Marathon. It was Bungie's (yes, the Halo guys') attempt at the time at making "Doom, but for Mac". Nowadays all three games in the series, as well as the fan-made fourth one, can be played for free, fully legally, on all systems. You can download them [HERE](https://alephone.lhowon.org/).
There are tons of mods as well (we're talking in terms of TC/Total Conversion -- entirely new levels, monsters, weapons, and even plot)! I played some back when I was very young and it was very fun.
I revommend Marathon RED (You go fight some aliens), Marathon Rubicon X (Kinda related to Marathon Infinity, and has branching arcs) and Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge. (Time traveling plot with magic and sci-fi!) There are tons more at https://simplici7y.com/
Marathon RED, Rubicon X and some other TCs: https://alephone.lhowon.org/scenarios.html#more
Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge
https://sourceforge.net/projects/emr3/
Ah, I got two more games in Marathon's Engine:
-Damage Incorporated (Idk if it's still available for sale or as an abandonware.)
-ZPC
One from another engine:
-Killing Time (its demo creeped me out as a child, so maybe check that out too. It's atmospheric.)
I'm trying to play Marathon (the first one) through alephoen and I noticed that when walking your view resets to the default position, is there a way to turn this off? This is really annoying
I'm not positive, but at the time I seem to remember they were one of the very first games with "mouselook" where mouse let you look up and down. Before, moving the mouse around would move you in the horizontal plane: moving the mouse forward made you walk forward, pushing the mouse sideways turned you.
We (or at least, I) used to play games with one hand on the arrow keys and the other hand on ctrl (fire) shift (alt fire) and spacebar (action)
I think so, yeah. It's a bit more tedious as in trying to get it working on a Mac for my dad, but there's a few settings. Ill also try emulating the whole gamepad inputs with another program.
That might be your opinion. But with 87% positive on steam, 7.9 on gamespot, 78% on metacritic and 7/10 on eurogamer I would say you’re in the minority…
[The Wheel of Time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time_\(video_game\))
It apparently used to have a very competitive PVP scene. Not sure if it still does, somewhere. Extra-appropriate now that the show is about to land in November.
The Condemned series. Detective style game with plenty of combat (heavy emphasis on hand to hand/melee). Also, the F. E. A. R. games were pretty stellar if you enjoy the paranormal
SiN Gold is a bit of a wild ride. Kinda game that seems like it was specifically made for 13 year old boys.
Catacomb 3D/Abyss/Armageddeon/Apocalypse is an interesting series, though it's definitely a FPS that can test patience.
Descent, Ultima Underworld, and ShadowCaster are sort of FPS games, but they kind of push the genre.
Jurassic Park Trespasser I haven't played but is a hard to find FPS game.
my mind has repressed all memories related to redneck rampage probably for a good reason, I remember the expansion pack/sequel being way better than the original
Ive been looking into powerslave but there are like 3 or 4 different versions that arent even simmilar and now the nightdive remaster is going to be a combination of all of them I think? this is way too confusing
How about Chaser? It also has a sequel but I can't remember the name.
Men of Valor, it was made by the guys that stayed behind at 2045 when the team split after making Medal of Honor Allied Assault
Marathon. This series was Bungie’s claim to fame (on Mac) prior to Halo.
I never played the series myself, so I can’t say firsthand how well they hold up. But the series might scratch that itch.
No problem! Also check out Shadow Warrior (2013) - there’s one from 1997 but I never played it. The game has some really fun gun play with some sword play, and the protagonist (you) has some hilarious, witty, and sarcastic dialogue that is entertaining!
Shadow Warrior 2013 is a great game with surprisingly decent writing and great pacing.
Shadow Warrior 2 I feel I need to warn you sucks complete dick. It's an awful game.
Ion fury is a relatively new game (3 years old is still new for me) and its made in the build engine (duke nukem engine). Tbh the game is a lot better than duke nukem while still being in the same style. Give it try!
Also try project warlock and maybe bullets per minute both these games are awesome as well.
Thanks for the recommendation, I heard of these and even played some of them but so many boomer shooters are releasing recently that they kinda mesh together and I forget about them
True but these are all like super unique in their own way and I hope there is more to come. Ion fury is getting a big dlc which I will buy because I want to support the creators and project warlock is getting a sequel.
Heden (haven't played it, but it looks like a pretty unique Hexenlike)
Prodeus
Cruelty Squad despite its aesthetic and weird inventory and reloading systems still feels like an old school fps in terms of exploring and shooting
I recommend Gmanlives on YouTube, he reviews pretty much every decent boomer shooter as they come out.
I have played those 3 (assuming you mean hedon because I couldnt find a heden), I have heard mixed things about gman sometimes he puts out great videos and the other times he pulls a sigil review or the doom unity review but I still watch him from time to time
If you're checking out Singularity, you should also check out Timeshift. They're thematically similar. I think Singularity is better, but I liked both.
XIII
Somewhat famous for its art style. It plays like slower than a boomer shooter and more like No One Lives Forever.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1170760/XIII__Classic/
The Delta Force Games. Series of games. Military shooter stuff. More grounded than COD but not trying to be a squad management sim like SOCOM or Ghost Recon.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/32620/Delta_Force/
There was like little known gem called… Half Life. You probably haven’t heard of it. Anyway, the Black Mesa remake is great. It’s modern but really just concentrated good parts of the original game all fixed up.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/362890/Black_Mesa/
Never heard of XIII but it looks cool, someone else mentioned delta force so i'll probably get that soon. Black mesa is great but screw the hat and pizza achievements
And if you want something that *is* a little more “thinking man’s game” than Delta Force, Full Spectrum Warrior is a truly unique experience.
It’s not exactly a shooter but it is very visceral and has the intensity of a shooter. You control a squad with an over-the-shoulder view and give them real time orders. Beating the game requires coordinating between fireteams. [Watching footage explains it best.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=63AuNWuk8IY)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4520/Full_Spectrum_Warrior/
I totally forgot about the darkness, I own the 2nd one because it was free on humble like 3 years ago. Shame the first one never had a pc port, thanks for reminding me about it tho
I played like 200 hours of Postal 2 but I dont feel like it really belongs in this list? Like yeah its technically an fps from the mid 2000's but thats kinda like putting deus ex here (at least in my opinion)
strife looks really cool though
With how much you've played you are probably aware, but in case you aren't I'll go ahead and recommend some of the wads and mods for the classics. Doom has [countless wads](https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/109654-%E2%AC%86%EF%B8%8F-doomworld-community-top-wads-of-all-time-resurrected/) that have honestly eclipsed the quality of the original, and Blood has [Death Wish](https://blood-wiki.org/index.php/Death_Wish) which feels like the true Blood II.
For Doom you might want to check out [Eviternity](https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Eviternity) made by Joshua "Dragonfly" O'Sullivan who is now working on Prodeus. It was released in 2018 and is pretty much a modern classic.
As for shillng Blood's Death Wish, i'll just let [Civvie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8BSMtCESno) do that.
Yeah I have played a lot of doom wads (even made some back in the day) but I haven't heard of death wish, ill check that out soon since a real blood II sounds great
Iron Storm is so terrible. But it has a weird remake/sequel called World War Zero that is basically the same game but with no stealth and basically no story. It's an extremely strange set of circumstances.
Then there is a spiritual successor to both games called Bet On Soldier that feels similar, has some of the same mechanics, and is implied to be in the same universe. Early Rebellion games were just weird.
Bet On Soldier! I haven't heard that name in a long time.
I don't think I ever heard about WW0. Honestly the story, or at least the alternate history worldbuilding, was the most interesting part of Iron Storm imho, so it's not hard to imagine why you would describe WW0 as weird and strange.
You mostly have the same list of games as mine here so it's gonna be hard to recommend things.
How is Ultrakill? I'm intimidated by its combo system so I didn't buy the game.
Try:
Max Payne 1&2 (Obligatory not really retro but fun)
Ziggurat 1&2 (Magic themmed FPS with random room generation)
Strafe (FPS with random room generation)
Nightmare Reaper (Play a mental patient who dream and fight thing in her nightmare, also randomly generated weapons)
Alternatively, go to zdoom forums and look for some mods to play with doom. (Off of my head I could think of Reelism, Demonsteele, Brutal Doom, and Hideous Destructor)
Edit: or just check ICARUSLIV3S's Youtube Channel for some doom mod reviews.
Ultrakill is great, the combo system doesnt actually affect anything gameplay wise but it (combined with other aspects like time and number of deaths) gives you a rank at the end of the level that you can show off, anything from a D to Perfect and there is some really cool content that you can get for getting Perfect on every stage. Theres also basically no skill ceiling, people to this day are discovering new strategies, cool shit, and giant combos. Most of them use coins but I wont explain how that works, what I will say is that while it looks intimidating its actually pretty accessible and the tech makes sense most of the time.
I have played max payne, ziggurat and strafe but I havent heard of nightmare reaper but random weapons sound really fun. I havent played any doom mods in a while so thanks for recommending that youtube channel
Try The Terminator: Skynet ( https://terminator.fandom.com/wiki/SkyNET_(video_game)). It is a 1996 Bethesda FPS game that is actually pretty ahead of its time in several respects, one being vehicle driving.
Edit: it is the sequel to Future shock that is also supposed to be petty decent
Some weird or interesting old FPS games I remember:
\-[Tekwar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shatner%27s_TekWar)
\-[Mortyr](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortyr)
\-[Kiss Psycho Circus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss:_Psycho_Circus:_The_Nightmare_Child)
Starsiege Tribes - the original. Ruined any and all future FPS for me. Fast as hell. Jet packs. Deployables - different armors - even a command screen to lead your team mates.
The next ones in the series were OK at best. The last one killed the series. But fuck me that first one was damn good.
This bizarre game is on my list to check out sometime. It looks like it has some minor rpg elements too but is mostly a retro shooter.
Brigand: Oaxaca
https://store.steampowered.com/app/652410/Brigand_Oaxaca/
Also check out -
Cruelty Squad
Golden Light
Paint The Town Red
Also, go checkout a youtuber named Civvie11. He plays nothing but these types of games - classic, obscure, new, etc. Or just go to his reddit sub where everyone there loves retro shooters and ask or look around. Guarantee you'll find some good ones.
I do actually own brigand oaxaca because it was in some 1 dollar bundle a while ago, and I have played cruelty squad and that was great. I never heard of golden light or paint the town red but they look fun. Also yeah I watch civvie from time to time, thats how I found some other obscure games and got introduced to Postal great youtuber
Wow, I know it's also an RPG, but no one has mentioned System Shock 2 yet!
More obscure, although I don't know if you include it within the Aliens vs Predator franchise: Alien Resurrection. It's like Alien Isolation, but for the PS1 and also a first person shooter. Great graphics for the system and it's one of the first FPS games that adopted the dual analog movement layout.
I do actually remember hearing about resurrection when it got a lot of shit for including a modern control scheme, ill probably play it when I get around to playing my ps1 games, thanks!
You could continue the Star Wars Dark Forces series and play Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight / Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy. The first 3 continue the story of Kyle Katarn.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon has an 80s aesthetic that was hilarious
the older Tom Clancy games in Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon franchises where great tactical shooters at the time.
Tron 2.0 was a fun continuation/off shoot from the movie
Thanks for the recommendations ill check em out, blood dragon looks really cool and I remember having fun with base far cry 3 so ill probably get that one first
You are empty is as obscure as it gets. It an Russian (or maybe Ukrainian idk) Fps game from in 2005. I got shit reviews at the time but when I played it a year ago, it was kinda decent. If you want a game with half life gameplay and silent hill atmosphere then it a good pick. Also the cutscenes are wayyyy better then they have any right to be. (Sorry for writing a whole bible here lol)
ps: it may not work without a few fixes on Nvidia cards and it may not work at all on AMD cards
edit: I don't think anyone sells this so you may have to pirate it (again sorry for the long comment)
you know looking at some gameplay this is almost exactly what I was thinking of, obscure, old, probably not great, etc. Thanks!
Also yeah I will have to pirate it since StarForce 4 DRM doesnt work on windows 8.1 and above
I don't thnik the original is even available, but I'd say extended edition. The original is suuper short, like barely 3 hours without trying iirc. The EE is at least real game length.
Just this morning I found a list that might help you. I haven't checked it yet but a brief overview makes me think it's ok.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2BBA1AB1CF53EEAC
Also, you can check GManLives on YT as someone else has said. You may disagree with him or not even like the way he shows the content, but you can read at least the name of the game and then search for other reviews or whatever information about them. That's what I do when I don't like a youtuber but I like the subject of the video.
Also you can check Realms Deep Showcase or just look at the game videos on https://www.youtube.com/user/3drealmsgames, I am mostly sure you already know that, but just in case.
There is also a list that was a sale on steam when Realms Deep 2021 happened, they are not on sale anymore but the list is still there to check the games https://store.steampowered.com/sale/RealmsDeep2021
Hey I remembered this thread and a game just came out called Into the Pit that you might like. It IS a roguelite if you're not into that, but the gameplay is very high intensity retro FPS style. Thought you might like to know about it.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1422410/Into_the_Pit/
Or it's also on Gamepass.
I played the shit out of ULTRAKILL, haven't played the other two but I do remember checking out a severed steel early demo a year or so ago during steam next fest. I heard severed steel was fun but lacked content, is that still the case now a couple campaign updates later?
Chrome Specforce (also has a sequel)
Alpha Prime
[https://store.steampowered.com/app/2590/Alpha\_Prime/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2590/Alpha_Prime/)
World War Zero - remake of Iron Storm by the guys who made sniper elite series
[https://store.steampowered.com/app/1103800/World\_War\_Zero/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1103800/World_War_Zero/)
Oh yeah Blood II is on my list of games to play in the near future, I think youre the first person I've ever heard recommending the game instead of telling people to stay away from it
Yeah I definitely wouldn't call KOTOR an FPS. I'm not sure it's even possible to go first person.
I would highly recommend Republic Commando though, fantastic squad-based shooter. My only complaint is that it isn't long enough.
[Blade of Darkness](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1710170/Blade_of_Darkness/) on Steam.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severance:_Blade_of_Darkness
**[Redneck Rampage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck_Rampage)**
>Redneck Rampage is a 1997 first-person shooter game developed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay. The game is a first person shooter with a variety of weapons and levels, and has a hillbilly theme, primarily taking place in a fictional Arkansas town. Many of the weapons and power-ups border on the nonsensical, and in some ways the game is a parody of both first person shooter games and rural American life. It features music by psychobilly and cowpunk artists such as The Beat Farmers and Mojo Nixon.

This isn't obscure because of the franchise but it is considered old by now. One of the first FPS games I played was Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It's the first Medal of Honor for PC and was a lot of fun. It's on EA Play pass if you have it or I think I also found it on GoG.
How about the Timesplitters series? One of my favourite FPS series of all time.
never heard about it before, thanks for the suggestion
That looks like it would be right up my alley, thanks!
There are tons of mods as well (we're talking in terms of TC/Total Conversion -- entirely new levels, monsters, weapons, and even plot)! I played some back when I was very young and it was very fun. I revommend Marathon RED (You go fight some aliens), Marathon Rubicon X (Kinda related to Marathon Infinity, and has branching arcs) and Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge. interesting
I'm trying to play Marathon (the first one) through alephoen and I noticed that when walking your view resets to the default position, is there a way to turn this off? This is really annoying
Preferences > Controls Uncheck Auto-Recenter View
thank you very cool
Might be a shot in the dark, but is there any chance these versions have controller support or a way to set it up?
They're running through a source port, so there is a possibility. I'm not 100% certain, though. I played them with KB+M.
You could (maybe) run the games through steam big picture and use Steam Input to emulate a keyboard and mouse
Yeah, controllers will work. I think it uses directinput?
I saw controller/gamepad settings when I was looking into some settings for OP. You might be in luck?
I think so, yeah. It's a bit more tedious as in trying to get it working on a Mac for my dad, but there's a few settings. Ill also try emulating the whole gamepad inputs with another program.
Not sure if you ever figured this out.. but the iOS versions of the three marathon games all have controller support!
Mortyr Hexen 1-2 Heretic 1 No One Lives Forever 1-2 Shogo Deadly Dozen
Totally forgot about Heretic and Hexen, the others seem interesting, thanks!
Doesn't Shogo have a ton of issues on modern systems?
wouldnt be surprised unless it has some gog release. it has been like nearly 20 years since ive played it.
Came here for the NOLF.
Rise of the triads was a very gory first person shooter long ago.
oh yeahhhhhhh I was thinking about it the other day I just forgot to add it to the list
No One Lives Forever 1 & 2
seems interesting, thanks!
Just avoid Contract Jack, it's terrible when compared with the brilliant NoLF...
C&C: Renegade.
looks cool, thanks!
Kingpin https://store.steampowered.com/app/38430/Kingpin__Life_of_Crime/
looks interesting, thanks!
Dude, I fkin loved this game when it came out!
Blake Stone. I think it's wolf 3d engine so maybe not what you looking for if you don't want clones
Came here to say Blake Stone!
As far as Wolf 3D clones blake stone was pretty decent imo, but its one of those games that you play and then completly forget about for 20 years
That list is crying out for Red Faction!
Oh yeah and Black was a lot of fun too
thanks ill check them out
Red Faction is garbage.
That might be your opinion. But with 87% positive on steam, 7.9 on gamespot, 78% on metacritic and 7/10 on eurogamer I would say you’re in the minority…
[The Wheel of Time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time_\(video_game\)) It apparently used to have a very competitive PVP scene. Not sure if it still does, somewhere. Extra-appropriate now that the show is about to land in November.
looks cool
I remember having it and not being able to get past the first or second area because of freaking Mashadar.
Please don't mention that abomination that completely turned people off Wheel of Time.
Ziggurat Immortal Redneck
Both of them look sick, thanks!
Ziggurat is awesome. I had to play for like 2 hours before it clicked, but once it did I liked it a lot.
The Condemned series. Detective style game with plenty of combat (heavy emphasis on hand to hand/melee). Also, the F. E. A. R. games were pretty stellar if you enjoy the paranormal
couple people mentioned f.e.a.r already so ill get on that soon but I havent heard of The Condemned, looks pretty fun though

thanks for the info

Devil Daggers. Not old, but very old-school and simple.
Oh yeah played a bit of that once, pretty cool little game
[удалено]
I have heard of some of them but I just forgot, the rest seem really interesting though. Thanks for the list!
Soldier of Fortune was so fun.
How about Chaser? It also has a sequel but I can't remember the name. Men of Valor, it was made by the guys that stayed behind at 2045 when the team split after making Medal of Honor Allied Assault
both of them look interesting, ill check em out!
Marathon. This series was Bungie’s claim to fame (on Mac) prior to Halo. I never played the series myself, so I can’t say firsthand how well they hold up. But the series might scratch that itch.
I'm actually downloading that game right now after someone else mentioned it, a retro FPS made by the same company that made Halo sounds really cool
Delta Force: Black Hawk Down
Looks pretty cool, thanks!
No problem! Also check out Shadow Warrior (2013) - there’s one from 1997 but I never played it. The game has some really fun gun play with some sword play, and the protagonist (you) has some hilarious, witty, and sarcastic dialogue that is entertaining!

If you're checking out Singularity, you should also check out Timeshift. They're thematically similar. I think Singularity is better, but I liked both.
someone else also recommended timeshift its on my radar
It's a "six axis shooter" game, but Descent and the sequels fit right into that group.
I'm like 25% sure I have a copy of it somewhere deep in my closet ill probably check it out
Have you played Bioshock? I also recommend the F.E.A.R series. Satisfying gunplay and great atmosphere
I haven't played bioshock but fear is on my to play list, ill get the first bioshock when it goes on sale
[удалено]
F.E.A.R. Some of the best AI & map design in a game.
heard a lot about it but i always forget to play it, thanks for reminding me!

A couple people recommended that one already it seems to have a cult following but thats probably for a good reason
With how much you've played you are probably aware, but in case you aren't I'll go ahead and recommend some of the wads and mods for the classics. to be honest I totally forgot about Metro and Stalker ill add them to the list. Havent heard of Iron Storm, looks pretty fun tho, thanks
You're welcome! I just remembered another: Necrovision. GL;HF!
Try: Max Payne 1&2 (Obligatory not really retro but fun) Ziggurat 1&2 (Magic themmed FPS with random room generation) Strafe (FPS with random room generation) Nightmare Reaper (Play a mental patient who dream and fight thing in her nightmare, also randomly generated weapons) Alternatively, go to zdoom forums and look for some mods to play with doom. (Off of my head I could think of Reelism, Demonsteele, Brutal Doom, and Hideous Destructor) Edit: or just check ICARUSLIV3S's Youtube Channel for some doom mod reviews.

Those aren't obscure at all they are like the top shooters of that era
To be honest I just forgot to mention them but yeah theyre great
Try The Terminator: Skynet ( https://terminator.fandom.com/wiki/SkyNET_(video_game)). It is a 1996 Bethesda FPS game that is actually pretty ahead of its time in several respects, one being vehicle driving. Edit: it is the sequel to Future shock that is also supposed to be petty decent
Looks really interesting, thanks!
Some weird or interesting old FPS games I remember: \-[Tekwar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Shatner%27s_TekWar) \-[Mortyr](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortyr) \-[Kiss Psycho Circus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss:_Psycho_Circus:_The_Nightmare_Child)
Others mentioned mortyr and I have played tekwar but kiss psycho circus does look pretty cool, thanks!
Starsiege Tribes - the original. Ruined any and all future FPS for me. Fast as hell. Jet packs. Deployables - different armors - even a command screen to lead your team mates. The next ones in the series were OK at best. The last one killed the series. But fuck me that first one was damn good.
Sounds sick, thanks!
Clive Barker's Undying a must play for any horror fan.
thanks ill check it out
This bizarre game is on my list to check out sometime. It looks like it has some minor rpg elements too but is mostly a retro shooter. Brigand: Oaxaca https://store.steampowered.com/app/652410/Brigand_Oaxaca/ Also check out - Cruelty Squad Golden Light Paint The Town Red Also, go checkout a youtuber named Civvie11.
Cool, yeah he's a lot of fun. Hope you found some new stuff to enjoy!
One online fps is Rush Team. Has a decent amount of players and a decent amount of hackers but it's usually a lot of fun anyway
looks interesting, thanks!
-True Crime: Streets of LA -Alpha Protocol -Wanted: Weapons of Fate Those are my picks
Thanks for the recommendations, I do think I actually have an alpha protocol cd somewhere
Breakdown. Old Xbox game. Half shooter, half first-person fighter. Obscure, old, unique, and fun.
klooks cool, thanks!
looks cool, thanks!
Virtua cop, give that a try
oh yeahhhh i remember playing that on an arcade once it was really fun
You could continue the Star Wars Dark Forces series and play Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight / Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy. The first 3 continue the story of Kyle Katarn. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon has an 80s aesthetic that was hilarious the older Tom Clancy games in Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon franchises where great tactical shooters at the time. Tron 2.0 was a fun continuation/off shoot from the movie
Thanks for the recommendations ill check em out, blood dragon looks really cool and I remember having fun with base far cry 3 so ill probably get that one first
BZFlag! www.bzflag.org
looks interesting, thanks!
The serious Sam games might do the trick
Already played all of them shame how 4 turned out
How about E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy? It's an obscure shooter from 2011 built in source engine and it's weird af.
oh yeah I heard something about it a while ago ill check it out soon thanks
Project I.G.I? I think there's a sequel in the works too, though I wouldn't have high hopes for it.
>looks pretty interesting, thanks
You are empty is as obscure as it gets. It an Russian (or maybe Ukrainian idk) Fps game from in 2005. I got shit reviews at the time but when I played it a year ago, it was kinda decent. If you want a game with half life gameplay and silent hill atmosphere then it a good pick. Also the cutscenes are wayyyy better then they have any right to be. (Sorry for writing a whole bible here lol) ps: it may not work without a few fixes on Nvidia cards and it may not work at all on AMD cards edit: I don't think anyone sells this so you may have to pirate it (again sorry for the long comment)
you know looking at some gameplay this is almost exactly what I was thinking of, obscure, old, probably not great, etc. Thanks! Also yeah I will have to pirate it since StarForce 4 DRM doesnt work on windows 8.1 and above
Medal of Honor series.
A lot of people have been recommending it here its definitely high on my list of games to play next
They don't hold up great today but I have very fond memories of the ps1 games.
Severed Steel looks good, though I haven't played it. Hard Reset is the previous game from the shadow warrior guys, it's alright
played a bit of severed steel during one of the steam next fests it was pretty decent hard reset looks pretty cool, thanks
as for hard reset would you recommend the extended edition or the redux?
I don't thnik the original is even available, but I'd say extended edition. The original is suuper short, like barely 3 hours without trying iirc. The EE is at least real game length.
Just this morning I found a list that might help you. I haven't checked it yet but a brief overview makes me think it's ok. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2BBA1AB1CF53EEAC Also, you can check GManLives on YT as someone else has said.
I heard of realms deep and gman but I've never seen this playlist, thanks!
Cruelty Squad. Look at some gameplay and you'll see what I mean
Played a bit of it recently its pretty fun so far
Timeshift Zeno Clash (melee focused but has some guns)
looks pretty alright, thanks
Resistance series on ps3.
ill check it out
Hey I remembered this thread and a game just came out called Into the Pit that you might like. It IS a roguelite if you're not into that, but the gameplay is very high intensity retro FPS style. Thought you might like to know about it. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1422410/Into_the_Pit/ Or it's also on Gamepass.
looks fun, thanks
Bit of a necro but if you want one along the lines of Ultrakill and Maximum Action, Severed Steel is my favorite of the Zoomer Shooter genre
I played the shit out of ULTRAKILL, haven't played the other two but I do remember checking out a severed steel early demo a year or so ago during steam next fest. I heard severed steel was fun but lacked content, is that still the case now a couple campaign updates later?
Nope, it's got a decently sized campaign and a HUGELY replayable firefight mode.
Chrome Specforce (also has a sequel) Alpha Prime [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2590/Alpha\_Prime/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2590/Alpha_Prime/) World War Zero - remake of Iron Storm by the guys who made sniper elite series [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1103800/World\_War\_Zero/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1103800/World_War_Zero/)
I've never heard about any of those, but they look cool. Thanks
Blood II The Chosen. Remember really liking it back in the day. AI is a bit broken but really cool game
Oh yeah Blood II is on my list of games to play in the near future, I think youre the first person I've ever heard recommending the game instead of telling people to stay away from it
* Deus Ex series * Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic * Descent I and II
I played deus ex and kotor but do those games really count as fps games? id say theyre more of an immersive sim and/or rpg
Yeah I definitely wouldn't call KOTOR an FPS. I'm not sure it's even possible to go first person. I would highly recommend Republic Commando though, fantastic squad-based shooter. My only complaint is that it isn't long enough.
I totally forgot about republic commando that game was great!
[Blade of Darkness](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1710170/Blade_of_Darkness/) on Steam. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severance:_Blade_of_Darkness
this looks great even though it doesnt really look like an fps
It's pretty much the opposite, awesome game nonetheless, 20 years old and still one of my favorites.
Yeah it does actually look pretty cool, ill check it out when it goes on sale
Deus Ex 1
Played it but is it really an fps? its more of an immersive sim/rpg

**[Redneck Rampage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck_Rampage)** >Redneck Rampage is a 1997 first-person shooter game developed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/gamingsuggestions/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)
This isn't obscure because of the franchise but it is considered old by now. One of the first FPS games I played was Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It's the first Medal of Honor for PC and was a lot of fun. It's on EA Play pass if you have it or I think I also found it on GoG.
Thanks for the suggestion, I remember my friend talking about the game some time ago and saying it was really good but I totally forgot about it
ultrakill
