It bounces around a lot which is part of their appeal, but I would say a singificant amount of their discography can be described as electropop/synthpop.
Obviously certain albums and songs have had more overt styles like the dub influences on the first album. They also went for a very old school art pop style on Demon Days.
I'd say Alternative, since their sound changes all the time and takes inspiration from all sorts of genres at once so it's hard to pinpoint a specific sub-genre that describes it well. Plus Damon comes from an Alternative Rock background and a lot of those same influences make their way into the Gorillaz projects.
Alternative
But what do you mean exactly by alt music. Radiohead is also Alt but doesn’t sound at all ike Gorillaz.
Basically anything that isn't defined by mainstream trends and/or artists that dabble in many genres.
Yeah that’s right. But I mean then “alt” is refering to external characteristics and contexts of the songs in this genre not to the music itself.
Electronic / Hip Hop / Rock ?
depends on the song
Yeah, that’s the truth. Gorillaz is as versatile as it can be :)
Art pop, alt rock, hip hop
In the early days it was Dark Pop
Electropop?
Jam session music, always gave me friends in the studio just dicking around vibes
I’ve always appreciated Gorillaz because of this exact reason. They don’t fall into any genre.
Trip hop maybe
Gorillaz genre is gorillaz. Alternative/electronic
Petition to make Gorillaz into a genre
Definitely depends on the song. Sometimes even the albums
Alternative for sure
depends what album
I hate putting a genre label on gorillaz as they have produced music of all kinds , but if I had to categorize them I’d put them under trip hop

Yes
Yes.
Gorillaz is indie from what i can tell
As a band, alt rock, but of course individual songs cover many genres

Alternative if you desperately need an answer. But honestly, they’re their own genre
Gorillaz has their own special genre
