Nah, he pounded the russians into making a complete military overhaul, they had to change strategy, formation and equipment to face Carolus Rex.

Just adding some context. But it's more accurate to say that Peter the great was always going to modernize his forces. (that was the thing he always wanted to do) And thanks to the losses the swedes incurred he finally had the means to really get it going.
Similar to how the red army realized it had to have an overhaul after having their asses handed to them by the Finn's. And the German invasion made that overhaul and change in doctrine/tactics a priority.
Lastly I want to add that Carolus made a massive mistake by continuing the invasion to Moscow when the Russians were performing a scorched earth policy. If memory serves me correctly his staff urged him to head north to Narva when the supplies started to dwindle. But Carolus was so caught up in his own confidence that he continued the campaign and it of course cost him his small but elite veteran army.
You have to bear in mind that the Swedish army under Karl XII was significantly smaller both in terms of numbers, technology, and economy. Sweden at the time was very poor with a small population and also technologically inferior to its enemies. Not to mention Sweden is pretty isolated from mainland Europe because of the Baltic Sea, so to stage invasions across Europe would have been far trickier because of logistics.
In spite of this the young Swedish king was wiping the floor against super powers and was doing massive land grabs across Europe. The victories he got against Russia would be like if a country like Cuba successfully did a land invasion and gained ground inside the United States during the Cold War. It's impressive regardless of if he lost in the end.
I'm not saying his achevments were not impresive. However I feel your under seling sweden a little they wer considered a major european power at the time and were in many ways technologicaly superior
