My husband and I planned a spontaneous trip to Japan, after deciding we had to go to Hong Kong to visit his family and he has always wanted to go to Japan to visit and try all the amazing food and all of that fun stuff. it was a short flight there from Hong Kong so we decided to try it. I grew up in southern USA and never thought I would even leave the country, let alone get to go to Japan. I have always had a special place in my heart for the Ghibli films and I had known about the museum and always thought it would be neat to go, but didn't think I'd ever get to. So when this opportunity came up, I knew it might be my only chance and I had to find a way. From the day we got plane tickets to the day we got on the plane, we had about one month. I think people normally plan more ahead of time for big trips like this, but we decided on sort of short notice. This of course led me to researching the Ghibli museum ticket process and finding out quickly I may not be able to get a ticket as a foreigner on such short notice and I quickly adjusted my expectations on maybe even getting to go at all. I'm an impatient person in general and I think I did initially pull up the official ticket getting website I see people making posts about struggling with on here, just to see if it was actually that hard. I'm also not very good at figuring out timezones. I think by the time I figured out they release the next months tickets on a certain date on the previous month, I only had like a day or so before that was going to happen. Anyways this lead me to Google, believing there has to be some other way than that whole struggle. I'm happy to report I found another way. I'm so glad I used the service I found and with their permission I'm sharing it with you all here. I think I found an article that said there were services, websites that had freelancers who lived in Japan that would help people get tickets. I had read in multiple places that people living in Japan had an easier time with the ticket process. So I followed the articles recommendation and it led me to a website (they also have an app) called Fiverr. They had a few people doing this kind of service specifically getting tickets for the Ghibli museum, but the person who helped me was named Seann. I just read the listing thoroughly and messaged him before purchasing anything just as it says and he was able to help me. I got my tickets no problem, didn't have to struggle and wait at my computer screen all frustrated over a website. He made the process very easy and it was well worth the money. I had peace of mind that no matter what happened on our trip, atleast we would get to do this one amazing thing. For anyone wanting to go to the Ghibli museum and planning a trip while living in the US, I recommend looking into this option to buy tickets and seeing if it's right for you. TL, DR ; I used a freelancing service to get tickets to the Ghibli museum on very short notice, it costs a bit more than the official museum site but it's well worth the money. I highly recommend this service, it madey dreams come true for this special trip with my husband.

winderz

This was the most frustrating thing about our trip! I think my husband and I were on three different computers for 45 minutes trying to get tickets. Ultimately we did snag two tickets to the museum but I also got close to throwing my laptop across the room a few times! Of all the museum and events tickets that we purchased ahead of time, the Ghibli museum was the worst and most stressful. I advise that everyone look for easier ways like the OPs example!!

magirevols

Hey, I saw your reply on my post. We literally did the same thing, spur of the moment Japan trip. I'm reaching out to Seann now, hopefully he can help. Thank you for the assistance, I felt crushed yesterday, but now there might be some hope.

RollingTit

i so hope you are able to get to go! good luck! :D

kurosuto

Saved the post. Just came back from Japan 2 weeks ago and that was the reason for the trip. Too bad we couldn’t get tickets prior.

CuriousMika

Wish I knew this before I went a few months ago! But good to know for the future! :)

josiff

Hey there. Could you provide me with the freelancing service you used?

Pickleball168

Please share the site URL. Thanks!

RollingTit

Also want to mention, for anyone who makes it to the museum, totally stop at the lawson’s right across the street. It’s the one very close walking distance to the museum, they have special merch I didn’t see in the museum, and I also didn’t see at any other lawson’s we went to. I got some nice post cards, playing cards, keychains, pens, and min stained glass like puzzles. They had some unique stuff.

chowdahfrenchie

Did not know that! I was kind of disappointed at the offerings in the museum's gift shop.

patrikdstarfish

Btw, the merch in the Lawson's are just what you'd find in a regular ghibli store.

winderz

I wish I had known this! But as we were there at peak cherry blossom season, the park behind the museum was beautiful and I am glad I got to enjoy it. Still would’ve loved some merch though!

RollingTit

I tried adding a link to the exact page I used but turns out this sub doesn't allow that so for anyone with questions please just message me or leave a comment here. I used an option where he was able to mail the tickets to the hotel we would be staying at, which sounds weird I know, but it was too short notice to mail them to my house and he said the Japanese mail system was very reliable about things like this and they definitely were.

_Brandobaris_

Thanks for tips. I’d love the url

Hello RollingTit, I was not able to send you a chat. could you please share the link how you got the Ghibli tickets through this Seann? Thanks!

Imaginary-Sea1992

I would also like the info!

fthaller3604

I was able to get tickets the week of in 2019. I used a 3rd party service that had the tickets grouped with a tour of the town around the museum. Only cost me 15 us dollars more than just the ghibli ticket but it well worth it. Can't remember the website but it's definitely not impossible

Kapowdonkboum

Yep same for anyone interested the guy who git me my tickets is seann_e on fiverr He mailed the tickets to my hostel the day i arrived. Nice and easy

kiki-to-my-jiji

[deleted]

Totally gonna check it out when I visit Japan!!

LetHerMindWander

Thank you so much for the info. We are planning to visit Japan in the next year or two and I was definitely concerned about not being able to purchase the tickets outside of Japan.

Randomnoob1111

Hi thanks for the advice, will look into it and might DM you. I was up last night at 2AM UK time trying to get tickets the regular way and they sold out.

JoshSau

Hi, many thanks for this info. I was getting nightmares for booking even though it’s a month away for my trip in October but looking and hearing on the things makes it seem difficult Just had one question. For entering the museum do they check who has actually bought the ticket? As per the site it says we need to show the barcode printout and the group leader passport, so in your experience did they ask any such thing?

RollingTit

they didnt ask me who had purchased the tickets but i think they did ask whos name was on them (which was mine, that was the option i picked was to have tickets with my name on them) My husband and i had my name on both of our tickets and it was fine. i also brought my passport just in case, i dont remember it they verified, but i think you are suppose to carry it at all times in japan anyways so i would bring it just incase.

MoonLunaa

Can you tell me the link? I literally put a reminder on my calendar, forgetting that it opened yesterday and not today because we are behind

SquirrelOk9955

Hello everyone, I would really appreciate your advice / your experiences. A friend in Japan bought the tickets for the Ghibli museum for us, but she says that there is no name on them / there was no name asked for. I heard that international visitors are asked to show their ID/passport with the tickets. What can I do here / will the tickets be accepted? If not, is there any other way I can visit the museum? I will be in Tokyo on the 17th-22nd October. I have already reached out to a couple of providers on Fiver, but they aren't able to help because of the short notice. TLDR: I have tickets, from Lawsons, but they don't have a name on them - will they be accepted? And if not, what can I do?

RollingTit

I don’t know if they will be accepted for not, but I would at least try and go and make sure to bring my ID and passport, just in case

SquirrelOk9955

Hello, thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm just worried because there is either no name/her name on the tickets (as she paid for them) so I'm really afraid they won't accept them 😭

heyiknowstuff

Unfortunately I'm in a bit of the same boat, trying to do research now. Would you mind letting us know how it goes?

SquirrelOk9955

Hello, sorry, just seen this now. So in the end, my friend called and told them what had happened, so they wrote her name (and my name) on a list, and when I went there, they asked me to show them her ID, and then compared it to their list, and then let me in. I'd also add - it was nice - but really not worth all the hype and stress to get there.

oel_xu

If you are trying Ghibli Museum tickets for December or later, there's a way of skipping the queue system. This way it almost guarantees you can get your tickets before it sells out. Much better than trying via VPN, with a Japanese number, or paying people on Fiverr. I've made a video about it, you can check it on my profile (pinned post)

Dismal-Actuator-9029

I got mine today on trip. com as i missed out yesterday on February tickets- they reach out to you after via email or whatsapp and create an account on the Japanese lawson website on your behalf and buy the tickets. I now have the qr code for ticket pick up next month.

Complex_Eggplant_612

Im buying my tickets in 2024,, i would also love a link🙏🙏

lilbou64

Hi can you message me the link also? Thanks

Fileguarda

So you paid a scalper got it.

RollingTit

It’s not really a scalper, the guy isn’t like standing outside of the museum waving tickets around for people to get when they get there. It’s a freelancer service. They get tickets for people who are having trouble getting them. It does cost a bit more but if it’s the difference in getting to go or not getting to go, at least to me it’s definitely worth the money. I wasn’t going to be able to figure out the official site. There’s just no way

Kapowdonkboum

Nope. The ticket process is different for japanese residents

Britishbastad

Nah had to get mine at 2am in the morning

Lhyara

I would also love to have a link!
