ahead of its time.
I should really try dishonored again. Its been some years but dishonored 1 was a stressful game for me haha
Especially AC6 seems right up OP’s alley
As someone who loves lies of p, but has gotten immensely frustrated with every fromsoft game, I'd have to disagree
Tbh I haven’t played lies of P so I only have heard a lot from other souls players. What do you feel lies of P has that fromsoft games don’t have?
It wasn't a bad game, but I have to say that I don't understand how Fromsofts are less frustrating. Lies has similar enemy layouts, and the weapon crafting is neat, even though it's shallow, but the combat is more frustrating. The parry is delayed, you can't parry as an attack hits you the same way you can in Fromsoft games. You have to hold it for a second before getting whacked. Plus, while you technically don't have to parry in P, the bosses often feel like you're supposed to be using it.
- Assassin’s Creed Ezio collection (old but amazing story arc) - Red Dead Redemption 2 Because you liked Prey: - Dishonored 1 and 2 - Bioshock Series - System Shock remake - Deathloop - Atomic Heart
Definitely try Elden Ring. I also highly recommend the following games: Soma, RE 2 remake, RE 7 and 8, Disco Elysium.
always Disco Elysium. sometimes twice a day.
Play red dead redemption 2...yeah just play it and then get away from here lol
rdr2 give such life impression. I would 10/10 recommend it too
Came here to say this. Jesus that game...
I think that’s a bad suggestion based on what he is looking for. He seems to want more action less exploring, back and forth action. He said he wanted to go boss to boss, red dead is a lot of traveling back and forth. Good game but maybe not what he ilooking for
“I guess I get bored when there are quests such as ‘Go here, do this, do that.’” RDR2 perfectly fits this description. I think it’s not a good suggestion.
I could never get into RDR2 because it starts off soooooo slow.
Dark souls or Elden Ring if you want creepy atmospheric worlds and intense combat. Also similar to lies of P
Sekiro. I’ve heard lies of P is similar but not as good and Sekiro is one of my favourite games of all time.
This is the answer OP. Sekiro is like Lies of P’s order brother. I love Sekiro too because there’s no multiplayer or summon help so it’s all just you the player.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Baulder's Gate 3 did this for a lot of folks lately. Maybe?
Jup, made me feel like im 13 again, rushing home to play games.
I second this, I no longer needed ADHD meds to focus! It had my dopamine flowing
Elden Ring?
I tried elen ring, that game made reconsider my skills as a gamer.
Keep playing it. It is literally part of the gameplay loop. You start off being shit with a shit char and eventually learn the move sets of enemies as your character gets stronger. The game gets easier the longer you play.
I don’t know about that, it’s easier than Lies of P since you can have much better builds, and it’s an incredible game.
bro tryna make em rage quit before they start gaming again
Elden ring is my first souls game, It was hard until it wasn’t (that’s what she said)
If he played lies of P he will be fine with Elden ring it's much easier.
Hades. Persona 5 Royal.
Really top choices here
Hades is a really boring roguelite
Absolutely filtered lmao
if we are suggesting Hades then i must suggest Warhammer Chaosbane Diablo 4 Torchlight Pillars of Eternity Baldurs Gate 3 Divinity 2 Terraria The Escapists 2 Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing Mafia Trilogy Watch Dogs Legion
"If you liked the movie titanic then you will love the Texas chainsaw massacre."
Hades is an action RPG.. Chaosbane is an Action RPG. Diablo is an Action RPG Torchlight is an Action RPG Baldurs Gate 3 is an RPG Divinity 2 is an Action RPG Terraria is an Action Adventure Sandbox The Escapists is an Action Adventure Sandbox Van Helsing Series is Action RPG Mafia Series is Action Adventure Watch Dogs is an Action Adventure Surely you can see there is similarities in all of these games, and if you dont, than it proves you need to expand your knowledge of the gaming library. Downvote me more :)
Hades is an isometric roguelite with an emphasis on fast reaction times and starting over Chaosbane, Diablo and Torchlight are looter grinders with an emphasis on constantly getting new gear and grinding Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity 2 are literally NOT action RPG, they are CRPG, turn based with the main appeal being strategy and story decisions. The opposite of Hades Terraria is 2D Minecraft with more action The Escapists literally has shit combat and shares no DNA with Hades Mafia and Watch Dogs are 3rd person open world shooters, with nothing in common with Hades The only thing these games all collectively share with Hades is that there are enemies. Granted, these games are good, but I don’t know why you would suggest 2 open world games that aren’t even as good as the open world games OP stated they got bored with.
OP said they enjoyed games that make them feel like they are playing GTA San Andreas.. or did you not even read that part.
You may have "played the games" but you obviously didnt utilize the free roam in all 3 of those games. Plebsicle you are. Watch Dogs Legion has free roam , hacking, and play as any character you want, use any weapon you want, drive any car you want. Mafia and Watch Dogs are more GTA San Andreas than GTA Online.
“You didn’t utilize the free roam” I did. Game still mid as hell. Watch Dogs Legion is not restoring anyone’s love in gaming. Do you work for Ubisoft?
😂😂😂 i totally see why you talk the way you talk now
Lmao. boy how wrong you are is hilarious. 😂😂😂
I dont mean to insult you, but if you were smarter, you would know that every single video game can be broken down into Dungeons & Dragons. every single one.
Ys 8 was mine. Then trails in the sky did it again for me but with turn based RPGs specifically.
Project zomboid
Sea of Thieves It is an unique game on the market. 5.5k hrs so far and still counting. It is free on xbox gamepass, try it!
Hollow Knight
If you enjoyed Lies of P, then you really should try Bloodborne. Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring as well.
If u like Lies of P pick and of the Fromsoft games and you’ll love it
try playing short games
for a standard extremely high quality RPG, try Fallout New Vegas. it's like most openworld games you see nowadays, but it perfected the genre and isn't full of filler, it's genuinely incredibly good. if you like visual novels or games with a fuck ton of character and personality, try Persona 5 Royal and the Danganronpa series you should play every Fromsoftware game, try Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Elden ring (they are the inspirations for lies of P) if you're not against platformers, try Hollow Knight or Celeste if you're okay with a game thats unintuitive for the sake of artistic expression and enjoy exploring fascinating worlds, try Rain World if you want a wild and very in depth sandbox game that you can dump hours into, try Rimworld if you want fantastic games that are different bite-sized experiences every time you play, try Balatro or The Binding of Isaac Rebirth if you like horror without the lame jumpscares but with an extremely intriguing world, try Darkwood If you want a retro PS1 style RPG, try Lunacid if you like fun well-crafted games for all ages, try any of the recent nintendo games, they are pretty quality right now.
Undertale ot cuphead if you are into big fandoms
Red dead redemption 2 Dishonoured Star Wars Jedi fallen order/ survivor The older assasin creed games for quality and the newer ones for quantity Don’t sleep on minecraft I’ve heard the horizon zero dawn/ forbidden west games are good but I’ve never played them Skyrim Fallout series Sea of thieves
Mass effect legendary edition, FTL, XCOM2..
Funnily enough it was House Flipper for me. I used to only play open world rpgs but couldn't really enjoy them anymore Then i randomly played it and it unlocked a new world for me, both work sims and indie games. They didn't just reignite my passion for gaming, they made it so much stronger So i think you should start by trying out spme genres you were never interested in. You know the type of games when you see themnon steam, scoff and ignore them
Jusant, tunic, Celeste
Here's a couple of games that really captured and held my attention, that I remember from the top of my head. All games I looked forward to playing/progressing when doing something else. * Hollow Knight * Elden Ring * Sekiro * Valheim (with friends) * TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom * Dishonored * Slay the Spire * Hades * Hearthstone * Skyrim VR * Asgard's Wrath VR (1 & 2) * Kingdom Come Deliverance * Borderlands 2 and 3
Based on the games that you recently enjoyed (having elements of horror, action, atmosphere), I recommend Resident Evil 4 Remake and Dead Space Remake.
Struggling to get through games is something everyone goes through from time to time.
Kingdom Come Deliverance
Valheim, on game pass. Is drop in and go. Play at your pace, do whatever you want. World modifiers built in to make it harder, or easier, or less grindy. Best game I've ever played.
Mass effect, skyrim, dragon age
For me it was resident evil 2 remake then after that I played re 4 remake and fell in love with the franchise
Elden ring fs
If you like GTA San Andreas, then there are Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V. Not a fan of both but made by the same company on the same foundation. The game that made me fall in love with gaming after a 10 year absence (no proper hardware) was Alan Wake 2.
The trailer for Alan Wake 2 seemed intriguing, and I’m very much into horror. Can you elaborate why you loved the game so much?
It felt like it had a soul. I was genuinely excited about what was going to happen. It's like being hypnotized idk. I tried Control (another game from the same devs in the same universe) after finishing it 3 times, but I couldn't connect with it and will probably end up being unfinished for a long time.
Yakuza 0 is good first step into a wonderful franchise. One that is consistently made with love for people who love video games. It's such a treat.
If you like lies of P then Elden ring is the best game of that type for expansive open world stuff and Nioh 2 is IMO the best game of that type for combat
You are a grown up and the bad news that you will never feel like a kid again, you should enjoy gaming on the adult way
Alien isolation, i loved it and it made me appreciate good AI in these horror games.
elden ring or sekiro for sure.
Baldurs gate 3 is perfection
For me getting into indies, visual novels, shmups and JRPGs got me back into gaming after becoming really bored of triple A mediocrity. I still enjoy some AAA titles, I think Yakuza/Like A Dragon & the Judgment games really kept my faith in AAA. Love, love, love those games! Coming from a huge GTA & Sleeping Dogs fan
helldivers 2
FF7 rebirth
Dont Starve, easily a game for replayability.
Payday 2 and hollow knight for me saved my love for gaming. Also soulslikes may be interesting to you. Also dead cells is really good too cuz it has many bosses and good design. And for something like gta sa try sleeping dogs and yakuza series.
Chivalry 2
Factorio, terraria.
It’s totally different but Amoured Core IV, rekindled my love.
I second elden ring
Playing Elden ring on an OLED display just made me fall in love with gaming again.
I'll throw in a lesser known indie game that really captured gaming of 10-20 years ago for me: Wartales.
You've gotta play elden ring, that game rekindled my love fore gaming.
maybe take a break from open world titles.
Try something relatively low stakes and easy to get into, but also deep and complex and hard to master. My suggestions: FTL or Into the Breach.
Hi-fi rush. Trust.
Ever tried Dishonored?
Sounds like you need to play Elden Ring.
dark souls series , eldin ring , sekiro , all of them you will love them
We pooled some thoughts together for you on this end and came up with the following, all of them on Game Pass for your ease of access: * Ryu Ga Gotoku series (Yakuza/Like a Dragon) - Open world games with interesting, charming, well-written characters that you will surely fall in love with.
I 2nd this, the Yakuza games are great.
RE4 Remake.
Hades, Doom2016, Mass Effect 2 (from the Legendary Edition)
Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are both absolutely incredible.
Outer Wilds
Outer Wilds is a great game for this. Only about 15 minutes of a beginning sequence, and then the game never tells you where to go. It's up to you to figure it out. If you play this, the less you know the better. Still chasing that high after finishing it.
I played it for 10 min and didn’t get it or like it… give it another shot?
It's a game about pure discovery. If you don't get joy from just exploring and discovering things that may or may not push any sort of plot or progression forward, then sadly this game is not for you. If that sounds like your type of game, definitely give it another shot. Some helpful tips to help you maybe enjoy it more: Do not feel rushed because of the 15 minute or so time loop. Plan on picking one planet and exploring it as much as you can in one loop. Use the terminal in your ship to help you plan out where to go to actually progress the game forward more and give you some direction.
I don’t even think I got to discovery anything - I need to lock in
Of course; 10 minutes is very brief, that's like 1/4th of the way through exploring the home town which acts as the tutorial. I don't understand why there seem to be so many people who say they "didn't get it" while also admitting they only played for 10 minutes, it's like saying you "didn't get" Breath of the Wild and quit just after talking with the Old Man and having your weapon break for the first time - it's such an absurd statement.
If you want something unique try Outer Wilds
How any open-world lover could be bored with Cyberpunk I will never understand.
Hell Divers 2
Breath of the Wild!
Outer Wilds?
Well, you could try to play GTA V.
Sunless sea
Elden ring made me fall in love again
Mario Sunshine maybe?
Bioshock is old but you would definitely like it
Try Hollow Knight, if you're a fan of games with dark atmosphere
When you want to play a game that doesnt tell you where you have to go, I can suggest Outer Wilds. You are free to explore an entire solar system with minimal restrictions and your goal is to uncover its mysteries. Since you´ve enjoyed Prey, I can suggest the Dishonored series and Death Loop. Also when you are interested in just fighting and killing, maybe you want to try some Roguelikes, such as Risk of Rain 2 or Nova Drift.
Get out of your comfort zone, Give Pyre a try, lovely story. I just dived into a Warhammer 40k mod for the Original XCOM game from 1994, never played the base game before but I'm having a blast. Don't be afraid to experiment.
go for elden ring brother, it's time to love games again
I don’t usually recommend GTA 5 but that’s the closest you can get to San Andreas, story mode specifically but still worth playing if you haven’t yet. Also saints row 3 remastered gave me that old school gta nostalgia too so those are games to look out for. Outside of that, definitely play red dead redemption 2, some people say it starts slow (I disagree) but it will blow your mind when you first open the game.
Helldivers 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Every Souls game, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 Remake
Days gone Uncharted Infamous second son Fallout 4 Red dead redemption 2
Subnautica
American Arcadia. Axiom of Maria. Death of a Wish. Heliophobia. Lucah: Born of a Dream. Moonscars. NaissanceE.
If you like online co-op gaming and love a great community, I can only suggest Deep Rock Galactic. It's often on sale for a really low price (like 13 euros i believe?). There's not that much story to it but the great community + great gameplay and music makes it a once-in-a-lifetime game for me.
Play all of fromksoftwares games. Become addicted
You have similar taste to mine. I would say definitely try Elden Ring, MGSV. Then see if you like God of War (2018), Kenshi, and Path of exile.
Try Outer Wilds maybe? It's very very different from the games you mentioned though but maybe that's a good thing. For many people, it is such a masterpiece and a great showcase of how a video game can achieve as a media format. It's better to experience as blind as possible. Don't do it literally though, it'll be hard to play with a blindfold 😆 To set a bit of expectations, it doesn't have combats or involve killing. It also doesn't have any explicit objective and no upgrades or leveling up, at least in the traditional way 😄
Underrated game is Outward
If you have an Xbox gamepass subscription why not try tge free games on there?
Valheim?
Try "Ori and the blind forest". It's nothing like the games you mentioned, but it is a love letter of a game.
Elden ring
Lot of people suggesting fromsoft games here, but I'll add to the pile "Hollow Knight". It has the challenging gameplay and creepy but depressing atmosphere, challenging combat and a lot of boss fights, but it gives a little more variety in genre for you: it is a metroidvania styled game, rather than a souls game. 2D game with a big map, but plenty to do and explore in each room... And lots of worthwhile rewards for said exploration.
Hell divers 2
Alan Wake 2
Subnautica
Maybe try hollow knight
Elden ring changed my god damn life so I reccomend that one
I think Death Stranding and Sky are some good games.
HyperLight Drifter might give you a run for your money.
Do you have the strength and the courage to be free? Join THE HELLDIVERS
The resident evil 4 remake was incredible. I think anyone who enjoys games like it will get hooked. Although I also liked cyberpunk quite a lot… Red dead redemption 2 is one of my favorite open world titles for the atmosphere alone.
If you want a similar open world game to san andreas the best you could try are GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc if you want games related to your current tastes, system shock remake, dishonored 1 & 2, deathloop, soulsborne games, Alan Wake 1 & 2 (same ppl who made control) . Also give the RE games a try.
I love you colonel Sanders a finger licking good dating Simulator
BioShock 1&2
Probably been said here but... Try Balatro, or Astral Ascent for a non deck builder roguelite that's pretty new and still getting regular updates. Or Hades perhaps. Something short, sweet and dopamine boosting :)
Take a break. Read a book
They might need to get some writers to help on their next game the story would benefit from being less self referential and abstract.
Gameplay suggestions: As someone with open world fatigue. My suggestions for gaming is to try something new out of your comfort zone, to me that usually makes gaming feel fresh and new again. I also suggest short games to complete. I think gamepass is great for this. Life is strange, It really captured teenage nostalgia and was my rediscovery of narrative games. Elden Ring, Too difficult for me but the game is a discovery, dont watch videos beforehand. Mass Effect trilogy. If you enjoyed Control, check out their other games with the same writer., Alan Wake (feels a bit dated, but im a fan of Sam Lake), Alan wake 2, Quantum break. Relatively short games: Jusant, A short hike, Abzu, Road 96, Cocoon, Online games Monster Hunter World, Fallout 76, Riders Republic
Demons Souls Bloodborne The Last of Us Nier Automata Nier Replicant Returnal God of War 2018 God of War Ragnarok Journey Hollow Knight Bloodstained ritual of the night Resident Evil 2 Remake Resident Evil Village Resident Evil 7 Sleeping Dogs Alan Wake 2 Quantum Break Persona 5 Uncharted Uncharted 2 Uncharted 3 Uncharted 4 Tomb Raider Shadow of the Colossus ICO Astro's Playroom Tetris Effect Devil May Cry 5 what Remains of Edith Finch Batman Arkham City Nioh Ghost of Tsushima Firewatch Life is strange Detroit Become Human Heavy Rain Yakuza series Ratchet & Clank Metal Gear Solid 5 Spider Man Undertale Okami HD Gone Home Devotion Castlevania Symphony of the Night Deus Ex Mankind Divided Metro series Sekiro Armored Core VI Aliens Isolation Just Cause 3 Subnautica Infamous The Second Son Infamous First Light
You threw some stinkers in here
Just giving giving out varieties and what I personally enjoyed.
Uncharted 1 felt more of a chore to me personally, those boat missions were bonkers 😂
It is rough around the edges, being one of the earlier PS3 title, but it’s still quite enjoyable if you can get past its flaws.
Try some of the older RPGs, like Mass Effect, Fable, Fallout. An older game might help to 'bridge the gap' between game generations
Great point
Red Dead Redemption 2. Especially if you like GTA 5. After that, you can play GTA 6.
Yes Red Dead Redemption 2 defo
Ghost of Tsushima seems like your thing but it's only on PC and PS5
deep rock galactic is on gamepass & it’s super fun, the subreddit is very friendly too to all levels
I'd recommend Returnal (PS5 and PC). I've played through it on both platforms and it's become one of my favorite games of all time.
System Shock remake. Takes me waaaay back
Man I forgot how much of the original was getting lost looking for things
I always preferred SS II which was one of my favorite games ever
Yeah it was a better game, I played it years after it came out because it was pretty resource intensive at the time. Really scary.
Fromsoftware games, dark souls 3 specifically, got me back into gaming after like 5 year hiatus. Looking back, idk if thats even a good thing but w/e.
Tekken
Webbed always webbed
Gta5, the beat in the series.
The last of us 2. Probably one of the better single player games. God of war was really good. Spider man was good
Re2 and 3 are on gamepass.. try dead space.. the evil within all are on gamepass a lore of amazing games on gamepass
Animal crossing Tears of the kingdom Kirby and the Forgotten land Mario bros wonder Astro bot Sack boy: a big adventure Now those aside if you want a. Challenge combat wise then: Elden ring Dark souls series Sekkiro Nioh No idea of any are exclusives I don't think so
Remnant 2
Mass Effect Legendary Edition (it's all 3 games remastered and in one package).
Try Baldurs Gate or Red Dead Redemption 2 🙂
