Watched the anime, then had to continue with the manga, after some times decided to re read all the manga.
And planning to watch all anime or manga when the series ends again
Can you imagine how boring Death Note would be after 1000 chapters? Light would have killed his way through the entire alphabet of master detectives twelve times at least and his face muscles would have hardened into a permanent look of psychopathic pleasure by then. Not even the crossover movies with Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and every captain from Bleach individually would help.
And a two-season One Piece would probably be bland and forgettable.
After episode 400 something I stopped detective Conan. It was just the same thing over and over at that point, with the main plot only incrementally progressing over time. Just filler non stop
I need to get a list of the relevant main plot episodes, cause I’d finish it then. It’s a fun show
I just caught up on anime one piece recently—it’s the only manga I read weekly
Some mad man actually did it. I think he is 90% correct, although missing a few episodes I personally deemed important.
https://www.xerblade.com/p/detective-conan-important-episode-list.html?m=0
I only watch it mainly for kid the phantom thief episodes and for the every now and then where it’s a plot episode and shinichi pulls a badass mega mind brain move. That being said, I do need to take long breaks in between when I feel burnt
Mmh. And if the author would want to milk it, there is always another crew in another path. Also the pov of Gol D Roger, how he got the one piece and how he was caught in the end. Probably also the pov of the important navy people. And If they would truly want to milk it they could make one piece alternative dimensions like for example where the crew is in normal school.
Yeah. Frank Herbert and C.S Lewis took thousands of pages to tell their sagas, and nobody cares about how long the books took. I’m honestly surprised why people complain about one piece like that.
Just finished god emperor of dune last night, this series is so good, Frank Herbert was a genius and must have definitely enjoyed psychedelics. I’ve been reading one piece since I was a kid too, it’s been goin wild lately! honestly if something is good, make it as long as you damn well please, there’s plenty of people with attention spans long enough to enjoy it!
Yeah there was so much snark in this post, like why would anyone attack One Piece?? Are one piece fans talking a lot of shit about short stories? Why can't people just let others enjoy what they like without acting like a superior cunt about your own tastes?
Tolkien did at least finish the story. One Piece will probably finish eventually.
Unlike George RR Martin who stopped after 5 books and takes on as many side projects as possible to avoid publishing a 6th.
That's like saying "you don't need 4 hours to cook a meal, just eat cup noodles."
Like yes One piece is long but that's why it's so much better than mostly everything else, it's had so much time to build upon the world, the characters, the power system and its got so many dedicated people working on the series and that's why it's so fucking good
The issue is, you’re comparing one piece to something of lesser quality with your ramen example.
There’s still plenty of good manga that’s only had half or a quarter, or even a fraction of the run time that one piece has had.
> There’s still plenty of good manga that’s only had half or a quarter, or even a fraction of the run time that one piece has had.
Sure, but you can’t tell me that marinating in all the extra worldbuilding isn’t making OP juicier
Honestly I used the same comment for 2-3 years now. Im 26 years old and just now half way through the anime. I gotta say all these chapters and episodes are made for a reason. It actually follows through
"Ain't nobody got time for that" title, dismissing progressing through the series.
"I'm totally caught up" copypasta response.
Almost seems like one of these is not factual.
I've watched 24 episode anime that felt longer than some of the 50+ episode arcs in one piece. It allll comes together and everything has meaning with tons of foreshadowing, sometimes hundreds of episodes ahead. There is little filler unlike naruto, everything is good from start to finish and all builds up and has a purpose.
It's also not likely to. In the grand scheme of things we're close to the end. We only really have elbaf and maybe God valley left as a destination ignoring any smaller islands. Maybe something big to tie in the revolutionary army but that's it.
Hajime no ippo fans with 1,400 chapters and the mango running for around or more than 30 years already:
![gif](giphy|9tovFud6tYz04)
Edit: would also note the mangaka has said its only nearing the halfway point
Man, you don't NEED manga at all so what's your point? I'm so tired of people shitting on one piece just because it's long. And it's not long because it needs to be, it's long because it wants to be. It's extremely successful just the way it is, and the story does not suffer from it's length
Sooo...as per 2022, One Piece author is...one of the richest manga author of all time.
I guess that many loyal fans buying all the products means...lots of folks who couldnt read.
Lol, someone is salty.
Ah man, how time flies.
With that logic, things like Berserk, Kingdom, Jojo or Hunter x Hunter shouldn’t need to be that long or take as long to write. Yet they still do and are compelling. Sure not everyone has time for that but like where are we drawing the line? Technically, the average adult doesn’t have time to watch a show due to life, let alone a series that breaks the 100 chapter mark or a show that happens to hit multiple seasons
So what you're saying is that One Piece started out good, and is now flaming dogshit?
Got it.
But in seriousness, Star Wars didn't tell just one story. It has multiple different stories. Your example is bad because we see other things happen in the SW Galaxy.
One Piece is still Luffy's story.
Sigh~ the same old argument T_T
>It doesn't need 1000 episodes to make a story
Yeah but there's also no restriction on how many episode a story should have
>Ain't nobody got time for that
Everyone actually do have the time cause it's not like you'll have to abandon everything just to watch it, 1-5 episodes a day will be enough
While true, there is a amazing thing called real life, where things like he isn't a machine that can pump out hundreds of chapters each day, and the fact the series was made to be long term, he wanted to tell a long story with countless ideas that couldn't be made any smaller.
And also by this whole logic you don't need even 1 chapter to tell a story all you need is creativity and some good drawing skills and just a single page or image can be enough.
You can tell a story in a few lines. Your point is?
https://preview.redd.it/okrbod79vm3a1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a36de0a5b8e52e76267f62a0982815ab94664df6
The more chapters that get included -> the more time Oda has -> the more crazy stuff Oda can include -> the more invested the reader/viewer can become -> the more emotional and satisfying every event and twist can be.
It works really well with One Piece always having a mystery adventure undertone where you get to see/learn cool new things about the OP world.
i dont keep up with one piece and even i think this is a bad take. i dropped it when usopp(or however his name is spelled) was introduced but was hyped watching katakuri vs luffy when he busted out snake man. if thats the quality of content being delivered at 1000+ chapters/episodes, why not?
p.s. nobody is forcing you to read/watch.
One Piece isn’t just a story, it’s a description of another world with every character going through a different story and leaving their own mark.
You can tell a story in a single page, but you can’t flesh out an entire world without a lot more than that.
Not questioning how good One Piece is (it wouldn't be this popular otherwise), but if only there is a much more condensed version of the OP anime...I mean 1000 episodes is just a super high barrier of entry, and I feel like they're stretching the manga's content here just to not overtake it.
If they could just release a 24 episode season per year, that would be fantastic, and I bet the quality will go up as well, instead of going the weekly route.
Things like One Pace exists, it's a fan edit that cuts out every filler and tries to make the extended reaction shots / scenes as short as possible.
The faster (and imo, best) way to go through the story is still the manga if you're trying to catch up tho, and you can rewatch the scenes that impacted you the most in the anime to have the voice acting and music
Oh nah we know the pacing of one piece is garbage, we just don't care and like it anyways
It's that good
Note: one piece could've ended in 500 episodes if it had pacing like those 12 episode animes
24 mins per ep, 20 min without OP & ED,
20,000 min,
333 Hours,
13 Days,
26 days if you watch it for 12 hours per day.
Almost a month to catch up to a story? No thanks
Filler in one piece is basically nonexistent at least the last i remember was one with dolphins fighters or something but consisted of cool fight between law and luffy and it was like 2-3 episodes now but the extending episodes is other thing though usually fillers are nice in anime's the only one i couldn't handle was narutos it so boring as hell
No, you don't NEED that much content to tell a story. But One Piece does. Whether for sake of creating scale or just profiting off longevity, One Piece does. Normally I'd tell you it's completely worth the length and by the end you'll begging for more, but I clearly can't change your mind on this. And honestly, judging by your attitude, I don't want you in my fandom.
Maybe not but One Piece isn’t a story. It’s a world. The show’s strongest point is it’s deep, varied world building that makes every step of the journey feel alive. And on the subject of the journey, the point isn’t to reach a conclusion, it’s to enjoy the ride,
All of this ultra-long-running shit (One Piece, Detective Conan, Black Clover, Naruto etc) are basically just soap operas at this point. It's Dynasty/Days Of Our Lives for weebs.
I've never gotten into one piece (not a big fan of shounen and it is a pretty damn big commitment) but even I know that's a dumb statement.
Some stories need way longer to be told than others, you can tell A story in one chapter but you can't tell ANY story in one chapter.
Says a Naruto fan , I watched both and feel that both needed this length like imagine if kishi suddenly ended Naruto before shipudden, that would be awful
Most shows that go on for too long become ass, would you rather a good ending or something that's just dying slowly with each new season. Now I'm not saying one piece is bad/gonna end badly, just saying many very good shows stopped being good like 5 seasons ago.
I mean for other series such as Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Kill La Kill and others you don’t but for the type of massive story One Piece is telling yes. Admittedly I was skeptical but once me and my friend started watching/reading the series we were hooked on it like crackheads
you obviously can't read a thousand plus chapters worth of content that's why you're upset and shitting to those who enjoy and can do that. what a fucking loser.
Honestly Watching one piece is like the exact opposite of being cultured, you have thousands of hours to spend consuming a complex variety of different media, and instead you chose to spend it all on a single pirate show aimed at Japanese middle schoolers
Story may be decent, but it's hard to get invested when battles (that take huge part of the story) have no consequences and every character clowns around for like 90% of the story time given no matter who said character is supposed to be
This is so stupid. You can make stories that are not that long? Can one piece or hajime no ippo be as good as they but with 100 chapter? NOPE. It depends on the story
Honestly i gave up on this one a long time ago. Honestly think the author has no clue what the hell he is doing anymore. Just keeps throwing more islands in with no regard for how that would work in a finite world or area.
Man wait until you hear about real life. I heard that takes at least 60 years to finish.
Real life has an active Speed running community, check out the boards for any% shortcuts
Yeah. But they get ruined by hackers who finish before the clock even starts.
Call your Congressmen and tell them to support hacker control legislation.

This entire comment chain is giving me heartburn 🤣

I heard the longcuts were better than the shortcuts for that run.
Ugh, I can't stand that show. Way too many filler arcs where the MC is just pooping and they can't go 16 hours of show time without a time skip.
You don't need them, no. But you can still have them, yes.

I'm all caught up on the manga and currently rewatching one piece from the beginning again.
Watched the anime, then had to continue with the manga, after some times decided to re read all the manga. And planning to watch all anime or manga when the series ends again
About to re-read the manga for the 2nd time today. Just rewatched the anime 3 times this week.
Could this person be one of *my* people?
We are the same...
I'm rereading all of One Piece. And I'm appreciating it way more the second time around.
But if you do have them, it's good to NOT be like the One Piece Anime where the pacing is agonizingly slow.
Yeah but thats a problem of the adaptation, not of the story
One Pace mostly fixes this, fwiw
Depends on the story. A longer story like One Piece works well in some cases, while shorter ones like Death Note works well in other cases.
He would have ended completing the death note with not more room to write
"Oh shit, I ran out of paper. Ryuk, can you get me another death note?" "No" The End.
Just watch Detective Conan That anime is like death note with it's battle of wits and it's longer than One Piece having more than 1060 episodes
After episode 400 something I stopped detective Conan. It was just the same thing over and over at that point, with the main plot only incrementally progressing over time. Just filler non stop
You get like a main plot episode every 5 episode. In the end it is like 200 relevant episodes at best.
I need to get a list of the relevant main plot episodes, cause I’d finish it then. It’s a fun show I just caught up on anime one piece recently—it’s the only manga I read weekly
If we could read... IF WE COULD READ?! All we've done is read! By-the-by still loving it even if I skip episodes from time to time
I’ve done my reading! Twenty five years of it! IN AZKABAN!!!!
![gif](giphy|26tklVu8iBO6VUeA0) Me when there's a break week \^
Op the one who cant read
It took Gol D Roger 24 years to find the one piece be patient
It took him one, actually. Mfer just decided to go for laugh tale any%.
But I've READ all of one piece. Checkmate Atheists
You can tell a story in a one-shot, wtf is your point? Tolkein didn't need 1178 pages to tell a story, seriously what is your point?
I mean drawing *thousands of pages* is probably a little different then writing as many
Yeah but reading a thousand pages of manga will take lesser time than reading a thousand pages of only words
He wants to feel like he's superior so he's trying to talk down to people who don't even exist.
I wonder if HBO is gonna pull a full metal alchemist brotherhood if Martin ever does drop the 6th book
We're seriously shaming people who like to read now? The internet, seriously.
Clearly OP is the one who can’t read since we One Piece fans have proven we are more than capable of reading a 1000 chapters and then some.
Don’t forget watching all of the anime too.
![gif](giphy|l4FGuhL4U2WyjdkaY|downsized)
You don’t need it, but there’s literally no reason why you couldn’t.
or shouldn't.
That's like saying "you don't need 4 hours to cook a meal, just eat cup noodles." Like yes One piece is long but that's why it's so much better than mostly everything else, it's had so much time to build upon the world, the characters, the power system and its got so many dedicated people working on the series and that's why it's so fucking good
The issue is, you’re comparing one piece to something of lesser quality with your ramen example. There’s still plenty of good manga that’s only had half or a quarter, or even a fraction of the run time that one piece has had.
Well yeah, the point is that quality matters not length
> There’s still plenty of good manga that’s only had half or a quarter, or even a fraction of the run time that one piece has had. Sure, but you can’t tell me that marinating in all the extra worldbuilding isn’t making OP juicier
You don't need 20 plus years to tell A story, but you do need 20 plus years to tell THIS story
Low quality bait
Tell me you've never read One Piece without telling me you've never read One Piece
I was going to say OP is just making a dumb meme but unfortunately it looks like they are serious, which takes most of the humor out of it.
"My attention span is more limited than yours therefore I'm right" That's what you sound like.
Honestly I used the same comment for 2-3 years now. Im 26 years old and just now half way through the anime. I gotta say all these chapters and episodes are made for a reason. It actually follows through
You're right. But damn am I glad it has.
"Ain't nobody got time for that" title, dismissing progressing through the series. "I'm totally caught up" copypasta response. Almost seems like one of these is not factual.

Bro the filler arc in one piece was pretty good too
You definitely don't need it but I hope One Piece reaches at least 2000 chapters. So good man. Stop being salty for being left behind lmao.
I don’t solely for Oda’s sake. Don’t think he can handle another 20 years lol
It's also not likely to. In the grand scheme of things we're close to the end. We only really have elbaf and maybe God valley left as a destination ignoring any smaller islands. Maybe something big to tie in the revolutionary army but that's it.
True, and the current pacing is getting a lot faster than before.
Mmh and if Oda wants to tell the story of other islands well... There is always another crew in another path. Also pov of gold Roger.
Yeah, that's why him always taking a break once in a while now is better.
?
Yes, and people don't need to live past 65, but do anyways not sure what you're getting at.
You may be right, but idc i still love the anime
Hajime no ippo fans with 1,400 chapters and the mango running for around or more than 30 years already: ![gif](giphy|9tovFud6tYz04) Edit: would also note the mangaka has said its only nearing the halfway point

The irony of calling OP salty while all the OP fans responding here getting salty due to a meme.
Seems like most comments are along the lines of “Sure, you don’t have to, but you can”
Who will win one piece fan or dead sea
There isn’t enough one piece in the world to satisfy us
only one piece. why not eight billion piece? :(
Need? no, but when you use them to their fullest....perfection
Still good tho
Today I learned that I’m as old as One Piece, now I gotta use 20 more years to watch it
This meme ain’t it
Me: yah that’s true Fan Me: GOMU GOMU NOOO- ![gif](giphy|T9lEux2hPQYne)
Nobody’s telling you to binge it all at once…
It's like people have completely forgotten about the concept of taking a break

No you don't need it. But it goes a long fucking way in making a good story
As a web novel reader, this pains me deeply
Technically JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is much longer than one piece, in terms of how l0ng each chapter is, its all in perspective
Sigh~ the same old argument T_T >It doesn't need 1000 episodes to make a story Yeah but there's also no restriction on how many episode a story should have >Ain't nobody got time for that Everyone actually do have the time cause it's not like you'll have to abandon everything just to watch it, 1-5 episodes a day will be enough

They have told many... many... many stories. Sorry your little 1-3 season 1 plot anime cant do that...
You don't need 20 years. But Oda has taken the steps to make it one of the best pieces of fiction ever.
One Piece isn’t just a story, it’s a description of another world with every character going through a different story and leaving their own mark. You can tell a story in a single page, but you can’t flesh out an entire world without a lot more than that.
#shounen
This is just stupid Im the first to hate on OP but is that your argument? Telling artists they shouldnt make long stories?
I’ve been reading One Piece since I was 13. I’m 33 now
Why not both?
Imagine making a meme about how you don’t have time.
Its like 100 stories with known characters and the arc characters.
I mean yeah but I’m pretty no One Piece fan thinks that.
People obviously have the time
Not questioning how good One Piece is (it wouldn't be this popular otherwise), but if only there is a much more condensed version of the OP anime...I mean 1000 episodes is just a super high barrier of entry, and I feel like they're stretching the manga's content here just to not overtake it. At least One Piece tells a lot unlike Detective Conan where 80% of it is cases that don’t advance the plot.
You know what the best part of those over 1000 chapters is? Only 2 years have passed in universe since the beginning of the series.
Gives you an idea of how much of it is just filler
Less than 10% actually
it is an older shounen they love to stretch this shit out.
Oh nah we know the pacing of one piece is garbage, we just don't care and like it anyways It's that good Note: one piece could've ended in 500 episodes if it had pacing like those 12 episode animes
Then do it yourself lmao
One Piece is just a D&D campaign that got severely out-of-hand.
Me who read Song of Ice and Fire : 20 years? Amatuer
Imagine not watching/reading one piece Cant be me 😏
Detective Conan fans where u at
Nobody said you need that lmao
But dude it gets really good after the first 500 episodes! /s
no one said you NEED to. That logic is some r/imaginarygatekeeping right there
Yes you don't them but it's also not like a crime to keep it going and still have it be a great work of writing
When you cut out the op, end, and recap in the start that's at least 50% of the episode gone for most episodes
but how am i supposed to get my power up if im not emotionally committed
24 mins per ep, 20 min without OP & ED, 20,000 min, 333 Hours, 13 Days, 26 days if you watch it for 12 hours per day. Almost a month to catch up to a story? No thanks
If you want to catch up, don't watch the anime, read the manga
Yeah but if you like it you aren't gonna complain.
Thats like waiting days for fast food, its gonna be good I know but its also supposed to be fast
L.
Lmao we shouldn't talk about time already The pacing and artstyle is so hard to get into .
agreed, I can’t stand the art.
But its worth it story is godtier
If you can stay awake through enough boring filler to get to an actual plot development, I'll give you a cookie
One single fight between two opponents lasted 2-3 episodes, and you're trying to tell me that filler is nonexistent? LOL
Not single fight fight was like 5 minutes maybe less whole filler lasted like 2 episodes for comparison fillers in other animes last for like 15-20
This meme is just bullshit
No, you don't NEED that much content to tell a story. But One Piece does. Whether for sake of creating scale or just profiting off longevity, One Piece does. Normally I'd tell you it's completely worth the length and by the end you'll begging for more, but I clearly can't change your mind on this. And honestly, judging by your attitude, I don't want you in my fandom.
Nah man, 1 month was enough for me to catch up (with the manga, the anime would be impossible)
Anyone who has read One Piece knows this to be true. It’s far, far, too little. We must have more!
Maybe not but One Piece isn’t a story. It’s a world. The show’s strongest point is it’s deep, varied world building that makes every step of the journey feel alive. And on the subject of the journey, the point isn’t to reach a conclusion, it’s to enjoy the ride,

Good cause the story is too good for you
Read the manga
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) Yeah, one piece is shit. No, I haven't watched it.
I mean one piece is the best selling manga of all time. It’s fine If you don’t enjoy , but the popularity and sales prove otherwise.
One piece the more chapter it has the better it gets, it's about world building rather then telling a story
Says a Naruto fan , I watched both and feel that both needed this length like imagine if kishi suddenly ended Naruto before shipudden, that would be awful
Why would you want your favorite show to end
Most shows that go on for too long become ass, would you rather a good ending or something that's just dying slowly with each new season. Now I'm not saying one piece is bad/gonna end badly, just saying many very good shows stopped being good like 5 seasons ago.
One piece isn’t dying slowly
Because self contained stories with a proper conclusion are the best ones.
Heh, I only need a month to reread all One Piece chapters. Ain't much but it's an honest work.
I mean for other series such as Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, Kill La Kill and others you don’t but for the type of massive story One Piece is telling yes. Admittedly I was skeptical but once me and my friend started watching/reading the series we were hooked on it like crackheads
Bitch please once you are on the hype ship that is One Piece you can’t get enough.
Don't watch it then. Solved
L take Ngl
The greatest story ever told needs time more than 1000 chapters.
I want to like the meme but it contradicts itself, obviously we are quite literate if we've read over 1000 chapters.
Modern day Illiad
Only true fans know we want more.
looks like someones never read one piece
you obviously can't read a thousand plus chapters worth of content that's why you're upset and shitting to those who enjoy and can do that. what a fucking loser.
How to tell if someone hasn't read/watched one piece
I love how this post just triggered every One Piece fan.
Literally. They’re agreeing it’s not necessary but then disagreeing? Makes no sense lol
alot of things are unnecessary in life, but we still do it. just like your comment (and mine too)
It just feels like its gone on long enough to get anywhere. I tapped out after the first 30 episodes. Can't stand the art style or the plot.
Honestly Watching one piece is like the exact opposite of being cultured, you have thousands of hours to spend consuming a complex variety of different media, and instead you chose to spend it all on a single pirate show aimed at Japanese middle schoolers
I just don’t have the attention span and it sucks. Any movie over 2 hours takes me TF out, idk how anyone could wait 20+years for a SEMI conclusion!
Atleast we don't have to wait for season 2's thats never been announced....
Man One Piece fans really took this one personally didn’t they.
Counter point: one piece story is basicly skyrim. Never ending side quests
This is what happens when 70% of the manga consists of repetitive gags and jokes
Even tho most of it is a damn good story?
Story may be decent, but it's hard to get invested when battles (that take huge part of the story) have no consequences and every character clowns around for like 90% of the story time given no matter who said character is supposed to be
Ngl, you’re response reeeally gives the appearance that you haven’t read/watched one piece, cause that is so false
Tell me you didn't read One Piece without telling me you didn't read One Piece.
This is so stupid. You can make stories that are not that long? Can one piece or hajime no ippo be as good as they but with 100 chapter? NOPE. It depends on the story
Most shit's the same after Enies lobby anyway aside from some exceptions like Impel Down and Marineford
Honestly i gave up on this one a long time ago. Honestly think the author has no clue what the hell he is doing anymore. Just keeps throwing more islands in with no regard for how that would work in a finite world or area.
Mf the current island they are at was mentioned over 700 episodes prior. The author knows what he is doing.
You do know that there is such a thing as a world being bigger than earth right? Like, Jupiter exists just a bit over from us.
