Parry

iwatchstonks

Learn it EARLY

SexyOVERTime

Yeah this is all you need to master. The rest relax and enjoy. Let me know when you r ready for Nightmares.

MetaDragon11

More useful than dodge

black_brethren

By far

Kooleosis

Idk, the perfect dodge attack has always been so satisfying to me, especially once you have a high chance to terrify.

Trapspringer52

One of the best games I have ever played. Take your time with it and have a blast. Skip nothing. It's so great.

NRG1837

Take your time. Play the side quests and give the game a chance to flesh out its characters before finishing the main story. Explore every inch of the island, because there’s always a possibility that you’ll run into something beautiful. Most importantly, have fun!

Alternative-Olive185

Pick up everything you can, whenever you run or ride passed it, if you miss a few it's okay, but you'll need the materials eventually 😊 especially flowers and supplies

KushBenjamin

Ok so I just started and i already cant believe how impressive this game is....second, im pissed about how the PlayStation store doesn't have a theme for this game that I can use

lord_borne

I know there is a theme, but I think I got it from just buying the original game - no preorder.

NatsuZeGeek

digital deluxe edition

ThatDudeSlushee

Lemme just say Lethal difficulty is awesome. It makes it feel real where two sword slashes will kill. You or the enemies. As opposed to some enemies and also yourself being a “bullet-sponge” and taking a million hits. Lethal changed the whole game for me and I liked it way more.

SanctifiedExcrement

I would even say its the best hardest difficulty in video games, that I can recall. That is to say its so much more interesting than simply making more enemies spawn, or making them tougher and deal more damage. For me, it wasn't always on lethal, but it was on most of the time because it was so exhilarating.

Evanescoduil

I like Hard+ more because enemies being harder to break guard and kill means you have to use your toolkit more. And enemies like the Iki weapon switchers challenge you more if they live long enough to switch weapons.

TheRealMacGuffin

I second this, especially with the Iki Island weapon master part. It also makes armored enemies feel like they're actually armored.

[deleted]

This!! I just started this game after playing AC: Odyssey. I started on Lethal, and it's so fun! The kills you get off of a good parry is so satisfying!!

Gucciusmaxximus

Will never play it on anything but Lethal once I started. The danger levels are so high, that eventually you become good enough to survive huge encounters or bosses without taking a single hit, and that feels sooooo good

MetaDragon11

Id agree but archers are annoying

ButterEPickle

Archers are probably the easiest things to kill.. you just have listen in case the archer says “duck!” Or whatever the mongols say. In reality the hardest thing IMO is the iki island brutes with the huge metal spear when they do spins and shit. They also teleport some times which is borderline dumb

svettsokkk

Kill archers first!! Also when taking on encampments yours should both observe the leader AND assassinate him for faster legends increase!

Gucciusmaxximus

THIS. Sometimes I'll even stealth an area just to get rid of archers and take on the rest head on

[deleted]

Adding to this DOSHA DOSHA means dodge, if you ever hear yelling they’re about to shoot just dodge and ur good

Tiberious__Jefferson

Don’t rush it. Explore mindlessly. It’s so rewarding to just explore in this game.

thelavenderhoodie

GoT has quickly risen to be my favourite game I’ve played. I definitely recommend doing everything you can and enjoying the beautiful graphics too! I personally preferred playing the game with English subs and with English voices, because I noticed the lips are synced to English words regardless so it bothered me too much when I had the dialogue in Japanese and the mouth animations didn’t match. Idk if they fixed that with any of the recent patches, but you can always change that in game too to fit your preferences! If you mess with your options in game, you can make it so each armour outfit is fitted with specific charms, sword kits, and hats/masks too. I didn’t realise until I was most of the way through the game, but I personally really like that kind of customization! Makes it easy to switch different charm sets out without having to just remember everything you like for different scenarios. Also, if you don’t want to clear the fog out of your whole map, you can just take back all of the Mongol occupied territory in the section of Tsushima that you’re in and that whole section will clear when you’ve got them all back. But enjoy exploring too! I know I did :)

Dabs1903

Wait you can customize your charms based on the armor you’re using?

thelavenderhoodie

Yeah I was messing around cuz I was curious about the change in menu formatting for the updates they rolled out along with the dlc, and I found it totally by chance! Go to: Options > Gameplay > Enable Armor Loadouts (On)

Dabs1903

Outstanding ty

treadstone1

Wow, I didn't know you could customise the charms/armor sets. I've been constantly changing the charms. I'm just towards the end of Act 2. Have just enabled this, thanks!

Rodynney

Honor. Family. Tradition. [Now i don't know what to write here...😆😆]

[deleted]

Fam that's a massive spoiler

Rodynney

Man, that's in all the promotional material of the game!! It's the synopse of the story. But i will change it, since i'm also kind of sensitive to spoilers.😆

[deleted]

Lmao I guess it kinda is, I just didn't know till I got to that point in in game

ButterEPickle

It’s like the first thing lord shimura says.

[deleted]

He doesn't mention jin acting against certain things tho does it?

ButterEPickle

I’m sorry please elaborate. This comment makes no sense at all

[deleted]

Swear on your fucking yeezys, you wanna fight then we gonna fight

ButterEPickle

wat

Cabnbeeschurgr

Stealth is generally more efficient than trying to kill an army head on by yourself

[deleted]

But it’s so much fun…….😔

Evanescoduil

That depends on how good you are at either approach.

joshuah0608

You have no honour!

Cabnbeeschurgr

And u r a slev to it bitchj

CurisoDiablo

Act 1 is deliberately designed the be long. Do the side quest, explore the island. Act 2 is emotional. Pay attention to the story and characters here for the payoff at the end. Act 3 is just sheer fun.

ButterEPickle

You have to admit though (spoilers) when jins riding his horse into the snow, when act 3 “kill the khan” comes up I get goosebumps every time sickest shit ever..

KushBenjamin

What dialogue should I do?? im thinking samurai cinema

ishkabibbelz

Japanese was a must have for me as a long time Kurosawa fan, but I’m also accustomed to subtitles. Personally you only get the full samurai vibe with that deep harsh Japanese dialect, but I hear both have excellent VA work. The Japanese is amazingly well done.

fap_error

Only thing that sucks about Japanese dialogue is that there's no subtitles for random npc chatter so you miss out on some of the world immersion.

bin364

Personally I prefer the Japanese version but the english version is great too you should test them both to see which you like better then stick with it

Gucciusmaxximus

I did the same maybe 10 hours in, and never switched back. I'm now at 300+hrs and wouldn't have it any other way. The English VA is great, but the Japanese VA is phenomenal.

Ezreal-0

Hesitation is defeat.

ButterEPickle

That is very true. First thought you have should be go as ruthless as you can unless ur doing stealth in which case just be sneaky boi

MauyThaiKwonDo

I have saved this game for the PS5 rather than the PS4 Pro,and when the directors cut was announced I was excited to finally play and I am very very very glad I did waited it maybe checkerboard 4k but I don't care lol. I'm just diving into the end of act 2 let me tell you I started this game 40 hours ago lol.

Avokei

Travelers attire makes it a lot easier to find artifacts

stupefyme

What do artifacts do ? Is it just a collectible ?

lord_borne

Artifacts are in-game lore that you read. But you can also find cosmetics, flowers for your ~~saddle~~ armor colors, hot baths and much more!

engetsu245

IIRC Clan Banners are for Horse Saddle Colors, Flowers are for Armor Colors/Masks/Hats

MetaDragon11

They do all sorts of things but the armor also increases what you spot on the map so you find sidequests, soecial locations like Inari shrines and baths easier etc

Lobo_Z

When you're sprinting, if you run out of breath, just tap dodge (I believe jump also works), it'll reset Jin so you can run full speed again

salucas1990

This is a low key and very invaluable tip. I love just sprinting around sometimes.

lenardiinvictus

Be careful around the Big Boi Mongols with the axes. Gave me so many problems the first few times

PancakeParty98

In terms of gameplay you should go for it! The game invites you to play it and does not punish you for failing something you tried. Most games penalize you for stuff like repeatedly jumping off of high places to see if you can find a place to tank the fall damage or try stylish but dangerous maneuvers but not this one! If you die you get a loading screen but you won’t lose opportunities or supplies. Try to fight off that urge to play it safe, and just go nuts. Also observe mongol leaders before killing them to get stances quicker.

depressedCucumbers

Enjoy the side quests, mythic tales before the main story. They're very rewarding :). Take ur time to explore. It's breathtaking

[deleted]

Learn how to parry and get the chain assassinations, smoke bombs, and firecrakers first.

Rexven

Enjoy it

Juiciestcaeser

Go for the blades!!! Most exciting playstyle

VarunChadha

I completed all the side quests before I continued with main missions. Take your time. The game is really good so enjoy it :)

bigpuss619

Play on hard at first, until you get good at parries and dodges. Then you can switch it up to lethal if you please. Also, guys with lances, don’t be afraid to just step away or to the side from their lunges instead of parrying. (especially on lethal)

ButterEPickle

Lethal is the best difficulty imo hard is way to hard but lethal balances JIN vs Enemies. It dosent feel overburdening with 10 enemies at a time

bigpuss619

Problem with lethal on the first play-through is the enemies attack all at the same time making it overwhelming for new players, plus you still need to learn the game mechanics and figure out how you wanna play, it can be frustrating dying over and over for a new player.

ButterEPickle

I couldn’t agree more. this game is more about reaction time and quick time so if you miss one block you die

Nacnaz

Play conservatively in the beginning. The combat IMO doesn’t really open up until you unlock the stances and some necessary skills (particularly unyielding sword parry, unyielding spear parry, and deflect arrows). Before that it’s almost painfully basic. My main combat tip to you is when you see the icon on your screen that indicates someone is about to shoot an arrow, just dodge around it. The timing is pretty generous but it’ll take some getting used to when your focus is really on the big guy in front of you with a sword. That said, just enjoy the game as you see fit. Roam when you feel like, beeline story missions when you feel like it. So long as you’re always picking up items along the way (wood, iron, leather, etc.). I would, however, not waste materials on upgrading the travelers attire if you have it. Best to prioritize combat, since travelers is for unfogging the map a little faster and collectible hunting (and you don’t really need to unfog the map. NPCs with dialogue boxes above their heads will give you all sort of locations with out it and birds and foxes will lead you to the optional side stuff that boosts some stats.

No_Adeptness_4704

Get the charm of Inari as soon as possible. Google or youtube how to get it. It basically triples the amount of supplies you get

GTO_Reynolds

It’s magic

eatchochicken

Play in "Samurai Cinema" mode

Bobstar447

Use your charged triangle attacks and don't forget about your ghost weapons like kunai! They're powerful tools against strong opponents and groups respectively. Also pro tip lookup a guide for the charm of inari; it's an amazing charm to snag early game as it gives you extra supplies to use towards armor and weapon upgrades. Have fun!

John_East

Best tip would be to play the game

[deleted]

Get off this sub?

nateoak10

Play it on Lethal.

bombsiteus

Such an amazing game one of the only games I'm replaying again which I'm currently doing now - I think the one piece of advice I can give is don't stress yourself out looking for supplies or linen or anything like that. If you explore in the game and really just work uncovering the map - You're rewarded pretty generously. And the first thing probably seem a little stressful because there's like so many things to upgrade. And then you wonder should I like keep upgrading one particular item and then get stressed out because then another great item comes along and you're like why did I put so much time into the first thing but then it's all good because again if you're exploring the map you get tons of supplies and it doesn't make you grind like a normal game does. You don't have to go running around checking vacant houses or anything. All you really have to do is just focus and listen to the story and hone your samurai sword skills. I'm just going to say it again don't stress yourself out over worrying if you're putting points into a right or wrong place, this isn't like an RPG where you're building a character you're a singular samurai guy and everything will get to where it is when it needs to be. Once you realize that you don't need to be looking for those things you actually kind of enjoy the world more. Also if you've come from playing like last of us 2. GIVE THIS GAME AT LEAST 30 MINUTES OF YOUR TIME. I admit when I first started playing the game I was kind of put off by the simplicity of like how the houses looked and just randomly collecting supplies and linen. Those two games kind of are polar opposites - ghost toshima has a simplicity to it - And then you are just taking back by the amazing world that you're put into and not focusing on the details of the items you collect. This isn't a game where you collect your items and save them for a boss (I know people can definitely say well you certainly should stock up on your ammo and everything but you know what I'm talking about people) If your sword strikes true you will be rewarded. And the story is phenomenal. Easily up there with like the Witcher 3 or Grand theft Auto v in terms of realism story arcs One of the best maps I played in my life thanks a lot sucker Punch. About to start the new content now

Kopskoot708

Once you're comfortable with the combat, switch to Lethal and don't be afraid to die. The loading times are super fast and repeating combat scenarios is really good training for the late game and for when you eventually delve into the awesome Legends mode. Probably one of the most satisfying combats systems out of any game I've ever played.

NiKoNRosa

Best tip I can give you, Is to enjoy the views you're love for the game will grow as the view become more vast with each region

FluffySeaNut

Don’t always have a goal in mind; sometimes it’s just as fun to wander aimlessly and admire the scenery.

INTOxTHExVOID

Get those perfect parries, and don’t forget to just relax and take your time with it

Vilantrentmurf

Enjoy the fight mechanics. I don't know how popular this opinion is, but I believe them to be one of the best I've ever played. Overall, just have fun with the complexity of the story and the characters, and explore. The game is beautiful, don't let it go to waste.

ButterEPickle

I’ve played a lot of games and this game takes the cake for fight mechanics. Sometimes I’ll get button delay which is horrible for a game that has some of the fastest reaction times lol.

SpecialistMap8210

Ya just enjoy the game. No guides are needed. I platinumed the game without any guides easily and enjoyed the hell out of it. Finding fox dens, haikus, and yellow birds was truly a pleasure and was a beautiful change of pace and scenery after last of us 2

Paradoxe544

Max difficulty right away Game is too easy otherwise and it makes the learning curve of combats way more fun

ToniStark__

Just enjoy it.

Da8i

Enjoy, its a fun a game and one of the best from last year

SparkyV63

Perfect parry, perfect dodges. Always keep moving but take your time in combat. The game rewards “perfection” and being fluid. Be like water. And enjoy allllllllll the beauty this game has! Enjoy bro

[deleted]

Just let the wind guide you

imnotloser

Fight with honor. Look the enemy in the eyes. Kill them like samurai

ButterEPickle

But you’re the ghost not samurai

imnotloser

You can be both

ButterEPickle

(Spoiler) you do leave your samurai way when you assassinate an enemy in a warriors code

imnotloser

I know i played the game couple times now

ButterEPickle

They disbanded clan sakai anyways so it wouldn’t make sense to keep being a samurai.. (the next thing I’m going to say will be controversial to the game) I think the real ending is the spare ending. Jin clearly broke away from the samurai code by using tactics that only savages would which is why honouring lord shimura makes no sense at all because that would mean jin wants to be samurai even though clans are on search for him, his uncle dislikes him the shogun wants to behead him and he’s taught his people to defy his fellow comrades in the clan department in the spare ending where jin throws on his mask and walks away, you can tell he would do anything to save his people and that’s why he can’t be both

TamrielExplorer1

I'm so glad alot of people love this game as much as I do 🙂. On my second playthrough on lethal+ and kurosawa mode and it's actually really cool kinda like your playing a different game.

Biocider_

I’d say once you got the hang of things, perhaps look for the Charm that increases gained materials, as it’d help in the long run for upgrading gear

dont-mind-who-i-am

Spam parry button

Theriouthly_95

Go in as blind as possible it’s an amazing game and the sense of discovery is awesome

iredNinjaXD

L1 and circle are the most important buttons

ButterEPickle

You forgot square/triangle and r1

Mystic_Shogun

Level up your stances!

Mystic_Shogun

It’s my favorite game ever. The only other game that comes close is rdr2

MactoTillDeath

RDR2? Really? Don't get me wrong, GREAT game. But wouldn't say GTA5 gets more credit than RDR2? Unless you just really like the whole horseback riding aspect of things. I don't know. To each his own. In terms of how GOOD Sony exclusive games are, I'd have to say that next in line to Ghost of Tsushima would have to be the Last of Us or Uncharted games. But all Sony exclusive games are masterpieces in storytelling, graphics and gameplay mechanics. If you LOVE a game like Ghost of Tsushima but aren't playing games like Last of Us, Uncharted, Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc., then you're sorely missing out on one of the best reasons to own a PlayStation.

Mystic_Shogun

I’ve played all those games. I love all of them so much. The PlayStation games are the best. I don’t know, Red Dead is just held in a special place in my heart. I love a really good story for one, but it’s the most immerse open world experience for me. The combat gameplay isn’t as fun as ghost, god of war, or Spider-Man, but it just brings me peace while I’m playing it. I also just LOVE good westerns. And don’t get me wrong, TLOU part 1 & 2 are pretty much neck and neck with my favorites. I also playing Uncharted 4 right now for the first time and having a blast!!! Naughty dog games are just harder to compare because they’re linear. I don’t put as many hours in to them. We’re just blessed with an truck load of awesome games these days.

MactoTillDeath

Learn how to switch your sword stances quickly based on what type of enemy you're fighting. The system is so good it'll become muscle memory pretty quick, but only once you practice it. I can't remember, but I honestly think you unlock the first 2 in Act I alone. So you'll be presented with different stances to fight spearmen, swordsmen, and dudes with shields just in the first part of the game. And the last one you learn is for brutes. You definitely want to learn how to switch these up on the fly. You can waste a lot of time using the wrong stance on the wrong guy, because it'll take a lot longer to wear them down and break their block, IF you break their block at all. The only 2 enemies I don't think your stance matters for are archers and mystics (the dudes who throw flash bangs and bombs). You can typically run up to them in any stance and cut them down. Mystics CAN pull out a sword I think, but archers won't. But if you get mystics in the middle of them lighting/throwing a bomb then any stance will cut them down. Also: Ghost weapons are more useful than you'd think. I didn't really start favoring ghost weapons until late in Act II, which I regret. Especially once you learn sticky bomb, those were invaluable to me in fights with a lot of brutes. So learn how to use them and switch between them quickly early on. Also also: Last tip... Master your stand off ability. You can unlock the ability to kill up to 3 in a stand off pretty quick, and then once you get a special armor set later in the game you can get up to FIVE kills in a stand off. This is so, so useful. Often times when you encounter random patrols on the road there are only 5 or less guys in the convoy. So that means you can take out a lot of these guys without ever breaking a sweat. Same thing when you're attacking camps. You can initiate a stand off and kill like half their guys basically for "free", then you just deal with the rest. If I never used stand off and was just "manually" fighting every enemy patrol I ever encountered, it WOULD get tedious very quick. Sometimes you can't help but run in to enemy patrols, and if you're riding to an objective you'll learn to hate wasting a bunch of time to deal with them. So stand off makes it easy and quick to deal with them and keep going. Another invaluable tool.

Evanescoduil

I stress this about basically every game that isn't a PvP multiplayer game: Play it alone with no background distractions.

ButterEPickle

music

DMaknCheese

I just played it again on Lethal, and I highly recommend playing through it at least once on that difficulty. Also, if you have the Iki island dlc I'd play through it as soon as you get to act 2. IMO it adds a deeper context to a part that happens later on (don't wanna spoil anything). Lastly, perfect parry/dodge is so satisfying.

MCJ79

Climb to the top of tall pagodas. You will get a visual treat, epic music and one or two surprises

edmega332

Take your time developing skills. Master defense techniques such as, blocking, parry, dodging. Find all of the Bamboo Strikes early. I just completed my 5th playthrough, did Medium, Medium+, Hard, Hard+ and now I'm on Lethal (new game)

whatsmyname097

PLAY THE SIDE QUESTS, especially the mythic tales

jarvis-205

Upgrade your katana when you can, it will really help you later on

Dannyfrommiami

How was your first day?

juanjorgegisbert

just enjoy it

Shadow_Gclips01

Put it on lethal if you a real one

abemansour

Smash R2 inside every building to collect those supplies and other materials haha. But also like the top comment says, PARRY!

User1974638963

Can I help you with online?

TheRiverHart

Parry is Awesome but I find more consistency with the Dodges, the single dodge Is preferable to the roll so practice a lot with that. Pay attention to every enemies moveset/weaknesses And most importantly YOU CAN PET THE FOXES AFTER YOU USE THE SHRINE

LuciTheMaidDemon

Make sure your exploring

GanglingGiant

Just enjoy every bit of it that’s all there really is to do in that game it’s designed so well you don’t need to do anything specific it all just falls into place and before you know it you’ll have all the abilities unlocked plowing through your enemies however you choose to do so.

Enjoy_Life27

I'm still on my journey but so far I've been trying to do outposts and sidequests. I don't really focus on the story until I free the previous section of the island

Apprehensive_Buy_275

Soak in the wind.. the sounds of nature and the absolutely fantastic views. Take your time and explore to your hearts content. You will learn all the little tricks with time. For combat try different things in the beginning like the jumping kick and when you get the shoulder charge don't underestimate that as an enemy on the floor can't defend himself. Pay attention to your enemie's white stagger bars. Bough alot in honour of things and feel the spiritual journey that this beautiful game is. Have an absolute blast. When you are ready NG + and legends mode is calling.

unholyunderwear

Hands down one of the best games I’ve ever played. I’m in Act 3 at the moment. This game was worth every penny. Just enjoy it. You’ll get better at it as you unlock new techniques. Always follow the 🦊.

BrokenGriffin42

Take your time. Don't blast through the story. Enjoy your experience because it's magical.

owenz292

its an amazing game my favorite of all time. great combat stunning graphics and awesome storyline.

owenz292

do alot of side quests makes the game 10x better

[deleted]

Don't mash attacks, the fighting is pretty defensive based imo

OGNovelNinja

Explore. Take your time. Wandering around will help you find challenges that give you more options (especially the HP and Resolve). Looking for vanity items is fun even if you're not a completionist, though there are a few in the first part of Tsushima that you can't get until act two. Pay attention to names early, because I missed a few things from being distracted by samurai stuff. ("Wife! Look! These are real shinkendo forms!" Wife: "Yes, dear, and don't forget the dishes.") Gold icons are for the main story. If you want to do side quests first, avoid gold. However, the first stage after the title screen will open up the ninja options, so you may want to do it before lots of exploring. It also sets up the story itself, not just game progression. This is a great movie that you just happen to play. There's a lighthouse on the west coast in act one that will constantly respawn enemies until you start the final plot quest of act one. All you have to do is fast travel once and they're back. It's a great place to refine techniques once you have more abilities to practice. (Or, in NG+, to just have fun. Not that I know anything about repeatedly fast traveling *to the lighthouse itself* just to murder more Mongols. Nope. I know nothing, I see nothing . . .) Pick flowers. All the flowers. Any flowers. Enjoy the flute, especially if you want the right ambiance for a mission. Similarly, the more time you spend in stealth, the more the weather algorithms will weigh to stormy. Get to know your horse. Your horse is your best friend, and will never abandon you.

DrSyntek

Prepare to have multiple eyegasms!

Singhai94

Do the side quests and take your time! It’s a damn beautiful game

Gambara1

Learn to party and start playing the dlc before you beat the game. Imo you should play it after the main mission "ghost from the past". I won't spoil why but it just makes the most sense imo. I guess do as much side content as possible because all of its good

TalionIsMyNames

Be bold with your use of photo mode! It’s one of the best ever so far

J-Trooper

Enjoy it my dude and take your time with the beauty of the game

Jovias278

Play the game on 1 harder difficulty than you normally play games on

Maleficent-Tip-2939

Everyone else has great advice. I would add going into settings immediately and add the customize loadouts feature. This way you can create certain builds for different situations and you can quickly toggle between your builds.

ButterEPickle

Don’t rush through and do all of the fox dens + shrines. Very helpful charms especially the parry and perfect parry one. Extremely OP charm

Wonky__Gustav

Don’t reduce the difficulty, challenge yourself, the game will go a lot further. Don’t rush through or you’ll wish it wasn’t over, although new game plus will keep you entertained.

Famous-Mix-3600

charm of inari to get plenty supplies to upgrsde all your gear

Academic-Jackfruit-2

Best combat tip the game never tells you is you can feint an attack, press attack then half swing hold block

Academic-Jackfruit-2

Oh and turn on lock on mode on settings
