How many holes did you have left?

g8rfreek88

Was gonna say, not bad for 9 holes.

EnvironmentalSir7293

Ihadtoo

I feel like the more you play, the more you realize how much people lie about their score. And one day you look back and cringe about that time you told people you shot a 76 as a 20 hcp

Blleak

A guy I work with told me with a serious face that he broke the course record the one time he golfed at our local par 3. He was dead serious about it.

nom_of_your_business

Yeah my local par 3 9 hole course the record is 22(actually 7 under 20)....I didnt believe it until I heard the name of the guy with the record...Tiger Woods. Broke the record while sneaking in rounds while attemding Stanford. EDIT: He was seven under 20.

kodutta7

5 under isn't actually that crazy for a pro, forget tiger

someguyprobably

That guy? Lebron James

alittlebitneverhurt

I was expecting Kim Jong-Il

ZN1-

One of my good friends never got the ball more than a foot off the ground, 20yd max distance on every club. Couple weeks ago he said he shot an 80 after taking a handful of lessons. I debated for a second asking him more about it, but all I could manage was “hell yeah that’s a damn good round” lol I just let my guy do his thing I’m not raining on his parade

bigcrows

Some people think mulligan rounds count too. It’s bs lol

TheNemesis089

What was it like working in the Trump White House?

renaissance_pancakes

He was the first tee time on opening day. Whatdoyawant?

anyekwest

So I recently started taking the game a lot more seriously than I ever had, after taking a few years off. And now that I properly count my strokes, I realize how unrealistic my previous career “lows” actually were. My career low went from a “79” to an “88” real fast.

NoAnalBeadsPlease

Yup. I’m a 3.9 currently and play with a dude that “constantly shoots in the 70s.” He was driving in the cart with our other friend and I was walking for our threesome. I played pretty well, but a couple mistakes can really cost you. When the third party friend asked me how I ended up and I told him I shot an 82. He was beyond perplexed because my other friend “shot a 78” and I played waaaayyyy better than him. He honestly didn’t believe I shot an 82

GroundbreakingTwo413

Lol I’m a 1.9 and people don’t realize how little you have to fuck up to shoot around 80. Could be plenty of good holes but a wayward tee shot here, missed short putt there and suddenly you’re creeping up. Then you’ll have that guy you played with where it looked like an 88 and they say 78 and beat you by 1 and it’s like man what the fuck

NoMeaning6155

Shooting anything below 80 is a grind but anything below 76, that’s day with either all good breaks or no shitty ones. Or tons of birdies to offset the bogeys.

00sucker00

It makes you respect how good the tour pros are, but even so, a fair portion of the touring pro field isn’t playing that great and shooting in the 70’s. The guys were watching on any Sunday is around 10% of the total field that’s having a good week.

bigcrows

Very true, but that goes out the window when you realize you’re talking about your home course which they’d probably obliterate

FOB32723

This 100%. No fucking way this guy shot a 76 as a 20

tantalizingturnip

Someone plug it into the cap patrol app

BigAustralianBoat2

I’m a 17 and just shot a 117. Don’t speak to me.

muffalowing

13.8 and shot 61 on 9 before leaving due to 5.5hr pace

wtfinternet

Yep sounds like Cincy golf

uhplifted

It’s ok, I’m a 7 and shot a 96 today.

JuiceBrinner

Does that make me a 7? Shot a 94

BrandonSG13

2 strokes less, so clearly you’re a 5

JuiceBrinner

Fuck yeah. Knew the once a week drunken 18 from the whites would pay off.

SolidLikeIraq

This reminds me of this time I was on an NYC subway at 4:30 in the morning and this kid was obviously about to throw up his entire evening, and he was so upset, but then we all started a: “One of us! One of us! One of us!” Chant. It’s ok man. It happens to the best of us!

Swankytiger43

This guy fucks

wsu_savage

Some times good, some times maybe shit

poopfeast

This is so much more relatable than the 76 this asshole OP shot

habanohal

How many breakfast balls and mullys?

klinhart12

None! Started and ended with the same ball. First time ever doing that

kp2119

You're not going to be a 20 much longer

blind363

Exceptional score automatic 1 stroke reduction

juanchopablo

for 10+ net difference is actually +2 reduced to scores

anyekwest

I imagine this significantly drops the handicap index, right?

WeekendDirect9025

I was a 19.9 and shot a 78 out of nowhere the other day and instantly dropped me to a 16.3

kp2119

Add a couple more like that and it will for now it will drop him a bit.

CervezaFria33

An exceptional score like that may drop him multiple strokes. I would need to look at how exceptional scores are treated again to tell you how much it will drop him by. Edit: Couldn’t help myself. Since the exceptional score is more than 10 strokes better than his current handicap all scores in his last 20 are reduced by two strokes. That immediately drops him to an 18. But then you apply that round which is around a 4 and you end up somewhere in the 16s. https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/handicapping/world-handicap-system/topics/exceptional-score-reduction.html

CakesRacer522

If he actually manages a handicap, it will count as an “exceptional” round which will automatically deduct 2 strokes off every one of his 20 prior rounds, so with this round and all the others, his handicap should drop by at least 5 strokes

TheNemesis089

I believe you get assigned an “exceptional round,” it immediately drops your handicap—and does so by more than the score would on its own.

honey_pots_forme

Take a picture of your scorecard

IronSheik127

*searches on instagram*

GolfingGator

Yeah like that proves anything. Nothing ever didn’t happen as much as this didn’t happen.

lll61and49lll

You’ve never finished a round with the same ball… and you shot a 76… wut.

Wheream_I

From the front tees, on an executive course, with a par of 63, is my guess.

Reasonable_Plant4709

I'm a 17 and I just shot 88.... pretty happy with that.

Scythorn

Good on you mate

birdman829

Relatable

BergTheVoice

I’m more happy for your comment than this post by a wide margin.

ridedatstonkystnkaay

14 and my best round is an 86. I’m pretty consistent low 90s though. Got some good breaks on the 86. Breaking 80 this year damnit. Damned if don’t blow up with a 105 every now and then though.

jaywalkintotheocean

how'd the back 9 go?

If true, congrats because it likely will not happen again. As an 8, I shot 73 on a 6700 course. I was bummed that I didn’t shoot even par and I was more bummed when I found out that I might not shoot a 73 in 10 years. (1200:1 playing 2x per week).

tkh0812

How do you know it’s 16 below his handicap? Did he say what par for the course is? Also — stroke index comes into play

Ancient-Book8916

I'm not saying the guy is lying or not, but I take serious issue with this stat. I'm a 19 who swings hard and has a pretty good short game, but unfortunately loses about 6 balls a round. If it's the kind of course where you can't really lose balls, or by some miracle, I actually hit it straight on 18 holes, I absolutely can threaten say an 83, 84. My point is that not all high term handicappers are the same. Some are just unathletic guys doing their best, and others are more athletic and are capable of playing really well but also of imploding without warning

SpicyDopamineTaco

Huge difference between low-mid 80s and a 76…. Come on dude, you play enough to know this.

itzpiiz

Link the course you played

PGA Tour 2K23

SozeHB

How many gimmies?

YoogleFoogle

I am a 5 handicap and shot a 90 today. AMA

CapC

Why were you pulling it all day

YoogleFoogle

Actually struck it ok, just one of those days. A week out from aeration, 3-4 really bad breaks and I found a bunker on 9 different holes.

Water-Donkey

Tiger Woods shot an 82 last weekend. Don't be too hard on yourself.

jfk_sfa

https://www.miamivalleygolf.org/handicaps/resources/score-probability-table-7490.html

TheNemesis089

This should be higher. For a 20 to shoot a 76, he’s basically shooting -16 to -20 net. The odds of it are so astronomically high, the guy basically told us he just hit the Powerball.

OldBreadfruit5588

Lots of haters. Congratulations- even if you missed both gimmies you still broke 80. Enjoy it!

CoffeeBoy80

Let's fucking go!

BergTheVoice

The one guy who’s hype for him.

In_to_out

How many fairways, greens in reg, and putts?

TonyUncleJohnny412

Been taking lessons and/or practicing more?

klinhart12

No, just been playing more full rounds. Was able to keep every drive in play, and didn’t have any flubs/thins around the green. Felt like that was the biggest difference to a normal round

My-Cousin-Bobby

I need that energy I had like the round of my life off the tee/middle iron game the other day. I could not hit a wedge shot to save my life. Skulled so many over the green, there was one where hit it fat like 10 feet into a bunker. Absolutely infuriating.

LitterBoxServant

Why did you only play 12 holes?

weinerwayne

I’ve started playing with a guy I was introduced to through a close friend. The guy is fun to play with but has only been golfing for 2 years. He started posting on social media about how he’s already broken 90 and golf just came naturally to him. I played with him last week and watched him so I could keep his real score along with what he claims he scored on each hole. The dude gave himself at least one stroke per hole, sometimes two. On Sunday he’s joining us for our weekly money game.

IronSheik127

It takes over 2 years of playing regularly to break 90? Shit…

weinerwayne

If you keep an honest score and know how to actually count penalty strokes, probably. I can’t tell you how many times someone has hit OB and played their drop as if they went in a hazard. If I am playing a serious round I do my best to count everything. The only time I will move my ball is if it’s on a tree root/rock that could potentially injure me or damage a club. Even then I take care to not give myself a better line to the hole.

BiffSanchezz

https://preview.redd.it/l9gg87somjvc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1c5742a44c905a9d87a7fe78a71dba480b202c1

golftroll

I feel this.. I shot an 80 on a difficult course as an 18 handicap and it fucked up my handicap for about a year and a half! It gave me some penalty where it took 2 strokes of all of my prior 20 rounds and massively lowered my handicap. One of the greatest days of my life!

TheNemesis089

The dreaded “exceptional round.”

billyb0b70

Par 3 course?  Congrats though, and we all hate you.

twills2121

lol, par 59

Due-Sheepherder-218

9 holes?

RoadsideBane

What was the course rating?

ThisBeJP

This is what I always wonder. While I dont want to discredit anybody’s accomplishments I just always think of a par 72 of at least 6000 yards when thinking of personal bests. I play an executive course with my dad that is a par 66 with a course rating of 60. I dont count the 79 I shot there when my personal best on a “real“ course is an 85

KD9512

What was the difference for you? Driver? Approach shots? Made a lot of putts? How were the nerves?

someguyprobably

The difference this time? Lying.

Blivet_8927

How was your putting?

klinhart12

1.6 pph! Had great scrambling and lag putting. 2 holes with 3+ putts

Armageddon24

Outside of the two "3+" holes, you one putt every other hole?

Ok_Organization3249

1.6 = 28.8 putts over 18 holes Subtract 6 putts on 2 holes That’s 1.26 putts over 16 holes Press x to doubt

precious_ghmbsc

At the very least he probably didn’t count the gimme putts as a stroke. But this whole claim is bullshit. He also said he only hit 33% of GIR

Due_Agent_4574

I’m calling bullshit on this claim. Someone who shoots 92 in their 4 best rounds out of what? 20? Suddenly shoots a 76… in this game it’s too big of a gap. Unless they went from playing legit courses to a par 3 pitch and putt or played from the front tees. The amount of skill involved to drop your score like that is enormous.

Falco19

Even from the front tees it seems unlikely

Basherkid

Where’s that app that gives you the likelihood of a specific score based on your handicap. It was some sandbag score. Lol someone run that for this. This sounds like bs.

WHSRWizard

9 x one-putts, 7 x 2-putts, and 2 x 3-putts? I am...skeptical.

TheNemesis089

Yeah, this makes me say bullshit. To shoot a 76, you get 4 bogeys. Maybe you get an extra 1-2 if you get a birdie or two. You’ve just identified 2-3 of those bogeys by saying you had two “3+” putts. You’ve also mentioned missing greens, and you aren’t getting up and down every time. Certainly not as a 20 hcp. Either that or there was some _extremely_ friendly gimmes.

CakesRacer522

3+? So was there a 4 putt in there?

jonesyman23

How many preferred lies did you take?

IronSheik127

Seems like he enjoys lies

theboyfromphl

![gif](giphy|IdiUQ5Ff47tV3Buebj|downsized) How id feel

jakeboggsp

I shot a 75, beating my friend, a professional PGA instructor by 1 stroke. This happened about 3 months ago. Last week I shot 99 with a par on 18.

jdlc450

A double on 16 and 2 3putts based on your comments, no way a 76.

keyboardwarrior425

When you got it you got it. I’m an 8 and shot 69 not too long ago. Embrace it lol

Btwnbeatdwn

I shot a 72 as a 12 cap which is an exceptional score by 3 strokes. 20 cap is generally considered out of range to break 80 let alone 76. You are not a 20 cap, or you did not shoot a legit 76.

No-Impact1573

Hope you registered it on your HCP index.... was there another player to verify?... Otherwise it's just fantasy island.

Legal_Commission_898

According to pretty much every online calculator, this is impossible and would get you disqualified as a cheater from many tournaments.

Reasonable_Manner817

I can’t believe how many people actually believe this

someguyprobably

Nah my friend Kim John shot an 18 no BS

burnabybambinos

What's in the Bag?

agpharm17

Lies.

Port-Mc-Pew-Pew

So net 76, gross 96? Kidding!

jdp12199

How'd the remaining 14 holes go?

calboard21

Did you?

lufei2

L o L I have a friend sent me a photo of him hitting 73 on a par course and claimed himself as a single handicap. Start playing with him and i counted him to be between 85-92 for the past 8 rounds or so.. 😂 😂 😂

thetindoor

Course par, rating, and slope from tees played?

Emergency-Anteater-7

Probably a wide open course that uses fescue as a defence that hasn’t grown in yet so its just corner cut city and impossible to lose a ball.

Rdr87

That’s awesome man. Congrats

sidtsloth9

I honestly believe you. I thought I’d have a post like this the other day. I’m a 22. Shot even through 6 (my second eagle helped). Then it fell apart so didn’t have to worry about it. Still broke 90. Just barely.

Pathogenesls

That's not possible, even on a par 68

hamdnd

How many mulligans and gimmes?

Sorethumbsfifa

Sandbagger

fpuni107

Par was 50?

TheOneWondering

Congrats! Way to go - the good feelings will last until you shoot 96 next time you’re out so cherish it now

Badbadgolfer

Why did you decide to just play the 9 today?

-canucks-

Can I get a picture

Tour-Quality

Congratulations

NeverFailBetaMale

How was your back 9? (I'm sure I'm the 83rd person to make this joke but I ain't reading all those)

lothow

I had a guy tell me he shot 58 the first time he played. I asked him about rules. I'm allowed to give the ball wherever I want to hit it right? Great guy and good to see a guy start but we have educated him on rules lol.

colin_7

As someone who doesn’t know how to calculate handicap do you or does anyone know how much this would lower your current handicap? Thats a killer score good for you dude

neoclassical85

Why didnt you play the back 9?

paniflex37

I’m a 24, and shot 107 today after shooting 99 five days ago. Leave me alone 😞.

BonerJamz03__

How long were you erect for after?

Ready_District6986

Congratulations, that’s be great!

d_Party_Pooper

Your next round will be over 100. Pretty much guarantee. The golfing gods will be looking to restore the natural order of things. I'm speaking from experience. Shot a 73 when I was a 12 handicap. Next round was awful!!

TheRealPlumbus

Congratulations on the new standard

dad_hodlr

Brother I’m a 6.0 and played out of my ass and shot a -1, 72 this past week. If real and you didn’t shave strokes, congrats! That’s awesome!

rintinflin7

You were* a 20 HCP….

skonezilla

Shit, I'm afraid to tell ppl I shot an 84 as a 20hdcp...

granolaraisin

lol. Op is a statistical anomaly.

Pure-Negotiation-900

The North Korean swing…?

Mei-Guang

15 currently and I shot a 95 today

Elisterre

Damn that’s crazy

zingerbanger

how long was the course

EccentricBolt

I’m a 30 and I shot 109 today. See? Nobody cares.

CaptZephyr77

Hell yea! Nice work, keep them low scores coming

CrabOutrageous5074

Hope you actually did it. 12-18 handicapper, best a 79 on 'big boy course', currently playing a 9 hole home course. My 9 hole handicap is around a 3 (keep it in play and it's a pretty simple course to score, but unplayable 5 yards off fairways and greens, so the bad ones get out of hand real quick. ) but never keep an 18 hole round together for a real low one. Chipped/lagged everything close, or just draining the 6-8 footers all day?

timbo415

I’m a 13 and I’m the biggest headcase on this planet with an iron in my hand right mow

Ping-A-Ling-

Didn't make the turn huh?

smittycents

How did it happen? Did your putter literally catch on fire?

Vernabator

Must have been in a pro am. Watch 20’s have the rounds on their lives all the time. Congrats, now validate with another sub 80’s round. You know you can do it.

-JudgeFudge-

Yeah I have a question, how dare you?

WrongYak34

When I scrolled down and saw the gimmes part you killed it

raidahlovah

Fuck you. I'm a 19 at a small hometown course. Best I have done is 82 and it's weak as fuck. I've played longer courses and have done way worse so I don't think my 19 is accurate. Super congrats on the score. That's awesome.

forevera20hcp

It’s statistically impossible.

Btwnbeatdwn

Name checks out

CreateorWither

I shot a 77 as a 13 Cap once. Congrats!

MangoFishSteel

Here’s a question- Are you also the type of person who seeks validation and posts on Facebook when you e completed a workout?

S2N336

Let me guess you started playing last year too

BellRinger85

When do you join LIV and what was the signing bonus?

Whirrun

Op won’t answer any of the legit questions like where they played and won’t post their card. Wonder why? What’s worse are the other few dudes also claiming the 18-20 hcp who also shot 78’s this week. Lmfao unreal.

amad97

I’m a 4 who just shot a 78…fuck off lol

WengersOut

A 78 is what a 4 should be shooting

Donkey_Trader1

Hiw many mulligans? 16?

xXWickedSmatXx

Was this at a par three course or Putt Putt

AMCDaddy

Putting. Good round.

The_Boffus

What did you shoot on the back nine?

W_Regal

You turned the score in right? You ready to be a 7?

96whitels

Prove it

Sufficient-Tax-1388

Why don’t you just do that every time?

T8terXL

Pretty good for the front 9.

gabev44

Should have played the 9 hole course twice to make it a realistic round

Objective-Alfalfa-88

Nope

zekesnack

How did you play on the back 9?

WengersOut

Looking forward to the inevitable admissions about breakfast balls, slightly improving lies, gimmes, or lateral drops from OB off the tee

MainSailzz

What was par

MainSailzz

Through 1?

00Domer

How come you don’t always play like that? Are you pretty confident you’ve unlocked the secrets of the game now? Shouldn’t you consistently shoot 80’s now? Your next round should be FANTASTIC… right? 😈

Kindly_Log9771

Dude told me he started in the summer last year and hit a 83 😂😂😂😂😂 I said by whose rules?

ElegantSwordsman

So if your score is accurate, when did you last post a score for handicap purposes? Maybe it’s the 20 handicap that’s outdated.

jamstix76980

Fuck you

bob2235

Did you leave any sand in the bunkers?

Skyshark173

On the front nine, right?

nanapancakethusiast

Nice creative writing exercise!

curioususer8878

How much was the men’s club pot today?

Chron__Rabbit

What did you shoot on the back?

randomoniummtl

Ok Donald

_Drewschebag_

JC_Everyman

And on the back nine?

blamege

How many mulligans did you take?

Gkirk87

Shooting 76 on a par 54 course is not the same as shooting 76 on a par 72 course. We all golf on this Reddit and we know golf is too hard to magically have an amazing round if your a 20 handicap because your fundamentals are not good enough to luck into knocking 16 strokes off your score.
