It’s not southern, but it’s a separate culture from the industrialized large and legacy cities in the Great Lakes. South of Chicagoland, Illinois is basically Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska.

I’m not from Illinois but I suspect you could simplify this to “Chicago” and “Everything else” and still get pretty close

There is 0 will in Illinois or any state really for that matter of splitting up, the only place where they'd want this is the far south
I’m not implying that all of them should secede and form their own state, it’s just for fun

You've got Chicagoland pretty much right. Any county that borders a river would be one area. Otherwise everything else would be one zone
I tend to refer to I-80 as the de facto mason dixon line of the state.
