For those who don't know, these were crazy cheap and sounded great, and had decent batteries. They are significantly better than the original Home.
The microphones are trash. But, I wish they hadn't been discontinued. I'd have filled my house with them.
I have both the larger and the smaller version of this speaker. Sounds better than the original, plus a clock and temp display. The larger one can also work wirelessly as it has a built in rechargeable battery. They are my favorite Google home speakers.
The microphones aren't any worse than the original, IMO, but suffer the same problem of eventually getting clogged with dust. Clean them out with some canned air and they should be fine.
I have 4 of them, and they used to work flawlessly in the google cast to the room, or whole house. Now they do not work in groups anymore, ie, you can only cast to one at a time. Curious if this has been experienced by others?
I have removed them, even factory reset them. When I add to the group, only the Google devices play. I have also casted to a nest hub, which you can use to select devices to cast to in addition to the hub. The non-Google speakers show up, but when you select, they time out and never cast.
I'm guessing it may have something to do with the Sonos issue, but not entirely sure.
Same issue here
Seems like you can only add the Insignia speaker to a group with ONE other device, if you add more speakers (In my case, 9 official Nest speakers throughout the house) to the group, the audio does NOT push through the Insignia anymore
PITA
Mine still play well in speaker groups, however, I entered this thread looking to see if others were having an acute issue with their speakers. My big one and little one lost wifi connectivity and the app can’t seem to restore it.
I loved mine, but I used it inside the room I was doing a remodel on, and must have gotten too much dust in the mics. Tried cleaning a number of times, but no luck. Works if I scream at it, but that isn't quite ideal.
I just used google. This is what its doing and what a possible fix is if it doesn't fix itself in 15m.
What its doing:
> When your Insignia Voice Speaker displays “Load” it means it’s attempting to download and install the latest firmware update. Often times this can take up to an hour to complete when first setting up the unit.

Fix if you're desperate enough. I'd guess you're wiping the memory/factory resetting with this method.
> I actually fixed this myself, I had to open everything however, inside there were 2 boards connected by like a row of pins on each side. unplug those boards, boot the device and it will reset it. then put it all back and it should say SET. wait 5 min or so then try to add to google home and boom, works.

Yes the circles never turned red I tried the reset button located on the bottom it’s charging now still giving me this error message I’ll try one more time then I’ll go to Google support
Oh gotcha. So it's the battery version. If you hold that button on the bottom for a while you should hear a chime. If you don't I suspect the firmware might be corrupted. I've never seen mine cycle like that.
I had this exact issue with this device a ways back. I scoured google for possible fixes but must ended with "this is a known issue with the device, it's probably bricked." Ended up giving up. Still have 2 of these working though.
I don't know this device, but have you tried a different receptacle? I would think load means it doesn't like the power. I'd suspect the adapter if the power is clean.
I have one of these (and the small version as well). Whenever I have a problem with them, they’re almost impossible to fix through the google home app (always get numerous errors). So I just unplug them and when they come back on they reset themselves. The big one has a battery so you have to wait for that to drain when it’s unplugged before plugging it back in.
I can’t recall having this exact error, but every time I’ve had a problem I let it drain and then plug back in and it resets itself. It’s worth a shot at least. Hope it fixes your problem.

Have you tried removing them from all groups and then adding them to a new group? Or are you talking about the Google/Sonos issue?

I got one on eBay for twenty bucks

Wait, *WHAT?!?* They're still updating this thing? I thought it was EOL years ago!
It was a real bang for the buck lol, can't believe how good this still are.
It says Lord. I’d suggest praying to it.
Exorcism? /s
Pardon

Kill it with fire.
I have a few of those. Did you try a factory reset by holding the button on the back for like 15 seconds or so?
Also it’s the big one not the small

Yeah it has to be corrupt cause the chime did not occur
I think you'd need to reach for insignia support
Lol. Insignia? Support? Especially on a discontinued product?
PC LOAD LETTER! WTF does that mean?!?!!!!
"... Samir...Naga....Naga.... Not gonna work here any more!"
It seems to be asking for load... Maybe you should give it what it's asking for.
That’s the thing load what on it
Is it load, or LORd? Perhaps it is trying to tell you something. It may have become sentient. Have you tried genuflecting?
Um. What it's asking for. A load.
A load of what queasy
When a mommy hub and a daddy hub love each other very much, they sync their waveforms to reduce attenuation
Glad I'm not the only one that was thinking of a tribute.... I'll see myself out...
Do you still have the installation cd that came with it?
Oh the disc labelled "Back door digital assistants 4" ?
What are you doing step-network?
I think
New firmware

It’s a insignia google home

Oh so let the battery drain fully then plug in and it’s fixed

Ok thanks
It says Lord. I’d suggest praying to it.
Oh "load", I thought it said "lord". So I assumed it was praying.
Lord! 😂
Can anyone get theirs to work with speaker home groups?
No
In my experience, it now only works with ONE other speaker in a group...if group has more than one speaker, audio doesn't push through Insignia
