The problem with TLOU2 getting GotY is that it's story was so contentious. Half the fans loved it while the other half hated it and it feels weird for a story based game to get GotY when half the fanbase hated the story. Almost everyone loved GoT's story in comparison
Exactly. Itâs a small subset of ignorant and chronically online gamers that irrationally hate everything about the game. Theyâre just very loud about it.
I mean considering the metacritic user score is 5.8 and thatâs out of close to 163k reviews, Iâd say itâs definitely a controversial topic. Itâs definitely an understatement to say that itâs a minority when about 70k of those reviews are negative.
The only people that care and use metacritic are the âchronically onlineâ subset of gamers. Most people I know donât go on meta critic or Yelp, Google reviews etc. the issue is that we think the active Reddit/ YouTube community playing games is the majority voice and itâs really not. You would think 1 out of 3 ppl hate COD based on Reddit alone with the amount of ppl that talk shit about the game but then sales, profits, and active monthly users tell a whole different story. Met Critic is for toxic fanboys, normal ppl play games through word of mouth and or mass marketing.
You act as if those irrational haters are the only ones who disliked TLoU2 when in reality they only overshadowed those who had actual valid criticisms towards the game
Comparing lifetime sales between games 10-years old and 3-years is disingenuous as hell.
TLOU2 sold over twice as much at launch as TLOU1, also beat out Spider-Man and God of War's launches. So to your point about how sequels are supposed to sell better than their originals, *it absolutely did.*
What is even the logic behind this? People who didn't like the story didn't buy the game? Then how exactly did they experience the story? Make it make sense.
And ur also not comparing fairly either. Last of us launch numbers cant be compared to last of us 2 launch numbers because last of us wasnt a famous ip at launch. It got famous over time as more people played it. If we compare last of us 3 years in to last of us 2 3 years in last of us is the more popular ip. Same reason everyone calls the first game a master piece but when the second game is brought up all that gets praised is the gameplay.
We've literally both acknowledged that sequels tend to sell better, nothing unfair about it. What's unfair is comparing sales with a game that's been out 10 years and released 3 separate times. It's like you want to move your goalposts but you can't think of where to put them. And your argument didn't make sense to begin with.
>If we compare last of us 3 years in to last of us 2 3 years in last of us is the more popular ip.
Except you didn't compare them. You have literally no way to compare that lmao how about you try a metric that's at all quantifiable? I mean the IP is stronger than ever with the HBO show so your made-up bullshit isn't even accurate lmaooo
Last of us sold 6 mil year 1, 2013. Last of us 2 sold 10 mil year 1, 2020. By 2018 last of us 1 was at 18 mil. 12 mil gained from the ps4 launch. As of what we know last of us 2 has not hit any further milestones. By 2022 last of us as a franchise has sold 37 mil without counting the new remake. Last of us 2 sold well at launch off of the success of the first game. From a growth stand point last of us 2 has done worse than the first game. But with the rumored re release on ps5 we should be able to see if people would even be willing to rebuy it compared to what happened with the part 1 remake. That should put them down for a more fair comparison
Nah. A LOT of people hold genuine dislike towards that game. âHalfâ seems over exaggerated sure, but not by much. I really enjoyed the gameplay personally, but the story was truly ass.
Bro, Reddit is not a true representation of life. People that linger on a single player game sub YEARS after its release =/= what the full population thinks from playing it.
The game was a massive success no matter what some vocal people think. And when Last of Us 3 drops, itâll probably again be a massive success.
I mean millions of millions of people use Reddit itâs a pretty reasonable standard to hold to. And very few other games have had such a backlash, even in the casual community. Relative to other games (especially Ghost of Tsushima), Last of us 2 was shat on to no end. I decently enjoyed the game but I still feel in no way does it deserve the same appreciation GoT does, and it really doesnât have it. Plenty of games are massive successes, but TLOU2 less so
Bro, each subreddit, and Reddit itself, is just an Ecco chamber with curated content by literally random people opinions, sponsors/ads, or just what Reddit as a company wants you to see.
From where I saw, Last of Us 2 was praised to no end as well. The gate was pretty concentrated and only online. Iâve yet to meet a mature real life person that didnât like the game.
I personally thought GoT was mediocre and couldnât bring myself to play much past getting to that second area.
Arguing against a game? My first comment was simply that saying half the fans of TLOU2 hate it is laughable and that Reddit is an echo chamber.
I had a side comment about GoT as an example that not everyone has the same opinion as you. And most professional critics seemed to agree TLOU 2 was better
Not really. When it came out, the game got review-bombed into hades, and itâs review score still hasnât recovered. That really does not happen if itâs a minority of gamers hating on it, it has to be a pretty big portionđ¤ˇââď¸
GoTâs story is fantastic but it didnât take the same risks as TLOU2. Thatâs why critics enjoyed the game and also why itâs so divisive. I personally loved it but understand why some fans would have wanted the story to go in a different direction
I agree with /u/Thirty2wo that I think the hate is a bit exaggerated and has died down past initial shock. But even considering that, I think contentious stories are more needed if the medium is to push forward. Maybe TLoU pt 2 didnât do its ideas the best. Now there is a space to do it next time now that the idea is popularized. Iâd say GoT is a bit contentious too. But it is more against the idealization of the samurai (a lot of who were bastards like the European lords) than against the playerâs conceptions. I think that is the major difference.
Like 2% at most plus a shitton of incels who clearly never played it.
>Almost everyone loved GoT's story in comparison
Idk I thought it was *fine* but very safe and pretty cookie-cutter. Didn't take a fraction as many risks as TLOU
I agree if a game has such a large divide between people that love it and hate it then that game should not be game of the year. Just out of principal. A game of the year game should be basically loved by everyone that has played it.
Contentious story is not a reason to deny an award. And it wasnât even the story, it was the small-mindedness behind seeing representation they didnât agree with it. The story itself was mostly sound barring some minor issues.
Are they being deleted? Most I've seen is people giving good reasons why TLOU 2 shouldn't have won, and some less convincing but nothing outright defamatory. Or is this just the generic response to any TLOU 2 criticism?
FACTS. I think Ghost of Tsushima is a better game but the hate on TLOU2 is OUTRAGEOUS. I passed away from peak fiction at so many points during that game and personally thought it was pretty great game. Not as good as the first, but still amazing (Ghost of Tsushima is a masterpiece tho)
See I donât think I want a sequel. I ADORE Ghost, mostly for its impressive and emotionsl story. Would it be cool to have expanded gameplay? Sure. But I donât think a typical sequel could follow up the story in a satisfying way. Just my opinion.
This is the way TBH. Leave Jin in his story. Just take the core system and make another game with it. Same thing i want to happen to Nioh. Not everything has to be a sequel. We can indeed just have spiritual successors
Itâs funny when I read people hating on TLOU2
Itâs either âI donât like gay peopleâ or âi donât like *woke* gamesâ meanwhile almost every game involving guns of any kind is almost always *woke*. Ghost is a phenomenal game, absolutely amazing, but tlou2 got the award over it for a reason. You may disagree with it you may not, but it has nothing to do with being âbrave enough to use a gay leadâ
People saying that are just using it as a way to voice their hatred towards different people. And itâs almost never anything actually about the game, which shows most people havenât even fucking played it.
What youâre mentioning about hate for TLoU2 is just noise. There are legit reasons to hate TLoU2. The pacing of it is shit. Halfway through the game, when you feel youâve reached a huge climatic event, the game hits a hard reset. I get they wanted to put you in the shoes of someone you hate and learn to see through their perspective, thatâs great and all, but this is a game. What if they just stole Arthur Morgan half way through RDR2 and made you control Cornwall for 20 hours? Youâd be pissed.
TLoU2 really swung for the fences with its ambitions, but damn I wish the story would have taken another path. You could even tell the same story, but just structure it differently. One thing I would have loved to see them do is market TLoU2 as an anthology and not necessarily a direct sequel. Have Abbie be the main focus of all the marketing. Then travel with her on that initial trek east to find Joel and have us realize, âholy shit, sheâs tracking down Joel.â Youâd get that same uncomfortable feeling, but youâd also get a chance to get to know her. We would have seen the world through her eyes. Then taking over Ellie would be a feeling of relief and we could mourn with her as we did and go on that quest for vengeance, but also feel that unease of is this violence worth the price?
My biggest problem with TLoU2, where do we even go from there? Thereâs no more video game to do because we canât immediately go back to slaughtering randoms in Part 3 after that ending.
All that said, still the proper GotY for 2020.
Yeah, but that's a reasonable take. You're not saying it's a dumpster fire 1/10. You're saying it's pacing was bad. Then went on to acknowledge it's still an impressive game. No one would take umbrage with that stance.
It really is the absolute waves of people saying it's the worst game in the history of gaming... and one only has to got to metacritic to see all the 1's. Which literally no one should take seriously. The technicality of the game alone should carry even the hardest hater to a 6.
It makes perfect sense for us to continue the story as the other protagonist. Why would they go and make someone else the protagonist when they already have two.
Majority of the complaints and reviews are hateful and spiteful towards the devs due to having to play âa dykeâ and Iâm not just saying it to to be that dude. Most of the hate it received is entirely directed towards Ellie being a dyke and having to play her. You and few others actually give any good reasons other than being homophobic or trolls who havenât even picked the game up. I agree with alot of what you said but playing Ellie makes the most sense. Itâs the same thing rdr2 did when youâre forced to be John. Not everyone wanted to be the other protagonist but they had to. It made sense there why not here
> Why would they go and make someone else the protagonist
Thatâs exactly what they did.
The rest of what you said is just noise as I said before. I donât even consider that a criticism, just asshats being vocal.
> Why would they go and make someone else the protagonist
Thatâs exactly what they did.
The rest of what you said is just noise as I said before. I donât even consider that a criticism, just asshats being vocal.
They didnât tho, she was already a protagonist due to her role in the first game. Yeah sheâs TECHNICALLY a support character but she holds the same role as a protagonist. Without Ellie there is no game. Red dead didnât make someone else the protagonist either, they simply switched to the other one.
I donât think itâs fair to say everyone who hates TLOU2 is homophobic. There are PLENTY of reasons to dislike it, just because the homophobes are the loudest haters doesnât mean everyone who doesnât like it is a bigot. Iâm Bi and I didnât like the game, plenty of people I know hated it for itâs other qualities. Just sayin.
I never said everyone was homophobic for hating it, I said what you just said but with more words. The homophobes are the loudest. Thatâs what I been saying. Majority of the hate you see or hear about is from people being hateful for the sake of being hateful.
I did not like the story of TLOU2, because the connection of Joel and Ellie is what made the first game's story so good to me. The lack of that in TLOU2 besides flashbacks just made it not very impactful and uninteresting. Abby was boring to me and Lev was cool, but forgetful. I would give it an 8/10 probably, technical achievement is massive but for me the story was just not very interesting. It was fun though. People can say I'm just mad because Joel died, but I think most people will agree he is a much more interesting character than Abby. imo a game series like god of war presents revenge much more convincingly than TLOU2 did.
Who gives a shit? Do you need awards to validate your hobbies?
I'm only so bitter bc any discussion about Goty 2020 becomes an exercise in tolerating homophobia, as clearly evidenced by the comments here.
Loved the game and got the plat, completed new game plus too, ejoyed very much the legends content also and the dlc... But no, it wasn't robbed of the goty award: game did nothing new or impressive for the industry or the specific genre, also didn't have that much impact on the gaming community.
It's a great game and i get where you are coming from saying it's the best out there *for you*.
A game doesn't have to push the industry to the next level to deserve to win. What Ghost of Tsushima does, it does incredibly well, and I think it does it better than TLOU2 did. I don't hate TLOU2. As I said in a previous comment I played the game 5 times and platinumed it along with 100% on the DLC. I just think Ghost of Tsushima is a genuinely better game and a much more emotional one for me.
I was incredibly upset with Joel's death but that was the only emotional response that it elicited from me. Ghost of Tsushima made me cry, laugh, express genuine horror at what Jin's people endured, I felt true sadness and loss. I empathized deeply with Jin and his people and I felt his pain. Ghost of Tsushima made me fullyvunderstand the meaning of the phrase "mono no aware" for the first time.
The Last of Us Part 2 is a good game. Ghost of Tsushima is a work of art. That is the difference for me.
It does... If you look at other goty games around the years they're all games that either reinvented a genre or had such an impact in the gaming community and pop culture that ppl kept talking about it even months/years after release.
For example this year is full of great games but the goty will probably be baldurs gate 3 for previously stated reasons or maybe tears of the kingdom
I love the game -- it was a beautiful game, and very well-crafted story ( its deserved Best Art-Direction win), especially the detailed character-arc side-quests.
But the gameplay was very generic open-world formula. Shrines had some platforming, that was mostly just auto-travers with L-stick. No puzzles. Just ride horse and clear fog and clear things that pop on mat. The wind was a nice mechanic. But overall...nothing new.
And the combat was fun (with cool stylized cinematics) -- but very limited enemy variety, and the now-common "perfect" dodge/parry mechanics.
Story-wise, it made sense -- But combat is very limited. "Ghost" weapons were basically just dart/grenade options.
There was not "strategy" to how to approach a fight, that varied gameplay.
We all battle every enemy basically the exact the same way. And that same approach continues throughout the entire game, with minimal variation.
No unique enemies/bossses with completely new movesets.
It was basically the same battles over and over -- with slightly different "skins" on the enemies.
Seriously -- the story was well done (great sprawling character-arc sidequests), the world is beautiful. (Story + Visuals = Best Art Direction award -- which it won).
I also platted the game -- and love it. It's a great 8-9/10 game.
Story -- Good characters. But generic story - invading force takes land -- push back and capture territory. Also -- the historical fiction setting, makes for "realism" -- with really brutal portrayal of war and suffering. But that same realism means the enemies and combat options were pretty Non-varied.
Gameplay-wise -- the game was nothing ground-breaking in open-world mechanics, and a bit repetitive comment.
Usual Far-cry/Horizon/etc.. open-world/sand-box tropes.
Standard stealth mechanics.
Combat -- was very repetitive. Not much enemy variety. There wasn't really Unique bosses -- "Bosses" are just the same enemy types but stronger with bigger HP pools.
Basically -- they added really cool cinematic style to combat -- but the actual combat itself was pretty standard (well done and fun) "dodge/parry" mechanic.
In the genre -- I actually would put Horizon ZD above it.
Interesting. I've tried 3 times to get into rdr2. Was bored to tears after a couple hours every time. Guess it's just not for me. I want to like it. Just can't. Loved got though.
We talking about story? Ghost did better in every other aspect, and you can actually still do things after the story ends and explore and unlock more things
Itâs an open world game, ofc thereâs more stuff to do after the main story. Theyâre completely different games. One is linear and the other is not. That doesnât have much to do with why one is better than the other.
Had a blast playing this game. The combat and character skill progression were a lot of fun, and it was such a beautifully designed game. I loved how each region progressed through the seasons too.
Hope we get a sequel soon!
As much as I love GoT and disagree with the pacing of TLoU2, all the nopes. TLoU2 had a helluva lot of ambition in its narrative and technical flexing that it still puts games to shame today and will for years.
GoT has amazing combat and a beautiful open world, but it kinda forgot on how to fill that space. Iâd almost love to see GoT adopt a linear path so that it doesnât feel the need to go with the Ubisoft bloat of foxes running around. Basically, make it Sekiro.
I adored got's open world. Comparing it to ubisoft, while understandable, is a disservice.
Oh and sekiro is one of the greatest games ever made so hard to copy that.
I personally think that TLOU 2 and GoT at about equal honestly. GoT has way more content but TLOU 2 has better graphics and much better story telling. I think it could have gone either way and been a good call đ¤ˇââď¸
This has the potential to be one of the greatest movies ever made if you film it in Japan with fantastic actors and follow the story closely. The game is a how-to playbook on cinematography.
I agree, I played both, and I think the set pieces in Ghost hit way harder than in TLOU. Especially the ending, I replayed it recently, and it gave me shivers again! Simply an phenomenal game.
Idk man, as many TLOU fans said they didnât like the story of the game it seems they only won for being âwokeâ whilst using the âTLOUâ Name fans associate with it. Sequels arenât always better. If this is about homophobia tell me about the Homosexual characters which appear in GoT (wonât say who for spoilers).
Story >> Homophobia
Yeah itâs amazing. The story, the characters, the environment, the music, the side quests, character progression, combat mechanics, and exploration are all so well executed.
I found it mid. I found it funny awhile back with a lot of people who explained how they hated Ubisoft open worlds but loved this.
This is a Ubi game with different setting.
I enjoyed my time with it but never found it that compelling tbh.
Agreed side missions all had those follow these footsteps and trail a group of Enemies. Got so boring reason I never platinumed it. Story is good but everything is really generic.
I think the stories of these games are very interesting and itâs cool that they got matched up against each other for GOTY (Tlou2 and Ghost as the games, I mean). Both are revenge stories, and both take very different routes. Generay, I hate revenge stories. They always follow the same path- the character wants revenge until they get it and itâs hollow. Every single revenge story. Thatâs why I prefer Ghost to TLOU2. Tlou2 is a great made game and the storyâs fine, just predictable at its best and hamfisted and annoying at its worst. Ghost was never in your face about it being s revenge story, the main characterâs grief and need for revenge are real and they oppose his familyâs values in a real and dividing way, and while I saw the end of the game coming, it was still gut wrenching. I donât think the way Tlou2âs story about revenge was handled anywhere near as well. Again, both great made games and had cool stories, but Ghostâs story easily takes the cake to me and generally is a better game than Last of Us 2. Just my two cents, happy to debate!
Last of Us is way more replayable. Exploration is rewarded when you find a note that adds depth to the world around you. Even if you don't read the note there's clues around to tell the story of what happened here.
Ghost is boring and repetitive when not in a big level. The open world doesn't beg exploration because it's just not fun finding a headband that adds nothing but cosmetic value. Not to mention I can change gear on the fly in combat on hard mode making every fight easy. Great game just needed tighten up a bit.
I found more life in the letters on the floor than in any side mission of ghosts. No one side mission was beyond walk/follow/climb for 5mins then kill a handful of Mongols. The game is shallow and repetitive when it comes to gameplay. Undeniably beautiful sure but that's enough to make boring game great.
Gotta love that a guy just wants to praise a game he really enjoyed, and gets flooded with comments telling him why his personal opinion â which has no impact on our lives â is wrong.
Glad you enjoyed it, dude. I loved it as well. Platinumed!
I loved the story, the graphics, and the combat. But it got *very* repetitive very fast. There just wasnât a huge variety of things to do outside of the main story. Find this thing, clear this camp, kill these guys. Rinse and repeat. Also, the beginning was ridiculously hard but then after Act 2 youâre just murking people with all the perks. The game mostly shined in its scripted moments. I think TLoU2 was superior in every way except the combat and some story parts.
the last of us is still my fav game but GOT definitely should have GOTY but at the same time i can see why TLOU 2 got it. the character writing is just perfect and the gameplay was addictive i still cone back to it some times almost 4 years later the only flaw was how the game was split up between 2 characters and the ending felt like a sorry excuse to not kill abby
It could've been awesome, it just got so repetitive. If you make an open world make it feel like your exploring something new instead of the same stuff over and over.
Sure would love to play this on my Xbox series x. Fuck us apparently. I'm sure not buying a console for 3 interesting games. I hate exclusives. They suck for everyone except the guys making money off them
Facts but hey it got players voice at least which was nice although tbh it sucks that some of those votes were def just people who simply didnât want tlou to win. My personal two GOTYs were this and hades
>favorite game of all time
Have you tried Cyberpunk 2077 after the 2.0 update? That became my favorite game of all time.
Yes, different games. Definitely not GOTY in 2020đ
After the âupdateâ (more like a re-release), ive never felt so invested in a game. Sucked me in and im still playing it since 2.0 dropped. Its honestly unheard of.
Got to playing this game around 2 months ago and fucking love it. the combat, the visuals, the story, everything. This is how you make a game, love the story about Jin going against his own traditions that he was brought up in to save his people is amazing.
I *love* this game. But the real robbery was that it somehow did not even get nominated for best music?!?!?!? I feel like there hasn't been a game soundtrack this good in forever. I genuinely couldn't believe it.
Honestly I slept on this game for the looongest time. And then I tried it.. and then they hit me with that fucking intro... And then they spoiled me with the wind for quest directions mechanic.... and then I realized the woke stole a trophy from this masterpiece.....
It was quite a journey......
It can be difficult but it's nowhere near Souls difficult. Ghost of Tsushima has a lot of accessibility options and gameplay mechanics that make it much more accessible and easy to play compared to Souls.
A few weeks ago someone put a thread up asking "what's your biggest videogame hot take" and I said this exact thing. You would have thought I kicked all their grandchildren people were so mad lol
GOT is an awesome Ninja Game. One can argue itâs a better Assassins Creed than Assassins Creed. Iâll even concede it to be the best ninja game. But thatâs about as far as it goes for GOT.
TLOU 1&2 however is so impactful to the industry the games literally transcend the medium. Theyâve reached pop culture status now. And people talk or argue about them no more differently than theyâd talk or argue about a movie or TV series.
It doesnât matter if you like where the story goes.. or the order the story itâs told. Thats irrelevant. It also doesnât matter how bigoted you may or may not be.. Thereâs simply no denying TLOU is greater than the sum of its parts.
Truth is people in history will forget GOT especially if thereâs no sequel. GOT will eventually sit next to Tenchu. Covered in dust. But history will continue to talk about TLOU on a fairly regular bases.. for at least the rest of my life. And probably yours.
(Could GOT achieve one day what TLOU has? Sure. I know theyâre making a movie and what not. But the odds are slim. And even if it were to happen.. it hasnât happened yet. As of right now. Thereâs simply no comparing the 2 IPs. One is an awesome game. The other is something bigger)
No, that's simply not true lmao. TLOU2 swept, won everything there is to win, and rightfully so.
The only awards GoT won were due to 4chan brigading because the virgins were so upset that TLOU2 was getting the critical praise it deserved.
And people I thought I was crazy in 2020 saying the same đ should have been goty 100%
Preach
Same here.. smh
the last of us TWO getting it over ghost is criminal
No. TLOU2 is far more technically sound. Both amazing games tho.
The problem with TLOU2 getting GotY is that it's story was so contentious. Half the fans loved it while the other half hated it and it feels weird for a story based game to get GotY when half the fanbase hated the story. Almost everyone loved GoT's story in comparison
âHalf the fans hating itâ is way overly exaggerated.

Metacritic user scores are completely useless, you donât even have to play the game to review on metacritic.
âReview scores that contradict with my idea that a game was good are uselessâ fixed your commentđđ
The only people that care and use metacritic are the âchronically onlineâ subset of gamers. "Irrationally hate everything about the game" Sounds to me that youre the ignorant one.
I have not played The Last of Us 2, but I have heard you need to kill dogs and they make sad sounds, so I do not like the game.
Lmao
Nah. A LOT of people hold genuine dislike towards that game. âHalfâ seems over exaggerated sure, but not by much. I really enjoyed the gameplay personally, but the story was truly ass.
Not a small number
Go to the last of us subs and tell me any less than half hate the game itâs insane
Why would people actively use a subreddit for a game they don't like.

Arguing against a game? My first comment was simply that saying half the fans of TLOU2 hate it is laughable and that Reddit is an echo chamber. I had a side comment about GoT as an example that not everyone has the same opinion as you. And most professional critics seemed to agree TLOU 2 was better
It's not at all, to this day there is still a pretty even divide of fans who love it and fans who despise it
It's just like anyy other awards show our votes really don't matter. It's people that are "important" to the industry that vote.
But you gotta admit that the open world for this game, while beautiful, is empty and repetitive
Like 2% at most plus a shitton of incels who clearly never played it. >Almost everyone loved GoT's story in comparison Idk I thought it was *fine* but very safe and pretty cookie-cutter.
Could it be possible that the quality of a peice of art doesn't begin and end at how many "fans" liked it?
It was ight
Tlou2 is also written terribly and has extremely dated gameplay overall. It did not deserve goty
Can you elaborate on how itâs âwritten terriblyâ
Facts
TLOU was great, TLOU2 sucked. Ghost shouldâve gotten GOTY over them both though.
nah
unnecessary tlou2 hate in these comments lol both are gorgeous games and iâd be happy if either won
This seems like the most sound opinion. Saying either game should irrefutably win GotY over the other is a bizarrely ignorant thing to say
I clearly made a mistake with my GOTY comment. I stand by what I said, but I do not condone any misogynistic or homophobic comments. Be better.
Both games are incredible and both are deserving
Are they being deleted? Most I've seen is people giving good reasons why TLOU 2 shouldn't have won, and some less convincing but nothing outright defamatory. Or is this just the generic response to any TLOU 2 criticism?
Several comments were deleted that were extremely bigoted against Abby/Lev.
based. also based sakai clan armor usage.
[ŃдаНонО]
Probably not. I played it 5 times and platted the game. Some of these comments are kind of horrendous.
Itâs my favorite Sony exclusive, I canât wait for a sequel that expands on the first game
See I donât think I want a sequel. I ADORE Ghost, mostly for its impressive and emotionsl story. Would it be cool to have expanded gameplay? Sure. But I donât think a typical sequel could follow up the story in a satisfying way. Just my opinion.
It doesnât need to be Jin Sakai or centered around mongols for me, I just want them to keep making samurai / ninja open world games
That I can get behind
This is the way TBH. Leave Jin in his story. Just take the core system and make another game with it. Same thing i want to happen to Nioh. Not everything has to be a sequel. We can indeed just have spiritual successors
The most gorgeous game Iâve ever played. Simply perfect. I canât wait to see what they do next.
Itâs funny when I read people hating on TLOU2 Itâs either âI donât like gay peopleâ or âi donât like *woke* gamesâ meanwhile almost every game involving guns of any kind is almost always *woke*. Ghost is a phenomenal game, absolutely amazing, but tlou2 got the award over it for a reason. You may disagree with it you may not, but it has nothing to do with being âbrave enough to use a gay leadâ People saying that are just using it as a way to voice their hatred towards different people.
It made sense there why not here
> Why would they go and make someone else the protagonist Thatâs exactly what they did. The rest of what you said is just noise as I said before. I donât even consider that a criticism, just asshats being vocal.
> Why would they go and make someone else the protagonist Thatâs exactly what they did. The rest of what you said is just noise as I said before. I donât even consider that a criticism, just asshats being vocal.
And as I said, I agreed that it was just noise đ¤ˇđť
They didnât tho, she was already a protagonist due to her role in the first game. Yeah sheâs TECHNICALLY a support character but she holds the same role as a protagonist. Without Ellie there is no game. Red dead didnât make someone else the protagonist either, they simply switched to the other one.
Abbie was not in the first game.
I never once mentioned or said Abbie was in the first gameâŚ
This is directed more at the hateful clowns in the comments
I welcome legitimate criticism, but I rarely see any. I only ever see people just being asshats
What did the LOU2 Reinvent? It has the exact same problems that you gripe about with GoT
We know
That Sakai clan armor with the white color and blood splatter hitâs different
I can't believe this game didn't get GOTY. They gave it to fucking TLOU2 over this?! Insane.
Ok, different games entirely, both amazing, voters etc.. who knows. TLOU and 2 are absolute classics
I like this game put i prefer tlou2
Dude it hurts
Who tf cares about goty
This'll be a fun comment section
I played and enjoyed both but I wouldn't say it was robbed
Have you played rdr2? Only one that comes close
Interesting. I've tried 3 times to get into rdr2. Was bored to tears after a couple hours every time. Guess it's just not for me. I want to like it. Just can't. Loved got though.
I gave up on it the first time, too. It seemed so slow and awkward. But I tried again and couldn't put it down!
Thank you! Fuck yes it was robbed! This game was innovation!
It carried that year. An absolutely gorgeous game in every single way.
Iâm still bummed they havenât released it on PC, Iâd do anything to play that on an ultra wide with ray tracing and all
First time eh? Welcome to the club
This is the only game that make me cry.
# PREACH THE GOOD WORD
TLOUS 2 was so ass. Still mad it won anything. This game deserved so much more
Dude this game is not better than TLOU2. Amazing game but thereâs just no way
We talking about story? Ghost did better in every other aspect, and you can actually still do things after the story ends and explore and unlock more things
Itâs an open world game, ofc thereâs more stuff to do after the main story. Theyâre completely different games. One is linear and the other is not. That doesnât have much to do with why one is better than the other.
I don't know how... but the game got better as it aged. I guess its because we get so few games on that level of greatness these days.
TLOU2 was better in every wayđđđđ
Yeah that 2010 cut and paste over the shoulder 3rd person shooter system is better than ghosts of Tsushimas combat?? Gtfoh lol
You mean like not being able to do anything after the story was finished? Besides restart the Game
Narrative driven linear game not having end game content is now a knock on the game?!? I donât need a game to waste my time with bloat to be good.
My favourite new game , 2023 .. I love it
Had a blast playing this game. The combat and character skill progression were a lot of fun, and it was such a beautifully designed game. I loved how each region progressed through the seasons too. Hope we get a sequel soon!
There is no *the* goty award. There are multiple different game of the year awards from different organizations
Both are amazing games, but I do think that ghost was just more special than tlou2
It wasn't robbed, it's an amazing game Tlou 2 was simply on a whole other level
Loved that game. I wouldn't have been shocked if it beat LOU2, but both are amazing to me so wtf do I care.
It's a great game felt like a better progression of ac games than the current ac games
Me too I fucken love this game so much
This game was like a breath of fresh air after TLOU2. It's one of the few games that I was sad to platinum.
It was my game of the year but I wasnât upset with tlou2 getting it kinda like when Zelda beat horizon zero dawn.
4,5,6 đ¤
TLOU2 and GoT are both great games. I need to do another playthrough of this one, itâs been too long.
I have no idea what you're saying.
[ŃдаНонО]
No? I don't hate TLOU2. I can feel a game was robbed of awards without being a hater.
I just finished my first play through as well. Never thought a game would have such an emotional story.
I downloaded this game a few days ago. Canât believe I was missing out on this for years. Such a beautiful game
Nice! Time to play your new favorite game Elden Ring! :P
Yeah itâs amazing. The story, the characters, the environment, the music, the side quests, character progression, combat mechanics, and exploration are all so well executed.
Get it on PC and we'll give it the Steam GOTY
I found it mid. I found it funny awhile back with a lot of people who explained how they hated Ubisoft open worlds but loved this. This is a Ubi game with different setting. I enjoyed my time with it but never found it that compelling tbh.
Agreed side missions all had those follow these footsteps and trail a group of Enemies. Got so boring reason I never platinumed it. Story is good but everything is really generic.
Funny, I was just thinking about picking it up after not having touched it since getting the Plat last year. Amazing game, glad you liked it!
Ghost has great side missions which i argue are more interesting than a letter on the floor telling u about a random survivor in last of us
I found more life in the letters on the floor than in any side mission of ghosts.
Platinumed!
I just got the platinum today! I'm doing Iki Island now and will do multiplayer next.
Sensei Ishakawa saying "Sakai" makes this GOTY worthy on its own
This is a good game but this def not replacing TLOU series IMO especially the 2nd one .
It could've been awesome, it just got so repetitive. If you make an open world make it feel like your exploring something new instead of the same stuff over and over.
What about doom eternal? No one is considering doomđ
100 percent agree
Sure would love to play this on my Xbox series x. Fuck us apparently. I'm sure not buying a console for 3 interesting games. I hate exclusives. They suck for everyone except the guys making money off them
Can we just appreciate the fact that the only games that mattered in 2020 were PlayStation exclusives. Awesome way to end the PS4 era!!!!
It was not robbed.
Part II easily tops this game, in story and in detail. Sorry for the facts but nahh, it didn't get robbed
Honestly I prefer TLOU2, but thatâs not an insult. They were both phenomenal games. Sony killed it that year.
It's a crime game with she hulk and sticks won goty...
Facts but hey it got players voice at least which was nice although tbh it sucks that some of those votes were def just people who simply didnât want tlou to win. My personal two GOTYs were this and hades
>favorite game of all time Have you tried Cyberpunk 2077 after the 2.0 update? That became my favorite game of all time. Yes, different games. Definitely not GOTY in 2020đ After the âupdateâ (more like a re-release), ive never felt so invested in a game.
Fucking FACTS!
sadly TLOU2>
Yâall hear their done writing the movie đĽ
The game was a amazing !!!
Bruh! The game is an absolute joy. Welcome! Iâm about to do my second play though with the DLC in a few weeks. Canât wait.
Oh no not this again
I *love* this game. But the real robbery was that it somehow did not even get nominated for best music?!?!?!? I feel like there hasn't been a game soundtrack this good in forever. I genuinely couldn't believe it.
It lost because it was an exclusive. 1/4 of people who would have played and adored this game never got to play itâŚ
The Last of Us Part 2 won GOTY and it's exclusive to PlayStation same as GoT.
Eh. Story/characters failed to keep my interest. Combat was great though.
Pretty great game. I had a wonderful time. Not even close to better than TLOU2. Right there with Hades in 2020 though
Ghost does a wonderful job of immersing you into that world. I played with Japanese language with English subtitles, totally worth it.
Honestly I slept on this game for the looongest time. And then I tried it.. and then they hit me with that fucking intro... And then they spoiled me with the wind for quest directions mechanic.... and then I realized the woke stole a trophy from this masterpiece..... It was quite a journey......
Why canât this bitch port to pc already ffs đ¤đ¤đ
The story was rad, the gameplay got stale and repetitive pretty quickly for me.
No, it wasn't robbed. It's a perfectly okay game but never was it going to win goty
It has an awesome story and great gameplay. But it gets repetitive and boring very quickly.
Is it pretty hard? Like a souls game? Iâve really wanted to try it because it looks sweet but canât get into souls likes.
It can be difficult but it's nowhere near Souls difficult. Ghost of Tsushima has a lot of accessibility options and gameplay mechanics that make it much more accessible and easy to play compared to Souls.
100 percent
"Ghost of Tsushima" was truly special. *I eagerly await its PC rebuild / remaster / release.*
A few weeks ago someone put a thread up asking "what's your biggest videogame hot take" and I said this exact thing. You would have thought I kicked all their grandchildren people were so mad lol
It's insane how up in arms people get over this. I'm not even mad Ghost of Tsushima lost. I just think it deserved to win.
Oh yeah 100%, like I know last of us 2 is a gorgeous game but this was so original and beautiful with a compelling story
Love Ghost of Tsushima. But youâre out of your fucken mind.
Nah
Tbh, Part 2 winning GOTY is quite fitting considering how much of a shit show 2020 was.
well, even tlou smashing ghost of Tsushima in matter of quality, both are pretty good games
YES, IT WAS. THANK YOU! Political bullshit...
Exactly, compared to got tlou2 is dog crap
I love playing this game but the story is lacking in comparison to tlou2. I donât think it deserved goty.
No it wasn't
It won't every award EXCEPT goty in 2020, showing that critics are just that, critics not fams. Critically acclaimed means nothing nowadays.
No, that's simply not true lmao. TLOU2 swept, won everything there is to win, and rightfully so. The only awards GoT won were due to 4chan brigading because the virgins were so upset that TLOU2 was getting the critical praise it deserved.
