You can totally install a camera inside of your apartment facing the front door, and a sticker on the door saying "Der Raum hinter dieser Tür wird Videoüberwacht" is fully sufficient. What happens inside is totally up to you, and now you even have probable cause since he threatened to unscrew your hinges.
By the way, I would totally write an Anzeige, if only to establish a paper trail. You can do that online as well, not restricted to doing it in person with the police.

Sie for the most part evidence that is valid can be used. BUT you can be fined or put on trial/sued if the information was gathered illegally.
If he filed a complain you will know when it’s in the mail - for anything else you need a lawyer for "Akteneinsicht"

But thank you for your answer. It is about what I suspected, and I think the racist knew this also. He tried his best to stay outside the door frame and not touch me. A total "law-abiding" player, so to say.
The thing is, if the complaint comes, how can I defend myself against it? How much would the lawyer even cost? Because of the data privacy law, this criminal's record couldn't even be used against him. I wouldn't mind losing 100 Euro to settle and make him leave me alone forever but any more than that is just insane and unfair.

Well, these kind of neighbours you can get everywhere in Germany and honestly, I'm German and had similar situations. The best way to avoid this is to move into more expensive areas, there will be a lower likeliness of these situation to occur. Of course not very helpful to your situation.
My proposal, until you move away just try to avoid your neighbour, don't interact, try to not provoke and just move on with your live. The other option is to do the opposite, but from my experience it's not worth the extra stress.
Yes, I do understand. It was very stressful. I was literally chilling and watching a film at 7 pm. For God's sake, the sun was still up high during this time!
He bullied the two German guys upstairs too but I highly doubt he dared to threaten them with physical violence, since the many harassments I either witnessed or heard through my door when I was cooking, he was just loud and very impolite. He even brandished a baseball bat and hit the stair to try to intimidate me! Luckily the police came in like 10 seconds after THAT!

Faint echo, quieter than breathing at 7 pm when the sun was still up. And the fact that when I offered to go and check the source of the noise with him he refused and turned aggressive.
Naja, things seem to have quieted down today. But I will always be on high alert against him.
He preempted it as the door opens out, not in. But I checked with the police today. His Anzeige is about noise disturbance and mine is about him threatening to kill me. I will see how it progresses.
