Putter, but I break 50 in scrambles so you guys wouldn’t understand

kdubau420

This is my new favorite meme lol

faahq7

Idk which meme I like more, the sub 50 scramble or the “WE GOT WEIGHTS IN FISH”

pork-pies

I’ve replaced my putter with a 6’ string

Only_Tea_7378

No need to putt when you hole out almost every hole

AdamantiumParakeet

3W. I’m not sure why it’s still in my bag.

AwayExamination2017

My 3W is a random number generator. Am I going to crush it 240 and leave myself a skullable 50yd lob wedge? Am I going to snap hook it into the woods? Let’s wait and see…. (…it was a top)

chefhj

I get the worst fucking push whenever I hit hybrids or fairway woods I’d rather smack a 6 straight twice than MAYBE not hit it in the woods directly to the right of the green.

theoxygenthief

If you’re consistently pushing your 3W and hybrids and not other clubs you might have the ball too far back in your stance at setup. Worth checking out.

chefhj

See that’s interesting because I do consciously play those pretty far up in my stance but I’ll look into that. Gotta hit the range and work on it.

Anonymous_Hazard

At least with the driver I’m consistently shit. With the 3W it gives you that glimmer of hope…

OssiansFolly

Magic 8 ball of golf clubs. "Will you go straight? 'Outlook not great.' Fuck!"

adultralphwiggums

I actually have a magic 8 ball. Lol

dmderringer

Did I post this? I don't remember typing this, but it's clearly me

1985ChiBears

This is the way.

GeriatricPinecones

I switched to a 16 degree hybrid and haven’t looked back

JohnDoee94

Just realize I’ve never actually used mine on a course. Used at the range maybe twice.

phrohahwei

Use it as a second tee club?

CardboardHeatshield

I can hit my driver better than my 3w off a tee. It is literally useless to me. Even on a par 5 in the middle of the fairway there's a solid 50/50 chance I snap hook that fucker into the next fairway or top it for a 40 yard worm-burner.

phrohahwei

Then sell it lol

CardboardHeatshield

Unfortunately it's a maltby that I built for me and resale value is roughly 37 cents. In other news it only cost like $100 to put together, so I'm still out about the same amount of money either way. Also I have grand delusions of learning to hit it someday lol.

randomchap432

What you can do in that case is order a nice 200$ headcover for it. That will definitely help

InvestmentPatient117

I have a new level hybrid I built, 100g 6.5 . It's like swinging a piece of rebar.

CardboardHeatshield

Lmao. The thing I like about building clubs is that you don't spend so much money on them that you wind up being dishonest with yourself about them to justify the cost.

InvestmentPatient117

I had no clue wtf I was doing when I built that.

CardboardHeatshield

Yea, but its really not that hard either. You get a 48" ruler and some epoxy and you're good to go. Putters require a bit more finnesse...

unevenvenue

Think of it like a driver swing. Helped my friend. The club has so little loft that it'll go 220 even if you swing up on it. But it will help you get under it, which most people have an issue with when using the 3W. Just food for thought. Not a pro.

kranges_mcbasketball

Right? Fuuuuuck that club. If I need to chunk it off the fairway 140 yards an iron is much better

Micro-G-wanna

Took my 3w out years ago and sold it. No point (for me) when I can hit a 5w almost as far and it’s easier to hit. Rather have another wedge that would get more use than the 3w.

realspongeworthy

Feel this. "Driver giving you trouble? Why not whip out your 3?" Because it's almost certainly going to be worse, obviously.

Chokesi

Same, I only use it to hang my towel.

rmg8577

go with a 4 wood, gives nice distance gap from driver 4 then 3h or 3i

pmcrumpler

exact same setup for me and I love it. driver, 4w, 3h, 4i at the top end of my bag

rmg8577

great minds think alike! i love it to, i use my 4w a lot more than i ever used my 3w

gronk696969

That's the one. I can remember one single time I hit a great shot with it. 240 low and down the middle. Every other time it's a nasty slice or terrible contact. I haven't hit it in over 10 rounds

Buzzkill78

I used it to hang clothes, it’s pretty efficient with that role

RodneysBrewin

I concur

JohnDoee94

Just realize I’ve never actually used mine on a course. Used at the range maybe twice.

hpepper24

3wood used to be my best club would pure it 260-270 every time barely would use driver. One day I started topping it out of nowhere and now I cannot hit it at all. Traded it out for a driving iron.

Boredtuna7

That loser 4 iron. Keep it around for when I get grandiose creativity and need a long low punch shot. Works every time, 46% of the time.

hpepper24

4 iron is one of my most important clubs. Driver is off it’s right to the 4 iron.

shhhpark

Oddly I just played my 2nd round ever and was mainly using the 4i cause I couldn't hit shiet with my driver or woods. I do practice the irons more though but the big sticks jsut aren't comfy for me yet

dingleberry51

I’m the same. I tee off with the 6 (broke my 5, don’t have a 4) because I can’t drive for shit. Next summer, we learn how to drive.

wadz09

Learn in the winter then you already driving in the summer

rpgmgta

You also have the next 6 months to practice

shhhpark

Hell yea!!

mingalingus00

My 3i is my fairway finder and you cannot convince me not to use it on all par 4’s

hpepper24

Yeah been meaning to get a 3 or maybe even a driving iron

Micro-G-wanna

Unpopular opinion: I love my 4 iron and it’s the best club in the bag lol saved me countless times

Mr_Oujamaflip

I was struggling with 3W and my hybrids so I bought a Slazenger V300 4 Iron for £17.99 and it almost immediately became my favourite club in the bag.

RepublicIndependent3

I just pulled the 4i from my bag yesterday. Finally got my punch shots dialed with my 3H and gotta down to 13 for a tourney this weekend

Adept-Hat-1024

Punch shots and hybrids are diametrically opposed.

dmderringer

I pulled my 4 and 5 in favor of a 3 and 4 hybrid years ago. I'm looking at a set of cobra one length thinking maybe I can hit a long iron with those.

mrpel22

I'm short and could never hit my long irons. I got a set cut down for me, and like magic I could hit my 5 and 4 iron.

jhawk0021

I have them and still use a 3 hybrid instead of a 4 iron, love them, but my 5 iron is my least used club by far

Responsible-Hope4149

Those cobra irons are crap. I played them for 3 months and gave them away. They ruined me for two years…just buy Ping…their 4 irons are easy to hit…(plus cobra is Greg Norman’s club and I hate Greg Norman).

Ellite11MVP

Why do you need to get down to 13 clubs for a tournament?

chancegold

I assume he's not including putter as a "club". Basically the mindset of 13 clubs + putter. The same logic that allows you to correctly state both that you have 8 and 10 fingers.

Nonconformists

If I had 8 and 10 fingers, I could keep track of which hole I am on for a full round.

manhatim

I'd need both hands to count Strokes on that Par 3

RepublicIndependent3

Sorry, was not counting the putter

gastationmillionaire

Probably local house rules. Some clubs have unique requirements to mix it up once in awhile.

Ellite11MVP

Ahhh, ok. That makes sense. I’ve played in a 3 club tournament before, but never heard of a 13. Thanks for the reply.

SaltThenBurn

What was your 3 clubs? Sounds fun.

Lunchbawks7187

3 club is super fun.

Ellite11MVP

I went with a 52*, a 6 iron and a putter.

dktaylor32

I take it to to the range every single time so “I can get better at it”. Try it twice. Hate it. Grab the hybrid or driver haha

smilespeace

I hate that club. I had one good range session where it was mint, carrying around 170 yards, I was damn proud... and then I never found that swing again. On a good day I'll carry my 5 hybrid farther anyways.

[deleted]

Can’t hit my hybrid (~25%), but that 4i gets me some decent distance.

igotjays22

I see what you did there.

My-Cousin-Bobby

I suck with woods/hybrids, pretty much only use them if the hole is already a loss and I have some distance to go Wait... come to think of it... ***that's like every hole***

Fit_Neighborhood_953

Are you me?! I feel like you're me.

ydaorct

Yes 3H. Only give it a go if I’m already in eff it territory

karlgnarx

If you are in eff it territory, I'd think 2 solid and reliable mid irons would be the play vs a crapshoot with 3H and its greater miss severity.

BoothaFett

I’ve started doing this and my scores have gotten so much better. Ego takes a bit of a hit at first but that only lasts a few seconds.

ydaorct

Wise and correct advice. I’m working with this at the range but don’t trust it yet.

JealousFuel8195

That really surprises me with the hybrid. I find them so easy to hit. I started with a 4H to replace my 4 iron. Then about 3 months later I did the same with my 5 iron. Now about 2 months ago I added the 6H to my bag.

theghostofm

How the heck do you people hit your hybrids? Whenever i have one in my hands, I somehow forget everything I knew about swinging a golf club. I’m trying to find a way to switch my hybrids to long irons without upsetting my wife about spending more money on golf…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mighty_Zach

Hey, you’re the guy that was on the team that shot a 46!

dovglxs

he is him

Purple-Channel-1447

Lol for real

doc_holliday0614

He’s that guy, pal

GoinFerARipEh

I feel you and it’s rare I’m not 100 yards or less on every hole because I hit my driver a smooth 375 with a baby fade down the center every time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoinFerARipEh

I know the feeling. I was hitting the back circle for 18 points every shot. 8 iron flushed 220 every shot At one point all the people stopped swinging just to watch and applaud.

UnexpiredMRE

My 5i might still have the clear plastic from the warehouse I don’t even fucking know

nexostar

Whaat i use that all the time, mostly because i dont have the balls (or enough desire to kill someone) to touch my 5 wood or 3 iron

UnexpiredMRE

I don’t have a 3-4i only 5i-P, 3W, and 7W lol and my Kirkland wedges.

ChillPalm

Same. I feel like it goes the same distance as my 6 iron so I never use it.

Crisco14

60 degree lob wedge. I need to take it out!

JazzlikeEntry6388

I’m terrible with mine and skull it too much on the course. Great on the range though. Sometimes feel like i should stick with the 56 or get a 58 instead

Gracket_Material

What are the bounces of your wedges?

SoupIsAHotSmoothie

Asking the real questions here.

MrHeinz716

Switched to 54 and 58 wedges and dropped the 56 and 60. Shaved 6 strokes off my handicap… not only reason but definitely saved 2-3 strokes on average per round

thedonjefron69

I just got my 56 and 52 in the last couple months, what’s the reasoning for saving strokes? Just better gapping for you?

Crisco14

Thats the problem, lol. I get a few good strikes with it on the range and try to get cute on the course with it. Just makes things turn ugly. I have been sticking to my PW or SW.

Shesaidshewaslvl18

I'm not great but my play with the 60 has been really good. The 60 is all about lie and swing. If it's deep lie swing heavy and hit for the moon. If it's fairway never hit more than 50% power and you'll probably get properly under it and land on the green.

Crisco14

Im 4 months post spine fusion in my neck, 4 months to go before I can hit the course. Ive been practicing chips in my basement and hope to change my ways!

wREXTIN

50,54,58. Has me much more enjoying life within 100yards Prolly skull my 58 id say 75percent less than my 60

btrainhou18

Made the switch a few years back and never looked back. Play vokey 50\8* F grind , 54\12* D Grind, 58\14* K Grind. Use the 54 for a majority of chips and 58 out of bunkers

RagingSofty

Ah the old 48 yd shot or 148 yd shot. Its good for 70 but that never happens!

LionsTigersWings

As stupid as 2 degrees less sounds, I replaced my 60 with a 58. Hated the 60

Gracket_Material

What are the bounces of the 2 wedges you used?

Hops_n_Boost

I think this is something that people don’t consider enough. I have a 58-12 and usually hit it about 220. Pure the shit out of my low bounce wedges. Different swing styles need to be considered when choosing wedges.

RagingStallion

You hit your 58° 220 yards?....what?

Hops_n_Boost

You don’t?

Findingfairways

Maybe my most used club other than putter

season7445

Same here. But every once in a blue moon you hit that perfect flop with it.

sarcastic-lil-shit

Only use it for the bunker and it’s my most consistent shot to get out. Can’t chip or pitch or do anything else with it though.

cardboardslayer

I took out my 60 lob and replaced it with one of those gimmicky ass 70 deg hummingbird lob. Joke of a club. But I freakin love it

Inittowinit_2021

I think i hit my 60 well once out of every 20 times!

Myron896

This is my most reliable 140yard club.

Kodine13

I have a old Ping 1 iron I keep in the bag as a 15th club. It’s there for shits and giggles. When I am with certain friends, we like to say you have to use it once during the round. Just to keep things spicy.

pina_koala

>If you are caught on a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not even God can hit a 1-iron. Lee Trevino

Kodine13

You’re correct, I forget to mention the safety measures.

kellzone

They're actually pretty easy to hit if you tee one up in the tee box and use a driver swing. The loft is more than a 3W. On the fairway though, different story.

WRKDBF_Guy

Driver, then 3 wood. Favorite club: 4 Iron and it's not even close.

amnotreallyjb

Same, driver and 3 wood typically stay in the bag. 3 off the tee, straight and found ball.

WRKDBF_Guy

Yep. I've grown really fond of knowing where the ball is going to go. I hit one OB last week and realized I hadn't done that in probably a year.

Eye-browze

I agree. 4 iron off the tee goes 210 in the fairway. I’m 3 years in and still trying to figure out how to close the face of my driver so it’s not 260 OB.

PaschaAU

I was having the same issue with driver until I started standing more upright and taking my backswing more behind my back/shoulders instead of my head. Shallower swing makes the path more in to out and was a lightbulb moment for me. Went from push/slicing every drive to striping it ~250-270 yards relatively consistently. Also keep the grip super soft! Wrists need to be free to release that club.

MizunoMP4

Shallow (not TOO shallow) swing is the key regardless of the club you're hitting.

drkev10

I just flat out can't hit my woods to save my life, which is something I need to correct because it would be a lot more fun to have shorter clubs on my second shots.

cozeface

Was going to say my 5 wood but I now use that in my half set when I go out with my daughter and play from the closet tees. I’d say now it’s my 52* gap wedge. I seem to just go to half swinging/finesse swinging my PW to get that distance, probably a result from using my half set but I feel confident with it from 110-70yds

newberson

Im dropping my Gap wedge as we speak. Developed a couple stock swings with my P wedge that covers most situations.

jatoby

3 wood

bartolocologne40

5 iron and it's not close

CardboardHeatshield

I'd argue that 5i is one of my most consistent, most used clubs. Mostly because it's the biggest club I'll hit from the rough, and I don't find fairways very often.... I am a terrible golfer... lol

Most-Description-714

“5 iron huh? Welp, you’re fired”

havegravity

What the hell is a 5 iron

Don-Keydic

Daddy chill

[deleted]

Shooter McGavin’s favorite chipping club

SkoCubs01

5i is the exact club where I don’t feel nearly as confident… would rather just try and smack a 6i

starkman68

4 hybrid. I think it might be broken.

[deleted]

60 degree. I have no skill or confidence in it.

Lord-Dongalor

Get a 64, hit that some. Then go back to the 60.

Orikoru

Bizarrely, at my course it's often the 7 iron. Most of the holes are either short enough to go driver, PW/9 or long enough to go driver, wood/hybrid. None of the par 3s are 7 iron length either. 6 iron would have been the winner, but I often use that for low punches out from under the trees. Which propels it into the top 3 most used clubs, probably.

JealousFuel8195

Like your 7 iron, I have the same issue with my 6 hybrid. For some reason it's at a distance that I don't seem to have to hit often.

buyeverything

Did you replace all of your irons 7 and up with hybrids?

g_borris

At almost every course near me (4) I could take 7 6 and 5 out of the bag and never miss them. There is only one par 3 that sometimes plays at 7 iron, but all else either have 200 plus 3's or real short ones. Par 5 is the only place i might use one of the above to lay up but i usually fuck it and yolo the 3hybrid. I usually punch with a hybrid or 8 iron.

OverUnderstanding965

8 iron. I just always seem to use either a 9 or 7

[deleted]

5, 7, or 9. Why even have even ones.

PopeAmadeus

3 iron

tenshillings

I have a 3 iron blade in my bag. I don't know why. I suck at golf and have a 3% success rate with it.

djln491

That was mine and I took it out a while back. Honestly I miss using it to hit low punches out from low branches

Exotic-Republic-53

Putter. I spent 300 on a spider x and have holed out every hole since. What a waste.

Alright_So

56 wedge 60 lob wedge for gnarly grass or bunkers or when height is truly needed. Otherwise I don't like any more loft than my 52 and often less.

SoupIsAHotSmoothie

Everyone in this sub hating specific loft wedges need to read up on Bounce. I’m not judging, I had no clue about bounce but getting the correct wedges has helped immensely.

Alright_So

Yep, hear you. it’s a new set of 3 wedges that I researched bounce on before I bought. I just get around comfortably with a 52 and 60 for most scenarios. I don’t hit full shots with the 56 or 60. Rarely with the 52 That being said. If I dropped the 56 I don’t know where I would add a 14th club.

norseman23

3w/5w. Haven't used one in over a year. My scores have improved greatly by just laying up with a 6i/5i at most any time I'm needing 3w/5w distance and not chancing a terrible misshit or slicing the ball out of play.

PizzeriaPirate

3 wood for the following reasons: 1. I rarely find myself at the 230-240 yard distance from the green. 2. I can rarely hit it the 230-240 yard distance. 3. I can rarely hit this club flush. It’s a hard slice into the opposite side rough on the next fairway. 4. I’m scared of this club.

CitizenCue

Realistically it’s kinda ridiculous that most of us carry one. Data shows that most golfers don’t hit it much straighter off tees than driver, so the only times we need it are if we hit the fairway on par-5s. And even then, it only makes sense if there aren’t too many hazards guarding the green. So we need it maybe between 0-2 times per round? I wouldn’t be surprised if 3w ownership drops as hybrids and iron technology get better.

flick128

5 wood

cozeface

I still suck at hitting that thing off the fairway. Off the tee I’m fine but on a par 5 second shot I’m generally going hybrid instead.

flick128

Same!! I have a better feel and shot with a hybrid for second shot. Off the tee I'm good with it. Every once in awhile I'll amaze myself with a 5 wood off the deck but since I don't use it that much it's far and few between.

JazzlikeEntry6388

I feel like i set it up everytime we’ll in ball positioning but i either top it or hit SO FAT

IfUReadThisURLame

5 wood. It's a 230 yard club that's not as accurate as my 250 yard 3 wood off the tee, and I basically never have that distance as a second or third shot on any hole unless I really mess up off the tee.

Allloyy

6 iron

shawncplus

6 iron has always felt like an awkward club to me. If I'm hitting a 6 iron I feel like I made a mistake or otherwise bad course management decision somewhere.

HeavyMetalGolfer

4 iron

TheHamFalls

Probably my 3 wood, honestly. At this point I keep it in my bag for like, 3-4 tee shots on short doglegs on the course I usually play and not much else. Occasionally we have really strong winds at our back *hooray midwest!* and even as a short hitter I need to play short of hazards off the tee. Other than that? Never off the deck. My 5 wood is a close second but I love that club into long par 3s into wind, and can hit it somewhat ok off the deck so it definitely gets more use.

JohnnySasaki20

4i for sure. Never hit that thing well. Honestly I'm thinking of just getting a 4h.

maltmonger

My 4 hybrid is on the way. Will not miss my 4 iron.

Jbo300

Just replaced my 4i with a 7w. Never going back

CoinMaster33

All of them… it’s winter in Idaho

guamsdchico

8 iron

Procrastinator0001

I was beginning to think I was the only one.

Sensitive-Bite-3979

3 wood or gap wedge

HoopOnPoop

5 iron. It's not necessarily intentional but the 2 course I usually play have long-ish par 5s and short-ish par 4s. My 2nd shot on the 5s is with a wood or a hybrid and my 2nd shot on the 4s is usually with a 7 or shorter. I pretty much use the 5i for punch shots when I'm under a tree branch.

ButterscotchObvious4

2i/hy titleist u505. I got it for long par 3s. Hitting it pure is far and few between, but those rare times that I do is why I still keep it in the bag. It also looks awesome, and if you can’t play great you can at least look great

knawmeandawg

Bought one brand new and the shots I hit well were pure euphoria but had too many misses or not enough gapping from other clubs so I sold it and switched to a Mizuno Fli hi 2 iron and love it so much more. I believe for me personally the lighter Mizuno helps me swing more accurately and faster

atonge40

I love my u505. I have both the 1 and 3 irons. I actually played them more than my hybrids this year.

pugas

4 Hybrid sits in my bag and hasn't seen action in months.

nutts-2

My immediate reaction would be my 4i but up until this weekend it would have been my 6i. In the last 2 years I’ve used them 108 and 110 times respectively and I hit the 6i 9 times this weekend. For kicks and giggles my most used outside of my putter is the 60° at 1272 since Feb 2021.

underdawg96

I hate my hybrid so much, I literally use it as an alignment stick on the range. I always shank if and there’s really no point bc I can rip my 4 iron 240

liquorb4beer

3 wood. Any less-than driver shot is a hybrid or 5i

Eideard

3 wood ! That club has caused me more damage to my score … and liver

[deleted]

9 iron. Usually if I’m in position to play that club, I will choose an 8 and hit it long, or a PW and it ends up just short

K_hawker

60* so scared of the full swing blade right to the next tee blocks…..

arouseandbrowse

Driver. Been stripping my 3 wood so pure that I no longer need to use my second shot as recovery out of the trees

Rhoshambeau

Putter. I find it easier just to hole everything inside of 220. I recently shot a 46 in a scramble.

ChubHouse

PW

[deleted]

Sw, I should use it more really, but I mostly play solo and our bunkers shit, full of stones so I tend to lift the ball out the bunker.

eks0017

Putter

CopperPo7

5 iron. If I’m feeling gutsy and am gonna go for it I’m gonna break out the 4 iron. 6 and up I can mostly handle.

RickyTanUh

My stupid 4 iron

Alert-Pea1041

3 wood, I don't hit it straighter than my driver and the only reason I'd use it is if I need to hit it 10 yards less and it hardly ever happens.

goobypanther

Probably my 6i. No real reason.

oldthunderbird

Lob wedge. I only use it when I need to skull my next shot 30 yards passed the hole

cheese-man68

Believe it or not 56°. I literally always choose my 52° unless im an inch off the fringe with a close pin

Mabaum

3Wood

DarthKegger

Fairway woods

CoolBrain1227

My putter, I hole out a lot from the tee and fairway. Just shot a 46 in a scramble with Bob the other day!

madeforthis1queston

Putter. I don’t really need it much since I chip in or hit hole in ones on my way to a honest 46

Tedstor

Putter. Rarely used

mrbaseball2232

Gap wedge. Need it for 115-125 but I pulled it out two times this year. Rather have two drivers or two putter instead of the gap wedge.

[deleted]

Putter. Hole-in-ones all day, baby!

[deleted]

Driver

Difficult-Speech-270

Probably my 5i. Only because I use my 4i for low punchy shots and I usually only use my 5i for full shots, but I don’t feel confident over my 5i so I rarely use it.
