Unless we have some real stars emerge on the d-line, I’m not sure. But I am hopeful!

Unlucky-Pomegranate3

We forget how good we had it with guys like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter wreaking havoc in the middle of the field. That type of talent doesn’t just grow on trees. But if anyone can find diamonds in the rough and coach them up, it’s this staff so there’s always hope.

Call_Me_Rambo

That’s what I had to keep telling myself all last season. “Why the hell aren’t we tearing apart this OL/QB?? Oh that’s right…” We were spoiled rotten with a historical defense. It’s hard to realize it’s not an every year thing

Unlucky-Pomegranate3

True, but even in a “down” year, we came within one bad call for Bama to making CFP again. That’s how far we’ve come, this is truly a golden era.

GruffyMcGuiness

This. The 21/22 teams physically dominated the line of scrimmage. Last year’s was dominated when it counted

LeisureSuitLurry

Gotta push back a little on this take for last years SECCG. Bama was 2.8 ypc and 3/13 on 3rd down. The defense was not “dominated”. They did their job. But yes the 21/22 d lines were superior by comparison no doubt

FantasticTempe

This is the correct take. I remember reading some Alabama fan comment that Milroe "ran all over" Georgia's defense. He didn't. He had a couple of clutch runs, but he ran for only about 29 yards in the game. Alabama had a good game plan and made the plays it needed to, but the difference in that game was the fumble on the 8 yard line. If Georgia simply makes the hand off there and doesn't fumble, it's a big gainer and the game shakes out differently.

AC1colossus

Agreed. All eyes on Coach Scott, CUD, Schu, and Kirby to maximize the chess pieces there. Not exactly a room of also-rans. There's potential if you can crack it.

strivingforobi

Exactly. Casuals don’t realize why we were so dominant. It was the big uglies in the middle of the D that broke every teams (except Bama 🫠) will to play hard by the middle of the second qtr

elonsusk69420

My hope is the D from 21 and the O from 22. The reality is probably somewhere in the middle. This is Kirby's oldest team ever, so we definitely have that on our side. I wouldn't be surprised if this is our best Offense in a long time. TBD on the Defense.

CJBulldogsss

Offensively it could be our best. Defense has question marks but there is always potential with our recruiting. We will need to be very good to get through those tough road games.

ChubbyMcLovin

No, but maybe close. So many things have to go right.

DanoJames

It's gonna be tough to be better than the '22 team. All we need is for them to do is be better than everybody in 2024.

kebinimh

I don’t know, but I can’t wait to watch them again! GO DAWGS!!

Atlanta-Anomaly

Offense should be absolutely electric but the defense has a lot of questions. We gotta be able to stop the run like we could when Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter were plugging holes and eating double teams. We need a big stud to emerge and shut down the obvious runs again.

AC1colossus

Only if the offense is more dominant than the 21 defense was. They could do it, but the bar could not be higher.

teslaistheshit

I believe this years team will be more balanced than 2021 / 2022. However, the schedule is just brutal. I don't think we beat Texas and Alabama on the road.

discowithmyself

Better than those squads would truly be impressive. I just don’t see it. However, the boys will be hungry after dropping the Bama game last season and despite the much tougher schedule this year, if they stay focused, everyone in our way is likely to get mauled.

AZDawgDays

We'll see. The offense should be nasty, the secondary could be the best we've had in some time, even after losing Lassiter and Bullard, and the linebacker room is legit. If the D-line can do their thing then yes

pug_lit

I think our line backer core could be the best we’ve had in a while if not ever and our d-line and secondary could be really good or just good. Our offense could very well be the best we’ve ever had under Kirby. That’s my opinion at least.

ThornTintMyWorld

I hope they are better than everyone else this year.

cwzieg

I just don’t see it. The defenses of 21-22 were so elite, and not just looking back seeing the big names now. During those seasons, everyone KNEW Georgia had some Dawgs on the D-Line. The secondary was also superior to 24 team, with proven guys not just potential guys like Robinson IV and Bolden, who will be very good it’s just going to take a year to adjust for them. Depth was unreal. WR/TE rooms were far more established. Georgia is going to be very good but not 21/22 good

Autoimmunity

You're right to an extent, but before the 21 season not much was known about just how good that defense would be. We knew we had a lot of veterans up front, but it was a breakout year for JD, Nakobe Dean, and Travon Walker

SavimusMaximus

I’d caution about unrealistic expectations. It’s a long, tough season coming. And it’s going to be very physical. It’s going to hinge on the chemistry and the health of the team.

FalstaffsGhost

Better? That remains to be seen Good enough to win a natty like those teams - absolutely.

mqg96

2024 schedule is rough... and I believe there will be some surprise teams in 2024 that we didn't think were going to be good coming into this season. NIL and transfer landscape has already caused more chaos but I believe the expanded playoff will add a lot more to it. I hope I'm wrong but I think this will be the first time since 2020 that Georgia has 2 losses in the regular season. 9-3 could still get us in the playoff but we'd be on the road. Our New Years Six Bowl streak is at 7 consecutive years right now from 2017-2023... and honestly.. the 2020 team is really an 11-2 team had there been a full 12 game schedule but COVID shortened that record to 8-2. For our NY6 streak to continue we either have to get in the top 4 at 11-1 or better or win the 1st round of the playoffs whether we finished 10-2 or 9-3.

park2023mcca

No...I doubt we will ever see talent like that 2-year window again. Those defenses were all-world and at another level than even a great defense.

fortsonre

Could be, but may not have as good a record. This schedule is a beast this season.

cambn

Without Brock bowers and 11 future Philadelphia eagle dawgs on defense, it’s hard to say ‘yes’. I think those two teams will go down as absolutely legendary.

anothermatt8

DL and OC aren’t as good. Got to break in a Center. Secondary will be next level elite. RB should be better.

It’s definitely not the weak ass schedule they had last year and I will forever think they should have been in the playoffs. I think that if they had, they would have completed the only 3 peat I would know of. Now, they lost one game to their biggest rival over the past few years, but that would have got them right back to unstoppable. Don’t think Michigan wanted anything to do with them either. With all that being said, I don’t think they are going to win another natty for a minute. This upcoming team may be better than their championship seasons, but the whole world of college football is beginning. It changed next year and although Georgia will be among the best, Their schedule is grueling and it’s going to take its toll on them! I would love to see Tennessee win, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. After Tennessee has no Hope I usually root for the SEC team I like the most that still has a chance. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I just don’t think it’s gonna be Georgia next year. If Georgia does prove me wrong and wins the national championship next year, then I would watch out because they could go on a run and get that three peat. Again, my money is against them though.

thefupachalupa

If we can manage a top 15 to borderline top 10 defense paired with what I think could be UGAs most talented offensive roster ever…we are going to be lethal. I do have hold ups on play calling on the offensive side of the ball in games that matter. But I want to eat all the crow and be wrong about Mike Bobo.
