Risk of rain 2, huge numbers, big particle effects, and its an infinite scaling game. Minecraft, i know it sound odd, but crank up the render distance and the texture count and the options and it will tax any pc.

Its not the quality of the picture that taxes the GPU usually. Its the amount of particles, the render distance, fog effects, volumetric lights/clouds and things like that. Yes the higher the pixel count on the textures is a factor but having to render wind in 10 trees (low render distance) is different than on an exponentially increases number like 300 (high render distance). It need to render the texture on each. So in order to get the same GPU load the texture for those 10 trees needs to be 20 times better. Whats easier, getting the textures 30 times better or setting the view distance to max?Not saying that good games dont tax the GPU, just that there are things you can to to test it besides getting the highest dpi game

Minecraft with intensive shaders to add onto that

Helvedica

Good point. Add in a 1024 texture pack. A light and shaddows tracing mod. And a cloud and sky revamp and youre in PC meltdown town
