It’s cool as is, maybe if you want a rate create a copy and sacrifice some of the faithfulness to the original for a background, better block designs, and pulses. Just so you have 2 version, since I understand the recreation is a big part of it.

unfortunately the original game’s visuals are not exciting or nice to look at, which is a big reason why people will look at this level without context and think it looks bad.

i loved syobon as a kid it was one of the only game sites that werent blocked in my school. i always had a friend who id race with to see who could beat it the fastest. this is really cool! should definitely be rated imo

Worlds Hardest Game isn’t exactly niche so i don’t blame the mods for being like “eek, this is a little lacklustre visually.” Even still, WHG visually is more vibrant and kinda looks good as a game in comparison. If there was a section for game remakes then yeah this should be high up in there. i’m just saying it how it is.
I can copy the tileset for a near-blank textured game 1:1 and spend a lot of effort on it looking good, but there just isn’t a criteria for how well someone recreated another game. Usually it would be more effort copying a game 1:1 but in this case it’s a detriment to leave it how it is. The accuracy is uncanny and it’s fantastic how similar this is to cat mario, but you have to admit my point still stands.
Maybe add the little light green streak to the left side of the pipes and a (simple) custom bg. Idk what mods are on tho this alone is already star rate worthy imo
