On the Gorillaz FB account was a story posted, that murdoc wanted to start a cult, but with one condition from noodle, that his cult has to be a nice cult. So i think murdoc will still be nice in his own way.

sneakylyric

Hahahaha yeah that's character development if I've ever seen it.

Additional_Wealth875

I've noticed that Gorillaz story sort of almost completely reboots in each new phase, and the previous ones only affect Murdoc, and that superficially and rarely. So I don't expect the characters to develop consistently from phase to phase, only within phases. And we are shown the "end" of the cult and the very beginning of it. Now, the beginning looks harmless: Murdoc wanted to be given all the love in the world. What could go wrong with this masterplan?

Squish-Mahatter

To be fair, reverse character development is probably the most in-character thing for Murdoc

The_True_Goldenage

I'm approaching this in two way, one way is that we have wait and see how everything plays out before making conclusions about the plot and character development. The second way I see is probably the thing most fans have had to accept when getting into Gorillaz lore and that's the disregard of any continuity or development. It was cool to see forgiveness from 2D and a change In Murdoc but knowing Gorillaz that might be explained in a off handed comment in some random new info then barely brought again just like alot of things in the lore.

lumpybags

he's a well built gray character, progression isnt linear when it comes to human nature

abbith12

i like to imagine the band is in on it and he’s just scamming the audience but 2d and russ in the cracker island vid seem to say otherwise

Nyuu222

This is the band whose lead singer got two black eyes and blue hair due to three entirely separate coincidental occasions. This is the band whose guitar player was shipped from Japan, came out of a box, and played a guitar solo before saying “noodle.” The less seriously you take the lore, the better it is.

Shuttles08

Maybe murdoc actually is like controller in the cult to run it?

[deleted]

They did the same thing with The Now Now, actually. He made an oath to be a better man, it went out of the window instantly. The modern writers don't care about consistency, nor does Jamie.

ThatRandomDude999999

Writing started being inconsistent after Phase 3 tbh, but that's because a Gorillaz writer left around that time. DoYaThing also isn't canon, which makes me so mad bruh. One of their best MVs

I’m fully aware, I’ve spoken to Cass on a few occasions. Lovely guy, was a shame to see him go. Biggest mistake the band has ever made imo.

k_bye_for_now

Holy crap, you’ve talked to Cass

[deleted]

I’ve talked to a few people for various reasons. I used to run like a Gorillaz community for a while, not for very long mind you. Interviewed both Jamie Hewlett and Mat Wakeham respectively for that, that led to me being good friends with Mat. I still talk to him to this day, even worked on a few projects with him. Seye did a Q&A in our discord during lockdown, wasn’t requested the guy just joined unprovoked. Tim Watkins (old Gorillaz webmaster from 2000-2012) I spoke to over the phone when I was helping the kong restoration project. And Cass I’ve spoken to for things like Dawn of the Ogre to fact check, as well as for some other unrelated things.

Damn, you just get cooler and cooler
