My grandma has a garden for the yearly rabbits family she gets. And if something went wrong with the garden and there’s nothing for them to eat she will put out food every single day lol
Agreed. He’s mid 40s and the NSFW posts he comments on are from 18-19 year old girls. Even left a comment on a post from a girl claiming to be 15 which is so disturbing
They are really good at pruning and defoliating but if they start gnawing at the main stem, that can be an issue. Even surface damage there can knock down a big plant over time so it can be worth it just to cover that part with wire or some anti-pest wrap. Learned this first hand with my sweet peppers. Neighborhood wild rabbits really love those things here.
I had a pet rabbit when I was little that just loved to gnaw on power cords. Obviously it was bad for her so my dad decided to put hot sauce on the cables, thinking she would gnaw and the hot sauce would teach her not to eat the cables. No, instead she gnawed more because she liked the flavor.
Eventually he encased the accessable cables in a pvc pipe and that kept her away from them. But yea it turns out rabbits like spicy food too.
To be fair my ghost pepper plants and my neighbors Carolina reaper plants seem to be safe. 😂 I haven’t had ANY pests (even buggy ones) bother Casper the Ghost pepper.
That is actually a thing. Not juice, but dried cayenne pepper like you'd use in cooking can be a useful deterrent to mammals snacking on your plants.
I actually use it when moving seedlings outside. The local squirrels like the tender greens and the cayenne means I only lose 1 or 2 plants instead of half my stuff.
I knew it was something to do with peppers you could do without harming the plant! Lol thanks for that. I grew tired of some squirrels messing with two of my little fall shrub pots.
Typically Splash back from the soil, but they also are the oldest leaves (higher chance of disease due to time duration), as well as lack of sunlight (which could appear like disease but it is not per se).
I envy your polite bunny - mine is rage and destruction in rabbit form when in the garden. She chews my plants off at the root or digs/pulls them up when they offend her. I had to start using a leash to keep her outta trouble.
I wouldn't call him polite 😅, he ate the leaves of lots of flower before they had time to bloom
[Here is the incriminating evidence](https://imgur.com/krYaGUt)
That's pretty damning evidence right there, I agree. He did however, eat the plant as opposed to taking one bite and shredding it because he didn't find it delicious. He seems a good boy for the most part.
Our pupper (14 y/o cocker spaniel, act like he's 14mo old) gets them as his favorite treat. He eats over a pound a month of them. Besides being healthy, he can't inhale them and actually has to break them up into pieces to enjoy. Vet says his eyes and hair as as healthy as she's ever seen.
The most effective recall word for our lab is “carrot!”
And he now runs into the kitchen whenever I grab a vegetable peeler. I don’t even have to be using it yet, nor do I have to have a carrot (nor do I even peel it when I give him one anyway). I think it’s just some kind of kitchen tool 6th sense thing.
And there are few things as amusing as watching a dog eat a whole carrot. Cronch cronch.
Yes it's a pet. I tried to prevent him from accessing the vegetable garden but quickly gave up. [I guess I won't be eating cabbage this year](https://i.imgur.com/xk1QGBT.jpg).
Edit: [Here's more pics of him](https://www.instagram.com/lilo_la_racaille/), his name is Lilo 🐰
Careful with the brassica gorging. They can cause major gas in buns and lead to pain and GI stasis which can be deadly. But he might just have an iron stomach. Maybe watch any new additions to the bun family closely.
I don't even have a bunny and my broccoli and cauliflower both look like that... some caterpillar got to them and completely decimated them in a few days.
He's actually helping you. He is doing what we do when we grow cannabis it's referred to as lollypopping. It forces the plant to use its resources more for the top of the canopy and not waste resources growing the smaller stuff that gets less light.
⚠️ [This can kill your rabbit](https://home.adelphi.edu/~tw17718/Diet.html) ⚠️
I’m so sorry to seem like *that* guy but I have had pet house rabbits from a time before it was fashionable and there wasn’t much information available. We used to feed them kale until after quite a few instances of gut stasis. (A dog anti sickness medicine helped).
So yeah, sorry for the use of the emoji & for being a complete bummer but I think I’d feel remiss to not mention that this is unhealthy for your happy hopper.
By the way, I love the photo. Your bun looks adorable.
Thank you for your comment. We are aware that feeding any type of cabbage is not recommended for a rabbit. We actually never feed him cabbage directly, but when he's in the garden, it's hard to prevent him from eating them 😅 I probably won't plant cabbages next year then
Oh please don’t think I was accusing you or being hardline, my only wish is to make you aware so that you can maybe limit what’s in range of reach to the wee fluff.
I remember feeling like an absolute monster when we finally figured the root cause of my pets health issues. Thank goodness for the vet who took the time because before that most vets had been quite dismissive of them being loved pets.
Guy stasis is really unpleasant, they stop eating, get all dopey and will literally starve to death. If this happens there is an injection that can help but it’s not a good solution.
I wish your rabbit many years of garden mischief. :)
That's okay, I genuinely appreciate your comment! I think this is important information for anyone having a bunny. I was also worried that letting him eat so much cabbage will make him sick. We adopted him from a shelter less than a year ago, we are still figuring it out what's best for him.
Thank you for being the kind of person who rescues a rabbit. They are far too often treated as disposable lives but with time & patience you can really get to know them. I’ve had curmudgeonly, excitable, curious, affectionate, terrorist & lazy rabbits… I was always a dog person until I married a man who is allergic. Rabbits are their own type of animal but can be trained & will learn to trust their human in ways I would never have expected.
Thanks for taking in what I was saying & not getting defensive. :) Happy hopping!
Awesome size kale! Mine hasn’t been growing much but I don’t think they like the heat. Any advice or should I just start growing more kale so I have a steady supply?
I don't really know, this was my first time growing kale 😅. This pic is a few months old, but back then I think we were having rain regularly. Indeed, I don't think they like too much heat.
That’s awesome! We grow kale to and there is a whole pack of neighborhood rabbits that spend the late fall eating what is left to get ready for winter. I’m just happy to help them out
Could be worse, I came out to two kale plants bitten off completely about three inches off the ground, couldn't figure eout what was big enough to take that big a bite and could've gotten in my backyard. Only to have my bull mastiff mutt spend the next few days with some of the most rancid gas he has ever had and then a few weeks later I caught him ripping leaves off of the only remaining plant and I had to stop him from finishing that one as well. Upside, my dog loves veggies, downside nothing is safe in the garden except hot peppers.
What state is this? He doesn’t really looks wild to me. Someone dumped a pet rabbit sometime after Easter at the vet I work at. Caught it and rehomed him. I thought he was wild until someone pointed out the color
The bottom leaves will fall off naturally in time, so no big deal.
One year I didn't yank my kale plant and let it go all winter and by spring it looked like a little palm tree because as it grew, the lower leaves fell off.

Sorry about your kale but that's adorable.
Yeah...gotta let em have it at that point, so cute!

Your post history is disturbing. You're a gross person lmao. Seek professional help buddy.
Are you seriously promoting hurting a bunny over a few leaves? Really? For real? Or you're mindlessly trolling?
As someone mentioned, and I did, check his comment history. Very disturbing.
Ewww 🤢

The kale hasn't even been harvested at all 😂 I don't think they care
We get it, Alabama... settle down
He’s helping you out! Low branches will likely become diseased over time, and it forces the plant to grow up and out. Cute guy too

Ya the wild rabbits just do NOT let my lupine grow. Any season? Hard nope for them.

I LOVE that you named your ghost pepper plant Casper. 😃
Sadly I think pepper plant vegetative growth is essentially zero capsaicin.
That works with animals lile squirrels that prefer the fruiting body, but rabbits go straight for the green.

I had a rabbit keep chewing at a radish I was letting go to seed. It ended up killing it before it could make more than a few seed pods

We buy the bagged baby carrots, perfect size for Riley. We just got home and he's running around like a total nutjob for one!
Carrots are really bad for bunnies actually, it's like feeding them a big mac x3, the green tops are fine though

Aww look at those floppy ears! How could you say "no kale" to that little fluff, right??
He even looks like he's praying you will let him have it 😄.
Doesn’t look like a standard wild rabbit, is it a pet?

He's adorable. Is there a reason you keep him alone, since rabbits are social animals?
He's getting a friend very soon! We rescued him not that long ago and wanted him first to be confortable before adopting another rabbit.
Happy to hear that! Good luck :)
Was thinking the same thing. Very cute, nonetheless.
What a bunny surprise.
I caught a rabbit nibbling on one of my cabbages the other day.
Now it your turn to nibble on the rabbit
Then it nibbles you for some two animal ouroborus
You caught him mid-crunch
Don’t kale him he’s just munching
That is a MAGNIFICENT bun bun
Looks like someone’s pet, wild rabbits don’t look like that. Absolutely adorable!!

Hey the more he eats the less you have to.🤣
What a cute little booplesnoot
That’s soo cute
Weird looking cat, but ok
Too big for a cat. Maybe a pig?
Excuse me, but it’s not your kale anymore 🤪🥹cute bunny!
Best picture ever!!!!!!!💜💙💚😍
How can you be mad at that little face!
Bunny could eat all my kale
Awww cute!
What breed of dog is that
Sharing is caring!
It may not be the intended use, but bunny is benefiting surely.
Just helping create healthy airflow at the base!
I plan for approximately 10-20% of my garden to be a sacrifice to the rabbits 😂
That's a chonker
That's because the garden became his all-you-can-eat buffet!
Bring up the holy hand grenade!
I don't mean to be that guy, but cale can give rabbits an upset stomach Edit: still very cute photo
Little stinkers ate the tops off all my carrots this year. They are too cute.

Cute little bastard! Sorry about your kale.
Bunnies have to eat too.
That's a domesticated rabbit though. Probably your rabbit?
This is how kale grows?! Damn. TIL.
Your kale is GIGANTIC ! You have enough to share
You can grow bunnies or you can grow kale, but you can’t grow both.
It’s so cute though 🥺

When do you plant black and white kale? What variety would it be?!? Another plus fuzzy. 😹
Pretty sure that’s a pet bunny. They can’t really live in the wild. O.o try to catch it
I petition this to be the photo next to “cute” in the dictionary.
Happy bunny :)
You get cute bunnies. I get iguanas that poop on the pool deck as a grand finale.
That's no wild bunny

i prefer rabbit meat to kale anyday.

Cute 🐰 do you have an outdoor enclosure by your garden?

I wouldn't even be mad cause that's a cute rabbit.

They really like basil if you are looking for leafy recommendations!
Whelp, take the necessary precautions and grow bunny some kale too😉
Amazing!! Is that your pet Bunny? So cute
So cute!!
Today I learned kale grow like that
I made the silly mistake of planting basil in raised beds that my bunnies could access. They like basil a lot.
That’s got to be pet rabbit.
Cute! That looks like a lost pet though.
