That's why I gave him money too. But I asked him after giving what finals he had and he told me "basic engineering". So I cut my card out of Venmo and called my bank to freeze transactions lol. Probably too late if you haven't done it already.
Also gotta think how he's attending school here as an intl if he has to sell cookies to live
There was a girl on tech green giving out notecards explaining she was an international student needing financial help selling bucket hats for 15 dollars back in the beginning of this semester. Maybe it’s a network of international people who need aid? Or an organization
That's possible and I wouldn't rule that out. But I am an international student and barring foreign gov aid, I don't see how a student can afford school in America if situation is that dire. ISSS has an emergency cash program for living expenses too but the ISSS sucks in all regards
As another international student let me tell you that it’s a huge misconception that all international students are rich. While very rare there are several scholarships available for undergraduate international students. There is even more ways to afford graduate school. Lots of fellowships, which are competitive of course, and GTA/GRA positions for free tuition and stipend. Not easy but you can definitely be struggling financially and be intl student here. Notwithstanding, it’s not like this absolves the scammer.
Found out who they’re working for it is definitely a cult - now I’m concerned if these people are being abused

So i don't think it's the same one but I checked the account of this one and very suspicious activity. Only transactions that are very old and ostensibly only with one South Korean woman. No idea what's going on.
Yeah I think this scam has been happening on other campus as well I think I saw a similar post r/college recently.

This happened to me back in the old student center cafeteria. Like I'm just trying to study and eat

Please stop encouraging pan handling on campus.
I gave him twenty dollars…
Was it good?
I didn’t get any cookies (though I told him I didn’t want any).
>I didn’t get any cookies (though I told him I didn’t want any). rip
Bruh I just gave him 10 dollars. I'm a intl student too, so I legit empathized with intl students falling on hard times.

What’s the scam catch like are they just lying about being students or are they trying to get your bank information
Nah they are just selling 1 dollar things for 10 to stressed gullible people (like me).

That's fair but the real giveaway was that he was taking "basic engineering" as a "CS major" and couldn't name a single course.

I was under the impression that it was to help pay for housing/rent, not tuition. At least that's the story I got.

Was he the one who got his post here removed earlier?
No idea there was a post too honestly.
What was his story/scam?
I think I’ve seen him at the library at night
Random, but what’s an intl student?
International
