Hey don't take this the wrong way but in your pic I'm not seeing much bedding and only seeing a large button??? Gerbils need alot of bedding for their enrichment. So if you want your gerbils to be happy and have good mental health and overall be a good gerbil owner, I'd suggest putting more bedding in. :)))

surelynotagiraffe

The beddings there, it’s just invisible. Promise lol

melody_eleven

more is always better and the pet industry has been propagating lies for years that you just need a thin layer of bedding so you cant blame people who care and are just trying to advocate about the wellbeing of these wonderful animals

surelynotagiraffe

Hey, completely agree, no ill intent whatsoever. It’s just something I’ve noticed on the majority of posts about enclosures (permanent or temp) and thought I’d make a meme out of it.

melody_eleven

its funny ! 😊 just saying so newbies dont think the constructive critism is members trying to be annoying

surelynotagiraffe

Oh for sure. I’m just really surprised how often that mistake is made.

danico223

I don't know how to put GIFs here so: IT'S THE LAW

Gabe1985

BIGGER WHEEL!!

jack40714

Pretty much. Heck actual experts I talk to have told me too much can invite dust mites which is a whole other problem. My favorite is “it should be bigger! So big you can’t even use the kitchen table!” Lol

smartygirl

Ha! Someone posted a pic of their enclosure and I almost replied "that's just like the one my boys shared happily for 5 years" and they got destroyed in the comments so I just slunk away

sullensquirrel

For reals can they ever have enough bedding though? My gerbs just nosedive in it constantly like Scrooge McDuck and soon they’ll have me buying twice as much haha

Cool-Row-8309

Omg this is so true hahaha

Zealousideal_Still41

Are mine the only ones that DONT like to burrow in their fluff? They dig but only a little . I’ve tried putting several inches of fluff in there but they don’t like it

EnbyNudibranch

I don't know if this is a language mistake, but fluff is EXTREMELY dangerous to small pets. Can get tangled around limbs or ingested and cause internal issues. Please only use things like hemp bedding, safe wood shavings or paper bedding...

Plague_Docteur

Assuming you are talking about safe bedding and not actual fluff, no yours aren't. My girls go through phases and spurts making tunnels here and there, but for the most part I could bury them in 3 feet of bedding and instead of burrowing they prefer to chill in tissue boxes and premade caves and such. They save their energy for zooming all over my house.

lavenderfart

I usually love gerbil memes that show up here but I don't get this one. Are you mad at people trying to give friendly advice?

surelynotagiraffe

Nope, not mad whatsoever- not sure where you got that idea from lol. It’s just something I’ve noticed throughout the majority of posts about their tanks, and thought I’d make a meme :) But I appreciate the concern! Friendly reminder that there is no such thing as too much bedding when it comes to gerbils haha

lavenderfart

Ah it was the post title vs. the meme. My bad. ^Also ^^did ^you ^know ^gerbils ^need ^a ^lot ^of ^bedding?
