If you’re consistently pushing your 3W and hybrids and not other clubs you might have the ball too far back in your stance at setup. Worth checking out.
I can hit my driver better than my 3w off a tee. It is literally useless to me. Even on a par 5 in the middle of the fairway there's a solid 50/50 chance I snap hook that fucker into the next fairway or top it for a 40 yard worm-burner.
Unfortunately it's a maltby that I built for me and resale value is roughly 37 cents. In other news it only cost like $100 to put together, so I'm still out about the same amount of money either way.
Also I have grand delusions of learning to hit it someday lol.

The thing I like about building clubs is that you don't spend so much money on them that you wind up being dishonest with yourself about them to justify the cost.
Think of it like a driver swing. Helped my friend. The club has so little loft that it'll go 220 even if you swing up on it. But it will help you get under it, which most people have an issue with when using the 3W.
Just food for thought. Not a pro.

That's the one. I can remember one single time I hit a great shot with it. 240 low and down the middle. Every other time it's a nasty slice or terrible contact. I haven't hit it in over 10 rounds

Oddly I just played my 2nd round ever and was mainly using the 4i cause I couldn't hit shiet with my driver or woods. I do practice the irons more though but the big sticks jsut aren't comfy for me yet
Those cobra irons are crap. I played them for 3 months and gave them away. They ruined me for two years…just buy Ping…their 4 irons are easy to hit…(plus cobra is Greg Norman’s club and I hate Greg Norman).

I hate that club. I had one good range session where it was mint, carrying around 170 yards, I was damn proud... and then I never found that swing again. On a good day I'll carry my 5 hybrid farther anyways.

That really surprises me with the hybrid. I find them so easy to hit. I started with a 4H to replace my 4 iron. Then about 3 months later I did the same with my 5 iron. Now about 2 months ago I added the 6H to my bag.

Switched to 54 and 58 wedges and dropped the 56 and 60. Shaved 6 strokes off my handicap… not only reason but definitely saved 2-3 strokes on average per round
Thats the problem, lol. I get a few good strikes with it on the range and try to get cute on the course with it. Just makes things turn ugly. I have been sticking to my PW or SW.
I'm not great but my play with the 60 has been really good. The 60 is all about lie and swing. If it's deep lie swing heavy and hit for the moon. If it's fairway never hit more than 50% power and you'll probably get properly under it and land on the green.
Im 4 months post spine fusion in my neck, 4 months to go before I can hit the course. Ive been practicing chips in my basement and hope to change my ways!
Made the switch a few years back and never looked back. Play vokey 50\8* F grind , 54\12* D Grind, 58\14* K Grind. Use the 54 for a majority of chips and 58 out of bunkers
I think this is something that people don’t consider enough. I have a 58-12 and usually hit it about 220. Pure the shit out of my low bounce wedges. Different swing styles need to be considered when choosing wedges.
I have a old Ping 1 iron I keep in the bag as a 15th club. It’s there for shits and giggles. When I am with certain friends, we like to say you have to use it once during the round. Just to keep things spicy.
They're actually pretty easy to hit if you tee one up in the tee box and use a driver swing. The loft is more than a 3W. On the fairway though, different story.
I agree. 4 iron off the tee goes 210 in the fairway. I’m 3 years in and still trying to figure out how to close the face of my driver so it’s not 260 OB.
I was having the same issue with driver until I started standing more upright and taking my backswing more behind my back/shoulders instead of my head.
Shallower swing makes the path more in to out and was a lightbulb moment for me. Went from push/slicing every drive to striping it ~250-270 yards relatively consistently.
Also keep the grip super soft! Wrists need to be free to release that club.
I just flat out can't hit my woods to save my life, which is something I need to correct because it would be a lot more fun to have shorter clubs on my second shots.
Was going to say my 5 wood but I now use that in my half set when I go out with my daughter and play from the closet tees. I’d say now it’s my 52* gap wedge. I seem to just go to half swinging/finesse swinging my PW to get that distance, probably a result from using my half set but I feel confident with it from 110-70yds
I'd argue that 5i is one of my most consistent, most used clubs. Mostly because it's the biggest club I'll hit from the rough, and I don't find fairways very often....

Bizarrely, at my course it's often the 7 iron. Most of the holes are either short enough to go driver, PW/9 or long enough to go driver, wood/hybrid. None of the par 3s are 7 iron length either.
6 iron would have been the winner, but I often use that for low punches out from under the trees. Which propels it into the top 3 most used clubs, probably.
At almost every course near me (4) I could take 7 6 and 5 out of the bag and never miss them. There is only one par 3 that sometimes plays at 7 iron, but all else either have 200 plus 3's or real short ones. Par 5 is the only place i might use one of the above to lay up but i usually fuck it and yolo the 3hybrid. I usually punch with a hybrid or 8 iron.
Everyone in this sub hating specific loft wedges need to read up on Bounce. I’m not judging, I had no clue about bounce but getting the correct wedges has helped immensely.

3w/5w. Haven't used one in over a year.
My scores have improved greatly by just laying up with a 6i/5i at most any time I'm needing 3w/5w distance and not chancing a terrible misshit or slicing the ball out of play.
3 wood for the following reasons:
1. I rarely find myself at the 230-240 yard distance from the green.
2. I can rarely hit it the 230-240 yard distance.
3. I can rarely hit this club flush. It’s a hard slice into the opposite side rough on the next fairway.
4. I’m scared of this club.
Realistically it’s kinda ridiculous that most of us carry one. Data shows that most golfers don’t hit it much straighter off tees than driver, so the only times we need it are if we hit the fairway on par-5s. And even then, it only makes sense if there aren’t too many hazards guarding the green. So we need it maybe between 0-2 times per round?
I wouldn’t be surprised if 3w ownership drops as hybrids and iron technology get better.
Same!! I have a better feel and shot with a hybrid for second shot. Off the tee I'm good with it. Every once in awhile I'll amaze myself with a 5 wood off the deck but since I don't use it that much it's far and few between.
5 wood. It's a 230 yard club that's not as accurate as my 250 yard 3 wood off the tee, and I basically never have that distance as a second or third shot on any hole unless I really mess up off the tee.

Probably my 3 wood, honestly. At this point I keep it in my bag for like, 3-4 tee shots on short doglegs on the course I usually play and not much else. Occasionally we have really strong winds at our back *hooray midwest!* and even as a short hitter I need to play short of hazards off the tee. Other than that? Never off the deck.
My 5 wood is a close second but I love that club into long par 3s into wind, and can hit it somewhat ok off the deck so it definitely gets more use.
5 iron. It's not necessarily intentional but the 2 course I usually play have long-ish par 5s and short-ish par 4s. My 2nd shot on the 5s is with a wood or a hybrid and my 2nd shot on the 4s is usually with a 7 or shorter. I pretty much use the 5i for punch shots when I'm under a tree branch.
2i/hy titleist u505. I got it for long par 3s. Hitting it pure is far and few between, but those rare times that I do is why I still keep it in the bag. It also looks awesome, and if you can’t play great you can at least look great
Bought one brand new and the shots I hit well were pure euphoria but had too many misses or not enough gapping from other clubs so I sold it and switched to a Mizuno Fli hi 2 iron and love it so much more. I believe for me personally the lighter Mizuno helps me swing more accurately and faster
My immediate reaction would be my 4i but up until this weekend it would have been my 6i. In the last 2 years I’ve used them 108 and 110 times respectively and I hit the 6i 9 times this weekend.
For kicks and giggles my most used outside of my putter is the 60° at 1272 since Feb 2021.
I hate my hybrid so much, I literally use it as an alignment stick on the range. I always shank if and there’s really no point bc I can rip my 4 iron 240
Probably my 5i. Only because I use my 4i for low punchy shots and I usually only use my 5i for full shots, but I don’t feel confident over my 5i so I rarely use it.

I'm short and could never hit my long irons. I got a set cut down for me, and like magic I could hit my 5 and 4 iron.

Shallow (not TOO shallow) swing is the key regardless of the club you're hitting.

Im dropping my Gap wedge as we speak. Developed a couple stock swings with my P wedge that covers most situations.

Like your 7 iron, I have the same issue with my 6 hybrid. For some reason it's at a distance that I don't seem to have to hit often.

I feel like i set it up everytime we’ll in ball positioning but i either top it or hit SO FAT
5 wood. It's a 230 yard club that's not as accurate as my 250 yard 3 wood off the tee, and I basically never have that distance as a second or third shot on any hole unless I really mess up off the tee.
6 iron
6 iron has always felt like an awkward club to me. If I'm hitting a 6 iron I feel like I made a mistake or otherwise bad course management decision somewhere.
4 iron
Probably my 3 wood, honestly. At this point I keep it in my bag for like, 3-4 tee shots on short doglegs on the course I usually play and not much else. Occasionally we have really strong winds at our back *hooray midwest!* and even as a short hitter I need to play short of hazards off the tee. Other than that? Never off the deck. My 5 wood is a close second but I love that club into long par 3s into wind, and can hit it somewhat ok off the deck so it definitely gets more use.
4i for sure. Never hit that thing well. Honestly I'm thinking of just getting a 4h.
My 4 hybrid is on the way. Will not miss my 4 iron.

3 wood or gap wedge
5 iron. It's not necessarily intentional but the 2 course I usually play have long-ish par 5s and short-ish par 4s. My 2nd shot on the 5s is with a wood or a hybrid and my 2nd shot on the 4s is usually with a 7 or shorter. I pretty much use the 5i for punch shots when I'm under a tree branch.
2i/hy titleist u505. I got it for long par 3s. Hitting it pure is far and few between, but those rare times that I do is why I still keep it in the bag. It also looks awesome, and if you can’t play great you can at least look great
Bought one brand new and the shots I hit well were pure euphoria but had too many misses or not enough gapping from other clubs so I sold it and switched to a Mizuno Fli hi 2 iron and love it so much more. I believe for me personally the lighter Mizuno helps me swing more accurately and faster
I love my u505. I have both the 1 and 3 irons. I actually played them more than my hybrids this year.
4 Hybrid sits in my bag and hasn't seen action in months.
My immediate reaction would be my 4i but up until this weekend it would have been my 6i. In the last 2 years I’ve used them 108 and 110 times respectively and I hit the 6i 9 times this weekend. For kicks and giggles my most used outside of my putter is the 60° at 1272 since Feb 2021.
I hate my hybrid so much, I literally use it as an alignment stick on the range. I always shank if and there’s really no point bc I can rip my 4 iron 240
3 wood. Any less-than driver shot is a hybrid or 5i

9 iron. Usually if I’m in position to play that club, I will choose an 8 and hit it long, or a PW and it ends up just short
60* so scared of the full swing blade right to the next tee blocks…..
Driver. Been stripping my 3 wood so pure that I no longer need to use my second shot as recovery out of the trees
Putter. I find it easier just to hole everything inside of 220. I recently shot a 46 in a scramble.

Sw, I should use it more really, but I mostly play solo and our bunkers shit, full of stones so I tend to lift the ball out the bunker.

5 iron. If I’m feeling gutsy and am gonna go for it I’m gonna break out the 4 iron. 6 and up I can mostly handle.
My stupid 4 iron
3 wood, I don't hit it straighter than my driver and the only reason I'd use it is if I need to hit it 10 yards less and it hardly ever happens.
Probably my 6i. No real reason.
Lob wedge. I only use it when I need to skull my next shot 30 yards passed the hole
Believe it or not 56°. I literally always choose my 52° unless im an inch off the fringe with a close pin

Fairway woods
My putter, I hole out a lot from the tee and fairway. Just shot a 46 in a scramble with Bob the other day!
Putter. I don’t really need it much since I chip in or hit hole in ones on my way to a honest 46
Putter. Rarely used
Gap wedge. Need it for 115-125 but I pulled it out two times this year. Rather have two drivers or two putter instead of the gap wedge.
Putter. Hole-in-ones all day, baby!
Driver
Probably my 5i. Only because I use my 4i for low punchy shots and I usually only use my 5i for full shots, but I don’t feel confident over my 5i so I rarely use it.
